I do see some heritage from the 3rd gen on the rear side glass where the trunk is and the pillar behind the rear passengers doors still remains which makes the 4runner one of the few SUVs still design that way even the sequoia lost that back pillar giving it a more crossover look

    After watching a few different 2025 4runner videos I think I'm starting to understand this vehicle. I feel like a lot of people are complaining that it lacks certain features like support for 35-inch tires, removable top, stock height that seems low, no front locker, etc. But from Toyota's perspective, the last version is still selling so extremely well despite it being outdated with its engine, interior design, and external features this new model doesn't have to innovate that much to move units. Previous 4runner owners will see this and immediately appreciate the updates and new people will be more compelled to invest in the new platform with Toyota's quality. Let's face it, this 4Runner doesn't have to be the best at anything, it just needs to be upgraded over the previous gen to succeed.
    Toyota people will love this new vehicle and the Toyota haters are still going to throw shade no matter what.

      Honestly I would have preferred they just stuck better Tech and a transmission with more speeds in it, but left this with a V6 gas engine. The older model was near perfect. That’s all it needed. (I am a Toyota fan by the way. I’m just not liking that they’ve moved ALL of their trucks and SUVs to this platform. Some of us still want a proven gas engine. The change to this singular platform basically leaves us with only choices on trim levels and body style, but the performance piece is already decided for us. That’s a bummer Toyota.

    I'm happy with my 2023 4 RUNNER. I suspect to have it for many years, but I appreciate the aesthetic progression of this new design. Though, I am not a fan of the black covers above the wheels. I do wish some of the styling questions set it apart from the tacoma, but I understand the alignment for production. I bought my 4 Runner primarily for the v6 drivetrain. I will observe in the coming years how these new ones behave. Well done Toyota! I prefer the styling question of the Land Cruiser to this, but all of the new designs with the trucks are pretty stellar.

    I'm from Washington State. In 1983 I was just out of high school and my Uncle invited me to stay in Michigan. He owned (with other investors) Shush Mountain and Shanty Creek resorts there. I'll never forget his Jeep Grand Wagoneer! He let me drive it, and it had a 'car phone' in it, but even when I picked up friends, none of us could figure out how to make a phone call.

    I don’t understand the new marketing strategy. For decades the Land Cruiser was the over built luxury vehicle that could do it all. Overlandinf/off road included.
    The 4Runner was the reliable off-road capable utilitarian every day driver.
    Now it’s like Toyota is making the 4Runner the poster child for offroad driving and the LC as the daily grocery getter that is capable off road. Wouldn’t surprise me for the TRD pro 4Runner to be more than the LC

      I agree, I'm confused. Or I should say, I remain confused. As I expected, why would anyone buy the new so-called "Land Cruiser" when this is coming out right behind it? Styling on this new forerunner is way more distinctive and refined than the Landcruisers IMHO. And the engines are the same right? Size wise similar..

    • @carlosnunez8229
      @carlosnunez8229 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The confusion in the US happens because Toyota decided to sell the Prado as the Land Cruiser which, out of the US, they are very different cars. But the Prado and the 4runner have always been similar (over the same platform but Prado with the turbo diesel engine and worst looking body IMO)

    • @mikearend997

      The new Land Cruiser is in North America because people still wanted a Land Cruiser. However, that same Land Cruiser, is known as the Prado in the rest of the world, which has rough and tough off-road options as well, and the rest of the world does not get the 4Runner. Sorry to let you in on a secret, but the rest of the world has very challenging off-roading conditions as well. Be happy you are spoiled for options in the US as you are every manufacturer's biggest market - that's why you get both. The old LC was just too inefficient for today's world, so Toyota had to make a change in size.

I don't like to sleep above a lithium battery and it takes much useful spaces too. I have a Santa Fe XL at the moment, in which I removed the 2nd and 3rd row of seats. I have built a sub floor to make it perfectly flat. In that subfloor, we store our solar panels and many tools. Anyway, the Trailhunter trim is very interesting.
