Absolute respect for the guy indeed. However, given the fact that he's ventured out and learned enough pertinent things in biology and chemistry to try and engineer a cure for his son's genetic disease, constraining his education level to that of being secondary school level and his lack of chemistry knowledge at the time of synthesizing said formula is incorrect. Learning and mastery isn't mutually exclusive with formal schooling, and you often consolidate the majority of your actual education through your work/career.

@@codguy12 1. I don't know whether you have child of your own or not. But for many parents, their child is not the same as mobile phone, refrigerator, sofa, or any other goods. Replacing with a new one is not that simple. No matter if you have more than 1 child, losing one will leave a scar that will give you pain for a very long time, if not for the rest of your life. That's why parents would do anything they could for their children. And for parents who even lost their children in the end, axtending their efforts to the furthest length when their child is still alive is never a waste. 2. I don't think he's being delusional (i'm not a native english speaker, so i may not understand it correctly, but from the context i guess it's safe if i assume the meaning is the same as the word 'delusional' that i understand), he works based on results from scientific research, not some oomba loomba spells. So, when this father learnt that principally there's treatment for this disease, i don't think to have hope is the same as being delusional. He's not trying to bring back a dead body to life. His son is still alive. 3. And let's remember, in case of treatment for disease, something incurable at the present might be curable some time in the future. For many cases, to change from that 'incurable' to 'curable' must gone through so many efforts. It may take not only one person's work, but series of many scientists or researchers works. @@codguy12 if the child lives he might grow up to continue expanding that technology and maybe creating something very useful.
To certain level, there's a treatment for this disease, so it's not incurable, it's just currently not accessible for some people. This is probably one of the most amazing accomplishments of a father for his child that I have ever read.
praying for his precious baby. as a single mom of 4. I'm praying that he gets the help he need or be healed from this.

This father is like a fiction character out into real life. I hope him and his family stay healthy and the medicine works out. I wish there's a miracle for the baby.
A father’s unconditional love and sacrifice for his kid. Hope his boy recovers fast and I’m very sure he will.
This hits so deep as a new parent myself. What an incredible father
Grats. I can't even imagine being in love let alone having offspring. Crazy how we all live these different lives and then die.
