I own both and everything you guys said is true. Great review. The biggest deciding factor for getting the m240 over the m2 if you’re not going to track it is gas mileage. If you do more city driving, care about mpg and want to save $10-$12k buy the m240. If you track your car or do a lot of highway pulls and are ok with 10 less mpg get the m2. Or just buy both like I did. Love both of the cars. Both are so well rounded.
Interesting to read the 240i is recommended for fuel efficiency. The 240i is AWD and both have similar weight. I didn’t think 240i consumes fuel less. Have you checked the fuel efficiency when it’s rainning or on snow.
Great concept for a video. An owner always knows their car better than a reviewer, so very interesting hearing the comments. BTW The carbon bucket seats are Merino leather if you spec them for the M2
If you want a stick shift, well you only have the M2, and that’s why I got the M2, I test drove the hell out of both, the M2 too me felt better and the manual transmission was icing on the cake
I think the m240i has some advantages like for instance, it being awd. The power difference is quite noticable but you can easily tune the m240i to have m2 levels of power. Still the m240i is a great daily driver and fast enough in stock form.
Positives for the 2022 m240i; gas mileage, 360 cameras, drive recorder and has the previous cluster, screen and button set up which I prefer. Aside from that, M2 for the win. I’m sure I’d get used to the single large screen as well
I really like your video! How you and your friends simply appreciate how different car differs from one another is just amazing. It's not about if it's electric, hyprid, cheap, expensive, etc . Just how engineers or the manufacturer is targeting at makes a car unique. I currently have a golf 7.5 for daily and a G87 M2 for my weekend car. I live in a big crowded city and would say M2 is not really a car that you would do daily with if you are in the same traffic condition. Everytime when I switched to comfort mode, there is just a weird sound from the engine indicating that "M2 is not happy about it!!!" 😂
Nope, it's not perfect. I'll make a video on the dislikes eventually.. but right off hand, the mpg isn't great, tank is small, and ride is on the stiffer side. Nothing is perfect, but it's pretty damn good, that's for sure.
@@JVette01 Your totally right. I complain about this car quite alot. But when I'm actually driving it, I just cannot stop smiling, not mentioning I really enjoy the driving experience.
If you’re going to buy the M2, check with your insurance first, I’m an excellent driver, never had a speeding ticket, no accidents, good credit, and when I shopped for insurance on the M2 about half of the insurance companies were giving me absurd quotes for insurance. There were 2 that were what I would deem as normal, the rest were absurd, including my own insurance company. Just a warning, if you aren’t the perfect driver like me, or you’re a younger guy in your 20’s, check your insurance cost first because there’s a good chance you pay almost as much as you pay for the car in insurance.
I have the M2 so it’s unfair for me to comment on the M240i but I couldn’t think of a car that does it all as much as the M2. It is a lot extra but you are so close to the top, why not get it :P
For a do-it-all daily, I prefer the B58 (sound and characteristics) and Xdrive. The B58 cars ride quality is a lot more compliant on imperfect roads day to day as well. Weekend fun/ track toy and or roll racer M2/S58, especially modded is the way to go imo! I do also prefer the looks of the M2 over the M240i. There's the "cool" factor as well, if one cares about that. I'd imagine the M2 has better resale value too. I don't know if you've driven the M4, but the M2 paddle response looks way faster than the M4 comp ive driven, even in its fastest setting. A bit off topic, but the 2023 M5 non comp is the best BMW ive driven, no question. Its quite large, and doesnt hold value very well, but so satisfying! I recommend you test drive one
I did get to drive a tuned F90 M5 comp (vid coming eventually racing my m2) but I haven't got to fully experience one and drive it for an extended drive.
The truth is that for 99% of people the M240i is more than enough for daily driving including spirited drives. I have a 24’ M240i and have contemplated making the jump to the M2. But for what, really? I don’t track my cars and the M2 insurance and gas cost is meaningful.
nice vid, the m2 is only like 13k more than a m240. i know thats not insignificant but you're better off saving up and trying to stretch the G87. its worth it
I was responding to his comment when he said you're better of saving up or stretching to get the M2... I said it's an excellent choice for those that can't afford it/don't want to stretch.. I'm the last person to brag lol
Nice comparison. We can read your speedo at 3:44 and I believe you were speeding way more than the limit. I would hide the speedo part before uploading the video.
S58 is more raw or a bit more raspy sounding exhaust than the b58. The b58 howls more. You do the same mods to both cars and the s58 will make 200hp more than the b58 with downpipe, intakes, and e50, the s58 is better if you want to keep the turbo stock, when you go big turbo and built engine, things change dramatically, then the B58 gets the advantage....

How did you get the m dash on the m240i?

Great video! We drove both and went M2 for the manual and all its features. Coming from other M's and AMG's, gotta go all out!

Nice M2!
I have an M240i and wondering how did you get the M Style Gauge Colors? Is that a retrofit?
I felt the outcome of these races was very close to what I expected would happen! very good info for us to see.

This one is rwd.. and you can tune the m240 but it won’t be close to an s58 if it’s still on 91/93. It has to have an e blend to be in the ballpark.

@1iamwhale It's a brilliant drivers car that has some drawbacks if used as a daily driver, and I can't wait for that video to drop lol

My insurance premium nearly doubled when I switched from the VW GTI to the M240i, even as a senior. I can only imagine what it would be for the M2.
It's on the pricier side, but its not terrible

@ms3ben If the M240i has a lot better ride than the M2, that's crazy because the ride is brittle and bouncy in my M240i xdrive in comfort mode!!

If you already bought it I’d just stick with it until bmw comes out with a new m2 or x drive one
Great review….thanks. I do wish the M2 had the surround cameras and lane centering function.

The only reason i needed to get a true M, is the manual transm

Yes 😂

Do either of these vehicles come with HUD?
M2 has it optional
Yes, I have it in my 2023 M240i xdrive. Same as the M2, it’s optional.
