    BIG thumbs up! I've been flying about 2.5 yrs (season permitting) & this uncut video is very informative to know what steps it takes to get to have a great flight. Thanks!

    Just received mine from fms, took 2 weeks, now it snowed, I'll probably use the float as skis. Seen others do it could be fun while ice fishing here in Wisconsin

    Have been flying my PA-18 for about a week now, several hundred take-offs and landings. LOVE this airplane. No idea how it is on wheels and do not care. I am using a 3600ma battery, somewhat larger than 'recommended'. It handles it perfectly and adds some nice run out distance on landings. Plane handles exactly as a cub on floats should handle. Is well built and well engineered.
    Already have ordered a backup airplane in case they ever stop building this gem, like happened to the ParkZone Icon. Fly it on calm water with little or no breeze, as float planes are meant to be flown. ONE thing that needs changed, is the water rudder, which is stationary...does not flip up. Order an E-flite water rudder. The rudder portion WILL fit the FMS mount, and allow the rudder to flip up on take-off and landings.
    Throw out the tension spring it comes with, and make it loose, so it flips up as soon as the airplane is on plane. This will save you from wild ground loops etc, just as in full size. GREAT airplane on floats. Do not hesitate to buy one.

      I have the turbo timber evolution and am considering buying this one! Just curious, do you have any idea of how it compares to the tte? I’m sure they are a lot alike. I like stol planes and Do love to Hover as well! I’m not sure how this cub would do at Hovering though.

      RCINFORMER yea could see it getting pushed around a bit-I always find floats on a plane make it even more challenging in the wind-i recently took a Dynam beaver up to Rarotonga to fly off the lagoon and yep was sure catching the wind with those floats on. Look forward to your next video as always-that’s when I’ll likely email my friend at FMS And order one lol. You are a great ambassador for their brand👍

      RCINFORMER I took a month long road trip with my ez v3 to the Mississippi River and back from Seattle last summer- found out the plains aren’t as good as the west for lakes never really thought about b4
      Minnesota and then dries up
      Lake Mc Conaly in Nebraska was fun
      Jackson Lake WY was tremendous but a little regulated for me- won’t go back . When I get out in my canoe with my cat and my floatplane it is heaven

  • @oooMELTONooo
    @oooMELTONooo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    When adding flaps, try reducing to the throttle slightly. This will allow for the increase in lift produced by the flaps to be offset by the decrease in thrust.

      You would be better off getting advice on Google for center of gravity then to worry about the weight of your plane besides this answer is ridiculous a half a pound discrepancy in total weight that is being said here is the difference between a successful flight and a very very successful crash which this will be again a half a pound difference is not the right answer

  • @AndyRial

    Rich did you separate the rudder from the water rudder?

    • @RCINFORMER
      @RCINFORMER  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes!

    • @AndyRial
      @AndyRial 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So it doesn’t move with the rudder stick?

    • @RCINFORMER
      @RCINFORMER  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AndyRial No, Both servos should move together with the rudder stick but you should be able to trim them independently. What you wanna do is remove the Y harness from the rudder servo and the water rudder servo to separate those servos. Then plug the rudder servo for the airplane into the rudder channel and then plug the water rudder servo directly into one of the auxiliary channels ( You will probably need a servo extension for this). Then you need to assign the auxiliary channel to the knob and make sure it is moving in the proper direction, right for right, left or by using the servo reverse menu. Then you need to create a mix where the master is the rudder and the slave channel is the water rudder (This is how you electronically mix them together). Within the mixing menu, you need to adjust the plus or minus direction on the right side of the mix To make sure that the water rudder moves in the same direction as the airplanes rudder. The rudder stick should now control both the rudder and the water rudder together and you can now trim the rudder with the rudder trim and you can trim the water rudder with the knob:)

    Slow down a little before you lower the flaps. You won't need as much mixing.

    • @RCINFORMER
      @RCINFORMER  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that's why I said its "speed dependant" .... it just hard to get it tuned more precisely with so much wind and turbulence:)

  • @MsKeileigh
    @MsKeileigh ปีที่แล้ว

    It's funny how some people like to talk and make a big deal of things as if they know a lot but in reality not a professional would have had all that worked out before even taking off for the first flight the center of gravity flapping rudders testing all that you do that before you leave the ground what if something went wrong and you crashed into someone anyways

  • @jalbert222

    Hate to be negative, but when you test float planes in wind, it offers no help to us. I am a float flyer for 25 years. About 150,000 take offs. Float flying is all about the grace and beauty of landings, and flying in the wind is like water skiing on choppy water.
    You can do it, but it is no fun. Would like to see you test these planes on calm glassy water. Also, why would anyone use flaps
    to take off on floats? Never met a cub yet that has needs flaps on water. The long take off and landing run outs are what it is all about. The airbatic capabilities are silly. Floats planes are not about rolls and loops lol.

    • @RCINFORMER
      @RCINFORMER  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, I would love to always have calm glassy water to fly in, but mother nature does not always get the memo...lol... if you could direct me to Utopia where the weather is always perfect for flying, I will be the first to move there:) We are not fare weather flyers:) We fly when we can and cant always have a calm wx to fly in. If the plane will handle this weather, it can certainly handle calm winds:) I hope this puts it into perspective!
