Wow, thanks for such a nice comment Bro! I am honoured that my channel is your first subscribtion! Hope you have seen the later videos… thanks and cheers 🍻
Neat video, appreciate taking the time to explain! might add one more thing, could be useful to some. With this gearbox, you can slot it in neutral at traffic signals, engage the hand brake and switch the vehicle off (if the wait time is higher). The vehicle will start from Neutral and you don't have to put it in 'P' or "Park' mode to get the engine started. Though I am not advocating using this method often, you can try it if you are stuck in really bad traffic and it becomes too bothersome to hold the vehicle on its brakes in 'D' mode.
This is exactly what I do on our Ignis AGS, whenever I see that the traffic signal timer is 60+ seconds, and obvo=iously in a traffic jam. There is no P mode in Ignis AGS gear stick
Wow!! I didn't know that our dearest Maruti 800 came in an Auto back then?!! Back in 1987 my father was lucky to be allotted one of the very first of this superb car, of course a manual. We all drove it for a long long while. Me and wifey are very happy with Ignis automatic Delta for 4+ years now.
Have driven 4x4 for almost 15 but yes but I have learnt a lot from your video! You have spent valuable time learning the right way to use each system. Cheers!!!
Your videos on Jimny are absolute best of all I have seen on TH-cam, I am surprised why you stopped making more videos. Please do make videos and thanks for all the effort
Thank you really for the encouragement, appreciate it 👍🏼. I try but it’s difficult to make videos regularly as it takes a lot of time and effort…. Will try harder 😊
After seeing your video i can now easily go to any showroom and take test drive of an Automatic car , you would have notice in all brand showrooms if you like to do test drive of any Automatic car , first thing the sales man will ask is do you have Automatic car already or you have experience in driving Automatic car , if you say no i have manual car then yo can see their looks some what they get scared , this question to any manual car owner will irritate, of course they can teach how to drive in a nutshell ,but videos like this in detail will make us prepared in that situation and we can strongly tell them this is how it works :) Thank you for the wonderful virtual hands on session..
You are absolutely right on the reactions and behavior of the AT car salesmen! I am so glad that you feel well equipped after watching the video - thank you for watching and commenting, cheers 👍
Thank you sir - I am so glad that you found it useful and yes that’s what life is about being happy 😃. Thank you for you compliments and best wishes, appreciate it 👍🏼 Where are you from? If I may ask..
Hi, I am from Philippines. I have been saving up for a jimny in the future. I have been watching your videos for weeks now. Thank you so much for the info. New subscriber here.
Sir, i am watching your vlogs after thes have been posted many months back, as only now I am thinking of going in for a Jimny. Your vlogs are excellent, very informative and the manner of explaining patiently is very useful. Thank you! It helps a lot of viewers like me. 🙏
Thank you for watching and your lovely compliments - really appreciate it 😊. You should go ahead with it - I wish you good luck with your Jimny, when you get it, Cheers 👍
The automatic transmission dipstick can be checked on the Jimny. The engine must be hot and running in park, and the dipstick is located near the firewall on the battery side. Just needs to be checked every service. I think the fluid is jws3309. If you're off roading and your left foot is getting hot, probably better to stop, and drive in low-range to reduce the pressure on the auto. The enemy to autos is heat.
Similar to a mitsubishi pajero fieldmaster, it has all the modes like P,R,N,D,2,L together with Overdrive just providing 5th gear unlike the jimny 4 gear only. in the beginning it was very hard for me to utilize but time passes like yours, wisdom arrives. This video is very helpful for any vehicle owner specially if they have the 4X4 version. these concepts are carriable to other vehicle.
Thanks you and that was the objective too! I was also wondering and struggling in the beginning and then things became clearer and I thought it’s best to share the wisdom 😊. Thanks for watching and sharing your feedback!
Thanks Mr. Babbar! Very insightful & informative video. I am upgrading from manual Nano to AT Jimny & was struggling to find right material online to know about AT. Just got hands on your video by chance & almost virtually got all information needed. Thanks a Million!
Dear Sir, 1. Best video explaining how to drive the automatic Jimny. 2. The fact is that Suzuki has not provided proper Product Training - Technical and Driving aspects to its sales persons. Thus they fail to provide proper information regarding Jimny to the potential buyers. 3. Infact it is us - the driving enthusiast who after viewing your videos go to the dealer and then while taking the test drive explain the same to the sales person who accompanies to the test drive. 4. As an auto enthusiast have driven Hatchbacks, Sedans, SUVs, Tractors and even Trucks thsu always eager to have knowledge. 5. Please also make a video about the transmission noise of Jimny automatic and manual - as the car is quite noisy during driving and particularly when accelerator pedal is pushed. At present I drive a 2011 model - Hyundai i10 1.2 lt manual hatchback which provides me a quite ride. I am planning to buy a Jimny and the only problem that I am facing during test ride is Notchy manual gearbox, hard clutch which can be managed but a very noisy cabin which disturbs the rise quality. Thanks and Regards Prashant
Once again a great production. Some years ago it was NEVER tow an automatic car and I can vouch for that. Please check about the Jimny. Very important.
Thanks a lot, appreciate the compliments!! You have a valid point about towing automatic cars - the Jimny can be towed with the rear wheels off ground, gear in P and engine on, as per the owner manual, thanks for engaging. cheers, 👍
Very good explation on the Jimny automatisch Transmission. The best i have seen so far! Subscribed right at once! Best Regards from a German in Bolivia!
Excellent informative video. I did test drive the Jimny AT & MT. The Nexa sales teams are not aware that 4WD should only be engaged on slippery roads. Nexa sales team have been told in their briefings that it’s safe to engage 4WD while you are driving upto 100 kmph. 😮 I did read that there is a way to engage 2L (rwd) only by installing an additional switch with wires which does not allow the sensor in the transfer case to engage the front differential in 4WD mode. In old Gypsy’s with free wheeling manual hubs in ‘free’ position, 2L was easy to engage. I used this 2L mode a lot in my 1986 Gypsy . Do consider a video on ‘Running In’ a new engine.
Thank you for the compliments and also sharing your wonderful experience and knowledge on the Manual Hubs, appreciate it! On the practical side, i don't see a scenario that would require 2L specifically, what with 4WD available on demand! I also think that today's new "off-roader" neither has the patience nor the appreciation for old world tech, unfortunately! You are right that the Nexa folks are not completely on top of the features but they are partially right on the 4WD engagement, the 4H can be engaged on the fly, when your speeds are UNDER 100 kmph as per the owner's manual, but 4L engagement is strictly on a stationary vehicle in Neutral. Thanks for requesting, i have actually already done a video on running in, here is the link: th-cam.com/video/mLnApi1oAPA/w-d-xo.html Have you subscribed to my channel and pressed the bell icon, if you do you will get new video updates automatically, more videos coming soon! Thanks again and cheers 👍
@@handsonwithbabbar I use the 2L when I need to crawl at very low speed on non slippery road surface, dry bumpy fields, very badly surfaced roads where in 2H, 1st gear at around 2000+ rpm is too fast to drive. In your video at 12.35 seconds you correctly quote Maruti "You should not use 4H or 4L on normal road unless they are slippery (dry dirt road is not considered slippery), it can damage the 4wd system". You must have noticed on the roads in 4H or 4L you cannot do a sharp turn or U turn, the Gypsy/Jimny feels as though the brakes are being applied progressively as you go into the turn. To avoid this problem in the Gypsy/Jimny while using the lower gearing (L) of transfer case on non slippery roads, the free wheeling hubs in early version of the Gypsy would be kept in 'Free' position. Another advantage of the 'free wheeling hubs' in the early Gypsy was in 2H the front differential was not engaged. Maruti did away with the Free wheeling hubs when they realised that majority of gypsy owners did not know about the 'free wheeling hubs' since they had not read the Owners manual.
I am so happy to hear that you saw this video when you really needed it, nothing can be better! Hope you are enjoying the automatic, I know I am!! Thanks and cheers😊
Great job, sir. Class video. Not a single so called Car reviewer & Nexa Sales Team has explained about Jimny future & engineering in details. Thanks a lot. Enjoyed.🎉 easy to understand language Just bought Jimny Alpha AT.
Wow!! This video is one of the most useful so far on India's Jimny 4x4 gear stick operation and complexities. Thank you so so much, Babbar ji. I'm seriously considering buying a Jimny Zeta Automatic for myself .. and this video has helped me clear many of my doubts and apprehensions. I've already driven Maruti's AGS for 4+ years in my wife's Ignis automatic.. so I'm aware of AGS functionalities in a small car. But this is completely a different Automatic system and gear box altogether. Babbar you have explained the fine nuances too, which are key to stress free use of the gear shift stick. The fact that one can navigate down from R to N to D without pressing the release button; and similarly back from D to N only. This is so subtle and important. Now I know that one will engage the 4x4 (whether L or H) only in required situations in off roading, and rarely in normal tarmac roads. Shift lock matter too well explained. Hv subscribed! I will surely try your other videos.
Thank you 😀, I am delighted that you found the video useful - thank you for the sub and sharing your detailed feedback, appreciate it! Keep watching, good luck 👍🏻
Thanks for your awesome video. I had decided to buy the Jimny automatic and was checking out the videos and your video showed up at the top. I am sure, the youtube algorithm is working in your favor. This is the best video on the Jimny automatic transmission and I am binge watching your other videos too. Sir, I have never driven an automatic till date and Jimny will be my first automatic. A noob question. Please tell me in which gear modes can one start the Jimny. P (parking) mode is one I know for sure while starting and I also read somewhere down in this comments section that one could start the Jimny Automatic in N ( Neutral) while switching off at traffic signals. I take it that the Jimny can be started only in P & N mode and not in any other mode. Your comments please.
This is a truly beautiful video that everybody needs to watch. Simple and very effective from a user's point of view. Do keep making such videos so that v can understand all aspects of owning and using a Jimny.
Thank you for your kind compliments, appreciate it! It’s my first automatic, so wanted to get to know abou it as much as possible and the I learnt a few interesting things along the way and sharing them with like minded folks made most sense - I am so glad that you benefitted from it! Cheers and good luck 👍🏽
@@handsonwithbabbar Spresso was my first automatic and I love the car. Its almost like a mini Jimny. So easy to drive it anywhere I stopped using the Maruti Swift Dzire I had. Lemme see if I can get a Jimny in 2024
Very useful information especially the gear shifting technique from R to N and D. Indeed this fantastic engineering with buttons and all those useful features in gear has made automatic more better and fun in all aspects
Glad it was helpful! Thank you so much for your compliments, i am so glad that folks like you and so many others are deriving value from these videos and its not just entertainment, Cheers 😊
What a great video👌👌👌. Kudos to you for coming up with so informative video which pretty much covers every aspect that any jimny owner would now be able to easily toggle between gears and levers👏👏👏
What a neat and crisp explanation. Thanks you so much. Can you please explain what you do in traffic signal? Leave it in drive and keep your foot on the brake and let the idle start stop feature work? Or do you suggest any other way.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! 😊 I am not a big fan of the start stop feature and i turn it off, when i begin driving, almost everytime, mainly because it cuts off the aircon compressor and since i have got the Jimny, the weather has been hot and humid. I personally, keep my foot on the brake, which i how its meant to be or if the halt is longer than expected and i need to rest my foot, I use the handbrake that while might not be the recommended method, works as effectively. Hope that helps, Cheers 👍
Really helpful video with regard to 4x4 .Better explained than any other Moto bloggers. Thank you very much Ritesh ji. Great video . Waiting eagerly for more videos
I am not sure if we can or should change gears when on move, in an automatic Jimny ! I haven’t tried and I haven’t had the need to do that! So short answer, don’t know yet! When you are in 4H or 4L you can drive in any gear D, 2 or L - which one will depend on where or on what terrain, gradient or road condition, you are driving in! Hope that helps, cheers 👍🏽.
Thank you for watching and for your comments! I am on OEM / Stock tyres, my Jimny has run 12k approx and 3 services with one engine oil change (16w0) done, I maintain 30 psi. I consistent get 12.5-12.7 KPL in city driving, about 14 on Highways and 9.5-9.7 - on Uphill / off road - Mine is an Alpha auto, I normally drive alone and my AC remains on all the time. Hope this helps. Do let me know the mileage figures you are getting, Cheers 👍
Thanks for sharing your feedback! I unfortunately don’t have access to a a MT Jimny, will certainly do a a review when I have access, enjoy the AT videos until then, 😊cheers!
Very nicely explained videos from you indeed sir. One request from you is to pleas share as to how to increase ease of travel in the rear which seemed to me quite uncomfortable. thank you
Thank you so much for you compliments😊 Do you already own a Jimny? The rear seat is smaller than average but not that bad if you are an average sized body build - we just did a 3300 km trip in 8 days - a family of 4. It wasn't luxurious but it wasn't uncomfortable either - Hope that helps 👍
thank you...one question...so ideally when you engage 4×4 should you drive at L or D .... talking about really uphill road and bad roads like here in Darjeeling...thanks..
You are welcome 😊. As regards your query, if you are in a situation where you need to get into 4WD, the logical sequence is something like this, depending on your need at that moment: Shift to 4H and in D, then to 2 and then to L, if that doesn’t help then slot it into 4L and in D and then to 2 and then L if required. You will have the max power and torque at 4L / L. You can of course jump steps depending on what you feel will be most appropriate at that time and a lot of it will come from experience, once you have been in a few of these situations and once you understand the capabilities of your Jimny. Hope that helps 👍🏽
Beautiful content.. loved the way you nicely explained all that hidden features which I ended explaining to the nexa Sales guy.. 😂 sharing this further with Nexa Goa team !!! And ofcourse booking my jimny alpha auto today . Thanks once again for the time you put in ❤
Very informative video, Explaining AT with 4x4 ❤, Just one question if you have seen those videos from Himachal this year 2024 where there was a traffic jam and lots of cars clutch plates burning , How the AT in L gear helps if we might require a half clutch just to get the momentum 😊
Thanks for your comments and for watching 😊. That is infact the beauty of AT, you wouldn't feel the need of the half clutch - An AT doesn't stall unlike the manual. hope that helps, cheers 👍
Thanks for the detailed video. Can you also make a video on Auto on/off feature on Jimny. Its very annoying as while shifting the gears, its turn on and off by itself
It’s really an useless feature, badly configured in the Jimny, I’ve crossed 15k km in the Ibex and I haven’t found it useful even once! I had infact invented a hack on how to remember to disable it every time you start your car in this video: th-cam.com/video/YyvSSOHYQt8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=TKpfgeQYjaMFQPwb Good luck 👍🏼

1st gear on the auto has a ratio of 2.875 where as first on the manual has a ratio of 4.425.
This means for every rotation of the output shaft of the transmission, the input would need to spin 2.875 times on the auto or 4.425 times on the manual.

So peak torque on the jimny auto is 130Nm X 2.875 which is 373Nm, on manual that peak torque is 575Nm
3rd on the auto is the nearly the same as 5th on the manual.
Both have a ratio of 1, only difference would be the diff ratio.

Excellent Video, you are the First Channel I have subscribed to in youtube. Very crisp presentation, to the point and great narration. Keep up the good work and post many more informative videos. Siraj
Wow, thanks for such a nice comment Bro! I am honoured that my channel is your first subscribtion! Hope you have seen the later videos… thanks and cheers 🍻
One of the best videos on Jimny AT. Perhaps the only video needed on the transmission....
Thank you for watching and for your kind comments - I am glad you found it useful, cheers👍
@@handsonwithbabbar Sir it's one of the videos that helped me decide.... Got an Alpha AT for myself 🙏
Makes sense, thanks for sharing this tip 😊
This is exactly what I do on our Ignis AGS, whenever I see that the traffic signal timer is 60+ seconds, and obvo=iously in a traffic jam. There is no P mode in Ignis AGS gear stick
Sir I am using a 35 year old maruti 800 Automatic till date. It's amazing.
Wow! That is great sir, I didn’t even know that Maruti had introduced automatics back then 🤩. Congratulations on your unique car 🚗
I am sure there was no automatic M800.
Google will clear your doubt.@@ganeshram863
Have driven 4x4 for almost 15 but yes but I have learnt a lot from your video! You have spent valuable time learning the right way to use each system. Cheers!!!
Thanks so much for sharing! This is such a satisfying comment - many thanks again and cheers 😊
Excellent content, sir! Really helpful. Keep your heart and mind happy!
Thank you sir - I am so glad that you found it useful and yes that’s what life is about being happy 😃.
Thank you for you compliments and best wishes, appreciate it 👍🏼
Where are you from? If I may ask..
@@handsonwithbabbar Kudos from Panama, brotha!
Hi, I am from Philippines. I have been saving up for a jimny in the future. I have been watching your videos for weeks now. Thank you so much for the info. New subscriber here.
Hello Po! Thank you so much for subscribing, really appreciate it! I hope you get your own Jimny soon, Good luck and cheers 👍
Thanks for sharing about the AT dipstick, will check it out - I wasn't aware. Cheers 👍
I am elated to hear that my video was useful and well timed for you! Congrats and good luck with your Jimny 😊
Very informative and detailed video. Thanks.
Very well shot and edited video. Kudos !!!
Thank you so much for your wonderful comments, appreciate it 😊. I will pass on your compliments to the editor as well, cheers 👍
The BEST, explanation about 4x4 coupled with AT , i have gone through. Thank you very much sir.
You are very welcome! Thanks so much for your compliments, appreciate it 😊. Hope you have seen the other videos on my channel, Cheers 👍
A wonderful video explaining the AT.. though I’ve driven AT in the US for 15+ yrs .. still an interesting video. Very well done
Awesome, thank you! If YOU found the video useful, even after driving AT for so many years, that's a huge compliment, thanks for sharing. Cheers 😊
Dear Sir,
Thanks and Regards
Prashant
I have subscribed sir. I love your video and your encouragement at the end of the video.
Welcome aboard! Really appreciate your compliments, cheers.
Thank you very much Martin! Namaste from India.
Appreciate your comments and your candid feedback, I am so glad you like it. Cheers 🍻
Thankyou so very much, you have answered all my questions, happy driving 🙏
Always welcome, i am so glad that you found the video so useful 😊. Thank you.
Excellent informative video. I did test drive the Jimny AT & MT. The Nexa sales teams are not aware that 4WD should only be engaged on slippery roads. Nexa sales team have been told in their briefings that it’s safe to engage 4WD while you are driving upto 100 kmph. 😮
I did read that there is a way to engage 2L (rwd) only by installing an additional switch with wires which does not allow the sensor in the transfer case to engage the front differential in 4WD mode.
Thanks for requesting, i have actually already done a video on running in, here is the link: th-cam.com/video/mLnApi1oAPA/w-d-xo.html
Have you subscribed to my channel and pressed the bell icon, if you do you will get new video updates automatically, more videos coming soon!
Great video!! really useful information that cannot be found easily!

Awesome video again. Subtle details explained which others miss. The presentation is also so engaging. Really loved it. Keep it up 👍.
Thank you so much for your generous comments! I am so glad that you found it useful and enjoyed it too, cheers 😃

What a great video👌👌👌. Kudos to you for coming up with so informative video which pretty much covers every aspect that any jimny owner would now be able to easily toggle between gears and levers👏👏👏
Thank you for watching and your lovely comments.
I feel elated when folks like you tell me that they found the video useful. Cheers 👍
Very informative video sir.....appreciate your knowledge......Thank you.
What a neat and crisp explanation. Thanks you so much. Can you please explain what you do in traffic signal? Leave it in drive and keep your foot on the brake and let the idle start stop feature work? Or do you suggest any other way.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! 😊
I am not a big fan of the start stop feature and i turn it off, when i begin driving, almost everytime, mainly because it cuts off the aircon compressor and since i have got the Jimny, the weather has been hot and humid.
I personally, keep my foot on the brake, which i how its meant to be or if the halt is longer than expected and i need to rest my foot, I use the handbrake that while might not be the recommended method, works as effectively. Hope that helps, Cheers 👍
Wonderful analysis Ritesh - Thank you🎉

Can we change from D to 2 or L on the move?
Can we drive in D mode wen in 4 H or should we put in 2 or L?
I am not sure if we can or should change gears when on move, in an automatic Jimny ! I haven’t tried and I haven’t had the need to do that! So short answer, don’t know yet!
When you are in 4H or 4L you can drive in any gear D, 2 or L - which one will
depend on where or on what terrain, gradient or road condition, you are driving in! Hope that helps, cheers 👍🏽.
Very technical....beautifully simplified....
Thank you! Truly appreciate your wonderful compliment - keep watching, Cheers👍
very informative and inspiring simple yet well put video

Very useful video.. could you pls provide information about the real mileage in good road and off road for AT Jimney..Thank you
Thank you for watching and for your comments!
Please review the manual transmission also sir

Very nicely explained videos from you indeed sir. One request from you is to pleas share as to how to increase ease of travel in the rear which seemed to me quite uncomfortable. thank you
Thank you so much for you compliments😊
Do you already own a Jimny?
The rear seat is smaller than average but not that bad if you are an average sized body build - we just did a 3300 km trip in 8 days - a family of 4.
It wasn't luxurious but it wasn't uncomfortable either - Hope that helps 👍
@@handsonwithbabbar thank you sir. I do not own one yet.

Great and very informative video😀👍🙌
Thank you so much, really appreciate your compliments and feedback, cheers 👍🏼
Very good information, this is the perfect demonstration ❤
Thank you 😊
thank you...one question...so ideally when you engage 4×4 should you drive at L or D ....
talking about really uphill road and bad roads like here in Darjeeling...thanks..
You are welcome 😊.
As regards your query, if you are in a situation where you need to get into 4WD, the logical sequence is something like this, depending on your need at that moment:
Shift to 4H and in D, then to 2 and then to L, if that doesn’t help then slot it into 4L and in D and then to 2 and then L if required. You will have the max power and torque at 4L / L. You can of course jump steps depending on what you feel will be most appropriate at that time and a lot of it will come from experience, once you have been in a few of these situations and once you understand the capabilities of your Jimny. Hope that helps 👍🏽
Thanks a lot for this, it made me more compelling to go for Automatic transmission.
You are very welcome! It's a good decision to go for the Automatic, you will enjoy it, all the best 👍
Great video !. Thank you.

@@handsonwithbabbar Thanks

@handsonwithbabbar ok. I thought you were the son of Col Babbar from Dogra Regt.
I had infact invented a hack on how to remember to disable it every time you start your car in this video: th-cam.com/video/YyvSSOHYQt8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=TKpfgeQYjaMFQPwb
Good luck 👍🏼
Fantastic way of explaining Sir. As a jimny owner all my doubts are clear thank you.
