    Another crazy thing about this fight is that this was only Floyd's second fight at 154 if I'm not mistaken. Floyd was able to withstand what appears to me to be a strength disadvantage as well as more punishment than usual. Guy wasn't just brilliant, but had a chin and was tough too

  • @vantastic3dolph493

    Floyd's head hunting made perfect sense in the middle of the ring. But if he'd have tagged cottos gut a bit more when he was working from the ropes cottos jabs would never had been a issue plus cotto would have drained out way sooner after about 9 or so early thru to the mid rds of firm 6's to the midsection. And cotto would've still had that high guard up in the center of that ring but it seemed like Floyd really wanted to prove to him that he wasn't anywhere near his level.

    I watch this fight often. In the version I usually watch the commentary is very good. They mentioned the tricky jab set up to set up the right hand you used in this video. The one at 3:10. Some of this stuff you have to really know what you looking at. Especially at normal speed. Props.

    No lie, that 1-4-5 combination is going in my toolkit. A brilliant combo. Many coaches fear teaching the rear hook because they feel fighters can use it and be put out of position, but in both boxing and kickboxing it can be a beautiful set up for the lead hand hook or uppercut, lead leg kick for kickboxing. Great breakdown bro! 👊🏽

    In the locker room after the fight Floyd said that was his toughest fight but in the later years he retracted that statement 😂. I like how Cotto stuck with the long tube socks most of if not all of his career 🧦

    • @BoxingGems

      @@BoxingGems i've heard him say throughout the years corley, augustus, cotto and the most recent... pacquiao. time to reflect tends to make anyone reconsider/reevaluate something. there was never a fight mayweather was really facing a real possibility of losing. (though some will say pre-fight injured floyd vs castillo 1 was a fight he should have lost... i disagree as the rounds don't add up for a castillo victory. just like the maidana fight; if floyd lost some rounds... he lost. that's not how scoring works though.)

  • @BernardHenryMusic
    @BernardHenryMusic ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Funfact. Although Cotto had more success than a lot of other opponents this was more Mayweather's doing than Cotto. This fight was right before he had to do a couple of months in jail and because of that he wanted to give the fans an exciting fight to remember. He was well aware of the criticism of him being a "boring fighter" and he still wanted to be considered a PPV draw upon his release. He purposely went into this fight with the mentality that he was going to bang with Cotto as opposed to being a primarily defensive fighter. It was genius and it worked. That's not to take anything a way from Cotto who was a hell of a fighter and he sure did capitalize on Floyds aggression. Much respect to both of them and their careers.

  • @Breadking100
    @Breadking100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I loved this fight. top level boxing skills on display by both men. Floyd won clean, and Cotto made it more competitive than Floyd had seen in years (which made it funner to watch). Floyd pulled away the final 3 stanzas and showed more offensive activity in this fight than had become usual for him. Would have been interesting if Cotto could have found a way to bring back that vaunted body left hook, he had largely abandoned it at this point in his career. Realistically Floyd would have blocked it with the shell even if he had it on display. Nevertheless excellent fight, great win for Floyd.

Terrence Crawford is another who can adapt like that on the fly throughout the fight in the midst of all the adrenaline and chaos. People don't realize that if I recall, Floyd besides having a prison sentence hanging over his head after the fight, was not well going into this fight and lost weight after the weigh in. He had to really bear down and gut this one out as Cotto gave an excellent showing himself. Hit Floyd with a beautiful left hook that left Floyd with a swollen jaw post fight. What can I say you had bits of everything in here from technical explanation (T-step) to mentioning "level changes" to elite level frame v control (your Chavez video) clashes, and more. I appreciate the hard work you do to educate us on the sweet science of Boxing as an art. *And* you used round 5, idk if it was cuz I asked or you already had it planned but all praise goes to your decision man. Speaking of RD 5: That's my favorite round of Boxing. I consider it the greatest round of Boxing. I know many or maybe even most will say its Hagler/Hearns rd1. In my eyes thats the runner up- but nothing can top the sheer expertise and skill demonstrated from both Floyd and Cotto in rd5. Hagler/Hearns was more fireworks than subtleties. I'm not knocking it either there's room for everything in Boxing, that's what makes this sport so great.

      I tried to make it obvious that I take your feedback and apply it to the vid. Truthfully I’m only explaining a portion of what’s going on because their is so much happening in a frame. So if you want something specific within the vid, I’ll do that. To explain everything that’s going on would be three times as many freezes and words. You mentioned you wanted multiple rounds so I extended. You mentioned you want skill vs skill so I pointed some out. You mentioned you thought Cotto did well (and I concur) and put some of that in the video. I also want everybody to understand that boxing ain’t a game and you’re going to get punched in the face no matter what. Making these vids is my therapy. But if I was in a fight for my life Floyd would be the last man I would want for help. He never wanted to really fight anybody. Just running around a jab. If he would have ever stood toe to toe with a fighter like Chavez or Duran. He wouldn’t have lasted 6 rounds.

      What fight were you looking at, he stands toe to toe plenty of times in his fights he’s just too good for anybody that’s all, he just doesn’t do it enough for you because you want him to lose so bad 😂😂😂

      Floyd, Prime Roy Jones and Prime Ray Robinson are the 3 fighters I'd bet the house on
