  • Is the Suzuki Jimny the most OVERRATED car on the market in Australia today?
    You can be the judge after you watch this review, where I show you all the things that are bad about the 2023 Jimny 3-door model.
    I'll also fill you in on some of the good stuff - but this is NOT an off-road review, as you'll see if you watch the entire video. Don't expect any 4WD off-roading, no trails or tracks, or mud or rock crawling. That's not what this review is about.
    This review is designed to help you figure out if you could live with a Jimny as your only vehicle. Is it The Right Car? Let's find out...

    I went for a Jimny after owning "fast" subarus and motorcycles for years and realizing i am on track to lose my license. I've also wanted a 4WD for years. I love my grom and i think "big" cars are a bit excessive for most people so i went a jimny, I'm about 2 months into ownership and still love it every day it is my main car, but I dont have kids or mates that need rides.

      @@therightcar Bought my Jimny 3 years ago (13 month wait) as a temporary replacement for my 2007 Defender 90 Td5, so far the Jimny has been reliable, it's more economical than my Td5, more refined on the road and it's got all l need including aircon which my Defender didn't have. Still not made my mind up on the new Defender 90 though, Ineos looks good but only a 4 door.

    Had one for 12 months - auto. Best car I have ever had. You actually have to drive it unlike my previous corolla which had all the bells and whistles, but was boring because it practically drove itself. No complaints at all with the Jimny. I use it every day and have been off=road and camping with it. The auto does take a little time to get to 100 but once there it is easy to maintain without feeling as though you are thrashing the engine. I think reviewers are a little too critical and compare it to much more upper spec cars. Jimny doesn't pretend to have all the specs but it is an honest, reliable and fun car to drive. I usually have the back seats down. providing quite large storage. I occasionally have two passengers and for moderate trips the back seats are fine.

    The negatives? When it comes to the Jimny, nearly everything is a compromise except for it's off-road capability. As standard the Jimny is a 4x4 capable vehicle but by the time you have converted it into a capable 4x4 vehicle, you have spent up to a third of the original sales price in upgrades. Everything with the Jimny revolves around weight and everything you add to the Jimny adds weight - certainly the owners of 4x4 pickup-trucks have an easier life when it comes to overlanding compared to those in Jimnys.

    Lovely video and enjoyed it 😊. I got a top end automatic 5 door in India and I thing about it is, it’s a purpose built well engineered vehicle. It performs adequately on highways and adding a Throttle Controller just makes it so much better. Offroad is a different story, it’s a beast there, those are its own territory. The compact dimensions make it a great city vehicle and for tough trails as well. Overall very satisfied with the purchase and enjoying every bit of the IBEX. This one is definitely a keeper.

Still a 4-seater, but much bigger boot, and slightly longer wheel-base etc. etc. I hope to buy it for use at my parents' home that is in a remote village. Village roads. the “limiter” feature is a nice addition on top of cruise control. means you can set the speed limit and floor it and never get a ticket. unlike cruise control you can brake as much as you like - even come to a stop and then floor it again and it will hit the target speed again and keep the car at that speed.

    A bit off topic but I'm 81 & have had since new a 1998 Suzuki Jimny. Over 200,000 klm's with a fair bit of off roading & it still drives like the day I first drove it. That is except with a little hesitation in the auto change from 2nd to 3rd. Still all origional with nothing major components replaced except for normal repair items.

    If you buy the JB74 and don’t modify, you are letting the best in life pass you by.
    Lift kit, long range fuel tank, diff lock, hidden winch, weather shields, bonnet protector, compressor, larger wheels, extended diff breathers and you now have a mountain goat that will go where others don’t dare.
    But I’d say if you can only afford one modification then get get the long range fuel tank, the car is a fairly good 4wd without mods but the 40 litre fuel tank is pathetic.

    I've recently taken Jimny 2022 manual for test drive: ~30km, half motorway @110, half town @60. Fuel 6.3L/100km, exactly as specified. Still disappointedly high for 1.5L engine. I drive Hinda Jazz manual, same 1.5L engine and same weight ~1100kg, and use ~5.4L/100 on average, ~20% less! I wonder if it's all due to much higher Jimny''s drag? Also, noticeably less power in Jimny than Jazz felt easily on motorway. You can literary hear and feel Jimny's engine working its hardest at >100km.
    The dealership quoted $37,250 for brand new Ivory coloured 2023 manual model, which was ~$5k more than what I saw on the net., and 8-12 months wait. I suspect they are marking the price up cos of the demand. Does anyone have recent quotes for 2023 3 door manual?

    • @S9RUT
      @S9RUT ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because of the latest ANCAP Ratings are all about autonomous systems (which the Jimny doesn't really have - a great thing for most actual drivers) , and you need a centre airbag to achieve the 5th star. It still has around 80% driver protection which is quite good for a car of its size!

    • @justicebroker2271
      @justicebroker2271 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@S9RUT nah it’s because it has a poor safety cell structure. If you read the report the footwell deforms and the airbags don’t deploy properly providing inadequate protection for the driver. Read the report through, yes it would probably get another start for safety systems but it was tested a while ago.

    • @S9RUT
      @S9RUT ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As a motorcycle adventure rider, the Jimny has a shit load of space.!
    Shure, it lacks in some creature comforts, but it gives you pretty much everything you need in a well-priced, off road, 4WD and nothing more. You get a great bang for your buck.
    You never showed its off-road capabilities, which it excels at.
    It's built for off road adventures, and whilst it can still do the daily commute, is built for off road!

      They basically put a different shape box on top and a newer equally asthmatic motor and added >6k to the price, then dealers pumped the price up even further.
      It's basically a mini 79 series that actually works off road, and both Toyota and Suzuki should be ashamed they dare charge as much as they do for the products they're offering.
      I'm not a Jimny hater either, I had a stock 2009 and a heavily modified 2012 (which was practically unstoppable) and I absolutely loved them both, but they're just undercooked and overpriced.
