- Nothing can stop it. I simply took some motivation from real life and used it to eradicate humanity, twice. This really shouldn't have worked but somehow it just did. There's some fun potential here.

Yeah but it isn't a good idea if the cure is at around 85% and rising rapidly since genetic reshuffle only helps temporarily, not permanently

Insomnia is actually a "safe" symptom when it comes to severity scaring them into cure work. It also makes them less productive so even if they do start workin on the cure they work on it slower

I don't know. I haven't played the game in years, but from what I remember, you can't have 'Any' Symptom at all to fly under the radar as long as possible. And even then, the game might just fuck you over with no symptoms and have them discover it, for no reason, half way through infecting the world. The game isn't based on realism, nor simulating what the infected actually do with those symptoms. They just modify infections and lethal numbers only.
@@Jirodyne Yes it can result in them catching on, but it is the one of the six first mutations that is the least noticeable symptom. Many times when on a virus run ive mutated insomnia and gone for over a year after that without them catchin on
the whole Insomnia to Coma line and Seizures+Insanity also gives A TON of severity too, which means a lot of extra points for you, while most of that (Insomnia, Paranoia, Seizures, and Insanity) ALL makes your disease harder to cure.
Starting with the Coughing+Rashes (Sneezing, Sweating, Fever, Immune Supression) side of symptoms and then next going down the Insomnia line is a VERY good opener for pretty much any disease. Gives A LOT of infectivity, severity, and lethality, which all means a lot more points for you in the future, all for pretty cheap, especially with Sympto-Stasis, while giving you multiple routes to Organ Failure and Coma.

I’m wondering how DF is gonna handle Mega Brutal, if he does at all, or cure mode
some simple notes because the game NEVER actually explains any of this to you:
1. more severity = they discover you faster and dedicate more resources to curing you, but you gain more DNA points faster.
2. insomnia, paranoia, seizures, and insanity all make your disease harder to cure like Coma does.
3. it kind of suggests this on pneumonia, but pneumonia increases cold resistance.
4. you always have a small chance to spread by plane or boat unless specified otherwise in any vanilla disease or challenge, water and air transmissions increase your chances up to basically guaranteed by the max level.
5. you gain points for lethality, much in the same way as severity (faster discovery, more resources to cure, but more points).
6. when you unlock bird transmission, you have a very small random chance to miraculously spread to a random country, without any border crossing and without going on a boat or plane. this effect will only spread you to a country you do not have infected, so this can help you get into greenland or new zealand. its not something to *rely* on happening, but its something to help stack the odds in your favor.
-7. drug resistances are explicit levels. if your level of drug resistance does not meet the level of medical quality of a country, you have a hard reduction in infectivity and lethality in that country. this is a hidden independent stat for a country, but countries with the wealthy trait ($ symbol) usually have max medical quality (such as the U.S and Canada).-
EDIT: i go over a comment of more accurate findings about how drug resistance works
8. this is very hard to take advantage of in a plague that does not have the ability to specifically target a country (plagues that do: neurax worm, necroa virus, shadow plague, simean flu) but each country has a specific total amount of resources they will invest into cure research, indicated by the flasks in that country's stats page. the flasks start out empty and fill up based on their awareness of you and your severity, and how quickly they fill up varies from country to country. the more of these flasks that are full for each country, the faster they develop a cure. the more of each country you damage (via infectivity and lethality) the more these flasks "break" capping their total amount of resources they can invest into the cure.

Holy shit this is great! I never knew about the flasks of cure investments. But you mentioned specific diseases or plagues are those just specific combos like the walking dead?
@@hellogeneralkenobi3292 plagues like Necroa and Shadow have something you can specifically control to move to a specific country, so its very very easy for them to take advantage of that research mechanic (and indeed, on Mega Brutal Shadow Plague in particular is balanced completely around this). although it's definitely the hardest to do with Neurax.

Total organ failure is the unholy grail of symptoms. Wait until the entire globe is infected, though.
@@lairdcummings9092 I do enjoy total organ failure, but I normally go for skin lesions, devolve sweating and rash, and wait it out. Once there’s a good amount of people infected, I turn on necrosis, into Hemorrhagic Shock, which wipes everyone off the face of the earth
@@drewdyman1014 haemorrhagic shock is my second goal, because it *really* drives the nails into the coffin. It's just that organ failure is cheaper to get, so goes to the top of the list.
@@lairdcummings9092 ah, but you see, with necrosis, you obtain lethality, infectivity, and the ability to spread from corpses, followed up with the severely lethal hemorrhagic shock, keeps infecting, and causes death very fast. and then for the cherry on top I add organ failure

Considering that we only saw one attempt on Brutal difficulty, the fact that DF was able to win first try is kinda scary.
Na I have a theory that he’s from a different Solar system and he just caused diseases and shit and he committed war crimes and that’s why he’s able to do all these things or being calm keeping a straight face not celebrating stuff like that

So there are combos you can do in the game. Insomnia and Anemia make the walking dead combo which slows research progress. There is also the whoops combo that is Sneezing and Dhiarrea. Which is hillarious as long as it doesnt happen to you. Also be wary that certain disease types require points to devolve instead of giving them back if i remember correctly.

Hemophilia + skin lesions is pretty great. Combine that with respiratory breakdown and blood + air transmission and you have a nightmare.
@@Gabronthe Not quite, the diseases that have high mutation boosts(like Virus) charge you to take effects back, but how you got the trait doesn't actually matter

The trick is to get all the infections to there 2nd level. They then reveal a third combination upgrade. Don't forget that you can just devolve all of your infectiveness to get a good amount of points back.
Also, the later diseases have different pros and cons as that make you change up your strategy.

Once everyone is infected you can deevolve some of the transmission stuff to get more points to add lethal symptoms !

This game was and still is and absolute blast to play, although I feel like a plague named TikTok would of made alot more sense with the zombie and/or monke virus in the more updated version of the game. In this game, nothing’s deadlier than a sleeper cell. Watching what happens when you purchase all the lethal upgrades late game is satisfying.
On Brutal Mode, it’s the strategy I go for more often than not.
I played a fair bit of Pandemic 2 back in the day. Glad to see that Madagascar only has a single port and no other ways to enter the country. As is tradition.

@juliamclauchlan7611 I think it has to do with an agricultural reform that was about breaking villages apart in order to effectivise Swedish agriculture. Rather than living in a village, the farmers should all be living on their own piece of land with their families.

china has less population and isn’t wet, India is a lot better because you can get water transmission and India also has more population (1,457,015,015 people) as opposed to china’s 1.3 billion. Even better is Saudi Arabia, arid and has the most active airport (connects to every other country) in the game. It is the only non-rich country to have this ability. Also its seaports go into Madagascar, normally considered a tricky island
The reason why India has more people is because it includes the population of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka
DF I would love to see you revisit Stardew Valley! There has been so much content added, albeit late-game, in 1.5 and would love to see you play the new update.
Once everyone is infected, you can usually gain points by devolving the traits you don’t need anymore (like the animal, air, water transmission etc)
Only works on casual difficulty. On any other difficulty it costs points to devolve

Lol DF has the same strategy as I did when I used to play it a lot back in just Plague Inc. Though the premise is very nice, it needs a bit of realism, especially when we literally have a real life example of a plague now.
So now we know who is responsible for the spread of TikTok...

I was just reading the news at the top, it was just the most random things ever, barely anything about the bacteria until it actually infects the whole world.

Coma, Paralysis, insomnia, hysteria, seizures, and insanity symptoms all make your disease harder to cure, setting back the % with the more serious ones, and slowing it's progression.
7:00 coughing and sneezing is one of the most efficient ways to spread disease, and the least noticeable till lots of people start doing it constantly.
The easiest places to spread from are UK, China, America, due to their large import/export of humans, the less the humans care about cleaning or preventing the viruses/bacteria spread the further it goes.
If you're on Normal then its a 50/50 safty rating with the humans.
a little tip, once everyone is infected, you can unmutate all infections so that way you can get more lethal things. also someone correct me if im wrong, but some lethal things can slow down the cure rate

The insanity/coma branch will set back the cure. So if you’re just going to do genetic reshuffle those aren’t bad branches to do instead
