Can you do a comparison between the OLED G9 and S95C? I'm wondering how stark the difference is between the two displays. I've heard the s95c has really good skin colors when calibrated, and am wondering if that is also the case for the OLED G9, and just how much better the brightness and picture quality is on the s95c.
I doubt this is true glossy, it probably has some haze in the glossy coating just like the previous 34" QD OLEDs. If you look at these panels beside a LG C2 the difference is clear. QD OLED have a veiled the picture, the other has pretty much a clear glossy picture.
@@Deffine Are you talking about the scattering material in the red quantum dots, as well as activation of quantum dots when hit with light? That has nothing to do with the coating. And why would yo use the display while hitting it with light from the front.
I wish Samsung would implement their 'Flex Move Screen' feature they used on the Odyssey Ark on every (super)ultrawide monitor they make in the future, because then you could just switch to 16 by 9 only one screen in the middle (for older incompatible games for example). Yes you can use PiP but if you only want one screen and you want it centered that would be a feature i'm looking for.
Why would you buy a 49 ultrawide monitor in the first place, when you want to play older games? Cause these games must be really old to be not compatible with ultrawide monitor.
I've had my G9 OLED now for 3 months. I love it to death. It replaced my CHG90 so coming from that, this was a HUGE upgrade. Phantom Liberty & Alan Wake 2 cranked with Path Tracing (thanks to my 4080) with HDR turned on is pure eye candy. I was initially worried that the HDR400 cert was going to bug me. But it's PLENTY bright for me as I primarily game at night or light controlled room. My only real gripe is the PBP (now named Multiview for this panel) is a little restrictive. It can only do a 1/2 split. It won't allow you to do a 21:9 split for example. Which sucks, but not the end of the world. You do lose out on HDR though as well. But I still often find myself enjoying my PS5 split with my PC. If I'm really craving a gorgeous gaming experience, I'll just game on my PC and run full 32:9 and let my GPU do it's magic. I'm hoping to see an OLED variant of the 57" Neo.
38" yes please! i totally agree with that! Good to hear they have a glossy finish instead of mat now. Im really waiting for the V2 34" display's at the moment. i want that 240Hz and glossy finish before i buy a QD Oled monitor for 1000+ euro's.
Does this monitor do pbp? If it does, what’s its restrictions? I know some monitors with pbp restrict frame rate and hdr capabilities when in that mode so I’m curious about this one
Haven't gotten a chance to play around with my G9 OLED yet, but out of the box, it is NOTICEABLY brighter and more vibrant than my LG Flex. I love that Flex's size, curve, and 4k for work, but I think for all around use (WFH and gaming), this QD OLED is going to win out and the Flex getting sold. Shout out to the Display Guy- you may flip flop your opinions here and there and love to goof, but as a long time monitor snob, I agree with a lot of your takes on display tech, aspect ratios, and especially coatings. Glossy coating makes such a huge difference to IQ, can't stress it enough. Well worth buying some curtains or blinds to try to control the light in the room. The first LCD panel I actually liked in comparison to CRT had a glossy screen, and it took me a while to figure out what I liked so much about it was (believe it or not, it was a GATEWAY, FHD2400). Glossy panels just pop. I just hope the quality, software, and burn in mitigation on this monitor is up to snuff. LG has been a bit stronger in these aspects.
Do you know if this monitors supports full refresh rate in Picture By Picture mode? All previous G9s throttle this down to 120hz. I've seen some make custom resolutions for the prev gen 9 that worked at 230Hz in 2x 16:9 mode. Asking because I will consider this monitor if I get full 240Hz in at least the main window, as that would enable me to replace my dual monitor setup using a movable monitor arm, as I could adjust position and go 16:9 main window for FPS esports @240hz or 21:9 for more immersive games (where sometimes above-120hz is still useful and nice) and use the remaining screenspace for communication programs, chats, browser, some productivity stuff. It has really been the remaining remaining missing functionality that would grant Super Ultrawide the ability to replace dual monitor setups for pretty much any user.
How are you feeling now that it's $999? Is there additional latency by just getting this and using it as a 16x9 OLED 1440p monitor for competitive FPS CS2?
Even a RTX 4090 would feel slow at that res, and you would need to buy Nvidia's most pricy GPU every single generation to keep up with new games. Milked to the max.
Can you test this please and confirm?: --switch over to HDMI 2.1 (12 bit + 240hz)-- Wasn't aware that Samsung brought over DSC so HDMI 2.1 is now able to run 240hz + 12 bit. After switching over from DP 1.4 there was a huge difference for me in terms of color
Got it on Amazon Black Friday sale for $999- took the credit card gift card and that dropped the price to $799! Feeling pretty stoked after watching this video as I just bought it a few hours ago.
Further impressions, now that I've got to check out several games on this thing, again, comparing to the LG Flex (42" curved 4k, basically a C2/EVO panel with curves), and before that, the ubiquitous Alienware AW3423DW- 1) HDR performance is noticably better with the my OLED G9 than either the LG or the Alienware. The LG just doesn't get as bright, and the colors are noticeably less vibrant. I know I'm parroting what Display Guy and others have said, but it is really noticable. In my view, the stunning HDR (and SDR) performance more than offsets 4K, even on the Flex, which is a very nice monitor. The OLED G9 just has more "pop." The Alienware was pretty close to the OLED G9, which makes sense, but because of the coating on the AW3423DW, blacks were always a little more grey to me in anything but a dark room, which others have also stated. 2) This is my 32:9 panel, and still getting used to it. That said, I'm surprised how much I like the format so far for gaming, not only for driving games, but in general. There's definitely some screen real estate that gets wasted in the peripherary of my vision, but it's not as bad as I thought it might be. The monitor's still a little short, though, and I'm kind of with the Display Guy on this- 38" 3840 x 1600 might have been better for gaming and overall. We'll see how annoying turning my head will get. 3) Motion clarity is really fucking good. Running a 4090/13900k custom loop which can definitely push some frames in many games, and although I'm not playing any multiplayer games where 240hz might really be vital, I definitely feel the difference over the 120hz of the LG Flex. 4)Long term, burn in potential for the 2nd gen QD-OLED panels remains to be seen. The monitor does comes with pixel shift/logo dimming, but I haven't yet found any "Pixel Cleaning" function like the Alienware or LG. The jury is out, but it's definitely something to be aware of. That said, i'm basically working out of the box with 30/50 panel brightness, and can confirm that you don't have to run this panel hard at all for everyday use- hella bright. 5) Love the new minimalist Samsung stand design. Stupid easy to assemble, stable, tilt and up/down, and best of all, stays out of the damned way, unlike most current "gamer" double leg designs. I don't think a monitor arm is going to be necessary for me at all.
How is yours connected and can you tell me a bit about your settings? Because my impression is that the brightness is seriously lacking. On the Windows destop strangely even SDR seems brighter than HDR, even if I crank up the Windows HDR setting to the max. OLED G9 is connected via DP to a 4090. Warm 2 color, brightness and contrast at max of 50, peak brightness to high. Also in Forza Horizon 5 everything seems too dark for me for HDR. And I gotta say that I also have a 65“ S95B TV with last years QD OLED and I play FH5 there too and I do not have any complaints about brightness on the S95B. I have the latest 1022 firmware on the G9 btw.
@@el_p1nko Stock settings for me. After using the screen a bit more, I think you're right- in peak HDR, it doesn't get quite as bright as my Alienware did. No noticeable ABL, though- it may be set up similar to the HDR true black 400 settings on the Alienware.
@@el_p1nko playing around with Windows HDR calibration definitely yielded some good results (cranking up HDR brightness). Godrays in SW:FO had me squinting!

In your patreon you have profile but you have another file that is instructions for hdr and sdr. My question is do we have to do this every time we are using hdr or not? Or does it just keep your setting for either or was there presets we were keeping it under
Can you connect bluetooth speakers to this monitor and play all audio through the speakers? For example if I have a ps5 plugged into the HDMI and connect this monitor to bluetooth speakers, will the PS5 sound come through the speakers?
Ordering this (2000$) or the g8 32” 4k monitor (900$). Any suggestions or recommendations? Going to use for gaming and coding, and I am afraid the oled will burn in having static windows on sides while coding/gaming in the center window
I had the LG C2 since its lauch with no burn in. And its 1st gen OLED... not 2md gen QDOLED. Just gotta be smart, turn in the protections, and not watch CNN/youtube logo on it .
WOLED (LG/Alienware) has better longevity than QD OLED (Samsung). This Samsung also doesn't have pixel cleaning, unlike LG or Alienware. Burn in will always be an issue with static images, pixel shift and logo brightness adjust don't mitigate everything. For a mixed use (gaming + work) I would not recommend a QD OLED as of now.
Can you talk about your monitor settings outside of calibration? I tried my best but I think I have it set too bright or too much contrast? Unsure what picture mode ect I should use. Thanks

Thanks for a nice review. But what about ABL with regards to the brightness? Seems reasonable that the 100% meassurements would be greatly affected by this, and thus also the potential to use this monitor for work/productivity as well?
What setting is supposed to be 6500k on the OLED G9? For the Samsung TVs it‘s the „Warm 2“ setting, but on the OLED G9 this seems far too yellow for me (and I am used to Warm 2 on two Samsung TVs I own also).
Main reason why I rejected this monitor is because its HDR peak nit brightness is 400 and SDR at 250 nits (these figures are tested from another source); way too low for the asking price of $2,200.
Just picked one up for 1600. Gets here in 4 days, excited to use this for ACTUAL WORK. My dev machine is also my gaming machine so, Im just counting this one as a uh, ahem, business expense.
@@williamhites6759 its fine, windows 11 has much better support for subpixel anti-aliasing, although i dont use it. Default 8 pt font size is just wayy too small on a screen this size and larger fonts dont suffer from the oled aliasing issue.
Samsung should release 1000nits and above laptops dynamic amoled or qd oled displays from 17 to 21 inch for laptops and Galaxy book 4 pro 360 with mentioned characteristics with desktop gpu support like alienware graphics amplifier.
Bought one. Massive upgrade once the settings are optimized. For those with older graphics cards, i tested on a 1070 and was able to get full resolution but only with 8 bit dithering and 120hz. Dropping to 60hz allowed me to get to 10 bit color. On a 7900xtx no limitations whatsoever--biggest decision is what cable to use--HDMI will allow 12 bit color. However, the screen is only 10bit so its really a wash
Just build with a 7900XTX, my OLED G9 will be here tomorrow to replace 2x 32 inch curved G7s, I so wanted to get a 4K display but decided that 1440p is my sweet spot as I undervolt for max gains, its the perfect sweet spot of quality and performance. Cannot WAIT to plug it in and get to gaming.

What? It's exactly the same size and amount of pixels as two 27" 16:9 1440p monitors. There's nothing stopping you from buying either those or something like this. I would personally prefer >=38" 21:9 with >=1600p resolution with some type of Oled panel. The vertical space and resolution just isn't enough for me in any oled ultrawide monitor currently, but LG already has one coming up in less than few years
I got this on Tuesday. I paid £2000 for it and the next day it got reduced by £400. But annoyed. I have noticed that when the screen is black, the display is a lighter black than the bezzels. Not sure if that's right or not. My LGC2 is completely black when it's black matching the black of the bezzels. Is it supposed to be like that?
i switched from the 49g9, non neo, this this g9 oled and for some reason i cannot get any game to run in fullscreen now. just windowed and windowed (full screen). do you have any tips to remedy this by chance? i had zero issues running full screen on the 49g9
What do you mean by SRGB Mode? I can't find it on my display. How do you active it? Also my unit reports different peak brightness on DP and HDMI. DP 400 Nits, HDMI - 1000 Nits. Does this change anything? Did you test it on DP or HDMI?

How's the sound on this monitor's fans? Can you hear them? Are they louder/quieter than the Alienware QD OLED (1st generation)? Totally agree with you about the need for a 38 inch 16x9 with 1600 pixel vertical resolution.
İ bought the 93sc without remote for 1060 usd in Turkiye. It is very bright i use it at %50 brightness settings on control panel settings. 32/9 is a little overkill but i can use 3 programs without switching. Picture quality is top notch. But white screens is like looking at a big street lamp. This screen is huge. In bright screens it lits the room and the hallway.
Got mine for 1200(as a best buy member I might as well get the smart version with the warranty) and it's fantastic for my use case. I've got chronic pain issues so I use my computer with a monitor on a swingarm over my recliner which makes multiple displays awkward, this lets me play most games in borderless windowed and still have more screen space for videos/guides etc. On the games that do fully support 32:9 it's fantastic, though I mostly find myself rolling that back to 21:9 and having some space to run a youtube video.
Just bought the "Hubless" version for $1299. I have zero need for a Hub, especially since my secondary monitor is an 48" LG cx where I will be doing all of my movie watching and console gaming, although I haven't even powered up my PS5 in over a year, other than to watch an ultra 4k blu ray movie. My Oled comes tomorrow, so I will see if it's a worthy upgrade to my Samsung Odyssey G9 (non NEO) version. I can then bring that G9 to work and get rid of my dual stacked ultrawide setup. Looking up at the top monitor was killing my neck, but I think I will keep my Samsung G5 21:9 ultrawide and find a use for it at home. Maybe get an arm for the G5 and run a 3 monitor setup, and box myself in like a peninsula surrounded my monitors. I originally wanted to get the 57" version,, but I think my RTX 4070 TI may struggle to drive that monster, plus $1299 is nearly half the price and is still a substantial upgrade over my base Odyssey G9, and I'll also be getting an upgrade at work, where it will be primarily used for productivity with Excel spreadsheets and I would have to worry less about screen burn in.
I used to play Battlefield games in 5760x1080, the width helps with peripheral vision. I got this monitor for gaming because it is super ultrawide. ......and also, because it is glossy.

samsung already has dsc over hdmi 2.1 my neo g8 supports it. but since these panels are only 10bit 12bit is of no use

4)Long term, burn in potential for the 2nd gen QD-OLED panels remains to be seen. The monitor does comes with pixel shift/logo dimming, but I haven't yet found any "Pixel Cleaning" function like the Alienware or LG. The jury is out, but it's definitely something to be aware of. That said, i'm basically working out of the box with 30/50 panel brightness, and can confirm that you don't have to run this panel hard at all for everyday use- hella bright.
5) Love the new minimalist Samsung stand design. Stupid easy to assemble, stable, tilt and up/down, and best of all, stays out of the damned way, unlike most current "gamer" double leg designs. I don't think a monitor arm is going to be necessary for me at all.
I would definitely be swapping to it if it was 3840x1600. As of now I’m on the fence and liking the S95C more still.

How is yours connected and can you tell me a bit about your settings? Because my impression is that the brightness is seriously lacking. On the Windows destop strangely even SDR seems brighter than HDR, even if I crank up the Windows HDR setting to the max. OLED G9 is connected via DP to a 4090. Warm 2 color, brightness and contrast at max of 50, peak brightness to high.
Also in Forza Horizon 5 everything seems too dark for me for HDR.
And I gotta say that I also have a 65“ S95B TV with last years QD OLED and I play FH5 there too and I do not have any complaints about brightness on the S95B.
I have the latest 1022 firmware on the G9 btw.
@@el_p1nko Stock settings for me. After using the screen a bit more, I think you're right- in peak HDR, it doesn't get quite as bright as my Alienware did. No noticeable ABL, though- it may be set up similar to the HDR true black 400 settings on the Alienware.
@@el_p1nko playing around with Windows HDR calibration definitely yielded some good results (cranking up HDR brightness). Godrays in SW:FO had me squinting!

I had the LG C2 since its lauch with no burn in. And its 1st gen OLED... not 2md gen QDOLED. Just gotta be smart, turn in the protections, and not watch CNN/youtube logo on it .

WOLED (LG/Alienware) has better longevity than QD OLED (Samsung). This Samsung also doesn't have pixel cleaning, unlike LG or Alienware. Burn in will always be an issue with static images, pixel shift and logo brightness adjust don't mitigate everything. For a mixed use (gaming + work) I would not recommend a QD OLED as of now.

Standard with eco mode off. HDR off in windows and on for games.

I used my wife's edu account to pre-order it @ $1,650. With the 250$ gift card it would bring it down to $1,400. I agree, the $2,200 MSPR is insane.

What setting is supposed to be 6500k on the OLED G9? For the Samsung TVs it‘s the „Warm 2“ setting, but on the OLED G9 this seems far too yellow for me (and I am used to Warm 2 on two Samsung TVs I own also).
It is far too yellow on Warm 2. Settings are in my Patreon.
Main reason why I rejected this monitor is because its HDR peak nit brightness is 400 and SDR at 250 nits (these figures are tested from another source); way too low for the asking price of $2,200.
There is no brightness difference between sdr on hdr on any display....you've been duped by marketing

@@williamhites6759 its fine, windows 11 has much better support for subpixel anti-aliasing, although i dont use it. Default 8 pt font size is just wayy too small on a screen this size and larger fonts dont suffer from the oled aliasing issue.
Is it good for productivity?
Samsung should release 1000nits and above laptops dynamic amoled or qd oled displays from 17 to 21 inch for laptops and Galaxy book 4 pro 360 with mentioned characteristics with desktop gpu support like alienware graphics amplifier.
Bought one. Massive upgrade once the settings are optimized. For those with older graphics cards, i tested on a 1070 and was able to get full resolution but only with 8 bit dithering and 120hz. Dropping to 60hz allowed me to get to 10 bit color. On a 7900xtx no limitations whatsoever--biggest decision is what cable to use--HDMI will allow 12 bit color. However, the screen is only 10bit so its really a wash
Just build with a 7900XTX, my OLED G9 will be here tomorrow to replace 2x 32 inch curved G7s, I so wanted to get a 4K display but decided that 1440p is my sweet spot as I undervolt for max gains, its the perfect sweet spot of quality and performance. Cannot WAIT to plug it in and get to gaming.

What? It's exactly the same size and amount of pixels as two 27" 16:9 1440p monitors. There's nothing stopping you from buying either those or something like this. I would personally prefer >=38" 21:9 with >=1600p resolution with some type of Oled panel. The vertical space and resolution just isn't enough for me in any oled ultrawide monitor currently, but LG already has one coming up in less than few years

I got this on Tuesday. I paid £2000 for it and the next day it got reduced by £400. But annoyed. I have noticed that when the screen is black, the display is a lighter black than the bezzels. Not sure if that's right or not. My LGC2 is completely black when it's black matching the black of the bezzels. Is it supposed to be like that?

S95B unfortunately has 144Hz issues, so because of that I think I’d use this or an S95C depending on what you are looking for.

What do you mean by SRGB Mode? I can't find it on my display. How do you active it? Also my unit reports different peak brightness on DP and HDMI. DP 400 Nits, HDMI - 1000 Nits. Does this change anything? Did you test it on DP or HDMI?
Use HDMI. sRGB is the gamma curve it follows when HDR is disabled.

the neo g9 (previous one) has 1000r. the lower the number the tighter the curve. the oled has 1800 which is flatter

No fans I’m pretty sure.
It's a very, very thin panel with no Gsync ultimate module- also confident there's no fan, definitely didn't hear anything.

İ bought the 93sc without remote for 1060 usd in Turkiye. It
is very bright i use it at %50 brightness settings on control panel settings. 32/9 is a little overkill but i can use 3 programs without switching. Picture quality is top notch. But white screens is like looking at a big street lamp. This screen is huge. In bright screens it lits the room and the hallway.
Is this good for purely productivity? Mainly web browser work looking at text, logs etc

Got mine for 1200(as a best buy member I might as well get the smart version with the warranty) and it's fantastic for my use case. I've got chronic pain issues so I use my computer with a monitor on a swingarm over my recliner which makes multiple displays awkward, this lets me play most games in borderless windowed and still have more screen space for videos/guides etc. On the games that do fully support 32:9 it's fantastic, though I mostly find myself rolling that back to 21:9 and having some space to run a youtube video.
I can get it for 1049 straight from samsung. But I will wait for a 45" 21:9 aspect ratio instead.

Just bought the "Hubless" version for $1299. I have zero need for a Hub, especially since my secondary monitor is an 48" LG cx where I will be doing all of my movie watching and console gaming, although I haven't even powered up my PS5 in over a year, other than to watch an ultra 4k blu ray movie. My Oled comes tomorrow, so I will see if it's a worthy upgrade to my Samsung Odyssey G9 (non NEO) version. I can then bring that G9 to work and get rid of my dual stacked ultrawide setup. Looking up at the top monitor was killing my neck, but I think I will keep my Samsung G5 21:9 ultrawide and find a use for it at home. Maybe get an arm for the G5 and run a 3 monitor setup, and box myself in like a peninsula surrounded my monitors. I originally wanted to get the 57" version,, but I think my RTX 4070 TI may struggle to drive that monster, plus $1299 is nearly half the price and is still a substantial upgrade over my base Odyssey G9, and I'll also be getting an upgrade at work, where it will be primarily used for productivity with Excel spreadsheets and I would have to worry less about screen burn in.

I used to play Battlefield games in 5760x1080, the width helps with peripheral vision. I got this monitor for gaming because it is super ultrawide. ......and also, because it is glossy.
