Doug, love your reviews, but giving a fast car a 2 in acceleration score doesn't seem right. You describe it as "quick" and flooring it brought a smile to your face, I think you gotta re-think your Doug Score for acceleration. You're spoiled by driving too many hyper-cars!
That smile that was brought to his face from the acceleration and the noise of the car made me 100% regret buying my Toyota IM which I got four 16.5k. And now theres dealers selling fiesta st for that
His acceleration score is based on a completely objective scale, less than 3 seconds is a 10 and 7 seconds or longer is a 1. No subjectivity at all. You can see the full scale on his website. Also, the whole DougScore is biased towards sports cars, Doug said that when he invented the system.
I get that he is grading acceleration based on performance cars, but there is more to acceleration than just 0-60 times. A certain FWD car may not accelerate as hard as a RWD car from 0-60 but still outpull that same car from 40-80mph. I love the videos but the acceleration ratings, while objective, are still misleading.
its crazy how the turbo 4s now make more power than the old iron 300ci motors of the late 90s muscle cars (camaro mustang) could barely make 140hp up to 270 max out.
Turbos used to put about 10 to 12 psi into an engine. But with the advent of modern computer controls, the Fiesta ST pressurizes up to 22 psi. That works out to the same count of O2 molecules as a 4.0L engine in the lower revs, which explains all that great torque.
@@joey9511 not naturally aspirated, which I assume is the comparison made. There were some 60s-70s vehicles with big blocks that had ~500 ft/lbs of torque, but very few engines that could rev out far enough to make those 500hp without a supercharger.

I bought a 2015 FiST in February. Did a couple quick mods. I've owned a 1994 Taurus SHO, 2001 Mustang (which I did A LOT of engine and suspension work to), and other "fun" cars, but the FiST is the most fun car I've owned. I bought it as a daily driver to go to/from work, and I get a smile every day I drive it. I'm also 40 years old and 6'4" tall...
A couple of notable things. Along with pressing the traction control button for “sport” mode, hold it down for 3-4 seconds and almost fully disables the traction control. The 0-60 time is bad because they torque limited first and second gear. This is to help manage the torque steer in lower gears. If you get a tune from a good company they will take that out and your 0-60 will be much better.
That one must be a 2017 or 2018 for two reasons. The gap above the glovebox used to have ambient lighting come out of it until 2016; that was it's ultimate purpose since the Fiesta came to the states in 2010, but they dropped it because people were complaining that it reflected on the passenger door window. And my 2016 doesn't have the wind deflector by the side mirrors. The storage space between the cupholder and shifter is actually handy for small stuff, but the one by the dash is useless as you noted. My arm actually doesn't hit the armrest when I shift so it really depends on your body type. I believe the early years of the Fiesta ST had the antenna actually hit the spoiler (as evidenced by this video th-cam.com/video/_0ouYzXp96U/w-d-xo.html ). I'm sure they shortened the antenna rather than changing the spoiler design. Motorocraft is Ford OEM. You missed out on the factory option Recaro seats. They change the car completely in the corners in my opinion.
So infuriating seeing him misplace the hood prop both times. Its shaped that way so if a gust of wind comes it holds the hood in place and doesnt detach from the hood prob and fall on you troubleshooting on track or on the road if it ever will break down
Super fast doesn't necessarily make a car fun to drive. Watch the track reviews of the Fiesta ST, mute the volume and just look at the expressions on the faces of the people driving it. It's fun to drive and it's based on Fords entry level car so even people who don't have lots of money can still have a fun car. That's what makes it such a cool car.
PeRX you can't think of it in American terms. The Fiesta was never intended for the American market. In Europe there is the Ka and the Fiesta is meant to fit between that and the Focus. And the Fiesta ST is quite a bit more expensive than a Focus, so it probably makes more sense to buy a Focus. The existance of the Ka pushes Fiesta prices into Focus territory..
The biggest problem with these cars, I have a 2015 that I bought new, is the paint is incredibly cheap. After a few months of owning it I had a few noticeable rock chips. Had them fixed and had a clear bra put in the hood, front bumper, and fenders. It's a worthwhile purchase, highly recommended
@@emmcee476 They run better on premium, but they can also run on regular octane. The computer will adjust the timing automatically to compensate. Just less power.
Doug, the gap in the dash is actually where the Start/Stop indicator is on the UK spec car, most of the weird stuff in the US car is where they have changed stuff from the European 3 door ST for the US 5 door one. the touch screen is so far away because the EU models dont have one, so the screen was actually even further back, they have just molded a bolt on part to move if forward as far as possible.
As a owner of two 2016 Fiestas I can tell you four things Doug. First, the gaps on the console ARE capable of holding items without them sliding all over the car. Second the gap on the dash has a ambient lighting strip in it as do the foot wells and under seat areas. Thirdly if you hold the ESC OFF button for roughly 5-10 seconds you can disable both the traction control and stability control for track use. and fourth and finally if you turn off a turbocharged car at higher revs you can shorten the lifespan of the turbo bearing. I am not yelling at you Doug just informing you.
Ambient lighting was removed from that gap for the later production year models. So in this one it probably didn't have it. Apparently Ford thought it was distracting.
@@FeedYourGreed Mine has Ambient lighting in that gap above the glovebox, it's a 2014, I think in mid 2015 or maybe 2016 they removed the light there. I'm in Canada but I'm pretty sure we get the same exact same Mexico Assembled 5 door Fiesta STs that USA does. I think around the same time, they improved the suspension which gives much better ride quality without sacrificing the handling. So I'd probably prefer the one without the interior lights if it means it comes with better suspension.
@@BensCoffeeRants They unplugged the light strip at the factory on recent ones due to glare in the passenger window at night, but you can plug it back in yourself.

Doug, love your reviews, but giving a fast car a 2 in acceleration score doesn't seem right. You describe it as "quick" and flooring it brought a smile to your face, I think you gotta re-think your Doug Score for acceleration. You're spoiled by driving too many hyper-cars!
Agreed, sounds like he was just going by the numbers, and comparing to much more expensive and powerful cars.
The number is based on the 0-60 time. Check the vid he made about explaining the doug score
@@HollywoodF1 "the same count of O2 molecules"
thats just because of emissions. There were factory 500 hp muscle cars in the 60- 70s
@@joey9511 not naturally aspirated, which I assume is the comparison made. There were some 60s-70s vehicles with big blocks that had ~500 ft/lbs of torque, but very few engines that could rev out far enough to make those 500hp without a supercharger.
I follow Dougs videos and really do like watching them...but for a automotive writer to some how not know that Motocraft is a Ford branch is really cringey to watch.

I have a 2014 and the antenna doesn't hit the spoiler. Maybe a couple ST's went out with too long of antennas in 2014, interesting.
It’s not a 2018. My 2018 has a backup camera since they are standard for the 2018 model year after being federally mandated. Must be a 2017?
Tom Harkins it says in the description its a 2017

2 positions for the “hood prop” doug? Really?? Hmm, look at the interesting shape of the prop there doug.
So infuriating seeing him misplace the hood prop both times. Its shaped that way so if a gust of wind comes it holds the hood in place and doesnt detach from the hood prob and fall on you troubleshooting on track or on the road if it ever will break down
Thank you! That annoyed the hell out of me.

That's what makes it such a cool car.
also miata
Daniel Private the Fiesta isn't Ford's entry level car...
Filipe Saramago yes it is. It’s there smallest car they offer, at least in America
Agreed. Small, light cars I’ve always found more fun then high horsepower cars. And I really do love high horsepower cars.

Bought a 2019 this past summer. Haven't stopped smiling since.
I picked up a 2018 in Orange Spice with the leather Recaros. LOVE it and wish I had bought it sooner!
Do these cars require premium fuel?
@@justinhollan Cool, I wonder if people know it can be re-connected. I wasn't aware. Plugs behind the glovebox?
