5:07 remember to download and use Windows HDR Calibration, Windows itself doesn't matter if you're using HDR... it's mostly for video and games. I also set my SDR content balance to 0 when playing HDR in games, because it seems way brighter when doing so and HDR pops more on this monitor. Having it half way is a decent compromise, but if you're not playing HDR content, turn it off until you are.
I hate it when creators stitch their thoughts together like this in post. I realise you might be trying to cut out "empty space" but the cuts are jarring.
I got this monitor last week. I have a similar PC setup as you. I was having all the same issues as you. I was able to fix the flashing white boxes and black screens with a high speed DisplayPort cable.... My 2 main compaints are, if any TV or monitor I've ever owned (I'm in my late 40's, so, it's a lot), this one, BY FAR, has required the most tinkering with the settings. After a week, things still aren't great (but it's getting there).. Aparently, I have a stripped down version of the 49in G9 Odyssey (without the remote or "smart tv" features). The menu button on the back is pretty bad. I have to push it pretty hard for it to do anything, and the menus are pretty slow to respond... I watched a lot of review of this monitor, and this one is the most accurate one (at least in my experience) that I've seen.... Oh, and I'm also connecting it to a Macbook Pro (in addition to my PC), so I have to have a KVM switch. Getting it to look at all decent on the Mac was a chore.
Setup took 5 mins and I have an Iphone, would have been easier if I had a samsung. Not had any of these issues, I use a fibre optic HDMI cable on my pc and a usb c to display port from my mac. I just turned it to gaming mode and set hdr to advanced and everything has been amazing! A really fun game for 32:9 with all bells and whistles is Doom eternal. I'm using a 7900xtx (tuf). This monitor is breathtaking. I use auto hdr in windows, world of warcraft is incredible on this. Also the 0.03 ms response time is the 1st time I have felt like i'm on a crt for response time I had no idea it would be so noticable, just amazing. Oh and it's 10% less pixels than 4k so you can judge how well a game will run in 32:9.
Will definitely have to try Doom Eternal! And thanks for the 10% calculation, will make it much easier in the future to judge how well a game will run since many reviews don't show 32:9 tests
Like many other commenters have said, this is the best review I’ve seen on this monitor. 🎉 Video quality is crazy and you tackled the most important questions that other big reviewers skipped out on. Huge help to me as I’ve got this monitor on the way and will be coming back here to troubleshoot in the coming days. Thank you!!🔥
you can absolutely tell the difference between 144 and 240 hz. I have a Samsung g7 1440p monitor and I had to switch from 240 to 144 for streaming purposes and I definitely notice the difference. I'm not a monitor snob either where I notice a huge difference on the smallest details. but thank you for doing this review, it felt like a more real world example of what to expect with this monitor than other reviews i've seen about these types of monitors
One of the only honest reviews on these screens. Its funny that these monitors are mostly marketed as gaming monitors because it is especially in productivity that they are valuable: video editing, project management, product design etc. I´m certainly in the market to replace my current 21:9 IF my Thinkpad can drive it as a second screen, not sure how that will work.
I just bought the Oled G9 version of this monitor that doesn't come with the remote or hub for $1099 on Amazon. I love it, and now I brought my original Odyssey G9 to work and with it not being OLED, it's fantastic for productivity.
@@MrNewff a big issue with doing productivity work on OLED is the worry of static elements causing burn in, so for some people who work with static elements all day an OLED could have un-even wear much more easily than a non-OLED
I think the random black screens are due to power issues, or inconsistencies.. i just got an alienware qd oled ultrawide and it does it too, but it only does it when my AC unit experiences some power regulations or something, because they're perfectly in sync. The image returns fast and it also happened once when my AC unit was turned off. So try and look into that, see if you can plug the monitor into a free outlet and your pc into a different power outlet. Hope it helps.
it could be that tbh but Samsung are known to have awful QC so it also wouldn't be surprising if its just an issue with the monitor. I know of far to many people who have had to send back the G9, Neo G9 ( heck even the G7, 8 and their neo counter parts ) multiple times before either giving up or getting one that isn't a piece of trash. Its a huge reason I wont buy them at the very high end, they 1) don't offer anything over anyone else and 2) they have the worst QC possible.
Thanks a lot for this video. I have an OLED G8 myself and if I had seen a video that was this thorough and honestly showcases all the glitches and fitfalls that can happen, I would not have bought it for sure. I will try out my display with a HDMI cable soon, thanks for tip. I have similar issues with graphical glitches when sometimes when starting my PC or waking it up.
Hope the HDMI helps! Just to confirm that was causing the issue I ended up buying a new more expensive display port cable and the glitches were still happening so I can say for sure its the DP for me at least
I have a G8 and upon upgrading my gpu from a 3080 to a 4090 some glitches became less frequent while others were eliminated. I only deal with some screen glitches on wake up from sleep and nothing else. I believe it to be a power draw issue from the gpu and if the gpu isn’t enough you’ll see these weird issues. Which is 100% still the monitors fault
Honestly I had an opposite experience to you getting this monitor to work. For me I plugged it in and it just worked, the only game I had any issue with was CS2 and just using launch options to force the resolution fixed that for me. Loving this monitor for productivity and gaming it looks awesome and surprisingly alot of the games i play support it.
I run a 27+34+27 right now and the center 34 is 21:9 but without being able to do "surround gaming" due to mismatched monitors I am looking to upgrade. The Neo G9 49" and OLED are so hard to choose between. At the end of the day I do much more work than gaming/media consumption so lots of static things (burn in) and text (clarity) so even though I LOVE OLED and wish I could have those super dark perfect blacks, and I prefer a dim screen over a really bright one (my current monitor only 30% brightness) I decided to go with the 57" Neo so I can finally upgrade for 1440P to 4K, and I just hope that it looks good when doing stuff that cant support 32:9 I do not think I would have been really happy replacing 3 monitors with a single 1440 I would lose screen restate that I am used to using every day. I can barely fit the 3 monitors i have now so could not just upgrade the 34" to a 49", but replacing all 3 with a high res 57" that can work... I'll actually get some extra desk space and yet still have more pixels. A couple more generations when they change the pixel arrangement for text clarity and have some kind of pixel saver feature built in that works, then I will have to change to OLED.

Finally someone sharing an honest opinion! Yes this monitor is a pain to get it to work and thanks, didn’t even know about the HDMI 2.1 fix, will try that
After the multiple day setup process to tweak everything perfectly, this monitor kicks ass. Been loving it this initial week. I drive it with a 4080 so I crank everything up to the max and goddamn, there's no going back to traditional LCD. 😂 The only everlasting problem I've had so far is having to switch the aspect ratio from 32:9 > 16:9 > 32:9 for Wallpaper Engine to actually work, otherwise the desktop is pitch black. Something I hope to fix eventually but otherwise, pretty colors go 👁🍭
Glad you’re enjoying it! Haven’t had any issues myself with wallpaper engine (yet) so could be a hidden setting somewhere in there but I’ll keep an eye out for any fixes!

I used to have the flickering issue when I had multi monitor setup with two different resolutions (4KTV + 1440p Monitor, both 16:9), ended up making them exclusive rather than extend (but this solution doesn't work for all use cases since mine was either/or for the TV comfy gaming vs upright productivity). First two things I looked up before making a decision was (1) how to play split screen to preserve 16:9 for most games (answer: Power Toys > Fancy Zones with games in Borderless; this allows the black borders to be used as other apps instead) and (2) which games support 32:9 anyway (enough that I would play). With that in mind (my use case), I made the decision. So new buyers, make sure to ask the relevant questions for your research and if not, hope these two of mine helped raise those questions and answer them too. Wanted to share these since they were a couple of the main issues presented in this video. :) My use case though, was that I needed two monitors for work, but can only use one cable on my desk space the way I've got my studio set up. So my current setup is similar to what I describe above, but I replaced the 1440p monitor with the G9. :)
@@chettystudios good to hear! I don’t have access to a 109 ppi display and have watched SO many odyssey g9 reviews hoping someone would be in the same position as myself
@Chettystudios I have a question that I think you are well suited to answer. I am looking for a monitor to maximize my monitor real estate, but virtually all of the use would be for productivity. I oversee research and often need 4-6 windows open at once in order to be maximally efficient. Whereas I can say money is no object, spending senselessly is a waste. For instance, I don’t need to 240hz refresh. But, in addition to the 49” screen size, the larger curve is great, especially as I get older (my current monitor makes me stretch to see the ends of the monitor clearly) and I see this monitor may have the most pronounced curve for 49”. I am moderately comfortable with tech and can change settings easily, but don’t have a spare week to spend dozens of hours to get this running. Any thoughts you have on the application of this monitor to my needs would be greatly appreciated. I won’t hold anything against you for anything that goes different for me! Many thanks. I should not that I am using a MacBook Pro M3 with an Echo 20 Thunderbolt 4 Superdock.
@@Dr_Cole I would say this is probably not the best option considering, as you stated, a lot of what you're paying for is the high refresh rate and "gaming" features so I would rather look into some non-oled ultra wides (especially for productivity work, OLED can be a bit of an eye strain for some due to the subpixel layout causing text fringing). LG has quite a solid reputation for quality and a great productivity lineup such as their LG 40WP95C-W for example. There aren't a ton of ultrawides with the 1800r curve out there unfortunately, but with something like the 40in by LG previously mentioned, it isn't as wide, but its taller, so you wouldn't have to move your head side to side as much since there would be more vertical screen real-estate. That one also is marketed as having great compatibility with thunderbolt, although some of the reviews on the LG website state otherwise, so I would definitely check out some TH-cam reviews and see how it fairs in the hands of somebody with hands on experience.
I really enjoyed your review of the Samsung G9 QD-OLED. I feel you definitely went into more intricacies of owning a 32-9 panel than other reviews. For additional content however, I was wondering if you could do a review or the Corsair Xeon Flex 45” OlED utilizing G-sync? I feel if you went with that particular panel, you possibly would enjoy it more than the G9.. idk but I personally certainly want one myself, I’m sure others would like content on it as well. Just for thought… I know I would certainly watch a 7 day review of it!
Thank you! I would love to in the future. It was on the top of my list when shopping for a new monitor I just really wanted the highest PPI possible which is why I chose this, but that was my number 2 choice, so I can definitely see it being worth trying in the future!
Turn off gsync for windowed mode. Turn on VRR Set GPU to Maximum Performance If you continue to have black/blinking screen issues, it is 100% you cable unless the monitor is acutally faulty.
Thanks! Just be aware with any Samsung product apparently they don't have the best quality control. I can't really speak to it as this is my only monitor from them and once, I worked out the issues it's been (mostly) fine, they just don't have the best rep is all
Setup done in 10minutes. I didn't face any issues, I used hdmi to hdmi high speed for 1 laptop and premium high speed HEC to hdmi(came with monitor) with another laptop; not a single issue.
Thanks for the great review and troubleshooting! Picking up a G9 OLED today as an upgrade from a G9 Neo. Samsung has a long history of issues with their monitors and QA. Unfortunately, they are also one of the few companies pushing the envelop with 32:9 and QD-OLED.
Thanks for watching! Agreed, hopefully in the future they'll either pull it together with their QC or other companies will start to hop on the 32:9 train with a better track record. Enjoy the monitor!
@@SolarianN2 There a lot of great, detailed reviews out there (such as this one, The Display Guy, etc.), so I'll try to give you more of my big takeaways comparing the two. The OLED vs. Mini LED panel is noticeable out of the box. No blooming in high contrast scenes, better build quality (lighter/sturdier and zero QC/firmware issues on mine), and even at the same frame rates, everything looks smoother thanks to the much faster response times. If you can control the lighting in your space, the glossy screen coating is MUCH better than the matte one the Neo has. Colors jump off the screen and the contrast in every detail is amazing. The downsides are overall brightness, with the Neo having better overall peak and full panel brightness. The OLED also really exposes bad HDR implementations in games since you can tell if the devs didn't do their work to get true black levels or give proper sliders to adjust everything. The Neo gets around this a bit by being bright all the time. I would recommend the Neo as a productivity monitor to avoid burn-in, but the OLED takes the cake in games. With the big price drops right now, and if you can afford to replace it sooner than you would the Neo, I would go for the OLED. Buy it from a trusted shop for easy returns in case you run into issues. If there are any other questions I can answer, let me know!
Had a party last weekend with 3 pc players. All 3 players have contacted me about which OLED monitor they should get after seeing my LG C2 Oled as monitor. Think OLED is making a huge impact to pc players as it’s better picture without the extra performance needed.
I have this monitor it’s amazing once i got it working but i had to buy multiple cables and it took me about 3 weeks before my set up worked. Lack of ports major problem
it actually has pixel refresh iirc, when the monitor has clocked 4 hours on time ( example: you have the screen turned on for 5 hours of gaming and then turn it off) when you turn it off it will automatically run a pixel refresh to clear charges in the panel. unfortunately its not an option to manually run it. but it's happening when you don't use the screen (if it's turned off and plugged in) when it has clocked 4 hours of screen on time.
Nice Review, The only thing to stop me from trying this monitor is the Type-C just a USB hub, not for display like LG, BTW, Hope for LG 32 by 9 monitor review :)
Love the format! This experiential approach is infinitely better than someone reading off specs or the marketing sheet sent by the manufacturer, at the same time, not really too technically inclined covering things that will most likely not matter in day-to-day use! That being said, have you used ARC or eARC on this monitor?
I have a triple 2 27inch and 1 24 inch curved I feel that spending a total of 500 ish dollars no more than 600 dollars gets me quite the monitor experience and less issues too vs the 1.2-2k g9
I have this monitor. The black screen flicker actually used to happen to me only on the mini hdmi port until nvidia released updated drivers for this monitor. Also to completely stop the screen from going black run games in windowed borderless mode instead of full-screen. Full-screen causes a weird handshake where the screen goes black for like 5 seconds everytime you load/stop/alt tab a game. Lastly windows hdr calibration tool, set it to 0/1000/1000
I have the same problem with my screen going black for a few seconds alt tabbing, but I have a LG OLED that I run. Seems just like a HDR problem on windows
@@LawMasterTimmy its an issue with dsc support on almost all monitors especially if you have a nvidia gpu. dsc is needed for very high refreshrates and cant be turned of on the g9 oled.
Had the flickering screen with mine on Display Port 1.4, so I switched to the newer Display Port 2.1 even though both my monitor and RTX 4090 doesn't support it, it resolved the issue. As I read a lot of people with Playstations having the same issue and their fix was to reduce the Display Port bandwidth in their Playstation settings. Seems as though the monitor is demanding more than what a 1.4 cable can provide.
Thank you for such a detailed vid. Most content just praise the good things, no one talks about the troubles Let me ask you this, if you have tested other wide/ultrawide monitors, which one would you recommend ?
Thanks! I'm currently using the LG 34" Ultragear 3440 x 1440 IPS pannel for work and I love it (exact model:34GP83A-B) but I haven't tried any others. My reason for choosing this one was: on sale it's at a very competitive price, has fast response time with little ghosting, 144hz, 1440p resolution, and again all for a very reasonable price if you can catch it on sale
Great review! I'm debating between getting a 4K OLED myself or stay at 1440p. Do you say you really don't notice that big of a difference between 4K and 1440p?
Thanks! I definitely notice the difference looking at text and within apps, scrolling the internet, etc. but when actually gaming it's unnoticeable especially after a few weeks of giving my eyes time to adjust.
wow your video quality and editing are amazing, I legit thought it was a really big channel that had been doing this for a while but I really got surprised when I looked at the sub count. Keep up the good work, this series sounds like so much fun trying stuff for 7 days to see if you keep it, I hope to see more of that in the future and that your channel ends up growing a lot, bc you really have a lot of talent
there are two apps that are a must using ultra wide's with unsupported games. flawless widescreen and widescreen fixer, they will patch games when opened so you dont need to mess with hex editing or patching titles.
I already used 228-in 4K to edit video and 128-in G-Sync 120 hz for gaming. I'm considering upgrading graphics card and monitor so the 55-in arc or the 57-in G9 is my only option. Really confusing
Damn. Your editing is like you’ve been doing this for years. Good shit man. Keep to it! I got to 10k subs and got worn out haha. You’re also a champ for sticking with this for so long. It would have been sent back day 2. As someone with two OLED TVs, Oled is definitely not overrated. However. Oled monitors are trash so far. Every panel seems to have issues. Buy a tv 42-48inch tv if you want it on your desk or just get a large tv.
Appreciate it! I can definitely see the appeal for OLED (I mean I did buy one after all) I think I may have just hyped it up too much in my mind before buying. But after a few weeks I can see myself having a tough time going back to IPS. Hopefully in the future we’ll see companies put more effort into QC
I see you have Wallpaper engine running, I’ve had issues running games with that application active. I would set the wallpapers to not activate when a fullscreen app was running. While gaming my pc screens would turn black and totally unresponsive. Uninstalled the wallpaper engine and haven’t had issues yet.
Black screen is always an issue with Samsung, I don't think so they will ever fix it. But my experience is HDR is different than yours, HDR looks amazing on this monitor without even any tweaks.
Glade i got the neo g9 with the full back lit array with the micro leds have not had any of the flickering and the only thing that happens very seldomly once in a while is switching from exclusive to borderless window it would go black screen and get stuck there just have to hold power till screen shuts off then turn it back on again and its fine
Seems much more reliable than the OLED version, still trying to figure out the black screen flickers atm but I’ll keep this one in mind for the future if the OLED keeps acting up
As someone who has been running 32:9 for the past 2 years, most games I have played run perfect with 32:9 so I’m not sure how you’ve found that not many games run that aspect ratio?
I should have said most games I've tried, not most games in general. Starfield, Overwatch, Little Nightmares, Hollow Knight, and Ori and the Blind Forest were the games I had download and was playing at the time of the video and none worked natively with 32:9. Everybody plays different games and its always best to just check the compatibility. My point was that usually when buying a monitor, you don't have to check to make sure the games you play are supported, with this you should factor that in.
black screens: with the g9 oled, its an issue with gsync. Turn gsync/free sync off/on again it works fine until reboot. G8 oled use to have this issue but seems to be fixed with latest firmware. Returning g9 oled and going back to oled tv. I use a 49 for work but for me the best setups are. 34 ultrawide oled for fps. 77 oled for everything else, and ust projector for when you just want it really big.
I think more games will patch in 32:9 but Samsung needs to clean up some of the OS issues. I have had OLED Pannels since they release, and I am not responsible at all, and I never had burn in. I currently have LG 48inch tv c2 4k 120hz, using 4090 gpu and I9 1300k cpu. I am thinking about getting this monitor or wait for 4k 240hz monitor that's 48inch lol.
When I had the original G9, 32:9 support wasn't the issue. The issue is that basically every 3d game stretches the image on the edge of the screen. Lowering the FOV slightly helps, but there is just no way around it. 21:9 even had higher fovs does not have this problem. I honestly doubt this will ever get fixed by game developers due to the niche audience of 32:9 displays.
I don't think this will be fixed soon since for most people UWD is already perfect and more screen isn't needed then so it will stay a niche Better get a 4k screen with 16:9 res its better
Any know a fix for the display port issue? When I close a game the screen goes black and i either have to unplug/replug the DP cable back in to get it back.
I've just bought the G93 version of that monitor and not the G95 that is in this video. And for two days I was also thinking to bring it back to store. Main difference is between the type, that G93 comes without the smart functions and remote, but have the same panel as G95. But for that you get G93 cheaper. And here comes my problem with the monitor. Without the remote you have to use that little jog button at the back of the panel, which is a piece of shit. There are a lot of discussions on the internet about it, that I was not aware before. The button in not responsive and slow. First, I couldn't get to the menu, then I thought display port is not working, I couldn’t switch between HDMI and dp sources. Now, after 5 days using it, I think the whole problem was that cheap button. With more force and patience, I am now able to use it in 80% of cases… Also, worth to mention that I takes up to 2-3 sec to switch between 2 sources. It seems a bit slow for me.
Glad to hear some feedback on the G93, originally this is the one I would have bought since the "smart features" seem to be kind of redundant on a monitor that will be connected to a PC, but at the time of purchase it was actually more expensive than G95. Do you think the jog wheel issues are worth the money saved for anybody looking to choose between the two?
@@chettystudios 2 weeks after purchase I can tell that I got used to the jog. My only issue is, that also the menu of the G93 is different, so the settings provided by display guy on the G95 can not be adjusted 100% on the G93 :)
I got this monitor and I could not get over 60hz on my M2 Mac mini. I then order a USB C to display cable and now I get 5120x1440 at 240hz and I am loving it1
Interesting. Saw your post on Reddit and somehow ended up here. Thinking about buying it but kind of on the fence with everyone saying it can't be a work monitor and all with it being OLED.
I’ve owned Samsung monitors for about three years now. 😅. I do experience flickering, but it’s normally because of the hz or refresh rate difference causing flickering in some games
I have a 4090. Should I use HDMI or DP for gaming? Reddit seems to recommend HDMI. Can i still get 240HZ with HDMI? I thought you had to use a DP cable to get 240hz. Thanks!
Either will work, HDMI 2.1 will allow you to use 240hz it’s the older HDMI’s that limit to 120, but with a 4090 you will be fine. You can always try DP first, and if having issues switch to HDMI 2.1, but both will gave you the same performance, it’s just some of these monitors don’t play well with DP
As far hdr it does put extra load on gpu but it's not really something you will notice like 1%. I personally use 42 inch asus oled and when i want ultrawide i just set it at 3840x1600 its really big that its bigger than most ultrawides.
thanks, idk about you but im getting a really bad screen flicker. it only happens with my pc. not sure if i should try and send it back and keep looking for a solution. im on display port at 240hz. do you think hdmi 2.1 would help?@@chettystudios
I don't think that the pixel density is more just the overall resolution but since the screen is bigger this means only more strains on your graphic card for a bit biggee picture. I was gonna thinking getting an 32:9 monitor next but then i thought back of the experience on my 21:9 monitor some games could not native support the resolution (now nearly all of them do) I don't think more people will go up larger screen sizes since ultra wide is already for most people to much so the problem with compatibility will always continue... Decided to get an odyssey g8 though i need a lot of fixes since i use amd gpu .. ^^ still can't wait to get it
Hey there can you advise? I need a monitor for home working (I'm not a gamer). The 45GR95QE's screen height is perfect at 454.66mm but I need something slightly wider than 993.14mm ideally around 1200mm like the Samsung G9. Problem with the G9 is the height is only 365mm which isn't suitable. Is there such a curved monitor out there? The Odyssey Arc 55' is too expensive. Thanks.
look up rtings they have tested all monitors on earth with very detailed descriptions and for all use cases. i cant recommend a specific monitor but i can recommend to not get an oled because text clarity issues and risk of burn in. they are just not ment for working.
1st you don't need a Samsung account. 2nd I never had any of these issues you had. My 49 oled has been flawless. Have had the monitor for 2 months now. All Mt games have been wonderful on the monitor. Tarkov, Diablo4, and Halo is absolutely killer. I'm running on a 3080ti. Have had no issues what so ever.
Yeah I actually just released a video Friday with all recommended settings along with some trouble shooting tips. If you're interested in any in particular you can scrub to them on the timeline
@@Alabogaz best option would be an active hdmi 2.1, meaning it has an amplifier built into the cable (no specific brand comes to mind) , but the second best option would be a certified hdmi 2.1 with good reviews. There are plenty of people who have no issues with display port but it’s a shot in the dark whether or not yours will.
Thanks for the video. In your video, you showed the pop up me (GAME HUB) To change resolution etc. You used the remote. I cant get that same menu to pop up.
@@chettystudios Ok...heres the issue. I'm connecting to the monitor via DP cable. In order to do that, I had to turn off GAME MODE. When I turn on GAME MODE, DP connection doesn't work. But when I'm in GAME MODE, I hold the PLAY button and the GAME HUB popos up...just no feed from the computer
@@jessediaz918 super strange. It sounds like either the GPU or the cable aren’t allowing you to display at 1440p 240hz hence why it will only work in non-game mode. If you have one I would try another cable, and if not see if you can change the display resolution to 240 in windows display settings manually
I have this monitor going from thr original G9. Sent my first one back due to the flicker on display port. The new arrived and didnt do it for 3 days then did it so switched to hdmi 2.1 and hasnt happened for 2 days so fingers crossed its a dp issue at 240hz
Seems like hdmi is the way to go, I ended up picking up a brand new DP just to see if there were any issues and although not as bad as my first one, it did have some weird artifacting
@chettystudios yeah I get the same with DP the Samsung cable and one I bought. Had the monitor about 2 weeks hopefully be able to enjoy it soon instead of looking for faults.
@@chrisvenn Not gunna lie did take me a couple weeks to stop looking for faults but really enjoying it now, Alan Wake 2 looks absolutely stunning, best of luck!
I also won't be impress if i'm playing cod tunnel vision instead of maxing out on the peripheral view that you get from this kind of monitor. I also have the g9 and it was painful at first but after the proper settings it's the best monitor -- only issue for me is the price
Personally I prefer playing competitive style games in 16x9 but totally get wanting to use the whole monitor, I'm just anal about trying to get the maximum amount of frames as possible when playing "competitively"
So the flickering problem I've experienced in the past (not with this monitor) and the culprit was the display driver needed to be updated. In my case it was an Intel driver.
I’ve double checked the drivers and unfortunately it’s not that, for some odd reason if I turn the monitor on, game until it happens, then turn it off for a minute it goes away for the rest of the night so only thing I can chalk it up to is maybe it’s trying to do a pixel refresh of some sort and turning it off gives it a chance to do its thing
You can absolutly tell the difference between 144 and 200 FPS. The human eye and brain can see differences in framerate up to 900 FPS (tested in studies). That 900 FPS limit wasn't tested with a 900 FPS video though but rather a white image that showed a picture of a random thing for decreasing amounts of time up to the equivalent of 1 FPS on a 900 Hz Monitor and the people in the study where able to see the image and even tell what it was (car, plane, person, etc.) Now recognising small differences on a game or a movie is obviously somthing different. But this study has shown that you will see improvements in smoothness in motion up to 900 Hz. Going from 144 to 240 to 520 and up will bring you diminishing returns the higher you go because the difference in frame time of how long a frame stays up is gonna be smaller and smaller.
I just got this monitor and I’ve had nothing but problems with it. Sometimes it’ll run fine, but then all of a sudden it’ll crap out on me. When I’m not playing a game I’ll get a gray screen with blue vertical bars, and I have to power cycle the PC to use windows again. Occasionally in games I’ll black screen. I am using an AMD 6800XT with the cables that came with it.
I would contact Samsung then, most of my problems were fixed with better cables but it always worked with the cables in the box. Only other issue could be inadequate power if you have a lot of things plugged into the same circuit
how i fix my black screen flicker was i just needed to use the display cable that came with the screen the monitor for some reason when i try to use a custom cable it black screen and bugs out.
It depends what you’re looking for. Color accuracy straight out of the box, no. Having a super long timeline, yes. I personally don’t use it because I prefer more vertical space than horizontal when editing but I can see somebody liking it for this use case to view more of their timeline, it would just need to be color calibrated if doing any color intensive work.
I don't know how your channel doesn't have more subscribers, your editing and content is TOP NOTCH!
Appreciate it!
Thank you! Huge tip!
HDR is trash tech anyways anyone with half a brain knows this. Just stick to SDR and properly set your display up...
I really like the video and the level of quality but i do not appreciate the overlapping voice tracks.
noted!
thx, that drives me crazy 😢
I hate it when creators stitch their thoughts together like this in post. I realise you might be trying to cut out "empty space" but the cuts are jarring.
Agreed, it’s not good.
@chettystudios how about 16:9 x 16:9 as of they were both separate w
Monitors? That works all the time?
I thought my dad’s 21/9 monitor was big. But oh boy have I been humbled
Thank you!!🔥
Thank you! Hope you love the monitor!
you can absolutely tell the difference between 144 and 240 hz.
Been thinking about the regular one for work myself, seems like a solid solution to dual 27" monitors
Could you explain what you mean by "and with it not being OLED, it's fantastic for productivity".
@@MrNewff a big issue with doing productivity work on OLED is the worry of static elements causing burn in, so for some people who work with static elements all day an OLED could have un-even wear much more easily than a non-OLED
@@chettystudiosOh yeah makes sense. Thanks
@@chettystudiosalso clear text still doesn’t look as good as a native rgb monitor and I don’t think macOS has clear text
Best review I've seen of this monitor, well done!
Thank you!
Great work my guy. I just purchased my first OLED G8 34in and can’t wait to see how much of a difference it will make.
Thanks man! It'll be a nice upgrade for sure
Thats awesome! Curious which connection you're using, HDMI or DP?
I run a 27+34+27 right now and the center 34 is 21:9 but without being able to do "surround gaming" due to mismatched monitors I am looking to upgrade.
The Neo G9 49" and OLED are so hard to choose between.
At the end of the day I do much more work than gaming/media consumption so lots of static things (burn in) and text (clarity) so even though I LOVE OLED and wish I could have those super dark perfect blacks, and I prefer a dim screen over a really bright one (my current monitor only 30% brightness) I decided to go with the 57" Neo so I can finally upgrade for 1440P to 4K, and I just hope that it looks good when doing stuff that cant support 32:9
I do not think I would have been really happy replacing 3 monitors with a single 1440 I would lose screen restate that I am used to using every day.
Seems like that 57in was made for you then!
Use this settings and it will look amazing and will fix the black screen problems. I wrote it in german but i think u can translate it ez to english

Best review ever and being honest it's very hard to find these days
Appreciate it!
Haven’t had any issues myself with wallpaper engine (yet) so could be a hidden setting somewhere in there but I’ll keep an eye out for any fixes!

awesome review, straight to the point, no youtruber BS, subscribed
My use case though, was that I needed two monitors for work, but can only use one cable on my desk space the way I've got my studio set up. So my current setup is similar to what I describe above, but I replaced the 1440p monitor with the G9. :)
I just ordered the Phillips Evnia 49”
Let’s hope I get a better experience.
Thank you so much for 7:48, I'm on a 4k 32 inch monitor at the moment and I have been quite worried about the PPI downgrade.
If it helps 3 weeks later of not looking at 4k the thought barely even crosses my mind, far less noticeable now that I've adjusted back to 1440.
@@chettystudios good to hear! I don’t have access to a 109 ppi display and have watched SO many odyssey g9 reviews hoping someone would be in the same position as myself
Best video I’ve seen on this and love you recommending the display guy and his discord for settings expertise.
Thanks!
@@chettystudios this is incredibly helpful. Thank you!
That's a very high quality video, subscribed!
A big W with this monitor over the non ultrawide OLED monitors is that it has a glossy panel.
Interesting did not know this!
G8 Ultrawide has also a glossy panel
I had the same issue with the blinking screen, also with the Neo G9. For me what fixed it was turning gsync off.
I had the same issue as well. I think it was a mismatch between VRR on the monitor and G-Sync in control panel
Turn off gsync for windowed mode.
Turn on VRR
Set GPU to Maximum Performance
If you continue to have black/blinking screen issues, it is 100% you cable unless the monitor is acutally faulty.
great video only one I've seen that actually details dealing with a monitor I dont have. may have to stick to ordering a G8 OLED
Thank man you opened my eyes.
Samsung is the only manufacturer that makes QDOLED tech, no matter who makes them they are still samsung panels.
@taw317 how did the neo compare to the oled for you? Thinking about upgrading from the G9 to neo or Oled atm.
All that matters is oled. LED in 2023 is pointless.@@SolarianN2
Good review, thanks! I am curious about the keyboard you are using, what's the model?
Thanks! The white one is the higround snowstone
Had a party last weekend with 3 pc players. All 3 players have contacted me about which OLED monitor they should get after seeing my LG C2 Oled as monitor. Think OLED is making a huge impact to pc players as it’s better picture without the extra performance needed.
Totally, been seeing lots of people upgrading to OLED rather than upgrading components lately and seem really happy with their choice
I have this monitor it’s amazing once i got it working but i had to buy multiple cables and it took me about 3 weeks before my set up worked. Lack of ports major problem
Which cable have you settled on?
which cable are you using ?
it actually has pixel refresh iirc, when the monitor has clocked 4 hours on time ( example: you have the screen turned on for 5 hours of gaming and then turn it off) when you turn it off it will automatically run a pixel refresh to clear charges in the panel. unfortunately its not an option to manually run it. but it's happening when you don't use the screen (if it's turned off and plugged in) when it has clocked 4 hours of screen on time.
Good to know thanks! Eases my mind a bit for sure
Nice Review, The only thing to stop me from trying this monitor is the Type-C just a USB hub, not for display like LG, BTW, Hope for LG 32 by 9 monitor review :)
Thanks! And I agree, USB-C for display would make this 10x better
Love the format! This experiential approach is infinitely better than someone reading off specs or the marketing sheet sent by the manufacturer, at the same time, not really too technically inclined covering things that will most likely not matter in day-to-day use! That being said, have you used ARC or eARC on this monitor?
Thank you! I have not unfortunately, I usually use headphones and not too knowledgeable about sound systems atm

It's barely noticeable going from 1440p to 4k in games, especially so if you apply the Nvidia sharpening filter.
wow your video quality and editing are amazing, I legit thought it was a really big channel that had been doing this for a while but I really got surprised when I looked at the sub count. there are two apps that are a must using ultra wide's with unsupported games. flawless widescreen and widescreen fixer, they will patch games when opened so you dont need to mess with hex editing or patching titles.
Been doing all the hex editing myself and although not difficult it's definitely daunting, super helpful thanks!
I already used 228-in 4K to edit video and 128-in G-Sync 120 hz for gaming. I'm considering upgrading graphics card and monitor so the 55-in arc or the 57-in G9 is my only option. Really confusing
Have this monitor and its great and beautiful . I have no problems at all.
I'll try it out thanks! I've seen others having issues with WE as well lately
awesome video thank you for telling us the truth
Black screen is always an issue with Samsung, I don't think so they will ever fix it. But my experience is HDR is different than yours, HDR looks amazing on this monitor without even any tweaks.
I've heard this from others as well, I'm guessing it's just a weird calibration on some
Glade i got the neo g9 with the full back lit array with the micro leds have not had any of the flickering and the only thing that happens very seldomly once in a while is switching from exclusive to borderless window it would go black screen and get stuck there just have to hold power till screen shuts off then turn it back on again and its fine
Seems much more reliable than the OLED version, still trying to figure out the black screen flickers atm but I’ll keep this one in mind for the future if the OLED keeps acting up
What about streaming and gaming at the same time , having the chat or obs on the other side while playing seems a dream
Chetty Studios, what are the options under screen size? Would I be able directly through the monitor to set it up as 21:9 aspect ratio? Thank you.
3440:1440 is the equivalent setting on this monitor for 21:9

I don't think this will be fixed soon since for most people UWD is already perfect and more screen isn't needed then so it will stay a niche
Better get a 4k screen with 16:9 res its better
4k at smaller screen sizes is pointless its better for larger tvs. Ultrawide is the better gaming experience@@kleinfeicht
With more force and patience, I am now able to use it in 80% of cases…
Also, worth to mention that I takes up to 2-3 sec to switch between 2 sources.
If your plan is to also use for work the regular non-OLED would definitely be a much better option
Damn these overlapping voice clips will drive me insane😂
6:03 Where are the settings that the Display Guy recommends located? I saw a video he didn't, but didn't see him go over the settings.
They are on his Patreon, it's $1 to sign up for a month so I just signed up for one month to get the settings then unsubscribed
is this good for video editing
Did you download the display guys ICC profile? If so was that for HDR ?
I did and it is for HDR, but tbh the biggest change was settings, I didn’t notice a huge difference with the ICC profile
thanks, idk about you but im getting a really bad screen flicker. it only happens with my pc. not sure if i should try and send it back and keep looking for a solution. im on display port at 240hz. do you think hdmi 2.1 would help?@@chettystudios
@@chettystudios You shouldn't use anyone elses ICC profile. It's only relevant to the monitor that the colorimeter was used on.
This! Meant to mention in the video but it's mentioned on his website so people should see when directed there @@Phil_529
^^ still can't wait to get it
This is literally unreadable, please use punctuation instead of spouting out your brain's farts.
Thanks.
look up rtings they have tested all monitors on earth with very detailed descriptions and for all use cases. i cant recommend a specific monitor but i can recommend to not get an oled because text clarity issues and risk of burn in. they are just not ment for working.
consider the odyssey 57'' it can run 3840x2160 @ 240hz and the hdr make you go wow vs these oled monitors
Definitely on my wishlist for a productivity monitor once all the issues are fixed
Did you get any black screens ? And no signal from device conected?
Yes the fix for me is a high quality HDMI cable
1st you don't need a Samsung account. 2nd I never had any of these issues you had. My 49 oled has been flawless. Have had the monitor for 2 months now. All Mt games have been wonderful on the monitor. Tarkov, Diablo4, and Halo is absolutely killer. I'm running on a 3080ti. Have had no issues what so ever.
u think its ok if i run this on 3070ti?
Ru facing any issue now?
Can you tell us what the settings that were recommended for this monitor?
Yeah I actually just released a video Friday with all recommended settings along with some trouble shooting tips. If you're interested in any in particular you can scrub to them on the timeline
Amazon has a coupon for this monitor making it 1099.99 atm. If my LG C2 weren’t on my desk already I would consider it
Which cable do you recommend to connect it to the computer? whit Ndivia RTX 4090
I have the DWF Alienware & i have a 4080 I'm hitting around 200fps in mw3 but the monitor is only 165hz. Should i upgrade??
Nah lol 200fps frame time is 5ms and 165fps frame time is 6ms so it’s not a big difference
Gotham Night the next game that u should try it in oled after cyberbunk for tips 😂😂
I'll add it on my list!
Great info delivered, but mate, break up the cadence of your speech. It's literally like a constant stream of voice. 🇦🇺
Thanks for the video. In your video, you showed the pop up me (GAME HUB) To change resolution etc. You used the remote. I cant get that same menu to pop up.
To access with the remote you press and hold the play/pause button
@@chettystudios Thanks for the reply. I tried and it didnt work
@@chettystudios Ok...heres the issue.
@@chettystudios Thanks for the response. Ill mess around and see what I can some up with. BUt other than that, I love the monitor
@chettystudios cheers, picked up Alan wake 2 on the series X as wasnt on steam but got 65inch s95b oled for xbox
That 900 FPS limit wasn't tested with a 900 FPS video though but rather a white image that showed a picture of a random thing for decreasing amounts of time up to the equivalent of 1 FPS on a 900 Hz Monitor and the people in the study where able to see the image and even tell what it was (car, plane, person, etc.)
Now recognising small differences on a game or a movie is obviously somthing different. But this study has shown that you will see improvements in smoothness in motion up to 900 Hz. Going from 144 to 240 to 520 and up will bring you diminishing returns the higher you go because the difference in frame time of how long a frame stays up is gonna be smaller and smaller.
Got a G9 Neo, heavily suggested.
Any update on the black screen flickers? I’m close to just throwing this thing in the trash.
Yes! It was my HDMI cord. I switched to a shorter newer one and it works flawless now. Make sure its HDMI 2.1 and shorter than 15ft
Only other issue could be inadequate power if you have a lot of things plugged into the same circuit
how i fix my black screen flicker was i just needed to use the display cable that came with the screen the monitor for some reason when i try to use a custom cable it black screen and bugs out.
when you use Picture By Picture from 2 different inputs i.e. PC and PS5 are each side 1440p 120hz?
I haven't tried it personally yet, but from what I understand that is how it works
Is it good for video editing?
It depends what you’re looking for.
Color accuracy straight out of the box, no. Having a super long timeline, yes. I personally don’t use it because I prefer more vertical space than horizontal when editing but I can see somebody liking it for this use case to view more of their timeline, it would just need to be color calibrated if doing any color intensive work.
Hello, Congratulations Cool 👍👏👏👏
