This was written and composed by the lead singer, who you see here, Justin Hayward when he was just 19 years old. Imagine a 19 year old young man making something like this.
Nice! My 90 year old father in law just lost his wife of 65 years last month. He cannot be consoled! So sad. There is something to be said about so many of these old school couples that kept on loving each other until the end....
I'm 71 years old and was a teenager when this song came out. It struck me so hard that a song could be so beautiful. I went to sleep singing Nights in White Satin as my eyes gently closed and I went into dreamland. The addition of the orchestra to the marvelous voice of Justin Hayward made this song absolutely most memorable.
I'm 41 and this song came out long before I was born. This is far from the first time I heard it but it will be last thing on my mind tonight before falling asleep. I haven't lost all faith in modern music by any means but nothing like this will ever be made again. It's a masterpiece.
I agree, this was still an epic belt, but the studio version can show you what he did without today's vocal manipulation software. This brings me back to times where we had so much less to worry about.
@@straycatttt2766 and now we have Cold War, the War on Terror, ISIS, the Middle East, Iran with nuclear weapons launching 300 missiles, riots covering everything from race, to the environment, to the G8 Summit, to the Presidential Elections, Trump, Biden, Covid, Joblessness, 8 Billion people on the planet, polluted oceans, AI taking jobs, food shortages everywhere from Madrid to Calcutta to towns in southern France, the Panama Canal both blocked and in danger of water shortages, drones as weapons, a hundred fold increase in school shootings, murder and rape, Detroit half abandon, Houthi Rebels shooting missiles as US ships, fentanyl epidemics in every city, a 20-fold increase in homelessness in the US, and the list goes on. So, yea, you really showed us how little has changed.
The Moody Blues is a band that seems to be often forgotten about, but they have a wide range of hits. Isn't Life Strange, Your Wildest Dreams, The Story in Your Eyes, and I Know You're Out There Somewhere are good songs that will not disappoint.
I have been a long time fan of the Moody Blues and still say they are one of the best to every play. Live at Red Dock was a hell of a concert. Love ya Aileen.
Released in 1967.... There is a poem at the end of the original release..... The lead singer Justin Hayward wrote this masterpiece when he was 19 and here in this live performance he's 65 years old. A rare talent. Also, even at his older age he has such crystal clear, emotional and fine vocals. What a perfect song it is and always will be.
I believe this was from their concert in Royal Albert Hall in May of 2000. Justin would have been around 43 years old at that time. He is 77 years old now and still making beautiful music with his solo tours in the USA and UK. He is a one of a kind talent for sure. The Moody Blues were a special band and do not receive near the attention and credit they deserve. But those of us who love their music get it!
Justin Hayward listens to some of the reactors listening to their songs. He replied to one of my comments on another reactor's reaction to this song. We exchanged a couple pleasantries across the comment section. I saw them live in 86 when their current hits were, "I Know You're Out There Somewhere" and "Your Wildest Dreams" and "The Voice" if memory serves me. It was a great concert.
I'm trying to recall when and where I saw them, but I believe it was on the same tour. In the midst of their set, I looked up and saw a satellite coming apart as it re-entered the atmosphere. Maybe I can work out where I was; I think somewhere in Indiana--maybe Indianapolis.
This song was on an Album called “Days of Future Past” and on the album this song ends with a beautiful poem called “Late Lament” “Breathe deep the gathering gloom, Watch lights fade from every room, Bedsitter people look back and lament, Another days useless energy is spent, Impassioned lovers, wrestle as one, A lonely man cry’s for love and has none, New mother picks up and suckles her son, Senior citizens wish they were young Cold hearted orb that rules the night, Removes the colors from our sight, Red is grey and yellow white, But we decide which is right, And which is an illusion.” And was preceded by another poem titled “Morning Glory” “Cold hearted orb that rules the night, Removes the colors from our sight, Red is grey and yellow white, But we decide which is right, And which is an illusion. There first big hit which put them on the map was “Go Now” in 1965. One of their last hits was “I know your out There Somewhere” 1988. 23 years of hits. They also had a song from 2003 called “December Snow”.
The times over the years I find myself quoting those words!!! Sometimes when out walking on a moonlit night, sometimes just because the feelings are rising. Always from the soul as that's how Graeme wrote them.
Nights in White satin has been one of my most favorite songs since it was first released. I am so glad that you were so moved by it! Your reaction to such a renowned song being it so old made me cry as well ❤
What I am enjoying the most about your reactions, is the pure emotion that you are experiencing from listening to the greatest music ever written. Which is the music of the 1960's, 70's & early 80's
This song was so personal to me. When I was young I used to sing this song to my new wife while we were on road trips. We listened to the entire cassette. I put the Moody Blues at a class of their own. Not rock, pop, easy listening. I really could not classify them. But I loved them and gave them utmost respect.
O.K. beautiful you have selected one of their best, This was one of their biggest songs in the states. Justin, the man singing wrote this when he was 19.. Save a little because this song builds up near the end that is enough to make you cry!!!! I hope you like it! I got to see them in Raleigh, NC way back ib 1985. It was great! It was like listening to a recording. It sounded just like this. I do not recall if they did this classic. They are so darn good. I think ALL of their music is good!!!!! ALL OF IT.............. Bye for now.
I first heard the Moodies in 1968. I was blown away, as I was by the group Chicago and Blood, Sweat and Tears. The orchestral sound, the horns. WOW! I did a hitch in the USMC, and had myself together in 1973, upon my discharge. Saw the Moodies in 1974. Saw them again in 1977 and 1980. All the concerts were, as you noticed, heralded by the audience being silent as they performed. It was magical. Still is. Music such as they made will never grow tired or get old. Neither will it ever be composed to their level again. I am so pleased to have grown in an era which had such marvelous musicians. Thank you for your review.
Just had to say real quick, you always look so pretty in every reaction but especially this one with the bangs 🥹 Couple minutes in, already love how much you’re feeling the music with your facial expressions how it carries you ❤️
I cry every time I hear this song. It's been 50 years and I still wonder where she is and how she is doing. Damn this song all to hell its sooo beautiful and totally gut wrenching. Let me help you understand the lyrics. "Nights in white satin Never reaching the end" is referring to the satin sheets that she gave him as a gift just before she dumped him. The sheets didn't reach the end of the bed hence the lyrics. "Letters I've written Never meaning to send" with 20 versions of his letter in the trash to try and win her back he never mails the letter why? "Beauty I'd always missed With these eyes before" he's telling you how beautiful she was. "Just what the truth is I can't say anymore" this is why he never mails the letter, he just doesn't know if she ever loved him. 'Cause I love you Yes, I love you Oh, how I love you "Gazing at people Some hand in hand" seeing others in love just brings back the pain. "Just what I'm going through They can't understand" unless you have had a broken heart you can't understand. "Some try to tell me Thoughts they cannot defend" you just can't mend a broken heart. "Just what you want to be You will be in the end" he wrote this for her. He is saying he is letting her go and above all he wants her to be happy. And I love you Yes, I love you Oh, how I love you Oh, how I love you Nights in white satin Never reaching the end Letters I've written Never meaning to send Beauty I've always missed With these eyes before Just what the truth is I can't say anymore 'Cause I love you Yes, I love you Oh, how I love you Oh, how I love you 'Cause I love you Yes, I love you Oh, how I love you Oh, how I love you
Saw them in 1987 in Miami. No orchestra. This was a special event. Check out the record version, there is a lament at the end. Also "Ride My Seesaw", "Tuesday Afternoon".
The Moody Blues are a great band! There music is more than great it's an experience and a Vibe that transports you another dimension! I Luv this song! Thanks for sharing Aileen ❤️💛
Justin Hayward is such a fantastic and enigmatic singer. I can certainly recommend listening to the studio version as well; the high notes reach even higher and really grab you and drag you along. In the same vein, I can very much recommend Crowded House with "Don't dream it's over", *especially* the version from their goodbye concert; it's SO emotional and beautiful.
A beautiful woman reacting beautifully to a beautiful song. What more can you ask for? Please also try the following great Moody Blues songs: The Question Forever Autum Tuesday Afternoon Ride My Seesaw. Love your heartfelt reactions!
In my "humble" opinion, this is the greatest love song ever. The rising and falling of so many different kinds of instruments, the lyrics, the vocals from beautiful harmony to voice cracking pain. In my experience, this ranks up there with Shakespeare's ability to describe love in poetry. All these decades later, I still get goosebumps.
I love your reactions Aileen. Whether you are dancing and smiling or crying you wear your heart on your sleeve and get emotionally involved. You are lovely to watch.🙂
My favourite song! I knew the lead singer Gary Brooker very well. I grew up in the same village he lived in. We drank at the same pub. He played it live on his own on the pub piano for my 21s birthday. Best present ever!
From the first prog rock album ever. And they never took that right foot off the floor. I was 17 when I first heard this and I listen to them at least once a day at 71. Heard the voice, had no choice, say it with love !
Logically, your next listen should be: “Procession/The Story In Your Eyes”, Aileen. Enter the MB’s deep Rabbit Hole - as leagues of us have over 50+ years of musical Moody time travel. Many reactors don’t understand Procession and its three-word lyrics. You will appreciate how the Moodies can transport their listeners across time and space. 💙 th-cam.com/video/A6EFytM1sxM/w-d-xo.html
And in this one there is an orchestra and backup singers. The Moodys are Rock & Roll Hall of Fame good!! Some try to tell me thoughts they cannot defend. Just what you want to be, you will be in the END! " What a great line...... They don't use a lot of flash. Just great music!!!! Build-ups like waves at the ocean crashing on shore! You are getting emotional. Don't cry, this is a joyful & happy song! With a orchestra this size covers all of the frequencies...... Beginning around 7:20 something. Tears!!!! If your eyes are dry and itch just watch this!!!!!! All Moody Blues music is good, all of it!!!!!! Can you imagine someone writing this just for YOU???!!!!!........... Later beautiful.
❤how true, 👍and I tend to get a little teary😢 listening, totally due to the appreciation of the emotion these artists put into their craft🥰 How lucky are we!!! 🤗
Aileen, the Moody Blues are one of this 68 year-old's favorite bands of all time, and this is one rabbit hole worth falling deeply into. There are SO many awesome songs to listen to. My personal #1 go-to is "(The music to) the story in your eyes." For one of their more popular hard rockers, try "I'm just a singer in a rock and roll band." I love watching you rediscover the cherished music of my youth!💖
Wow Aileen you articulated yourself beautifully and I concur with you totally incompletely Justin Hayward an amazing writer and vocalist and so are all the members of the Moody blues I love them all Just what they're going through they can't understand from trying to tell me thoughts they cannot defend just what you want to be You'll be in the and I love you Yes I love you I love you .... Well Eileen I'm watching you close your eyes and just allow yourself to be immersed and the slide into this pool of wondrous nectar and allowing yourself to glide and sore in the wind gently blowing under your wings That is quite beautiful I remember me and my friends feeling the same way when we heard this music for the first time Thank you for sharing!
One of the Best and Most Beautiful Song ever written and recorded! WoWsers! Easily, one of my Top-10 Songs of ALL-TIME!!! Gorgeous Sublime .... Cheers!
This song is from the album, Days Of Future Passed, where the record company wanted to alternate The Moody's music with brief orchestrational interludes. Between 1967 and 1972, The Moody Blues recorded 7 albums which are the recordings that established the band as an innovative progressive rock band. The mellotron is used in these recordings and each album is unlike anything you've ever listened to. Of course after those albums there are so many others. Other great songs from The Moody Blues are, Tuesday Afternoon, Ride My See-Saw, You And Me, The Balance, The Word | OM, Peak Hour, Your Wildest Dreams, English Sunset and so many others.
Justin Hayward, the lead vocalist, is still performing live and hasn't lost a step. I'd go as far as saying his voice is stronger live than in studio due to the emotion actually being more honest in his songs. I'd suggest you check out any performance of his solo-song "Forever Autumn" live in concert from recent years. If you liked "Nights" I have no doubt you'll definitely love "Forever Autumn".
This band deserves so much more modern attention. I was able to see them live with a full orchestra outdoors at sunset in the 90s, maybe one of the most beautiful events I have ever seen.
He wrote this song when he was 19. I was 19 when they released it. They don't make music like this anymore. You need to listen to the version on their Days of Future Past album. There's an additional 8 minutes at the end that will blow your mind.
My buddy and I used to hang out at an arcade on Clearwater Beach (TJ's!) playing pinball and pool in the late 60's/early 70's. We must have played this song at least 100 times on the jukebox.
This is a timeless song relevant for any era so beautifully written and this performance is stunning. Consider that Justin sounds this great this late in his career amazing. The orchestra is so powerful at the end makes me emotional when I watch this version. Thank you great reaction thanks for the trip back in time to my teens much appreciated. 🤘🤟
Whenever I see a reactor hearing this for the first time I feel so freaking fortunate. The Moody Blues and Pink Floyd were all over the radio starting i my high school years. Not to mention a number of other bands. People growing to adulthood without hearing those two bands in particular just makes me sad for them. They made my younger years so much better.
Hi Miss Aileen Here are 3 more you might enjoy 1) Tuesday afternoon 2) Forever Autumn 3) In your wildest dreams As always the like button 🔳 has been Illuminated 😊
I saw them in Pensacola in 1994 with the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra. The Moody Blues would travel the world and send their sheet music ahead for the local orchestra to learn. So, each city got to see their local orchestra perform with the Moody Blues. The studio version has a poem added to it, so it's worth a listen.
The Moody Blues Was the greatest groups of the Sixty's and even today they still bring Joy to our ears, Anouther increadable song and singer, Very well done!!!
Great song and performance, incredible orchestra, it gets you emotional. You so need to hear the album this comes from, The Days of Future Past, one of the first concept albums and has a Symphony Orchestra in synch with the band, in their look at a typical day. They were an utterly great band, one of the best ever. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎻🎺🎶
I'm so glad you have discovered The Moody Blues, Aileen. They are an absolutely out of this world band. I would suggest you give a listen to "Question" next ... another Justin Hayward composition on which he, of course, sings lead. The altering tempos within it are mesmerizing.
Watching you react to this beautiful music, our music, took me back to 1967 when I heard it for the very first time. It's unsurpassed and Justin is still touring and touching hearts whenever he sings this, the most wonderful song ever written (In the opinion of a generation of Moodies fans). Thanks
I have to admit that this was one of the best songs they ever did. I still love this song to this day. Thanks so much for doing it. Take care and blessings to you from England.
Hey Aileen! One of my favorite songs of all time. I haven't watched the reaction yet, but I'm pretty sure they never actually play the ending of the song during a live version, which is sad and you should listen to the full version on your own time. Fun fact though, my sister followed them around for years on tour and the drummer proposed to her. She said no because she didn't think she could handle the lifestyle of either always being on the road or being left at home until the tour was over, plus relocating. Meh, to each their own. I think she missed out tbh.
Perfectly imperfect is what is missing in a lot of recent music. I've listened to this since it was released still brings me to tears. moody Blues was one of the first Progressive Rock bands. Love seeing young people discover this type of music.
An epic composition... This song has always mesmerized me... Almost a haunting quality to it, especially the album version that features a spoken word at the conclusion
I still remember hearing this for the first time. Because of it's length, it was relegated to late at night on the radio. I would often stay up in hopes of hearing it again. My brother had the opportunity to play in the backing orchestra when Moody Blues came through town. Awesome stuff
This was written and composed by the lead singer, who you see here, Justin Hayward when he was just 19 years old. Imagine a 19 year old young man making something like this.
Old soul
It was these guys that introduced the Beatles to the melotron.
People who can do things at a level like this are amazing. I thing when Steve Winwood wrote I'm a man he was only 17. That's crazy.
Imagine how much better his voice was 50 years earlier.
@@AndyViantGod, it was pretty darn nice here and now.
Justin is still married to the same girl that he wrote this song about. They got married in 1970, 3 years after it was released in 1967. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Watch lights fade from every room
Bedsitter people look back and lament
Another day's useless energy spent
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one;
Lonely man cries for love and has none;
New mother picks up and suckles her son;
Senior citizens wish they were young
Cold-hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colours from our sight
Red is grey is yellow white
But we decide which is right
And which is an illusion
And after all the music and poem, it ends with a gong.

Letters I've written
Never meaning to send
Beauty I've always missed
With these eyes before
Just what the truth is
I can't say anymore
'Cause I love you
Yes, I love you
Oh, how I love you
Oh, how I love you
'Cause I love you
Yes, I love you
Oh, how I love you
Oh, how I love you
Saw them in 1987 in Miami.
Great choice for a reaction video well done.
Saw them live in the 70s .
A beautiful woman reacting beautifully to a beautiful song. What more can you ask for? Please also try the following great Moody Blues songs:
The Question
Forever Autum
Tuesday Afternoon
Ride My Seesaw.
Great song, Listen to it a lot when I was very young and I still listen to it to this day. Just an awesome song.
One of best songs ever ❤
Moody Blues Essentials should be in your playlist. Luv you Aileen!
One of the original symphonic rock bands. Timeless!!
I love your reactions Aileen. Whether you are dancing and smiling or crying you wear your heart on your sleeve and get emotionally involved. You are lovely to watch.🙂
Procol Harum ...Whiter Shade Of Pale ❤❤❤❤
My favourite song! I knew the lead singer Gary Brooker very well. I grew up in the same village he lived in. We drank at the same pub. He played it live on his own on the pub piano for my 21s birthday. Best present ever!
Yes this song 100%
Love it. But this is better, to be honest. Not by much, but it is.
This is such a stunning performance
From the first prog rock album ever. And they never took that right foot off the floor. I was 17 when I first heard this and I listen to them at least once a day at 71. Heard the voice, had no choice, say it with love !
Another Moody Blues great is The Story in Your Eyes ❤😊
Logically, your next listen should be: “Procession/The Story In Your Eyes”, Aileen. Enter the MB’s deep Rabbit Hole - as leagues of us have over 50+ years of musical Moody time travel. Many reactors don’t understand Procession and its three-word lyrics. You will appreciate how the Moodies can transport their listeners across time and space. 💙

You know that a particular song is good when it not only moves your heart but your soul.....
A timeless masterpiece,,, thank you for reminding me how great the song is💖💕💞💞💞💕💖
And in this one there is an orchestra and backup singers.
Songs aren't written and performed like this anymore.... What talent and special time in music history!!! 💕
❤how true, 👍and I tend to get a little teary😢 listening, totally due to the appreciation of the emotion these artists put into their craft🥰
How lucky are we!!!
Absolutely beautiful.
Justin also did "Forever autumn" on Jeff Wayne's 1978 musical version of "The war of the worlds", widely regarded as a fantastic album.
The Question and The Story In Your Eyes are two absolute gems(as is everything else they recorded!)
100 years from now, this will be looked at the same as the work of all the great Masters.
for sure masterpiece status
Justin Hayward, the lead vocalist, is still performing live and hasn't lost a step. I'd go as far as saying his voice is stronger live than in studio due to the emotion actually being more honest in his songs. I'd suggest you check out any performance of his solo-song "Forever Autumn" live in concert from recent years. If you liked "Nights" I have no doubt you'll definitely love "Forever Autumn".
Still one of the most powerful love songs ever written!💘💘💘
This was amazing first heard on radio and after 55 years later, still arouses my mind and emotion.
Great reaction !!!! Love it. Every time I have ever heard it anywhere stops me in my tracks and sucks my ears and feelings in like gravity.
The poem read by the drummer.
I have seen them twice in Providence R.I. Very awesome live!
Hi Miss Aileen Here are 3 more you might enjoy
1) Tuesday afternoon
2) Forever Autumn
3) In your wildest dreams
As always the like button 🔳 has been Illuminated 😊
Holy-smoke, what a wonderful video .😊
MASTERPIECE!
Its so beautiful.
@AileenSenpai I've been waiting so long to react to this Masterpiece! Thank you!
Great song and performance, incredible orchestra, it gets you emotional. You so need to hear the album this comes from, The Days of Future Past, one of the first concept albums and has a Symphony Orchestra in synch with the band, in their look at a typical day. They were an utterly great band, one of the best ever. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎻🎺🎶
My dad loved the moody blues and this was his favourite song. We played it at his funeral.
One of my favorite songs
The first time I saw this video, I had the same feelings about the performance. I heard it as a kid in the ‘70’s, but this moved me so much more.
A f$&king classic, beautiful song, love your reactions!
I'm so glad you have discovered The Moody Blues, Aileen. They are an absolutely out of this world band.
I would suggest you give a listen to "Question" next ... another Justin Hayward composition on which he, of course, sings lead. The altering tempos within it are mesmerizing.
Every time I hear Night in White Satin live, as it ends I want to say 'Breathe deep the gathering gloom, watch lights fade from every room...'
Watching you react to this beautiful music, our music, took me back to 1967 when I heard it for the very first time. It's unsurpassed and Justin is still touring and touching hearts whenever he sings this, the most wonderful song ever written (In the opinion of a generation of Moodies fans). Thanks
I got to see this group in a beautiful outdoor concert with the San Diego symphony in the late eighties. Still a favorite memory!
I so much enjoy watching reactions to music I grew up by reactors that are hearing these songs for the first time and Aileen is one if the best.
I've been lucky enough to have seen them in concert several times ! They put on a great show !!
A transcendently beautiful song, and a beautiful person reacting honestly. Thank you.
I'll always thank the Moody Blues for bringing me a touch of classical culture beyond the rock music I normally listened to at the time.
This is probably from their concert in Royal Albert Hall. That concert should be heard in its entirety.
Beautiful is exactly what that performance is 🫶🏼
Breath deep the gathering gloom, watch lights fade from every room
She needs to listen to the studio version.
Can you imagine being in that room , when the orchestra builds for the finale ? I get goose bumps just imagining the enormity of that sound !
I still remember hearing this for the first time. Because of it's length, it was relegated to late at night on the radio. I would often stay up in hopes of hearing it again. My brother had the opportunity to play in the backing orchestra when Moody Blues came through town. Awesome stuff
I still love his voice in this live version years later. I would love to see the goosebumps you get from the OG soundtrack. It's so angelic.
This is one of the earliest songs in my memory. My parents played this for me on vinyl when I was a toddler, and I always remembered it. Love it.
