      Probably at the cost of noise, at least that's what I find. I have the M15R5 as well as the 51m and I actually went back to the 51m. My M15R5 only has the 3070 and it scores almost the same in Timespy as the 51m, but at the cost of heat and noise. My 51m is MUCH quieter under load as it does not have to ramp the fans way up, and it does not get as hot as my 5900hx.
      Either way, it's amazing to see how far gaming laptops have come in just a few years.

    I have finally chosen to replace my ATX rig and my G752VS with a mini-itx rig using a Dan A4. The main reason was overall cost and the fact that I can add a portable gaming monitor later when Asus releases the XG17. The Area 51m is great, but the total package is very heavy, the fact to have 2 power bricks is super cumbersome to move and as you said, there is 0 guarantee on future GPU upgrade. CPU upgrade is clearly not going to be possible as Intel loves to create new chipsets with new CPU generations.
    Thanks Jarrod for all your great reviews, it helped me do an educated choice.

    for those who want to see the clevo p775tm vs this machine,here it is: (all are taken from jarrod's video "rtx2080 vs 1080")
    t= 22:33
    all in 1920x1080
    battlefield V :
    rtx off : 121.35fps avg / 1% low 99.5fps
    rtx on : 56.91 avg & 49.31fps low 1%
    far cry5

    shadow of the tombraider: 94avg & 83 for 1% low
    watch dogs 2:86.75fps avg & 61fps in 1%low ; t=21:33
    only in tom clancy's rainbow six siege,the p775tm performs better: 244.66fps avg & 164 for 1%low : t=21:03
    the 9900K was throttling in that device if I remember correctly and maybe nvidia driver/games gets more optimized & that's why the result shows better performance in this chassis, right?

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing the results! Hard to compare a lot of the data though unless you test in the same part of the game as me, otherwise build in benchmarks are a good way to compare fairly and directly. Drivers do see improvements over time, generally they list the specific games that they improve in the update.

    • @JarrodsTech

      I don't think I've ever seen the 2080 Ti claim, there have never been any 1080 Ti or 2080 Ti laptops and I doubt we'll ever see that. That said, I guess if they are making their own module I suppose they could do it if they want, but given they had to cap the power limit of the 2080 down to prevent fires it seems like a Ti wouldn't be possible.

      @@JarrodsTech I have bought one, exited to see how bad backlight bleeding, keyboard vibrations and Predator Sense configuration are for you. The helios is a beast and surprisingly quiet if you run it at boosted (4.4GHz all 8 cores & edited +180 MHz/+1000MHz on the RTX2080); Also interested if you manage to find a way to enable a proper CPU tuning for the Helios, as messing with XTU profiles in Predator Sense always leads to the machine not being to apply them anymore, while my machine would run perfectly fine with -0.125V undervolting at all cores 4.6GHz)

  • @SportbikerNZ
    @SportbikerNZ 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Excellent laptop reviews man. Your performance graphs are the main reason I finally actioned undervolting these last few days.
    I've been using laptops as my primary for years now. I was happy replacing the thermal compound as I like burrowing with a screwdriver. But I'd always seen undervolting in the same vein as overclocking as a 'step too far' unnecessary hassle I didn't want bother with. I wished I'd learned it sooner as it really does make very significant differences. Especially when combined with a bump in the permanent TDP through turbo boost power max in XTU.
    My 4710hq was power limiting constantly in synthetics after the short term power boost window expired. Annoying as thermals weren't a problem after repaste. Obviously then I could see the only way to try and continue full cpu speed was to increase the long term TDP (turbo boost power max) and try to get as much of an undervolt as possible.
    Now I see undervolting as a must, if not for performance boost, at least for temps. It's been a great learning experience.

    The regular AW BIOS doesn't let users overclock the RAM over 2400 Mhz so they hired an overclocker and gave him a custom BIOS to try and win the Firestrike score record, he cheated by using an LOD (Level of detail) Hack but they still ended up being beaten by Clevo:

    What I use now with the same configurations as above. Amazing machine but the Alienware command center makes the Laptop a bit laggy. For the price, this is absolutely unacceptantable. Lagging in boot-up (Bios start-up time 5.0 secs). Also when using the task manager when trying to switch from Name tab to cpu/gpu/memory... etc. I experience a 2-3secs lag. I found out the Alienware command center was responsible for this after uninstalling. Unfortunately, I can't do without it. Still an absolute beast of a laptop.

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have zero issues with it here, it's honestly expecting when you shove an 8 core / 16 thread overclockable desktop CPU into a laptop, and regardless of the heat it is still absolutely smashing anything else you can put in a laptop. The coolingpad is this one: th-cam.com/video/Zx2EnUD-DoM/w-d-xo.html sorry forgot to link it in the description.

    Great review and from personally owing this beast I can say that I love it. the laptop is not for everyone and fits my needs well as I work as a contractor overseas so i travel a bunch. The price is high but didnt hurt my wallet which was good and the performance is something i feel is a you get what you pay for thing. AWCC is trash but for me on each update i have to uninstall the command center suite and install the updated version and after that download the latest OC controls and install, doing it that way has caused me no issues though I mostly just use the bios settings for my overclocking needs. Overall the machine is a beast and with each update performance seems to improve which is a plus, its never overheated and not having to use both powerbricks is great, and for most games with the 180w brick , games are capped or only capable of a max of 60fps. Also after the new nvidia update games like Apex legends run at a constant 144fps which is a finally moment for me lol.

    Max fans might be loud at 55 dB, but it don’t sound obnoxious unlike some laptops I’ve heard at that noise level, as some give a high pitch whine at that noise level, whereas this is just a louder hum sound. Repasting with Kryonaut or Conductonaut may give better cooling results.
