Insomnia is actually a "safe" symptom when it comes to severity scaring them into cure work. It also makes them less productive so even if they do start workin on the cure they work on it slower
I don't know. I haven't played the game in years, but from what I remember, you can't have 'Any' Symptom at all to fly under the radar as long as possible. And even then, the game might just fuck you over with no symptoms and have them discover it, for no reason, half way through infecting the world. The game isn't based on realism, nor simulating what the infected actually do with those symptoms. They just modify infections and lethal numbers only.

Starting with the Coughing+Rashes (Sneezing, Sweating, Fever, Immune Supression) side of symptoms and then next going down the Insomnia line is a VERY good opener for pretty much any disease. Gives A LOT of infectivity, severity, and lethality, which all means a lot more points for you in the future, all for pretty cheap, especially with Sympto-Stasis, while giving you multiple routes to Organ Failure and Coma.
some simple notes because the game NEVER actually explains any of this to you: 1. more severity = they discover you faster and dedicate more resources to curing you, but you gain more DNA points faster. 2. insomnia, paranoia, seizures, and insanity all make your disease harder to cure like Coma does. 3. it kind of suggests this on pneumonia, but pneumonia increases cold resistance. 4. you always have a small chance to spread by plane or boat unless specified otherwise in any vanilla disease or challenge, water and air transmissions increase your chances up to basically guaranteed by the max level. 5. you gain points for lethality, much in the same way as severity (faster discovery, more resources to cure, but more points). 6. when you unlock bird transmission, you have a very small random chance to miraculously spread to a random country, without any border crossing and without going on a boat or plane. this effect will only spread you to a country you do not have infected, so this can help you get into greenland or new zealand. its not something to *rely* on happening, but its something to help stack the odds in your favor. -7. drug resistances are explicit levels. if your level of drug resistance does not meet the level of medical quality of a country, you have a hard reduction in infectivity and lethality in that country. this is a hidden independent stat for a country, but countries with the wealthy trait ($ symbol) usually have max medical quality (such as the U.S and Canada).- EDIT: i go over a comment of more accurate findings about how drug resistance works 8. this is very hard to take advantage of in a plague that does not have the ability to specifically target a country (plagues that do: neurax worm, necroa virus, shadow plague, simean flu) but each country has a specific total amount of resources they will invest into cure research, indicated by the flasks in that country's stats page. the flasks start out empty and fill up based on their awareness of you and your severity, and how quickly they fill up varies from country to country. the more of these flasks that are full for each country, the faster they develop a cure. the more of each country you damage (via infectivity and lethality) the more these flasks "break" capping their total amount of resources they can invest into the cure. hope this info is helpful :D

So there are combos you can do in the game. Insomnia and Anemia make the walking dead combo which slows research progress. There is also the whoops combo that is Sneezing and Dhiarrea. Which is hillarious as long as it doesnt happen to you. Also be wary that certain disease types require points to devolve instead of giving them back if i remember correctly.

The trick is to get all the infections to there 2nd level. They then reveal a third combination upgrade. Don't forget that you can just devolve all of your infectiveness to get a good amount of points back. Also, the later diseases have different pros and cons as that make you change up your strategy.

In this game, nothing’s deadlier than a sleeper cell. Watching what happens when you purchase all the lethal upgrades late game is satisfying. On Brutal Mode, it’s the strategy I go for more often than not.

The easiest places to spread from are UK, China, America, due to their large import/export of humans, the less the humans care about cleaning or preventing the viruses/bacteria spread the further it goes. If you're on Normal then its a 50/50 safty rating with the humans.

Even better is Saudi Arabia, arid and has the most active airport (connects to every other country) in the game. It is the only non-rich country to have this ability. Also its seaports go into Madagascar, normally considered a tricky island

Good job, DF. But I've spent over 1000 hours in Pandemic and the objectively hardest level is Fungal on the highest difficulty. You HAVE TO play a specific way or you can't win.
I got a tik tok add on this video... I came here to mention you should devolve any transmission mutations when the whole world is infected. It can give you extra points that can really save your ass in the future when fighting the cure.
a little tip, once everyone is infected, you can unmutate all infections so that way you can get more lethal things. also someone correct me if im wrong, but some lethal things can slow down the cure rate

Good job, DF. But I've spent over 1000 hours in Pandemic and the objectively hardest level is Fungal on the highest difficulty. You HAVE TO play a specific way or you can't win.
I got a tik tok add on this video... I came here to mention you should devolve any transmission mutations when the whole world is infected. It can give you extra points that can really save your ass in the future when fighting the cure.
a little tip, once everyone is infected, you can unmutate all infections so that way you can get more lethal things. also someone correct me if im wrong, but some lethal things can slow down the cure rate
