      Nope. Nobody buys sports cars nowadays, specially sports mid sized sedans right now. People only say how much they like sports cars like these but when they have the money and need a new car they buy suvs, cross overs and such. Every company nowadays need an suv and a cross over to keep afloat.
      Axing cars like this is a smart move since this isn't what the market wants anymore.

    The 6 speed manuals were the glass ones, the SST can handle a bit but the 5 speed manual is King for holding power, mine has been making 700hp for the last couple of years with no issues, i have the evo x final edition with 5 sp manual trans and its great!

    Evo X SST owner here. Very nice build indeed! Basically the three modes on the diff are changing the point when the center diff locks. If you image a turn, snow mode keeps center diff locked for a longer duration when you enter/exit turn, gravel (also used when raining) for less and tarmac for even less.
    The three modes in the gearbox are also changing the throttle response making it more sharp as you move up the modes.
    S-Sport is indeed best one for a car with a tune because it puts more pressure on the clutch packs so less slip and therefore less wear.
    There has been done some serious tuning on the gearbox as we discussed on a previous video. Dodson clutch packs and as I can see a very good tune, almost no slip!!
    Very good job, great video!
    The Evos are indeed cars built over 10 years who can give today's hot hatches a run for their money!

    • @NikosAl
      @NikosAl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Noah hi there. I haven't had any issues honestly but I'm on stage 1. The key with the sst is in general to check temperature before you start pushing it and to also make sure you don't overheat it above 120C. Finally to also change sst fluid every 15-20k km the most. If you are making over 50-55kg-m of torque then you should consider using dodson clutch packs. I think on stage 1 it's making around 48-50kg-m so stock clutches are fine.

    • @jeremysteinacker4889
      @jeremysteinacker4889 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@noahcerbins I have an SST and 99% of the SST failures ive seen/heard about are from improper maintenance. You can ONLY use OEM transmission fluid, put anything else in there it WILL die. You also have to change fluid at least every 30k miles when the manual says 60k miles. 15-20k miles is better. You shouldn't go WOT under 145F, and you shouldn't launch under 160F. Follow these rules and it will last at least 120k miles. There is a shift fork issue that will need to be fixed eventually. The 2-4 shift fork is plastic with a magnet glued to the end and the magnet will fall off at some point. Dodson makes a billet replacement. The main thing separating SST from 5speed is cost. Both clutches are are rated from the factory around 400ft lbs. A 5speed clutch replacement is $1K while an SST clutch replacement is $2500+. The SST is proven at over 900whp/600wtq. An SST equipped car has run 9.43 in the 1/4 mile.

    Depending on which version of stock u got, it would do 5.3sec to 100 in the slowest version. Mine did 4.7-4.8 to 100 and a RS light weight could do 4.2-4.3 sec.

    6:09 the DCT in both the Ralliart and Evo is very temperamental when going after higher power, unless of course you get stage 2 or stage 3 clutch packs installed. I would trust the manual transmission in the Evo over the DCT any day of the week.

      ehh the SST has been proven at 900+whp. The main thing bad about it is cost. Both clutches are equally rated from the factory, but the SST clutch upgrade costs a little more than twice as much as the 5 speed. There are also plenty of SST's putting 500whp down on a stock trans, it is all about torque management and a good tuner. This Evo is only making 500bhp so like 375whp.

I have a 2006 evo9 purchased new about 15 years ago still on the original drive train, the only upgrade I made was a new clutch because the oem one started slipping at 89k miles after 8 years and 400+whp. Still on the same aftermarket clutch I installed about 7 years ago and now making 630+whp still on the stock tranny and T-case no issues. Motor is still stock except for cams and head studs.

    Its not 6.2 sec to 100 its 4.7 on a stock evo, the SST gearbox has to be driven in manual mode to reduce wear and you want to replace the oil way more often than the manufacturer specification, i'd definitely go manual over SST if I could.

    The All-Wheel drive system called S-AWC Super All-Wheel Control of this Mitsubishi Lancer Evo is considered as the best. But even being the best it isn’t so good as the All-Wheel Drive indepedent propulsion of some EV like the Rivian R1T, wich use one single motor per wheel, giving the maximum control and capacity traction on every terrain, no need to have TCS or differentials

    The engine is the reason it's kinda slept on. No one trusts the engine switch between IX to X. And.... The Raliart only came in Automatic. Was a dealbreaker for some people. I rate the GSR is the manual model, it would be a beast with a upgraded trans and a 2.2 stroker kit on the 4B11T... Big turbo is you like to drive a time bomb. But the sounds are cool.

    Love the MR's, I own a 14, it's bad ass. Contrary to popular stupid comments, the TC-SST is something special and can handle just as much power as the shitty 5 speed with a new clutch pack, valve body and 2-4 shift fork upgrade. That thing is missing the Cusco front strut bar big time though, kills what little body roll to stock has.

    • @jjm3762
      @jjm3762 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have a MR as well. I had a GSR and moved into a MR. sadly the mr is treated like shit in the evo community , simply because they don’t have a clue with this trans does. Also the transmission is a son of a bitch to maintain. Diaqueen sst oil only and s-sport driving only to reduce clutch ware

    • @stephen9944
      @stephen9944 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jjm3762 yeah man but I learned quick how to do my own changes and have a local source for bulk Diaqueen. Full rebuild with a 12 disc pack is 5400 bucks which isnt much more than a manual rebuild. It's just so much fun on the track.

  • @willthacker5182
    @willthacker5182 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 5spd in the EVO X is stronger than the SST imo. I put a exedy 3 puck single disc and lightened flywheel and never had a problem. The clutch master is garbage, but they make evo IX conversion kits. I ended up having my trans built, just for the ppg 3.18 final (extending each gear by about 10%), and the PPG 5th. Id say the weakness in the design of the 5spd, is the pull clutch, seeing as how the TOB can disconnect from the pressure plate during hard shifts. But, ACT makes the monoloc to prevent that, and several companies make a bolt on release fork stopper to prevent it from traveling to far forward and blowing out the TOB, 2- piece retainer ring and cage. i do know the evo 9 mr 6psd was def weaker than the 5spd gsr.
    Id like to know what makes the sst better and the 5spd shit?
