@@TheShurimanPigeon I'm playing that challenge right now (by myself, not on TH-cam). Currently at the beginning of chapter 3. The Gaffgarion fight at the execution site required a couple of attempts. Managed to win by flying Ramza on top of the gallows with a black chocobo and sniping everyone from there with the Romanda Gun. The first attempt at that failed because Gaffgarion and an enemy knight had geomancy, so they were able to hit me from all the way down there.
Huh, I did not know that's how defend worked, that's pretty interesting. Just went on WotL and tested it with Reflex combined with a feather mantle, turns out literally every blockable move - be it physical or magical, from the front to the back - has a 0% chance to hit. Not all that useful since you can't act (you have to spend a turn defending) and plenty of moves are unblockable (holy, geomancy, characters with concentrate, etc.), but it's still a very funny little niche for the ability. Since it's completely bravery independent I could see this being useful for your move find item character; being unhittable while moving about the field looking for rare items could be useful!
Yeah it's super niche but I still say it's better than not having it lol I say. Like there are much better things but it is hard for me to say it's Trash lol or any support ability rather
Solid list, I would swap a few things. Right off the bat, beastmaster to situational since you said its function is based of having a monster in the party. Concentration to A, it’s on par with swiftness and helps when boosting allies brave/faith or lowering enemies stats and enfeebling them. It’s amazing paired with calculator where swiftness has no function. Also, unlike the attack boost options which become obsolete if you do a max stat run, concentrate will always add value by increasing the hit rates. I would put equip guns into situational as well because there are a few battles where you start at a range disadvantage and this can compensate for that.
Thank you and yeah that could be put into Situational. Well Concentration is purely for Physical Attack doesn't help Magic stuff. Perhaps if someone values its benefits of working around the evasion of Characters, shields and cloaks. As for Brave boosting nothing beats Ramza or Luso's Steel or Cheer Up. So with Calculator you might as well just go Arcane Strength or other things that can benefit you in other ways. I mean I guess I can see it sort of, but I still don't see the appeal in using guns on other jobs for the most part. Anything that can already equip guns will be better as you can boost its damage with Attack Boost or Arcane Strength for magic guns.
@@J7Jase was concentration always just for physical? I always thought it improved spells that had accuracy issues. I also thought it impacted steal, though that may have been me misremembering. If that were the case, situational would be where it belongs.
Good question Attack Boost. Doublehand doesn't increase Holy Sword damage but yeah you are right he does hit insanely hard in that battle for some odd reason lol
Another addition to Dual Wield and Brawler being high ranked is they increase chances to steal. I normally build a Ninja with Brawler and Steal for that reason.
If I recall I do mention that in the video Attack Boost and Brawler. The most optimal Thief is a Monk with Attack boost as they have that Brawler built in.
One odd thing about FFT is that there’s no “Equip Clothes” or “Equip Robe” skill. Like couldn’t they have given these abilities to a Black Mage or something? There’s “Equip Armor,” though.
tame is good if you dont quite have the damage to kill yet, it changes the monster to your side making the other enemies target the monster as well so your units are safe for a turn. its better than thiefs charm
I wouldn't call it a good support ability per say. It is just too niche or specific for me personally. Since my video is based mostly on versatility for the most part. But your comment isn't a bad strategy when you want to mess around
Double hand the defender with weapon guard and a feather mantle and it’s 0% to be hit from the front I think it’s 20% from side. Also decent magic evade with the mantle. I think it gives 40%
@@J7Jase the worst part of that whole combo is the fact you have to be knight because of knight sword requirements and doublehand being the support ability. Unless you have agrias do it.
@@cotymedeiros2153 It can do some damage though but yeah sadly good luck hitting things with shields and cloaks for the most part lol Unless you use Concentration as a support which the vid is ultimately about lol
I remembered PS1's description of Beastmaster (called Monster Skill back then) misleading me into thinking that it could work on an ally monster 3 tiles away from you lol overall, the skill is great, though wished the skill had the bonus range like I mistaken it had instead of the monster needing to be next to the unit with the skill in order for them to unlock their final skill. Heck, monsters have a lot going against them already vs human units. why not just give them their secret skill permanently? I've always wondered about Arcane Strength vs Equip Shield + Aegis Shield, which is stronger on my Iaido Black Mage? another thing I've always wondered is Shirihadori vs Concentration. Lol I remember that one good times. And yeah good point. The only real monster where maybe it would perhaps be left alone is the Tiamat's Dark Whisper lol. But yeah nearly everything else let them have it I say. Arcane Strength will be better than Equip Shield and Dual Wield for pure damage since it's like 33% ish. @@J7Jase thanks for the reply, and dang, I've been so laser focused on Aegis Shield's +1 MA, I completely forgot about Duel Wielding Rods instead lol Let's see...... for the PS1, the Wizard's Rod would be the best, totaling +4 MA with both on. While WotL offers the Crown Scepter, Duel Wielding two of them would be a whopping +8 MA grand total! I think the support abilities are really the staples of this games seemingly infinite customization. Support abilities have always felt like THE deciding factor in most character builds in this game, and really help you differentiate your characters from one another.
Equip Crossbow and guns, could be in situational. The ability to reach out and potentially break speed can make some fights significantly easier. Breaking wiegrafs speed in any fight can make him into a non issue.
I mean possibly if you want to consider it situational then by all means. I can see what you mean. Yeah you can break his stats that way. But if the objective is to outright KO I feel there are just better options lol. Like Two Swords with Speed Break will be better than Equip Guns or Crossbows as you can strike once more as well
@J7Jase that is true. But in the case of the first wiegraf fight. The crossbows can help you break his speed in the 1st round and is a lot easier to get going than grinding for ninja. A full team of gun users can easily delete the enemies, they do a set amount of damage, have great range, and will almost always hit. In chapter 2, at the gallows, they can easily get rid of gafgarion in 1 to 2 rounds ( depending on zodiac alignment). It really makes that map easy to beat. Sure, are there better strategies, yep but getting an avg of 150 damages a round on hard to hit tanks. Knights can be devastating.
@@axel8406 idk first fight just go Black Mage and bada boom and he is down in like two hits lol Even in Chapter 2 Black Mage does extremely well. But I guess if you want to "clip their wings" that works lol

If that is the case then Half MP's cost of 1000 JP should be considered based on what you are saying. Most support abilities can be unlocked relatively early as well.
