If you can find one for sale that's already been rebuilt I'd say you will have years of reliability

I’m someone who doesn’t love manual enough to deal with it in traffic living in a city with over 1 mill ppl so I’m glad the Auto seems to be pretty good in this car. I just know it’s going to be annoying hearing mf’s cry about me not driving a manual, I’ve never understood why people care what others want to drive
Thanks I definitely love mine still to this day. You get user to people having a cry that the car isn't manual but yeah I agree it's weird that people get so hung up on it
Hey Corey no it's an aftermarket Android headunit, I have a link to it in my newer videos and will have to update the description in this older video soon
Hey Ruben, yeah definitely each to their own as if we all had the same taste car makers wouldn't make multiple models and specs and life would be boring. I'd actually go the opposite of you and only get manual if a dual clutch auto wasn't an option. If it's a conventional auto then manual the way as those are no fun, like the Evo 7 for example comes in both auto or manual but the auto is a conventional torque converter box and is awful to drive.
@@tomm6789 but also more fragile when wanting to put power through it, both trans are to appease a certain crowd. I myself would take an sst over the manual just because of traffic where I live and I wouldnt want huge horsepower being that the only place I'd be racing too is a light most of the time😂

Hello. I’m interested in an evo but don’t know what I should get. I know I want an evo x. But I’m confused about automatic and manual. To my understanding in your video, your can can do both?
I have made a few videos showing how they drive now but watching videos can only do so much so I would suggest doing a driving both the manual and SST to see what you prefer. I obviously preferred the SST but I know its not for everyone
I am debating between the auto and manual too, so youre using s-sport to preserve the clutch packs but wouldn't the quicker shifts be bad for the synchros or gears themselves? (putting more stress on them)
Hey mate, so the slower shifts you get in normal or sport mode are because the gearbox is slipping the clutches to give a smoother shift. When in S-Sport it will give the least amount of clutch slip and preserve the clutches, seems like it would be worse for the SST since It shifts so violently but it is definitely better to drive it like that
Hey mate it depends on how you're driving, if your trying to drive normally then change before 3,000rpm. If you're wanting to hit a bit of boost but not go crazy maybe around 4k rpm and if you're wanting to drive hard then shift between 5.5 -7k You get used to it though and will become second nature to you just like it does when driving a manual trans
@@kikoliezlleo hey mate, yes I downshift if ill be slowing down for the round about or turn. You want to always keep the car in the right gear so that it has proper acceleration, its hard to explain but you'll know what I mean as if you tried to accelerate in say 6th gear at 60kms an hour (which is bad for the engine so don't do that) it will feel like it is in the wrong gear so won't accelerate properly. So you always want to keep the car in a suitable gear for the speed and RPMs of the engine

Just wanted to make sure, so in normal and sport mode the car will always be in automatic but in s sport it will always be in manual and never shift up unless the driver does so?
No you can drive the car in auto or manual in either normal sport or s sport but in s sport and auto it eill basically hold the gears longer and try to keep engine close to 6k rpm
@@JacksonStrain ahh I see, so in s sport it will technically still shift. So if I drive it on auto s sport is that still bad on the clutch? If in s sport I should only be driving it in manual?

Hi mate at the time of this video I was 257kw on E85 but have since changed turbos and am now at 287kw on E85. Those are Australian numbers so if you're in the U.S consider those mustang dyno figures
Hey Jackson, nice video. When in ssport mode, do you downshift manually, or do you let the gearbox do it for you? Is there any way which is superior? Also where did you get those cool paddle shift extensions ?
Hey Sid, I do the downshift with the paddles myself and usually just go down to 2nd gear and let the car do the downshift into 1st. As for the paddles they're from shift koncepts if you look down my video list near the bottom there will be a video of me installing them which was one of my 1st videos and there is a link to the paddles in the description
I bought an used lancer x ralliart and it also has the tc-sst dual clutch transmission, but i already had to bring it to the repair shop. Maybe the pre-owner forgot to do the service for changing the transmission oil 😕 Also the oilpump for 4wd system needs to be fixed Hope you don't get these problems Good luck!
Hey mate I'm not exactly sure how many kms I had at the time but its definitely become more noticeable in the last 1.5 years so I'd say around the 140,000kms mark
Hi Ainsley, the engines will be the same other than a revised timing chain which was in the 2011+ models I believe. Other than that it would just be the aftermarket modifications that will be different
Yeah they also made an auto Evo 7 and Evo 9 wagon. Those were conventional torque converter autos though. The Evo X has a dual clutch auto trans made by getrag
So the TCU has recently been cracked and there's a bunch of changes that have been made so now with that done you could comfortably drive in auto with no issues. Check the video I did on the TCU 9000 SST tune
best bet is joining some evo facebook groups or searching for evoxforums on Google and reading up. be warned that servicing for any performance or turbo car will be higher than a normal commuter car but the trade off is how fun they are to drive

I see why you like that auto hearing how fast the gear charge i like. But that slow ass gear charge in other auto would kill me im sitting there yelling at the car to charge gears, but after hearing this imma test out the dual clutch
They are a great car and as long as you maintain them they seem to be very reliable. Either the manual or auto is a great choice and btw the auto isn't a CVT in the Evo its a dual clutch auto instead, the CVT just comes in the non turbo auto lancers
If you wanted to drag race regularly it would be the best option to get one with a rebuilt SST or get the SST rebuilt with upgraded clutches as once that's done they can handle more power and torque, for stock clutches 420nm is about what most tuners cap it at but once you upgrade the clutches you can as high as you like. My wifes MR has had multiple drag days and launches (when the previous owner had it) and with stock clutches and around 390whp it did a best of 11.81 quarter mile time.
@@JacksonStrain Lovely. I wasn't even aware that evos had this DCT option, since I've been in the diesel world for the past 2-3 years and all those automatics, ZF6/8 speeds hold around 1,000NM no problem and I got used to the absolute smoothness and robustness they offer and I just feel that manual transmissions doesn't do it for me anymore... both for daily driving and drag racing.
@@RY3ER_ yeah after owning this dual clutch Evo I think any cars that I buy from now on will he the same unless it's and older car that has the choice of manual or convention 4 speed auto as in that case manual is the better choice. But of looking into Evos and wanting something that can launch and make great power I'd look into Kozmic motorsports if you're in the U.S as they do some serious builds and are running 9s on one of their customers cars
To be honest really. It's the other way around. Manual is cheaper for maintenance. But for preference it does boil down to what you like more for sure.
Rebuilding a MT transmission is do-able for people with basic maintenance skills and a hydraulic press, an automatic transmission is not build able at home, most shops just order a new one instead of rebuilding the automatic transmission.
Hi, its fine to drive it in Auto but when in sport or S-Sport mode it will always tey to hold the gears a bit long which is fine if you're wanting to drive hard but when just cruising it will be Nnoying and will use a lot more fuel. I mainly use the paddles to change gears yes. I have recently made a video showing how the car drives in all the modes in both auto or manual shifting which might answer the question better
I have a question, I am looking at a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer ralliart that is an sst and has 105k miles on it for my first car, would you recommend it? I wanted one that was a manual transmission but my parents won’t let me get one, would this be a good option and is it reliable?

Hi, you will get mixed results when asking this question but it all seems to come down to how the transmission was maintained and driven by previous owners. It still has a clutch, but with solenoid actuators that does the clutching for you. Unlike a traditional automatic transmission. Technically its not a traditional automatic theres nothing alike with it at all in functionality or technically with a traditional automatic. No one can change faster than a computer. Fastest cars in the world are auto's. Dct transmissions are the future. The computer clutches for you. Hint... the old school WRC evos were semi automatics enough said. Is the sst in the MR reliable?
Hi mate I've had mine for 6 years now and it has never let me down.
I am about to rebuild the SST as my clutches are slipping a little but that's to be expected for a 2008 model with 175,000kms on it.
If you can find one for sale that's already been rebuilt I'd say you will have years of reliability

I’m someone who doesn’t love manual enough to deal with it in traffic living in a city with over 1 mill ppl so I’m glad the Auto seems to be pretty good in this car. Thanks I definitely love mine still to this day. You get user to people having a cry that the car isn't manual but yeah I agree it's weird that people get so hung up on it
is the navigation screen stock or is it an add on because i LOVE it, i didn't see it listed on your bio
Hey Corey no it's an aftermarket Android headunit, I have a link to it in my newer videos and will have to update the description in this older video soon
To each their own, I wouldn’t see myself getting a automatic when it’s available in manual
The SST is much faster of a shift than the human hand.
@@tomm6789 but also more fragile when wanting to put power through it, both trans are to appease a certain crowd.
When in S-Sport it will give the least amount of clutch slip and preserve the clutches, seems like it would be worse for the SST since It shifts so violently but it is definitely better to drive it like that
hey jackson, hopefully you can still answer this. how do i know when do up shift?
Hey mate it depends on how you're driving, if your trying to drive normally then change before 3,000rpm.
If you're wanting to hit a bit of boost but not go crazy maybe around 4k rpm and if you're wanting to drive hard then shift between 5.5 -7k
You get used to it though and will become second nature to you just like it does when driving a manual trans
Jackson Strain How about when downshifting?
Jackson Strain im starting to get used to it, but do you downshift when turning or going in roundabouts?

What lb-ft/nm can these boxes handle max ? Are they viable to drag race/launch with high hp figures ?
If you wanted to drag race regularly it would be the best option to get one with a rebuilt SST or get the SST rebuilt with upgraded clutches as once that's done they can handle more power and torque, for stock clutches 420nm is about what most tuners cap it at but once you upgrade the clutches you can as high as you like.

SST>Getrag DCT for the Evo
What head unit is that?
Hey mate it's just an Android headunit, if you click on one of my more recent videos there'll be a link in the description
@@JacksonStrain thanks, earned a sub!
Thanks mate
Selling my STI and buying an evo automatic lmao.
I chose my auto evo over an STI and still have no regrets 6 years later
It still has a clutch, but with solenoid actuators that does the clutching for you. Unlike a traditional automatic transmission. Technically its not a traditional automatic theres nothing alike with it at all in functionality or technically with a traditional automatic. No one can change faster than a computer. Fastest cars in the world are auto's. Dct transmissions are the future. The computer clutches for you. Hint... the old school WRC evos were semi automatics enough said. Manuals are for emotional drivers not logical drivers even though i have driven manuals ha ha and got converted...... Logic says DCT automatics are the way to go, not emotions. SST transmission is a DCT transmission many manufacturers have there own name. DCT transmission cars...GTR 35 and up, Porsches, VW Golf r models, Audi sport cars, Dodge SRT autos, most of the top sports cars have DCT transmissions. Except the last Holden HSV models or ss. Emotions vs logic.
Yes agreed and I did mention in the video it's not the conventional boring auto as I've driven and not enjoyed them at all, it actually has two clutches one more odd gears and one for even so always has the next year engaged.
@@JacksonStrain absolutely agaree, sorry the relpy is in regards to the coventional manual drivers negative responses, I'll edit it for future reference so theres no misunderstanding. Great footage.
@@stopspin oh ok make sense, thanks mate 🤘
Those who disliked the video either don’t have a car or drive a slow car
Haha must be something like that
it is reliable?
Mine has been for 7 years now, a few things have been upgraded over time but nothing that's left me stranded
@@JacksonStrain what kind of improvements have you made to the automatic transmission? ....i saw a video on youtube where the clutch basket scratches the gearbox
Its an evo so its cool🤷🏼👏🏻
