Cost about $2500 parts and labor but it also took them a month to get the parts. I have since driven it almost 20k miles (i drive for work 100-300 miles a day in it) and it is running fantastic. I am going to get a timing belt + wp + serp belt job on it as idk when it was last serviced and the serp belt is starting to crack so id presume the timing belt is somewhere in that range, and WP is a "might as well" job. For the payment i have on it at the price i got it for it is about as much as they are going for now. Mine was a 2 owner car, first owner was a rental company so im sure they took the brunt of initial powertrain service. Car now has 160k miles and is my daily beater for work.
Got a 2010 diesel manual Fiesta. Purchased with 12,000km, Now got 290,000km. Same clutch. Drove Perth to Melbourne 3500km for $210 diesel. Best car we ever had. Never missed a beat. Up the mighty diesel Fiesta. Manual of course.
I love you Scotty! You work ethic to keep dropping new videos and helping people stay informed and not get scammed in the world of cars is truly a blessing to all of us. Keep up the good work my friend!
And then we all will have to pay for it because Ford will come to the government for bailouts, which of course they will get. The burden will fall on every tax payer to pay this settlement, not on ford.
You screwed yourself by trading it in & loosing money. You should've waited. I have a 2013 Focus & my plan is to pursue a buyback, not trade it in for 6k.
Toyota’s are notorious for Frame rust in thier trucks and as far as Overlap crash testing. Poor to Fail is result with majority of Models. Subaru Crosstreks are the safest cars in all crashes definitely the better choice over a RAV4. They failed the overlap tests 2914-2016 RAV4? Death traps.
Have a 2011 Fiesta over 120,000 never any problems, it's an automatic and the day we drove it off the lot l said I feels like a manual trans, still gets almost 37 mpg
I rented a Ford Focus for 2 weeks about 4 years ago during a visit to Nevada. The interior materials were better than expected, but the front wheels would almost “skip” upon accelerating...and I’m not taking about during hard acceleration here. I’m talking about smooth, linear eases off the brake and gentle application of the throttle. I had the same car the entire trip and when I was returning it at the airport, one of the workers who inspected it to make sure I didn’t return it with any damage got into a conversation about some of the cars at the rental lot and I told him about the problem I constantly had with the car under normal acceleration. His response was “yep! The Focus and Fiesta all do that. I think it’s a transmission issue on there small Fords that’s yet to show itself”. I’ve owned Fords since then (a 2011 Taurus Limited and a 2018 Explorer) and neither have given me problems at all (outside of routine maintenance). I don’t think American car brands do small cars very well. Ford is better than GM and Chrysler (if you consider Chrysler American anymore), but Toyota still makes the best small cars...although, the latest Corollas I was in have a certain cheap, tinny, flimsy feel about them. We’ve probably seen the end of Toyota having a monopoly on quality and reliability. Problems might start showing themselves in some Toyotas with build dates that are post-2014!
I think this is why, here in Europe, like 80-90% if cars have manual transmission: I've never heard of so many problems from Ford for those models (they're sold here in Europe too). My father has a 1997 Ford Mondeo with manual transmission and he's had no problems with it with 300k kilometres (how many are in miles?). A friend has a 2008 Ford Focus and he sold it with 150k kilometres two years ago and it worked fine (it was diesel). Also manual transmission.
I’m from europe too and i’m driving my dads 2011 fiesta which is a diesel and a manual. He’s had it for 4 years and theres never been a single issue with it. It’s a great little car
I bought a 2015 fiesta as my first car back in 2018 and the thing was I was so excited over the fact that my bank would give me a loan I could afford for it, that I didn't even look at other cars or do any research for the issues with this vehicle or even know what kind of vehicle I wanted. Which is very unlike myself - I am a huge tech/PC guy and I do a lot of research before buying parts, games, etc. but for my car I didn't give it the same respect. I have one of these vehicles, and the ford dealership that I bought the car from had to pay to get one of the issues of the "TCM" - as I learned, the Transmission Control Module. I parked one day at a nice park during my lunch break at work and could not start back up once I went to leave. Managed to get it back up after being jumped off - memory does not serve well - but continued to have issues otherwise and had to carpool to work. I haven't had any issues thankfully since, but based off the news I've been following with this lawsuit, I worry if I will and wonder if it would be against the terms of my loan with my bank to get this car purchased back and a nicer car. I am wondering if this is an opportunity to get something better before I start having to pay for expensive out of pocket repairs in the future that I cannot afford.
Having grown up with Fords, I had really considered the Focus when I was looking for an economical car. I had heard about Ford's dual clutch transmission and the numerous revisions to the clutches and software. I ended up choosing a 2013 Honda Civic. It had a conventional, proven engine without turbos and it had a conventional automatic transmission with a torque converter. The 2014 had a CVT which I was not willing to take a chance on. Overall, I am happy with my choice. New cars are far too complex for their own good.
djevan 41598 I own a 2014 Focus and the trans needed to be repaired about at 78,000 miles, it was just the clutch computer and was covered under warranty, new clutch computer hasn’t failed after 10k miles and is fine. After 70k miles it’ll probably fail
Jeremy Scott Yep. My girlfriend and I looked at a 2016 Ford Focus Hatchback at an enterprise car sales but it had a lot of electrical issues some electrical components were already shorted out at only 35,000 miles
I had a 2011 Fiesta. When I test drove an automatic, I knew right away the transmission would be a problem. So I ordered a manual. It was a great little car while I had it.
Just brought used manuel 2011 for 2700. I hope to get a few things fixed and was told it was sensors. Praying it's a great everyday work car for me. It needs TLC
When I worked at a Ford dealership the technicians told our dealership management the transmissions where defective. Our management contacted Ford at Detroit. We were told the engineers had checked and and the transmissions were good. The problem was the poor training at the dealership. A few years later and the truth surfaced. Yup. Ford may go bankrupted.
@@mihaelh6783 Yeah I guessed but he made the same mistake twice and doesn't seem to realise so I thought that mabye he actually means mph for some reason lol
2 years in to the DPS6 dual clutch debacle, we at the dealers figured out Ford wasn't going to stop producing those crap transmissions and, in the service department, we told everybody that came in not to buy one. We also worked long and hard on getting customer cars bought back. We lobbied the zone reps, engineers, and anyone else at Ford to stop making them. I was told by one engineer who was being early retired that Ford was locked into a contract on those transmissions and that the more the engineering staff complained about the transmissions the more they were threatened and harassed. I wouldn't be surprised if current and former Ford employees started a lawsuit against Ford. I know we in the service department talked about doing it. But then we said the same thing during the 6.0 diesel mess.
@@jlstout7807 My mother had a powder blue 99 Grand Marquis for nearly 12 years. I'll bet it now has those oversize pimp wagon wheels, and towers over Broncos. 😞😞
My dad had a Fiesta (it was his last car before he passed away), and when taking off in first gear, it sounded/felt like someone had thrown a handful of gravel in the transmission
My dad had a Ford once. Yeah, it was a Ford Edge. He bought it for 28k with 50k miles. Yeah....drove off the lot and noticed a sound from the sunroof. He returned it the next morning. Then he went to a Nissan. You probably know what happens next.
Considered a Focus before my wife bought a 2016 Corolla with cvt, it's been just fine for 4 years. Only thing that failed is one shock that failed but Toyota took care of it.
I had a rental car Focus and I was actually pretty impressed...except for the transmission! It was really jerky upon acceleration. This does not surprise me!
I was going to make a joke about still being better than Mercedes but in this case sadly they are not. At least you are only 1/2 to 1/3 of the money spent on the car compared to a Benz.
I have a 2013 Focus hatchback with a 5 speed manual, the dealer had to order it from out of state because they had no manuals in stock. It's been a great car I really like it.
Just bought a 2019 ford fiesta from hertz and hoping the dude won't have any issues even know its still under warranty, other then that the car is great.
Well tough for Ford. You know your product is junk and then you still sell it, but go to court to be forced to so call fix the problem. My brother was given one as a loaner, some of my colleagues owned one, and my wife rented one: Focus or Fiesta, shiftless junk piles. I even considered buying one even before that, but I heard about their automatic transmission problems. Ford should have done a stop sell on both with the exception being the manual equipped ones. I never about any major problems. I truly hope as many people as possible get compensation.
The ford buyback requires you to have had a minimum of 3 repairs on the transmission to qualify for a buyback. I cant imagine anyone with that much patience holding onto their car. The biggest problem is that an owner put all this money into the car fixing the transmission 3+ times only to get compensated for the price of the car and not the cost of repairs. So the customer loses by holding onto the car or selling it back to Ford.
Fiestas mk7 in europe are sturdy cars. Diesels and petrols are bulletproof, especially odler Zetec SE (Duratec) petrol engines. In Europe we didn’t have dualt clutch transmission, only standard 5 speed manual and 4 speed automatic (that nobody bought). mk7 Fiestas are good cars and were sold like hot cookies in europe. Only common issue is steering column noise ( euro and US version suffer), even though euro Fiestas are made in Germany and Spain.
@rkb100100 Korean cars are the new Japanese cars. Japanese cars are getting worse and worse each year. Honda with their oil dilution saga, Toyota with the new crappy 8 speed transmission and several other recalls of their new RAV4 (Don't even get me started on Nissan) and Mazda, of course being Mazda, crappy reliability all around!
As a Locksmith, I can tell you that most cars after 2000 that have keys, can not be forced with a screw driver anymore. They need to be drilled if they go bad. Most will have to be destroyed and gutted before they will turn. Some have to be drilled at a specific spot and then picked to the on position with special kits. The metal in the newer locks is much harder than before when you could force them with vice grips or a screw driver. You will break your screw driver trying to twist the newer ones.
Dont worry its paid for and covered by insurance. Was a good car while it lasted . Had it up to 120mph one time . One good thing about those cars no body will ever steal one.
Dang it! I had a 2012 Focus for two years. Bought it for 21K, ran far far away from it and only got 9500 back. I should have continued to suffer! I want that depreciation back.
@@jgonsalves22 There is no "Lemon law" in Australia unfortunately. We have had so many shitbox cars here that the manufacturers has dumped on the people with little to no recourse. The Landrover "Freelander" was a a real zinger!
$$$ not sure how I fell about this, but I just bought a 2015 Ford fiesta in January... motor shuddering while stopped in traffic it's quite noticable that this happens after I fill up gas. The dealer just said the battery has a loose connection.. still happening. Now I see this video 👍🏻👍🏻
Those cars are very sensitive to battery issues. Make sure your cables are tight, corrosion free, and make sure the battery is 100% good. If you still have problems, there are numerous recalls and TSB's you can get done for free. The clutch is covered to 100K and the trans control module to 150K
Be interesting to see how this plays out also with the 1.5L they put in the escape an smaller cars have seen dozens of these cars with blown head gaskets with less then 20k on them
Those are probably Renault engines. The French make pretty decent Diesel engines but their petrol engines are merde! Just look at the BMW designed, Peugeot built Mini engines.
I took matters into my own hands and filed a Lemon Law Suit over two years ago this past November. It was a nine month long case, start to finish. Ford reimbursed my payments from the time the transmission started to act up (20k miles) to our last payment at 98k miles (it was at the Ford Mechanic on SEVEN different occasions for the SAME problem) and payed off the rest of my loan. All of this cost me $0, Ford payed all legal fees. I've now sunk in 115K miles into my 2015 "endless money pit" of a Prius without a SINGLE problem. Thanks Ford! I'm in California, BTW.
Alberto Mendoza There has been a lot of class action lawsuits against Nissan for their transmission, all resulting in settlements, like last year, they extended warranties on the CVTs for the Altimas. Also if Nissan was to buy back all there cars with their garbage CVT, Nissan would go bankrupt, since they are already on their way, and so would Mitsubishi, since the alliance would break apart.
They go to auctions. Same as any other car that any other manufacturer buys back. If they are being resold at a Ford dealer then it is disclosed that there was a buy back on that car and the car will usually have some kind of free extended warranty
All this talk of focus and fiesta recalls and failed transmissions, and I'm sitting in my fusion, just thankful they didn't reuse that transmission in my car 😂
Scotty you should have the old rev up your engine intro at the start and the new one at the end of the video seeing all the parts fall to pieces, thus the end.
mmm nuts. Had a side accident at 20mph when changing lanes in a roundabout. Door was dented bus still works so I did nothing as I was to blame. I would hear a creaking noise when I took off the acceleration. 4 months later I went to change my water pump, turns out I was missing an engine mount bolt on the side where I had the accident. I only had 1 left. Ohhh boooyyy
My 1963 Ford Falcon has the perfect anti-theft device-a three on the tree manual transmission! Safety of the car-that is a completely different matter!
I had an ‘03 Focus hatchback I got in ‘05. I gave it away to my niece after driving it really hard daily for 15 years and not having any issues with it that whole time. For that reason I got an ‘18 ST and so far so good on it as well at 25k miles so far on it.

And then we all will have to pay for it because Ford will come to the government for bailouts, which of course they will get. The burden will fall on every tax payer to pay this settlement, not on ford.

I have a 2012 Ford Fiesta, I had no idea there were problems with the car, going to look into this, good looking out Scotty.
The new video animation is absolutely beautiful.
And I went and bought the Focus ST. It's got a 6-speed manual, and it's been perfect for 105K miles.

@@MisterMikeTexas Only in America. Saw a New Ranger yesterday visiting here in France. 6 Speed manual.
The focus has always been a crappy car. This shouldn't be a surprise to their owners.

Corporate philosophy: people are disposable, profits are not!
How come this isnt happening to Nissan with there Altima and Sentra with their Jatco transmissions
Because there are shittier transmissions out there.....and Ford is making them💩
Alberto Mendoza There has been a lot of class action lawsuits against Nissan for their transmission, all resulting in settlements, like last year, they extended warranties on the CVTs for the Altimas. Also if Nissan was to buy back all there cars with their garbage CVT, Nissan would go bankrupt, since they are already on their way, and so would Mitsubishi, since the alliance would break apart.
