This was the first sheath knife I bought when I joined the British Army in 1974, I still own it to this day. .nothing special about the sheath it 😂was all about the knife when I saw it in the store in Scotland. Bought many others over the decades but this one was special to me.💂♂️🪖⛑️🏴🇨🇦
With all the fancy equipment I would also manufacture a sheath like the one the knife came with from the factory. 10623a0941.clvaw-cdnwnd.com/2622cbc427eb9eba0cb238c3b362f64b/200389289-5748457486/whfirst_02.jpg
I bought a white hunter when I was about 13. I am 69 now. It has the walnut handle. It had a chip in the handle so the store manager gave me a 30% discount. I couldn't afford the original price of $50. But I saved up to get it for $35. It didn't have a sheath. I made a very basic one out of some cheap leather. Just a few years ago, I had a friend make me a better one. Coolest knife ever. I do wish mine had the antler handle.
I have never seen someone use a laser to transfer a design onto a piece of leather. Man, that was brilliant! Excellent restoration and creation...beautiful result!
Wow! I've had a Puma White Hunter since I was a kid, some 55 years ago! Your video has given me some good ideas on how to upgrade the sheath. The sheath is the original and is getting very brittle and quite dirty. I have used the knife in the field for a long time and the bone handle has a few chunks out of it. Thanks for the video!
Another cool project. I like how you made the bonded edge and folded the liner over the top concealing the stitch. Nice clean look. I’ll have to keep that technique in mind for a future Project. Thanks, I always learn so much watching your videos.
No kidding. I watched it, and even if I had all the tools and everything, I could not recreate what was done. A real master at work in this video. Thanks to TH-cam a person can learn how to do many, many things, but I am not doing this anytime soon. WOW!
Bought that WorkSharp blade sharpener a couple months ago and like it a lot, I'm getting too old to haul out all the stones, sink block and everything. It does a decent edge in various angles and is very easy to use, I especially like the magnetic connections.
Excelente trabajo de restauracion en el cuchillo y un trabajo perfecto con la funda...el "Puma White Hunter" fuè el primer cuchillo del cual me enamorè....felicitaciones y gracias.
I think those markings on the blade were done with a Laser originally. Since you have a Laser you might want to look into how to do them for future projects. I've seen some of the knife sharpening / restoration channels on TH-cam doing it.
Always a pleasure. Do you think the Resolene when airbrushing? What do you use to clean the airbrush after use? I only use mine for dye work and clean with alcohol. Would like to try some of the top coats with it. Why did you use it this time instead of a wipe on method?
I also use Resolene through an airbrush. In fact I have a dedicated airbrush and bottle for the process. Resolene is a water based product. Dilute the Resolene 50/50 with water and adjust the airbrush pressure to produce a fine even mist. Apply two or more coats as desired, allow to dry between coats. Five to ten minutes should do. Clean with an 80/20 ratio of denatured alcohol with water. You may want to breakdown the airbrush and give it through cleaning as you feel necessary. Hope this helps.😎
Excellent video and leatherwork as usual. Those pin/holders that you used in the stitch holes to keep the work aligned seemed very helpful. Do you have a link to them or mind sharing where you got them?.
Those are WUTA's positioning needles. You can buy them direct from their website or from Amazon. wutaleather.com/products/leather-suture-positioning-needle?_pos=1&_sid=0403c4af1&_ss=r&variant=40211687637125
I don't know if you do this for a job or hobby. But looks amazing. I was thinking of making a sheath for mine but looks like ill need about 20 years of experience and quite a few tools.
Another great design. Nice to get a peek at your pencil design process. What is the tool you're using to grab the saddle stitch needle? It looks like the jaws are smooth. Thank you.
Question: at the 2:09 mark, you are using a u-shaped frame to hold Emory cloth, and shoe-shine style polish out the bolster. Do you know what the tool is called, or possible where to get one? That looks like a handy little tool for maneuvering around small oddly shaped parts. Beautiful work, as always.
Very nice work , is that diamond stamp from Barry king ? Like that one a lot! Always enjoy watching your videos for some insights and how you go about making yours thanks for sharing your skills, reddoc custom leathers Chicago.
If you can cut through a cigarette paper with no drag, then it's sharp. Keep on polishing the edge, and you'll get there. Nice job on the sheath and restoration, though.
Thanks! As you can see in the beginning, the blade was pretty beat up. I have no idea what someone in the past was hacking at (I'm guessing it was made in the 1950s by the markings). It was butter-knife dull. I was trying not to completely re-profile the edge by taking off too much.
Thanks! It's a technique I learned a long time ago. The soap helps lubricate the leather fibers. This makes for better stamp impressions. It also helps a swivel knife glide through the leather better (though I didn't use one in this video). It also slows the drying process some so you don't have to rewet as often.
Another amazing job! I also have the D1 (a 10 watt version). What is yours? I’ve wondered if a laser power upgrade would be worth the money for leatherwork.
@@RoadAgentLeather I figured it did a bit, but didn't know how deep it goes. I've done some experimenting with a torch and seeing if I could get an edge to slick better, and it's a very fine line. But I also have used the same technique to create a harder surface on the edge of an axe pouch (logging style). I don't think it really made a better product, but it's still holding up.

How? When it’s literally a custom sheath he designed…

Very cool! Man, they're a lot more expensive nowadays!

Thanks for subscribing! This is the 20-watt version. The 10-watt should do everything you need it to do; it just takes more passes / slower speeds.
Awesome job!
But why did make the beltloop so long?
Won't it dangle too low?
thanks! If you look carefully, there's a rivet dividing the belt loop into two parts. You can wear it low-slung, or move it up to ride higher.
Nice video 😋😋
Thank you 😋
I have one identical to that one, But mine says Carl Schlieper on the blade instead of Puma. But it's a great knife and holds an edge well... Cheers
thanks for watching!
where did you get the tiny table saw?
Отлично!! Просто супер. Вторая жизнь!!!
Can you find out what kind of foam is applied with a brush and why put the workpiece in a plastic bag?
It's glycerin saddle soap. I use it for casing the leather. This preps it for tooling.
Knife & sheath both turned out hella dope, @RoadAgentLeather!
Thanks for watching!
Very nice once again. What settings do you use on your Xtools for cutting the leather?
Check out my previous videos where I review the laser. I think I showed some screen shots of my settings.
Does using the laser cutter cause the edges to be a bit crispy?
Like on the very edge where it's charred? Perhaps. But that black soot typically gets sanded off.
