I just bought a 2024 M240i as a daily user and it is exactly what I need. When I want to relax it's chilled out and civilized. When I feel like having some fun all the power is there for you. It's understated but people who know cars understand what a beast it is.
Sold my OG LCI a year ago and have regretted it every day. Going to look at a G87 today but 90% sure I will get an F87 M2C. It is indeed special and one of the best cars BMW have ever made.
The whole point of the 240i is that it's a sleeper I have the m140i if I take the badge off you can't tell the difference from any other one series but under the bonnet is an absolute beast that's what I love about it. Giving the driver next to me the shock of his life😂. The M2 is built differently from the ground up from it's suspension components to the subframe are all connected directly to the chassis unlike the m240i which has bushings connecting it to the chassis giving it a more softer ride. For a M car BMW should have given it s55. Instead of the variants n55b30to.
@@koifnen this guy's talking about the M2 is special they don't make the m140i anymore the only hatchback with the b58 future classic I would consider that special not the M2
Good video. I have an m240i rwd manual and was going to upgrade to an m2 comp but was really disappointed on the test drive. The m2 was just too crashy and fidgety on the crap UK roads. I needed the comfort / refinement of the m240i but have had to put an LSD, shocks, springs and bushes to make it handle the power properly. The mods haven’t impacted the comfort and for how I use it it’s the better car. Test drive both is what I’d say but if you do get an m240i it really does need handling mods so budget for that. If you can handle the ride go for the m2. Agree with you totally on looks, m2 looks so much better.
as an owner of an m240i in Connecticut, I love it but it always leaves more to be desired. B58 is one of the best engines ever made but without the wide body and poor tire fitment, the M240i is just one of the best handling gt car but not sports cars. M2 competition might be the sweet spot in the bmw lineup but the Mercedes 4.0 is distracting. Regardless the 240i is such a great car
Connecticut here also. The issue when I had my m240i definitely was that I was always looking towards that next step up. Wheel shopping for that car was also a pain. The options are so limited on wheels and tires
I’ve owned a m140i(kinda similar to the m240i) and sold it for the OG m2 with m performance exhaust and i can tell you the m2 beats it in every way except comfort:p😅
Yeah it handles better and looks better but that it. M140i mpg blows out of the water, tunability not even close, BMW gave a better engine and transmission to m140i than it's entry level M car 😂 BMW didn't even bother giving it a s engines except cs 😂
M2 all the way! Not the fastest but the sound, the feel of the drive, the rear fenders.. It's not a line item on a spec sheet but if it was it'd be worth $$$
Both cars came with CarPlay from 2017 onwards(not sure if it’s from just 2017 or late 2016). My M240i had it and it worked great but both my M2s have been 2016 so I missed out.
I have a video on the M240i’s 2 year costs, and a video on a major service on the M2 to give you an idea of some specific numbers. but overall about the same honestly. Basic services cost about the same on both cars. Transmission fluid/filter service is cheap on the manual but expensive on the ZF8, and even more expensive on the DCT. Spark plugs were about the same. I’ve had a few freak-issues on the M2 that cost some money to repair but it’s really not that bad. Overall as long as nothing major breaks, they’re about the same to maintain. Insurance was also a little cheaper on my M2 oddly enough. I’d go out on a limb and say in general most BMWs after 2015 are reliable enough that all they really need is basic maintenance, and the costs for specific services are fairly similar across similar models.
The speed of the DCT or even the ZF8 are crazy! Even the new M2s have the ZF8 and they shift pretty much just as fast as the DCT. I will say the kick of the DCT is the one thing I miss from my previous M2.
M240i b58 the OG m2 old N55 the b58 dyno stock figures are around 360 bhp higher then what bmw states, the b58 is faster then n55 even stock the 240i would smoke OG m2 however the m2 comp is a different story, plus manual is absolute garbage in these cars
Nah I went og m2 and it was boring coming from a built m140i, with lsd, coilover, polybushes and hybrid turboes. The best way to go is the m2 comp. Looks better plus a better engine. However, im running 550bhp on pump and I still get 48mpg on the daily. So Its gonna be a keeper

Of course it matters ! I had both cars too and the m2 was way more problematic then the m240 ,and yes the b58 is way better and more reliable, also more tuneable.. i’m sorry but at the end you just contradicted yourself by saying that it’s more special because it turns heads lol when you buy a car, you have to buy a car that has the reliability and the potential performance .. there was nothing special about the m2 it’s mostly psychological

I got an M2 because I didnt want to be in a 240i wishing I had an M2

Thanks for the video! Thinking about picking up one of those. One mundane question though, have any of them had CarPlay in those years yet?

Only thing the m240i was classed as a performance coupe by bmw. Likewise with an m140i being a performance hatch.
My OG M2 puts down 537whp and it's a blast but I do love the B58!
