    I sold my open box Samsung 49” 3840x1080p @ 144hz for $400 and bought another open box one but 5120x1440 @ 240hz for a total of $273 more out of pocket. It’s not oled but loving the extra sharpness of 1440p and the 240hz.

    Just got mine. Got it from Best Buy for $1349. Best picture quality on a monitor I have ever seen. Wish the pbp feature was 240hz. I also noticed there’s some graininess to the monitors in certain scenes.

    It's simply too small vertically in terms of resolution and vertical real estate, 21:9 ultrawides at 38" and above are 1600p at least like the AW3821DW and LG38- from 2020, those were perfect productivity panels. If you ever try a 38" 3840x1600p 21:9 UWD, you won't be able to go back to a traditional 3440x1440p 34" (I pre-ordered the AW34 QD-OLED on the day it was announced), let alone over 49". It seems we're not getting W/QD-OLED Ultrawides with decent enough vertical resolution so the next best thing is a 42" 4k120-240hz 16:9 OLED (doesn't feel the same though).

      Sounds like the dream! I just need a fat oled and more vertical pixels for sure.

  • @inconvenientfacts58

    You should include a comparison with the LG 45" OLED UltraGear. You did a 2-part review for that monitor which you praised, which makes it surprising that you did this review without any mention of the LG at all. A 45" to a 49" is not a big leap in size, which means there are other attributes that need to be compared. Otherwise the video will sound like any other video that is selling a monitor rather than reviewing a monitor.

    • @MinimalisTech
      @MinimalisTech  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yo! fair point. The reason I don’t mention the LG is because it’s not actually a super ultra wide but rather a very big ultrawide. They don’t share anything outside of size and that they’re oled.
      My preference actually goes to LG 45” Prolly could’ve mentioned that!
      Cheers

    • @inconvenientfacts58
      @inconvenientfacts58 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the reply. They are both curved OLED ultrawides competing for the same users I think. The LG has the benefit of the different dimensions and 800R curve while the OLEG G9 maintains the size of size of the Neo G9 albeit in glossy OLED and taking a step backwards with only an 1800R curve. I still cannot decide between the two. If you still have the LG 45", you could even compare the two side by side as no other channel has done so. But then I understand that would be too much hassle. @@MinimalisTech

    Absolute legend mate. Been waiting for this one! If you could choose, oled g9 and split it into 2 using pbp (ps5 and pc) or 2x LG 27" oleds (ps5 and the other for pc). Leaning towards the 2x LG 27" but the oled g9 looks stunning if I ever want to play an ultrawide game on pc. Thanks bro!

    • @MinimalisTech
      @MinimalisTech  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yo! I'd go dual LG OLEDs. I'm not a fan of that HUB and it'd be easier for me to use laptops docked to two 27s than a single 49"
      Either way OLED is a win, but my vote would be LG's,

    • @devantetoppin7879
      @devantetoppin7879 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Most OLEDS these days have burn in mitigation techniques. Like pixel shifting / orbiting. Or if it detects a static image for too long it may dim the screen. They also tend to run pixel refreshers at various intervals which makes it really hard to get burn in these days but not impossible. It's one of those things that you have to keep in the back of your mind but honestly OLEDs look so damn good it's worth the trade off imo. You can easily get many years of use without any issues as long as you practice a little common sense with it. If you do plan to use it for productivity / work I would be sure to auto hide the task bar on my computer. As well as have a rotation of backgrounds for the desk top not just a static one. If you aren't actively using it? put the computer to sleep or at least have a screen saver with a short kick in time. Otherwise you should be able to use it pretty normally even for work related stuff unless your job literally requires you to keep the same static thing on screen for like 20 hours at a time.

    great video man, I too, purchased this same monitor and it is still sitting in the box while I m waiting for my Dell WD22TB4 docking station to arrive.
    And also, I have MacBook pro 16 m2pro for my work and a 4070 powered laptop that I will be connecting to this monitor, now I have the same problem as you now, the monitor wont take video signals from the USB-C port (what a stupid move from Samsung), so I will be connecting the MBP to the dell dock, and from the dell dock, I will use the HDMI and mHDMI port so that I can mimic 2x27 (the purpose of this, is so that when I have multiple virtual desktop open side by side in PBP mode, I would like to be able to swipe the left side of the screen independently), and as for the 4070 powered laptop, I would use caldigit ts3+ to dp1.4 to get the max refresh rate I could get. Hey bro, this review helped out so much especially since I was searching everywhere to see if this monitor supported ALLM and VRR since when I get this I’ll be using it for ps5, I’m also really disappointed that with a screen this size it doesn’t support type c hdmi with power delivery as I do use a MacBook for productivity as well, but if I do get a hdmi 2.1 to USB c cord can I run 240hz? And can I also put the screen in Picture by picture so half the screen shows my Mac in 16:9 and the other screen shows my ps5, that would be awesome if it did. Please respond bro these are som really important questions deciding if I will buy this monitor or not, thanks so much bro!

    Yeah I got the G93SC, the non-smart one, as I read how the G95SC forces you to go to the hub menu every time. That would drive me insane. Don't really need all that app stuff as I have a smart TV for that, KODI etc. What I will say is only having one HDMI port is ridiculous at this price point. How stingy Samsung! Two minimum should be standard! I know I can use a USB-C - HDMI adapter but I shouldn't have to after spending this much cash. I'll be forced to running my mini PC through the G9 though and in the future the Switch 2 as well. I'd rather not manually switch out the cable wear the ports out 😅 Secondly, no dedicated button to go into sleep mode kind of sucks too. We have to fiddle about with the clunky menu button to enter power options when needed. For downloading games and torrents this is very important to prevent burn in.

      @@notmoroku Actually, a poll on Reddit prefers the G9 OLED but I am still undecided. The OLED G9 has the better res, ppi and glossy screen which really showcases the OLED. However that lower vertical space and 1800R curve are downsides.

      I had the original odyssey G9 and went from that the the 45" LG, the sheer size of the LG and pure blacks far make up for the loss of horizontal sight, considering on all 3d games at 32:9 the edges of the screen are stretched regardless of what fov you go with. Don't have that problem on 21:9

      Issue with the G8 is that it's almost the same price here (dubai) and it's using older tech (qd-oled v1) which had half the burn in protection as compared to qd-oled v2 which the 49" uses (according to samsung)

    I keep hearing that it's not for console, and while it's use case may be for better performance than consoles currently provide, you can still get the full potential of what console has to offer on this monitor, until you upgrade to a more expensive higher performance gaming rig. That's why I bought it. I want a gaming PC but can't afford one at the specs I desire, so I bought this monitor so I don't have to worry when I upgrade.

    To me it's not worth it, not until they make it to use the whole screen watching movies. It's just not worth it. To me the immersivness is insane , but I can barely keep 240hz with a 3090 , not to mention that double display is still frustrating to manage. I hope another company can actually make the whole display usable watching movies and able to keep 240hz . If they fix that , it would be the best monitor.

    • @devantetoppin7879
      @devantetoppin7879 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not on the monitor that you can't watch the movies full screen on this. It's the aspect ratio. Movies and TV are generally 16:9 while this screen is 32:9 so there's no way to resize the image in a way that's not going to look stretched. The only way to fix that is literally to get a different size screen. Samsung is actually coming out with a 57in monitor that solves that problem while still being a ultra super wide but the resolution of it is pretty close to 8k so good luck driving games at that resolution.

    • @johngonzo9671
      @johngonzo9671 ปีที่แล้ว

      @devantetoppin7879 Thanks for the heads up about the new monitor. Now to me, that's worth 1500- 2000. Because I can game and watch movies . Because why pay that much just to game when you won't be getting 240hz? I got the latest specs and couldn't get that much not to mention those popping noises. Anyways, i been sold that monitor with no regrets. Would be nice to see Sony get in the monitor game. I dont think Samsung should be making monitors. I rather LG , Alien, Asus or Sony. Every Samsung monitor I had, had some kind of issues. The one you mentioned I'll see what that's about when it comes out 👏🤝
