    CORRECTION: As a viewer rightly pointed out (thanks!), the TRD trim does come with a stainless steel front skid plate as standard (that was introduced on TRDs for the 2021+ model years). That still doesn't change my general opinion that the TRD isn't worth the additional cost, and a front skid plate still doesn't protect all of the underbody components, but it is something. Also, you can buy the skid plate as a standalone part from Toyota for approximately $400, and it should be a pretty simple install on any model.

      fuck a hybrid more costly to repair keep it simple STUPID, this whole ''clean energy'' going green it's all a fucking scam lol, you cannot even build these vehicles or materials without fossil fuels, what ev is about is locking customers/3rd parties out of repairing their vehicles.

    • @drivetorun4172
      @drivetorun4172  2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Given surveys have shown over 3/4 of Americans don't know how to change their own oil, I don't think a hybrid powertrain is what is preventing people from repairing their own vehicles. Major hybrid powertrain components also must be warrantied by the manufacturer for at least 8 years and 100k miles (and in some states it's 10 years/150k miles). Lastly, given hybrids have been on the market for 20+ years at this point, I think we're past the initial teething pains (especially those using Ni-mh batteries). Heck, direct fuel injection was a "complicated" technology at one time too, and now well over 50% of all cars sold in the US utilize that.

      @@billybobbob3003 I understand that you are frustrated by the complex technology that all vehicles have. • @LordOfSilense
    @LordOfSilense 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    As a Toyota technician, I think this video kind of bypasses the differences between the radio/head units between the different trim levels. If you care about things such as navigation, automatic SOS services, remote starting, and audio quality, then the "in between" trim levels make a lot of sense since there is a total of difference between the Audio, Audio Plus, Premium Audio, and Premium Audio with JBL. The cost difference for the in-between models makes more sense in that way.
    A small thing to note too, the LE trim cannot have roof crossbars installed since it doesn't come with the roof rail system- another strike down for that base trim.
    Otherwise, great video! I wish our salesmen knew even a third of this.

    You have the most comprehensive video about the trim levels of the RAV4 5th Generation, regarding the cost. On top of the mark up as you mentioned, the dealerships may not have the colors and trim levels you might want. But overall your video is an excellent source of information to take a good decision of getting the most value for your dollars.

    • @drivetorun4172
      @drivetorun4172  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very true--particularly if you are in a smaller market. I'd look at your nearest metro area where hopefully there are more dealers which will drive some of that mark-up down (I've got at least 10 Toyota dealers within 30mi of my house, and I've found multiple that aren't charging any mark-up). Even with that though, you are correct that finding the color or trim you want still may not be easy.

    I appreciate the comments and input. Just a few suggestions if you are planning to continue:
    1) might be helpful if you get a better microphone for clarity.
    2) I respect your opinion, but I think I disagree that there's certain trims. I think would be better if you mentioned what you lose out of each trim, how much more would it cost, and who might be interested in it. There was a time in my life that the LE was the only one I would have been able to afford. The XLE is an excellent option. The premium is really nice, and I agree, there's a reason why I think these are the two most popular selling. I just got my XSE hybrid. I wanted the power moon roof. I do like the outside trim a lot more. I go up to the mountains a lot, so the pano moon roof is excellent when I have passengers in the back and they can't see the beautiful view I get to see.
    The limited... A lot of bells and whistles, but if you have the money and it's worth it to you, I respect that.
    As far as suggesting other cars. I checked out every car that was suggested to me while I was shopping. And this one fit on my needs for being practical yet rugged and versatile. I know there's some higher end cars or more affordable similar SUVs, but I could go down the list and tell you why each one didn't work for me.
    Thanks for the input though. Hope mine was helpful

It's optional on the (Hybrid) XLE Premium, TRD, (Hybrid) Limited, and (Hybrid & Prime) XSE. And honestly, if wireless CarPlay/Android Auto isn't available, then the wireless charging pad almost becomes a moot point because most people will connect their phone with the cable to get CarPlay/Android Auto, at which point, their phone will charge through the cable anyway

    My requirements (among Toyota cars) were: Look good (2-tone) and be a hybrid. The only trim that fits that bill for me is the XSE. Maybe you can modify the other trims to look like the XSE, but I prefer everything to be perfect out of the box. I imagine I'll drive this for the rest of my life (not in a 3-wish genie sort of way), but who knows.

    • @drivetorun4172
      @drivetorun4172  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That makes complete sense! As I mentioned, the SE or XSE work if you love the styling changes and are willing to pay extra for them (and car buying has never been a 100% left brain exercise anyway). Plus, if you're planning on keeping it for a really long time, the additional incremental cost will be a wash in the end. Enjoy!

    • @Jellyroll2
      @Jellyroll2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I was the same. My big thing was I wanted the pano moonroof. That only came on the xse. Plus I loved the two tone and it’s a hybrid. It’s why I went out of my way to find one last year over an xle or even xle premium.

    • @queenbrooksie

      Thanks! I probably won't do a specific Corolla Cross to RAV4 comparison, but if you hadn't seen it already, I did a trim analysis of the Corolla Cross too (here: th-cam.com/video/oXS-BPXF20I/w-d-xo.html). In my opinion, if you were planning on getting a gas-only powertrain and don't plan on using the rear seats much, I'd go with the Corolla Cross over the RAV4. However, if getting a hybrid or having more rear seat space is important to you, then the RAV4 makes more sense. I hope that's helpful!

Here in Maine, if I use eco, stay 5 mph under the speed limit, and drive like my grandmother, I am lucky to get 32 mpg from my hybrid in January, February, and March. I went to the dealer today and they said, "Oh yea, you'll get 10 mpg more in the summer... if you don't use your air conditioning." I like the car, but don't expect to get any where near the stated mpg. Yes, typically you can install fog lights as an aftermarket accessory, but they aren't listed as an "official" one through Toyota. It's possible the XLE's are pre-wired for the fog lights (there is some precedent for that), but looking through the parts catalogue, the new plastic facias and bulb will run you about $250/side. So, you're probably at least $500 pre-install assuming they are pre-wired. If not, it'll get more expensive. Of course, you could go non-OEM too.

      @drivetorun4172  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! However, unfortunately, I probably won't be doing direct head-to-head comparison between those two. My videos are generally targeted at people who have decided which car they're going to get, but haven't decided on the trim. I do that because I haven't driven all these cars myself, so it's hard to say which one is a "better value" without getting personal experience with the respective powertrains, etc. Taking the RAV4 and CR-V as an example, for the gas models, the RAV4 is powered by a naturally-aspirated engine with an 8 speed transmission vs. the CR-V that has a turbo engine and CVT transmission. Those powertrains will have a very different feel to them, so the best thing to do is go and test drive and see which you prefer, and then decide a trim from there. Sorry I can't be of more help!

    • @drivetorun4172
      @drivetorun4172  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Taking a quick look, I think the Forester Wilderness makes more sense than the Outback Wilderness because you actually get a more unique feature-set with the Forester (on the Outback, the Wilderness is nearly identical to the Onyx XT except you get +0.8" of ground clearance and all-terrain tires). The main thing to keep in mind for both is that you do loose quite a bit of highway fuel economy, so only you can decide if you'll use the extra Wilderness capability enough to justify that additional on-going cost. No matter what though, to be clear, the Wilderness package isn't anything like a Rubicon package on a Jeep or Badlands on a Bronco if you're truly looking for off-road capability.

Hybrid is great but i think it depends where you live. The nearest town is 30 minutes away.. since the battery only charges when going under 40Kph, brake or coast... her battery is always almost dead cause shes never doing those things.... The Adventure does come with a backup camera (all cars have to now...it's the law), but you do have to option either the Adventure or the TRD with their respective audio packages to get the upgraded JBL speakers.

It'll take some effort, but you'll likely be able to find one that isn't charging more than MSRP, and then you can either fly and pick up the vehicle from the dealer or have it shipped.

    I bought a FWD LE trim. I don’t want all that extra electronics fluff that is just going to cost me thousands in repairs when it breaks.

      @@drivetorun4172 Thanks. Now only if the damn thing would show up. Been waiting 5 months now and I only live a 30 minute drive from the factory that makes it. lol
      It's due any day now. But who knows when that is at this point. lol

      That is certainly quite the wait, but at least you don't have to worry about your car being on a ship that's on fire (www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2022/02/23/ship-audi-bentley-porsche-still-floating-ocean/6906735001/)

      @@drivetorun4172 LMAO! Yeah I saw that story. It's kinda hard to feel bad for rich ass Porsche owners though. They can afford almost any car.

    I would really like the TRD, but I would also really like LED headlights. Are they easy to add on after buying? Wondering if the mounting/connection is any different or if it has to be programmed.

      Yes you can switch out the old lamps to the updated 2023 led rav4 lights 👍

    I wish someone do this type of comparison video about cars here in PR. The prices in PR are extremely ridiculous compared within the States. We have to pay a lot of extra money just because the taxes and over that the inflation rate that the dealerships are putting on the cars. It's been so frustrating to get a new car here. We usually pay over $10k vs what you pay in USA. IE, the rav4 you can pay over $50k and I'm not talking about the top of the line! Tacomas over $60k!🤦🏽‍♂️
    And Tundras I guess would be over the $100k the TRD pro. Anw, thanks for the video, even though the prices are much higher here, this video helps a lot to understand the differences between the trims levels.

      That's a bummer...I'm sorry to hear that! For us, in some cases, Canadians get the same cars $3-5k cheaper than the US when you do the currency conversion...global trade is weird...
