Love this song from Gino Vannelli. Funny story, he was invited to appear on Soul Train. The invitation came from then host Don Cornelius. When GV asked DC why he invited him to appear on the show when he wasn’t a black artist, Don Cornelius simply replied… you’re black enough baby!
I can't say what the timeline was (likely pre 1960s) people of Italian heritage were not considered what people then thought of as "white" Nothing to do with Gino but interesting nonetheless.
This is a great song. Gino’s voice is truly amazing and perfect for this very classy and sophisticated song. It’s also perfect for that special, romantic evening with the woman of your dreams! 🌹
I remember how much AirPlay this song received and 78, I fell in love with it immediately! In the background singers really did the job to complement his voice
From about 1977 to 1987 were some of the greatest, jazzy, mellow lite-rock songs of all time. Gino Vanneli. Anita Baker, Michael McDonald, Luther Vandross, Quincy Jones, Peabo Bryson. Unbelievable number of great songs and singers in that genre.
@@TheDivayenta Indeed, you are right! I wasn't sure whether Vanelli quite fell into that category - but he does come close, doesn't he? You can definitely see the commonalities. I think I probably said "lite rock" because, where I am, the radio station that advertised itself as "lite rock" used to play all their music. All I know is, I loved the music at the time!

Gino still sounds the same today. He’s brilliant writer and composer. I’ve had the pleasure to meet him several times, and he is a lovely human. He has aged so well, and he hasn’t lost a note of his spectacular voice. He’s a favorite of mine since the release of his first album in 1973.

YASSSSSSS! I am so glad you _finally_ got to this one. There was no doubt in my mind y'all were going to love it for all the reasons you discussed: Gino's soulful vocals, his looks, the backup vocals, the sax... Next up should be _Wheels of Life_ , _Hurts to be in Love_ , and _People Gotta Move_ . For more Canadian "Female Friday" options, please tune your ears to Amanda Marshall and her song _Birmingham_ (music video version, of course) or jazz singer-pianist Diana Krall's _Hit That Jive, Jack_ . Thanks for another spot-on reaction. Peace!
I get the fangirling of Andy Gibb. I was fortunate to see Andy in 1978 as a twelve year old at the Illinois State Fair. Great song here by Gino. I haven't heard this song in decades. My 70s childhood had the best soundtrack, and it continued in the 80s.
I want to give a shout out for the drummer, Mark Craney, who did this album, "Brother to Brother". He was also drummer for Jethro Tull for a while. He was 2 years younger than me, we both grew up in Sioux Falls, SD. He was a fantastic drummer and super nice guy who sadly had many health issues. We lost him in 2005! He also played with Jean-Luc Ponty, Gary Moore, Greg Rollie, Tommy Bolin, Jeff Beck, Dweezil Zappa, Caldera, The Mark-Almond Band, The Hughes-Thrall Band, Eddie Jobson, Tower of Power, and Eric Burdon!
Wow, what a resume! First time I've seen anyone mention Caldera anywhere. I love that band and have all 4 of their albums on vinyl. The studio production and engineering on them is superb!
In the early eighties I was working at a restaurant in Tucson Arizona. This song was on the in-house music rotation, and I heard it every day. Great song.
Shocked that no one has pointed out the major flaw of this song. IT'S TOO DAMN SHORT!!! Once a Gino Fan, always a Gino fan!!! Loved him since the 70's. Had everytjing he released on 8track than got cassettes, albums then cd's. You have got to listen to dea speranza. His voice is incredible on this and he sings in Italian. Gino Vannelli is a great Canadian singer & songwriter who had several hit songs in the 70's-80's. People Gotta Move", "Wild Horses", "Black Cars", "Hurts To Be In Love" etc.
I have been doing a deep revisiting of 70’s music trying to find a specific song and wow, I knew it was great, I lived it, after all, graduated HS in 1976, but wow. Hearing one banger after another in pop, rock, soul, alternative, you name it, it’s really mind boggling how good these groups were, no two alike. I always thought I couldn’t choose which decade was better - 60’s, 70’s or 80’s, but now I think that the 70’s tops them all. That leaves out my favorite group ever, that influenced all the 70’s, The Beatles, but luckily I can still listen to them and say the 70’s had the most creative, diverse and amazing songs ever.
You can never go wrong with a guy from Montreal with Italian heritage, who's gorgeous, has an amazing voice and writes his own songs. Another great song he has is "Wheels of Life" and possibly my favourite!

Gino is from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, as am I. Also the home of Corey Hart and Men Without Hats. Gino Vannelli is a great singer and in the song "I just Wanna Stop" he Mentions Montreal. This song is from way back. Thank you, Jay & Amber for all the awesome reaction videos!

Please take a moment and enjoy the song "Brother to Brother". Fantastic song, exceptional instruments and Gino's brother plays the organ. Just great song all around.
They are going to love that one. Very rhythmic and jazzy, well composed. Good message too. I think they would also like ''You Gotta Move'' & ''Wheels of Life'' for the 70s Gino.
Confession time. I had that hair at one time, and the ladies seemed to approve. I discovered this song after being whisked off to a bedroom where his posters were all over the wall. The hair was the only thing we had in common, and it didn't stick around forever either. Still a great song, and he a great performer...in the tradition of Engelbert Humperdinck, Tom Jones, and/or Tiny Tim.
@@MisterWondrous I found it slightly amusing because I couldn't hear Tiny Tim in that guy at all, but definitely the other guys. The interesting thing about Tiny Tim is that he was very serious with his singing, but everyone took it as a novelty.

One thing that’s awesome about Gino vanelli is he was a singer/songwriter and those were always my fav performers. Dan fogelberg, Billy Joel, Eric Carmen. And Mr Gino Vanelli. I love the video of your first time hearing Andy Gibb! Amber's reaction was every teen girl's reaction to Andy in the 70s. Yes... I had the Andy Gibb poster on my wall, right next to Shaun Cassidy.
4:16 Gino was invited to the cookout long time ago (he was the 1st white singer on “Soul Train”). 5:14 J, the male back up singer is Gino’s brother Ross, who wrote “I Just Wanna Stop”.
Gino has been one of my favorites for decades. It's an absolute shame he wasn't more popular. Give a listen to Brother to Brother, Nightwalker, or Appaloosa from his Live in LA concert.
We had the hunks, that's for sure, but you can relive what we went through so all is not lost! Oh, hey, did you know guys used to get perms back then? Seriously!! Love and peace.
Amber you are right, us women of the 70's were so lucky!!!! Also guys just found out that the male backup singer in this video is Gino's Brother! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Brother to Brother is one of Gino's best songs and definitely worth reacting to. Another side of Gino that should be heard. Also features one of the best bands of the 70's. Mark Craney on drums and Carlos Rios on guitar are particularly noteworthy.
My opinion ! Of all of his albums . I think his Brother to Brother album was his Masterpiece album. It was relevant when it was released still is right now and the future generations to come with the song Brother to Brother.
Two other songs by Gino Vannelli recommended: “Living Inside Myself” and “Black Cars” Okay, strike “Living Inside Myself” since you’ve heard it already, I jumped the gun on that one, not sure how I missed the reaction.
If you want to see how his music evolved with the changing times, he had some hits in the 1980s called "Living Inside Myself", "Black Cars", and "Wild Horses". His last released album was in 2019, I think. We left him, but he never left us. Hopefully, he will live many more years and keep putting out music. Another great one to check out is Bobby Caldwell - What You Won't Do for Love! Such talent.
This song is about his memory of him and his brother living in Montreal. Knowing his cousin Ross, brought me into the fold. I saw him live on the Brother to Brother tour in '78, his live music sounds just like his records. I have every one of his albums. He sounds the same today as he did in the '70's. He is masterful with his lyrics and music.
Appaloosa, Brother to Brother , Santa Rosa, People Gotta Move , Fly into this Night , Where am I Going, Love of My Life, Powerful People, Mardi Gras are all awesome songs to react to
Love this song, he is 72 years old and still singing.
Listen to Benny Mardones doing Into the Night

His voice was so amazing. I loved the stuff he did in Italian. Una Sola Voce, song for my father(parole per mio padre). Check it out
in my top 10 of all songs alltime. my eyes tear up WHENEVER i hear it. hey i am a 75 yr old straight male. this song has just GOT IT. memories. i got stories.
"People Gotta Move" is funky stuff. I believe Gino performed it on Soul Train.
Looks like brother Joe on the keys
Gino has been one of my favorites for decades. It's an absolute shame he wasn't more popular. Give a listen to Brother to Brother, Nightwalker, or Appaloosa from his Live in LA concert.
Next you need to do his big '80s hit "Black Cars"!!
Black Cars is a cool song and a nice change of pace from what we've heard already
His brothers Joe and Ross were very involved in Gino's career. I think that was Joe on the keyboard
@@jethro1963 ❤️. I thought about that afterwards but wasn't sure. I think you're right though!! ❤️
@@debibailey2968 That is his brother Ross and Ross wrote the song
Brother to Brother is one of Gino's best songs and definitely worth reacting to. Another side of Gino that should be heard. Also features one of the best bands of the 70's. Mark Craney on drums and Carlos Rios on guitar are particularly noteworthy.
My opinion ! Of all of his albums . I think his Brother to Brother album was his Masterpiece album. It was relevant when it was released still is right now and the future generations to come with the song Brother to Brother.
I had Andy Gibb posters in my room in the 70s. Loved him sooooooooo! Then Victoria Principal came along putting her hands all over my man!! lol 🤣
Amazing! Mr Vannelli is fantastic... bravo 👏
Two other songs by Gino Vannelli recommended: “Living Inside Myself” and “Black Cars” Okay, strike “Living Inside Myself” since you’ve heard it already, I jumped the gun on that one, not sure how I missed the reaction.
They've reacted to Living Inside Myself.
@@db-gb5xiah, ok, yeah I heard that Amber mentioned it.
@3:57 Rob Squad was FEELIN' IT BABY!!! Cookout invite!!! ✊🏼
I love, love, love Gino listen to Brother to brother, or powerful people
Appaloosa, Brother to Brother , Santa Rosa, People Gotta Move , Fly into this Night , Where am I Going, Love of My Life, Powerful People, Mardi Gras are all awesome songs to react to
