Don't underestimate the Safari and lactae hevea sole. I've done a lot of miles in mine. Admittedly in Florida, no rocks and mountains, but they're phenomenal as a minimalist hiking shoe.
I'm so glad you pointed out their sizing app! I ran into that a few days ago and couldn't understand why more businesses weren't using something like it. Brilliant innovation.
I have three pairs: single buffalo moccasin, PH Safari (canvas upper, buffalo lower) & most recent the Fishing oxford. The single vamp buffalo moccasin & PH Safari's are custom fitted back when they did that (you send in your foot tracing and key measurements) and it took over a year to receive them after ordering but they fit perfect. The "under new management" fishing oxford is beautiful but not custom fitted and they fit the worst despite using their fitting guide. I would rather wait over a year to get truly custom made (& fitted) boots than ordering off the shelf as they are now offering.
Hi Rose Anvil, at 17:52, you said 9E is better for you. but when you stand up, you said 9.5E is better. In the Mountain PH boots video, you said, 9E is better for you as well. Not sure if Moccasin sizing is consistent? I think I have a similar feet size to you ( I saw your Red wing 875 video), I am good fit at 9D redwing 877. Do you think 9E for Russell Moccasin is okay for me? btw, your said you are 10C to D in the 875 video haha. I think it really helps people to understand the sizing of Moccasin. Thank you.
I own three pairs of Russell boots, (backcountry, safari ph, sporting clay chukka) I am a 9.5 D on the brannock device, and I wear a 8.5 E on all three pairs. The provided sizing guide recommends 9D, but I find that Russell boots run narrow and long, hope this helps. I also noticed that a number of people order a pair of in stock boots and sent back to ensure proper fit before ordering premier builds.
Glad to see a Russell unboxing. These are on my radar. They are made 3 hours away from me. So, I will await your verdict on them and they are worth the price. Thanks again for all of your content you put out.
I have been curious about when the Rose Anvil team would get to the Russel moccasin boot. I expected it to be some October because *obvious*; but these, unlike all of the “mock”-toe boots are actual moc-boots. I’d love to see a good shop tour of the construction on these boots as well. Maybe that video already exists and I just need to put in the effort to search for it.
Love Russell! Be careful with sizing, however. I was sent a pair of the backcountry marked as an E width, but they were actually their D width. This has not been a problem with my other 2 pairs, but the customer service was difficult to get ahold of. I ended up paying shipping back. My other two pairs are my most comfortable boots, so readers should definitely consider a pair!
Yah really liking Russel but not working right now so it's on the long-term list. I have one of those Kershaws (because CA) and that thing is jumpy! Probably made the same face you did.
So I'm wondering on the pricing as of current date of my post......I see this video is from 3 months ago and the price for the Backcountry is $685, then you have another video from 1 month ago regarding a price of $765 for the same Backcountry (at least I think it's the same model, perhaps I'm missing something). The question, if they're indeed the same make/model, is how did the price jump that much between this video from 3 months ago and the most recent video 1 month ago??? Of course, I respect the process and the charge, I'm just looking to understand what the pricing is currently and why this fluctuation. Any info or clarification is greatly appreciated as I'd love to invest in a pair, but would like to understand the price point. Thanks! Love the channel and vids!
Pretty much the perfect designed overall boot in my opinion. Now if I only knew how to get a pair to fit my 9c foot like when they were made to your measurements. Although to be fair, mine took forever to get and didn’t fit. The second pair didn’t take as long but did fit perfect. Loved the boots but sadly got stolen soon after I got them in the middle of nowhere fishing! Go figure 🤦🏻♂️🤬
I have a Kershaw automatic that looks like the same size. Automatic knives with a blade of two inches or longer are illegal in California, where I live. Therefore, the blade on my Kershaw is 1.9 inches. 😊
If I've bought "custom" boots and they didn't fit? You mean like the ones YOU designed last year that should have been wider? These don't seem to have the arch support, though.
Reminds me, I still have to call back one company and haggle about partial refund and then other company that IS NOT MTO still hasn't shipped my order from three weeks ago already.
That’s what cutting it in half does. 😂 I get what your sayin and it would be cool as well but u can’t see everything u need to see abt how it’s made by cutting it in half.

They say they run large.
FWIW I've never worn Russell's before but I ordered a pair using their sizing tool and the boots fit perfectly.

Have had my pair of weathered oak backcountry as my first high quality boot for a few months now and I absolutely love them!
I've worn Russells for about twelve years now on my dad's recommendation. Best boots I've ever owned.
Talking of the Rose Anvil Builds channel. Haven't seen a new video there for a while and I miss them. 😔
When will there be new videos?
i have a pair of Russell upland bird shooters purchased in 1971. They are beatup but still functional. Vibram soles. Burn marks, blood stains (mine).

If you want another of those knives it is called a Kershaw Leek. Great knife with a partial assist opener.

My SAS side gores are supposedly true moccasins and they're supremely comfortable.
That scale material is called Ultem. California legal automatic. Kershaw makes great autos for a reasonable price.

Wait, so how'd the sizing go? At $680, I want to make sure I get the sizing right
I found that exact model of Kershaw on the trail in green.
I just got pecos south 40 seconds. VERY soft under foot. Wore them to work rather than hiking. Not a work boot. Will save for the hikes.
Oh, and I went with my sneaker size. I couldn't size down. Not right for me.
My uppers close shut. I think they are just generous up the leg.
I believe Gokey makes a hiking Moccosin.
The ice plunge always makes me crack up! 😂
I have a pair of Backcountry's....and they are damn amazing!! I love them!!
Thanks! Glad to hear you are enjoying them!
Awesome!! I’d love to see these side by side with Gokeys
I really wish they hadn't discontinued their plantation birdshooter, those are my dream boots that I was saving up for but they got discontinued .

does russell do resoling?
They have a company-approved vendor that does resolving. It's on their website.
Would you do a video on some James Bond shoes, Church's - Diplomat & Chetwynd? That would be super cool.
Those Hanes socks arent bad by the way, wearing some myself today.

I got curious and checked the brand out. The brand got like 30% more expensive and they took out the custom option.
They also don't make good shit. Unless you're a TH-cam content creator, you'll get trash "quality".
@@phraktl So they went full filson. Bad quality at a higher price. Can you recommend a good moccasin brand? or even a maker that does mto?
The E width is definitely going to be too wide if you wear a C width in Alden Trubalance
Wow, price increase within a month of video release! Awesome info.
When cutting these in half, please talk about their ability to be rebuilt.
Knife-head terminology?
Weston once reminded us that “ALL words are made up.”
Gokey is another.
