    Dude, Victor Ortiz and and I were childhood friends, born a few years apart, and from Garden City, KS...Victor should've picked up a sponsorship from Dr. Pepper, because he got peppered, that's what happened. Btw, I rooted for Floyd, because he was by and before that time, The Best Ever, and that's what I've believed, and known since 2000. I only bring up that point, to say, feelings don't change facts, and although I'm very proud of Victor, he was never on the level of Floyd, and his frustration showed that.

    I like how you say blade stance and that golf swing analogy was nice too. I always called it a fencing stance.

    • @BoxingGems
      @BoxingGems  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That too! but I was talking about the twist for Mayweathers counter 2 so I had to add something that twists or rotates like a golf stance and swing. It’s really just called a “bladed stance” in boxing gyms and it’s not typically a stance you want to be in. Floyd just uses it well against a southpaw in the Philly shell.

    Damn I never saw this one it’s like a mini bio/fact check + film study. Probably one of my favorites for learning purposes and enjoyment.
    Showing how the Philly works bladed with elbow parries and then when Floyd was hit due to a regular stance really helped.
    I know guys get in trouble in closed stances when they lean over towards their front hand side (e.g. devin v linares) but I haven’t seen much shell action in open stance in my personal sparring/training. In the open stance would you roll the shoulder still? And can do more leaning or ‘twisting’ to that side in the open stance?
    Awesome video
    Edit: after shadow boxing lol I’m thinking someone who really sits on there jab like Hagler did, or throws a 2 1, the elbow parry might not be enough so maybe roll the shoulder then, but positioning would still play a factor too.

    • @BoxingGems
      @BoxingGems  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Philly shell is tough regardless but very tough in the open stance. You can roll lead hand hooks. The fighter you’re fighting would have to be limited.

    To cut the ring off effectively it seems you have to step laterally whilst being kinda sqaure , is that fair to say, I've always wondered how to do it but floyd and someone else cut the ring off the same way, I'm assuming it's got something to do with lateral foot placement
