    The one thing we typically see in all fights is that somebody underestimated somebody else, and usually by the 7th round of a fight we have a general idea of who will likely win. The greats consistently drag their opponents into murkier waters while appearing to be doing basic menuvers and patterns. Suddenly, "BAM" and everybody watching the fight is like "what just happened". Later on we come to see a Boxing Gems breakdown of what was going on and how things turned out the way that they did. Keep up the good work bro!

      Inoue is a freak athlete and boxing IQ wise isn't too far away, cos he can read timing and gauge distance within seconds and can adjust to what an opps doing in a single sequence sometimes...but his inside game is pretty bad, he does back out of range in straight lines, and he definitely doesn't have a control game on Floyd's level.

      @@BoxingGems so between joining on yt and patreon, patreon is the way to go?
      BTW this is a perfect analysis of this fight. I've been trying to explain these points to people for years and you both show and explain perfectly.
      IMO, Canelo has more experience now but his biggest changes have been increasing strength, shelling up most of the time because he wilts, and exploding with big punches to win/steal a round or KO. His active high guard is good, but when you only focus on working defense... it's much easier because you aren't trying to transition to offence or score in general. Canelo will find 1-3 chances to explode with a power shot in the first 8+/- rounds. After that period, fighters are usually exhausted and make mistakes. Canelo sweeps in to capitalise. They need to exploit his guard like Floyd did, stay moving all 12 rounds, not settle into patterns, and practice baiting and countering Canelo's wind up shots. You covered this all in the Bivol video though to be honest.

    Most of my top ten greatest of all time list aren't even from the modern era. I don't even think Mayweather is the best defensive fighter I've ever seen. Willy pep is the best defensive fighter I've ever seen.. as far as the best ever goes I believe that distinction belongs to Lightning Sam Langford. Joe Louis, Jack Johnson, and many other guys are head, and shoulders above Mayweather in my opinion. Now do I think floyd is a great fighter, savvy business man, and generational talent? ... Of course I do I just don't have him listed in my top ten best ever. I think the most physically gifted fighter of all time comes from the modern era. Of course I'm talking about Roy Jones Jr. Do you know what fantasy fight I would love to have seen is Crawford vs Mayweather. I believe that would be a hell of a chess match. Anyway to wrap up my tangent no modern fighter will ever be able to do what lightning Sam did.

    Floyd may be really good at scoring and avoiding hits but his constant jab+clutching/grabbing makes for historically dull fights. Like you said, it disrupts the rhythm of the other fighter and also for the audience. Point scoring is just not what ppl want to see in a big fight. It's like watching NBA finals when the WHOLE game is scored at the freethrow line. Talk about agonizingly underwhelming. Sure he won. But, I won't be watching any of his fights. It's a spectator sport afterall.

    • @BoxingGems
      @BoxingGems  2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Cool. Of course experience played a role. Floyd was 36 when he schooled Canelo. Canelo’s lead hand still isn’t what Floyd’s lead hand was when he got schooled. Canelo’s boxing IQ still isn’t what Floyd’s boxing IQ was when he got schooled. Canelo’s footwork still isn’t on par with Floyd’s when he got schooled. Feint game not as good, control and manipulation game not nearly as good, overall defense not as good, …
      At 36, Floyd was a better skilled fighter than Canelo is right now. Plus, with quicker hands and feet. So my definition of “prime” means when peak athleticism is combined with peak boxing IQ. At 36, Floyd was past his prime. I don’t see how you have an argument but go ahead and explain.
