Got myself some Karrimor Haraka (a shoe not a boot) for trekking across moorland. It was VERY waterlogged but my feet stayed dry. They are synthetic and I bought them because of that, so there was little breaking in time compared to leather, as they were a last minute buy. Came up a bit small though unfortunately but a good shoe regardless.
Direct injected midsole units combined with outsoles ARE re-soleable by specialist re-sole companies. Most sneakers are also re-soleable by these same companies. In Europe there is a push towards sustainability and most boots are now able to be re-soled and not just by the manufacturer. You might have to post the boots to these companies as they're not on every street corner but they are out there and they are usually authorised by the manufacturers to work on their footwear.
Great review. I've been wearing Mountain 600s almost daily since 2019 and on my third pair. They are very comfortable, light on your foot, and basically feel like running shoes. I tend to think that most people prefer these type of boots to a more traditional all leather boot due to comfort and the lack of a break in period. Cons: The soles are thin enough that you can feel jagged rocks underfoot and the foam midsole does go flat after about two years of use. The leather has held up to use well and the soles have not delaminated. I would recommend them. They are not Mountain Lights or a PNW woods boot, but I think for most people that's okay and often even appreciated.
It sucks that resoles cost $100+ nowadays. Kinda defeats the whole "poor man's boot theory" when one resole cost as much as a brand new pair of mid range hiking boots from Columbia that will last years.
I'm so glad you did this review! These boots have been in my Huckberry cart since they came out. My biggest hesitation in buying these is the fact that there's no heel counter. My go-to Danner shoes were the south rim 600 (sadly discontinued) and the first point of failure has always been wearing through the heel lining. Keep up the great work, Weston!
I've had a pair of the Danner Mountain 600 Leaf GTX for over a year now and they have been very durable and are incredibly comfortable. They have been worn a bit sparingly though as I keep a pretty good rotation going.
I’m currently looking at this exact boot! I have the tab pulled up! EDIT the review exceeded expectations. I was planning to just wear these around town but now I feel confident taking them on the trail or to a 40hr long airsoft milsim event.
Everything seems to be going synthetic these days. Shame because most of it is plastic, and most of it degrades to microplastic crap in time, compared to leathers
Yes this marketing spin for eco or Vegan friendly is such a sham because it IS plastic which is more harmful to the environment both in the manufacturing process and the breaking down process. Yet we are still charged the price we would for full leather in the past. I hate it. I really do. Start using roadkill leather or mushroom leather, and I’d be far more interested, and it genuinely would be more planet friendly.
Got a pair of Danner explorers and Canadian's i use for hunting. They’re great. Pre-2005; they’re on their 2nd soles. Their new products have been pretty lacklustre.
I had a pair of Raichle hiking boots in the early '90s, they were an excellent all leather boot that lasted me years. I also had a few pairs of the legendary ski boots model they came out in the mid 80s, a very responsive and flexible boot. IIRC they also made boots for the Swiss Army.
I wore out some danner military boots the ones with the greenish toe cover, they were my best boot to date. they were hand downs and I can't afford to by danner.😎🤣🤣
I only resole my work boots once and will never waist my money again. , after resolving it like 2 month later leather failed. it's just better to get new pair , you get new insoles, fresh leather that's still have some waterproofing , !
I’ve got a pair of logger 917 gtxs. I’d love to see them cut in half. I feel like my charcoal pair is very heavily pigmented because how much areas have faded
Off topic question but I wanna ask. I’m a bigger guy. I’m 6’5” and I work a hot and miserable job. I’ve tried belts from all the local stores. They last maybe 4 months before they are no longer usable. Walmart belts have even had the metal buckles break in the thick part of the metal. I’m not 300 pounds but my goodness it seems nobody can make a belt anymore. So… your belts. Have you had any negative feedback from bigger/taller guys that work in extreme environments? Wet/cold/very hot/dusty places. I go from one extreme to the other on a daily basis. I’m talking 20F outside right into a room with molten lava and the room temp is anywhere from 160F to 170F. I get wet too. So… do you think an all leather belt would be the best choice? None of my coworkers wear belts so I can’t get their input. I wear belts because yeah it helps keep the pants on but I also have a few belt mounted accessories that I edc. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I would just buy and find out but… I’m pretty poor atm. I just want to make the best decision possible before dropping the money. Oh and thanks for another fantastic shoe video. I enjoy every one of them. 🙏
To be honest, everybody else is going to tell you leather is better but the best strongest best bang for buck belt is a military nylon gun belt. There is a reason the seatbelt in your car is made of nylon and not leather.
Nothing wrong with a leather belt but I personally love my Men's AKHG Bailout Belt from Duluth. So far it's lasted five years of heavy use and still going strong. Biggest thing I love is the heavy duty hardware and easy adjustments for when I want a looser fit or super tight.
Check of Aker Leather, American made in Chula Vista, CA. I have two belts, black and brown, Model B21. Leather reenforced with polymer, 1 1/2" wide. Both are 20+ years old, daily wear.
I am once again begging my leather overlord, His lordship the honourable Sir Rose Anvil, to kindly review some euro lace to toe boots and see how they compare to danner. brands include fracap, hanwag doublestitch, meindl superperfect and paraboot. thank you kindly for hearing my pleas m'lord
I tried so many of these boots all kinda junk. Only Kenetrek boots did the trick also can be resoled. 3.8 leather 7mm midsole. I have 2 6inch 1 ten inch. There price went up but wow they are great boots!
Good to see modern materials and construction techniques used in these boots. For actual hiking modern boots are lighter, more water resistant and more comfortable. They might not last as long but this obsession with making the most durable boot possible at the expense of everything else is just stupid.
Modern all leather hiking boots are not durable at the expense of anything except weight and the money they cost to buy. They are usually very water resistant, or waterproof if GoreTex lined and are as or more comfortable than modern hybrid boots. There isn nothing more comfortable than a well fitting leather boot with a leather liner, and most break in very quickly these days except for the rare few traditional stitchdown and usually hand welted very thick leather hikers.
This Huckberry X Danner version is probably fashion orientated with, the rough suede, the color palette, and especially the rubber wrapped (by Huckberry not danner). The rubber is some kind of trend elements similar to the Nike Vomero Roam echoing those regular hiking boots with no goodyear or Norwegian welt in the 90s.
The Mountain Boot is not iconic, just unspoilt by progress. From the 50's through the 70s every hiking boot company had something similar - Merrell, Lowa, Asolo, everybody. I have not seen Rose Anvil dig in to the true icons - Limmer.
I'll only buy leather boots Made in the USA. Wore Danner Acadias for work every day for 20+ years, had Danner rebuild them once. Those boots saw some crazy sh*t. And my Crater Rims, awesome. No way anybody can talk me into any of the new light weight high tech boots. No way.
@@whatthe6532 Not a good analogy, there are trade-offs with light weight modern boots, they are not just a straightforward improvement in technology as mobile phones are. I wore all leather boots for years, originally Vasque, then Scarpa, then hybrid and lightweight modern boots and shoes, before going full circle back to almost only all leather boots and shoes. The lightweight stuff just doesn't hold up anywhere near as long as all leather boots, and are far more prone to failure at various points.

I wish you were way more critical and aware of how bad synthetic polymers truly are; for our health and all of earth. Synthetic polymers should be illegal.

Would be cool to cut the Lille Bjorn boots in half, give us an idea of what an A-grade mountain boot is like compared to all these Danners.

Do a classic mountain boot series. Danner v fracap v Diemme etc. Pretty please!

That's alright. Our children will pay for our sins. But hey, 💰 is more important.
Exactly. This is not a good move.

Would love to see some Paraboot hiking boots being cut and compared to the Danner mountain boots 👌
I would LOVE to see MagSafe added to the Rose Anvil Wallets !
Dont forget the German brands Meindl and Hanwag.. .

I miss the mountain boots of the 70's by companies like Raichle. Built like a tank.

It’s too bad about Danner. That Norwegian mountain boot you recently did is the way to go.
What Norwegian boot? I must have skipped that video
200USD vs 605USD really?
@@lainbed just hit me that it’s on Rose Anvil 2

I know it's not in keeping with the theme of this channel but why not try a nylon webbing belt?

kudos to danner! but, they are fugly. thanks for the bisection.

Thanks for da video.
Call these slippery, thin-sole city shoes anything you want, except hiking boots.
That boot is UAF… 😂
Good to know that I should still stay away from Danner.
I find these Danner boots to be kind of ugly. They look weird with the lace loops so far down on the toe.

goretex doesn't last. goretex only lasts a year then you have to replace that shit. no thanks.
My wallet would hate a Danner collab 😅
Whi cares if it gets scratched. I would rather not have suade which collects dirt in all that fuzzy leather
If I’m gonna buy a Danner mountain boot, it’s not gonna be half plastic or rubber, That’s a hard no to this ugly design.
