      Or, the ones where the driver gives the cops permission to search, and the cops physically destroy the seats, dash, carpet, etc. while looking for contraband, and when the driver protests, the cops just tell him "You gave us permission."

      Doesn't everything become outdated within a year? Buying a computer is almost not even a worthwhile investment anymore they become useless so fast. If computers start advancing too quickly, people will quit buying because whatever they buy now will become outdated far too quickly. The computer development industry will probably crash, and computers will stop advancing for the forseeable future. At the very least, the progression may slow down as fewer people are involved in it.

    *You guys need to hand the dbrand Prism over to the least phone-techy video-cleared person on your team, and have them clean the screens and apply it to a few phones.* Let us see if the protector and applicator really holds up to its promises. Also do blind tests around the office comparing feel to glass protectors. *If(!)* precise and bubble-free application is actually as easy as they claim, this thing needs way more promotion.

    • @wobblysauce
      @wobblysauce 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      After doing some screen protectors for other people, gotten to the point only 2 have ever had bubbles and both on the cheap plastic covers, the rest have gone down bubble free, it is the alignment that is good to spot on that is the harder part.

      Looks like Janice is going to make another appearance...

    • @pr0xZen
      @pr0xZen 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@wobblysauce My personal experience, and from feedback from friends and family, is that the rigid glass protectors are easier to deal with if flat. The curved ones, not quite. Those few that has silicon adhesive on the entire protector anyway, those with only a thin strip around the outer edges are easier, but they're also pretty shaite in use. Alignment is always a challenge. On many models, even if the screen is "flat" it had a slight curve at the very end towards the bezels, so if you get it half a mm off, you get an air (->dust&grime)gap. One of the difficulties I've seen for novices with softer protectors, including myself, is time. To align it well, apply it while working out any small bubbles underway, it takes enough time that dust or fibre particles in the air reach the screen or protector. And we've all had poor success with the do-it-in-the-bathroom-after-running-the-shower technique. Some people seem just better adept at it, some get a lot of training. But nost people have only put on a few, or none at all (themselves). Adding to that, these brand-name protectors tend to be rather expensive, so you'll be wanting to get a satisfactory result on the first go if possible, not order a 3-pack. If this alignment arrangement can help this in a serious manner, it may very well be worth its premium for us mere screen protector muggles and mortals. Especially if they do full-cover for curved screens. And I'm kinds hoping this thing works out, dbrand has a good track record for precision. Lets see if that can transfer well to this kind of user application.
      TheStaniG Maybe - Janice might be a wizkid with smartphones, we don't know yet. I think(?)

    I just ordered the R2 version of this machine. I decided to opt for the NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super for the more open architecture and higher storage space potential than the sleeker, thinner Alienware M17 R3 with the RTX 3070/3080 GPUs that just dropped. And though I know it will be a long time before I have to worry about it, I didn't want to be stuck with RAM chips soldered to the board like it is on the M17. But I wanted to see the inside of this beast with my own eyes before it arrives, because I couldn't be sure I understood what I was reading--that it actually has the potential for a LOOOOT more storage space. I was nervous that it would be *just* two PCIe slots, or *just* one PCIe slot with hard drive bay depending on what configuration you ordered, but no. I work with big graphic files and 3D files as well as gaming, and that is going to be such a Godsend to be able to throw another drive in there. The fact that I now know that I can upgrade the GPU at a later time is...well, it's not just icing on the cake, it's the whole dessert menu.
    Anyway, I appreciate your enthusiasm in this video, because it certainly let me know I made the right choice. Fun to watch. Can't wait to tear my own open, now!

    My 2012 Alienware M17x R4 is still going strong in 2019, after being hauled in over 50 flights across Europe, Asia and North America. The external case is scratched from all the luggage suitcases its been crammed in & thrown around on flights, but the internals & screen, are solid. Also never had to service anything on it (I think a key popped off and i just pushed it back in, once, maybe in 2015?). Dell makes really solid laptops.

      Laptop's had this longgggg before dell/ alienware. My laptop has the 8700k but like most laptop's the cost of replacing is more expensive then it's worth. The main problem is the GPU'S which if you go like Dell's solution will still cause problems, since you can't know for sure if your motherboard will be able to handle the next generation. MSI did something similar but they used mxm GPU'S instead of there own solution, they quickly dropped the idea since each refresh meant slight changes per motherboard.

    Upgradeable and laptop are two words I usually don't use in the same sentence really. That is because some of them have very few if any parts that can be upgraded. Like RAM for example, it is often at its limit in some laptops. Then the GPU, I never had a lap top in which I could upgrade that ever even though I know that some have the slot for it. Most laptops I buy are cheap and sell for around $400. It gets you a laptop that is usable for anything except games and video editing (simply because of the heat it would generate if used for those things).

Then they dropped it completely (apart from lower power Precision workstation GPUs) and went all BGA soldered which is why the 15 and 17 now has a reputation as fragile, underperforming, overpriced shiny thin junk. Alienware have also been careful to state the intent is for *replaceable* graphics, not *upgradeable*... go read about the trouble that their "upgradeable" promise got MSI into a couple of years back when they refused to honour that for 10 series GPUs

    I bought a Alienware laptop a few years back and it had throttling issues from the get go and I could only play games on low settings when the system was rated for medium to high settings of which I was only going to set it to medium settings anyways to prolong its lifespan. I brought it to an authorized Dell PC repair shop and they couldn't find out why it was throttling. So they suggested to buy a GPU upgrade from Dell. I contacted Dell and bought a GPU upgrade and when the card came I brought it to the authorized PC repair shop and they installed it for free because they couldn't solve the throttling issue. They tested it and it still had the same throttling issue. So, I tried a different PC shop and they found that the throttling issue was programmed into the BIOS itself and said that they could try to update the BIOS to get rid of the throttling so I gave them the go head to do so. A few days later they called me and gave me bad news, my Alienware laptop became a brick. The PC shop offered to gave me a used decent laptop for free because they bricked my Alienware which was pretty cool of them. I then contacted Dell and they told me that they couldn't give me a replacement, or give me a different one of equal value or even a refund because I brought the laptop to an unauthorized repair shop. I will never trust Dell or alienware again!

    For the GPU you need upgrade kits (and maybe CPU as well) from Alienware, but storage and RAM you can put in whatever you want. I went completely overboard with my setup when it comes to RAM and CPU, but opted for RTX 2060 and only 500 gigs of storage. I should've gone all out, but I figured if I will be using it for work and for gaming, to have it as light as possible, and if push comes to shove, I can upgrade later. Until then, I got myself a 1TB external SSD to keep games on and I keep that one at home, as do I the sencond power adapter (since at work I'm not gaming but mostly doing programming and I don't need the GPU power).
    The only problem I have with this laptop is that the backpack for it doesn't exist except the Alienware branded ones, and I was hoping to get away with a cheaper and more spatious alternative. As for availability of those backpacks, they don't seem to be easily available in my country, which just adds onto the same problem.
    Sans backpack, the laptop doesn't have any problems (if you know youre hardware and software) except that the thought of opening it up and cleaning it is probably scarier than actually doing it and I haven't done that in a while.
    All in all, it's an expensive laptop, but I got a great opportunity on it and I'm glad I didn't discard it and finally have a gaming machine of my dreams.

    Linus needs to look into Fujitsu's N-Series laptops. Fully upgrade-able, and the best tech support and customer service of any tech company I've ever dealt with, every time I've ever dealt with them. The only downside, is how hard it is to actually find someone selling them.

    When Dell allows you to take apart their latest $$$$$ gadget "live", on camera... It kind of shows what a great reputation you built not only in the eyes of the manufacturers, but also in the eyes of the customers. They don't mind the "inconvenience" as they know they will get a fair opinion that the customers will take seriously. Well done Linus! Honestly.

      No, it tells that Dell is confident in their unique device and show you that it's actually different. It's marketing, it's not about reputation with Linus.

      @@fishywtf yes it's marketing and yes dell is confident about it, but can you show me any other youtubers allowed to do this much extensive search on their laptop in CES 2019. Do you know why? Because he got the reputation of 7.9 million subscribers. Don't be so stupid 😏
