Here’s the trick to catch the Magnalav: You were doing everything right, except first you need to unequip your rod’s sinker upgrade. This means once you cast way out and the bait reaches right below you against the land, it will stop moving. Then just patiently wait for him to bite. Good luck 👍
Another method is the magnalav is scared of movement but if you move slow enough it will follow your boat to shore sell your boat and cast down the magnalav will stay there while u try and catch it

Going toward the shore is the opposite of what you should do. The fish gets scaed by 3 things. The boat moving, line jerking, and other fish. Go to the open water where no other fish are, cast your line straight down, without moving your boat or jerking the line, and you should get him no problem. You'll have to adjust the rod set up, but it should be an easy catch.

(And yes Josie was required to beat the game, as it would literally swim you to the ending. You used to be able to swim yourself or grab the dragon, but those were patched put.) See under the cut for Shaku stuff. Literally pulled from the wiki. Shaku Location: go to the sell hut in the Dragon's Territory, and look at the two mountains in the backdrop. Line up your cat with the peak of the second mountain. Shaku Catch: The Shaku requires Large Bait and a Mega Hook to catch, and a Lightbulb to see in the dark. The Shaku is unique in that it requires the player to have unlocked Swimming in order to catch it. Cast your line, then swim down alongside the bait. When you reach the Shaku, hover your bait just above its head and grab its face. The Shaku will start blinking, and then will lunge to grab your bait. It can only be caught while blinking. Using this method, Radar is disabled. It is helpful to catch the Dragon first to avoid it interfering.
It’s cool how the blooper fish is this game can only be caught when your lure is moving down just like how the bloops in Mario games only move down to attack you that’s a neat reference
