Yes Bubba's back Lol What a fab Super Cub!! Love the way it looks and some very scale STOL action!! Fantastic video Adam and Heidi Ooh and of course Bubba 😄👍
Adam you and Heidi are doing a great job on the videos! Great information and entertaining. The Cub came out awesome and looks so scale! I will definitely check out Maule Guy's channel. I love the backcountry flying stuff!😎👍
Very nice representation of Mauleguy's plane both in flight characteristics and appearance! How did you mask the leading edge on the underside of the wings? I've always had trouble with the base coat pulling off.
Its painstaking, but we used 3 x 5 post it notes. The only thing we could find that wasn't to sticky. You have to be careful the angle you spray the paint from when you use them. Funny thing is when we land on gravel that chips paint off the underside of the fuse and the horizontal every time...always touching it up. Too much fun not to do. I know from RCG to like the Bush/STOL stuff. Might want to sub so you know when we post and check out our first couple of videos...we fly everything, but we do have a lot more STOL type planes coming to the channel in the future. Thanks for watching and commenting Don!
Fantastic job on the cub, wish more planes would look like this out if the box 😁 A good tip on good looking AND functional scale bush wheels are the HK Grand tundra wheels, they are great and light. Oh, and Gregs channels is great as well 👏
Thank you man! Really appreciate it! I tried the GT wheels...nice, but just a touch too big for the scale (had to match Greg's 35's) 5 1/2 was the perfect size.
On a scale of 1-10 I rate this video at 12! Another very interesting and enjoyable video, Adam; and fabulous flying. My ultimate goal is to learn to fly my Model Maule M7 like the full scale Bush Pilots, tricky takeoffs/landings/Proximity Flying, dragging the tires on the surface of a lake, etc. LOL!
Another great video, man that was some awesome flying, you ever thought about adding a camera to the plane itself? I am sure some those flights would look awesome from the plane view. That first flying spot, man you have really found some seriously nice spots to fly. That last part of this one was super funny, wasn't expecting that. keep em coming.
Thanks man, really appreciate it. We were hoping some would appreciate really scale flying. Yeah...Bubba has a way with words...lol. We have a plan for some in plane camera footage in the future. I've tried the on the plane camera stuff...its ok, but I think right behind and to the side of the pilot in a giant scale plane may be much better.

Cory its awesome you saw this! So glad you liked it! I'm so used to commenting on your videos...never thought you'd be commenting on one of mine someday! Pretty freaking cool...
Love what you did to the plane. I'm redoing mine. The finish has to wait until Spring when temps are higher and humidity is lower. I like the Dubro 5.5" tundra tires. These are for 4mm axles but the super cub axles are 3.5mm. Did you drill out the wheel hubs to accept a sleeve that has an ID suitable for the 3.5mm axle? Also, did you have to put a bushing on the axles to adjust the length to suit the wheel hubs?
Thanks for watching! I did not use a sleeve, however I did paint my gear black which added some to the axles. I'm sure the paint has wore off by now but the play is very slight...almost none. The Du Bro Big Wheels come in two wheel halves that house a single wheel collar between them to keep the wheel in place on the axle and hide the collar. The position on the axle you choose determines how far out on the axle the wheel comes. You assemble as follows...inside wheel half, collar, put the tire on and bring the outside wheel half in to place...the bolts go through the outside half and through the inside half...you then put the nuts on the bolts to hold the two halves together. This is how from the outside you see the axle in the middle...flush with the wheel, but no collar on the outside. You mock up the two halves and collar first to determine where on the axle you need to tighten the collar down.
Hey Tony thank you man. Yeah I've been doing that a while...doesn't always go as planned...lol. Check out out CZ 150 vid...at the end I do it...barely.
Okay, after the hanger tour and some research I decided on the FMS PA 18 as my first cub. I love the scale mods you guys pulled off here. As someone still looking for absurd RC levels of flight envelope, how well did the airframe handle the added 550g of landing gear weight? I run the 4 1/2 dubros on my 2 meter beaver and she doesn’t mind it at all, but that’s a lot more wing and power. I just hate rock hard wheels, debating doing the swap right out of the box.
Thanks man for watching and glad you have a Super Cub! For your mission I'd stay away from the Du Bros. Ours is specifically tuned for scale STOL...to mimic Greg Millers actual Javron Cub. They look great and exactly match the size of Greg's 35's, perform well on rough STOL landings, and the added mass actually makes the plane land to a stop in a realistic distance to match Greg's plane. BUT...it flies like poo from an aerobatic standpoint. Just too much mass in the wrong place for that. With the stock light tires (hockey pucks I know) it is a really fun sport aerobatic plane.
@@ModelAV8RChannel gotcha, I figured it was too much mass for it to overcome. I’ve got a spare set of 4 1/2 dubros I may try out, they’re around 100g lighter per wheel than the 5 1/2 and at 6 1/4 scale that’s still just 28.25” wheel which is bush believable 🤓 Thanks for the reply, I’m excited for my first cub 🤩
Thank you! We added ballast to the tail to achieve a balance of 94mm. If you use the Du Bro Big Wheels we did you'll need the ballast. Maybe not if you use lighter wheels.
Hey David! Yeah man give it a go...pretty rewarding once you figure it out. That is the stock prop with painted tips. It was closest to the shape of the one Greg has on his Super Cub so we went with it...still plenty of room...no clearance issues. Thanks for watching!
Fantastic mods! I’m Going to give mine a yellow paint job as well - great idea on the anti dihedral struts mod! I want to do the same and just had a question about the little wood spacers - what is the thickness the little wood spacers need to be on the strut mounts to get the wing straight? They appear to be maybe 1/2” or maybe 3/4” on the little plywood blocks to get the wings straight? Great mods again love the vids 👍
Hey thanks for watching! Our blocks are about 1/4 inch thick, and that is about as much as you can do. Interestingly enough the carbon wing tube does not fit snug in the channel and it is that play that allows for this mod, but there isn't enough play to move it any more. Also the geometry of the wing struts changes so ours are very slightly bent...you wouldn't notice unless I pointed it out but they are. Even if moving them as much as you are talking about was possible the struts would be very bent and stressed at that point. Hope this helps! happy flying!
HowdyAV8R, I have the same 1300 mm AC and a desire to do the same, paint Cub Yellow. Did you run into problems with the paint solvents effecting the foam construction, or decal's And how much weight was added, look forward to this project before spring flying…
Ours is the 1700. We took the decals off, did body work with lightweight Spackle. The paint did fine on foam. No idea how much weight added by the paint.
Been sitting on the fence for a while on this one Adam. Your great review has made me want to get one, although I won't paint as I like it as it is. I will change the wheels tho. Please keep these great reviews coming 🙂
I'm sure I will Adam, I already have the version one Husky ( I love that) if the Cub is half as good I'll be a very happy man. Merry Christmas to you and yours 🙂
@@martyneggleton1221 Merry Christmas Martyn to you and yours as well! Be looking for a little something on our channel on the 23rd or 24th for Christmas!
Adam, I bought DuBro 5.5” inflatable wheels for my PA18. Any hints for removing the FMS wheels. I’ve been pretty aggressive with a screwdriver trying to get the caps off but I don’t want to do anymore damage to the plastic than I have to. Thanks
Man it was a pain if I remember. I used a really thin micro flathead screwdriver to get it started. In the end I monkeyed up the covers, but I don't plan to use them again anyway. I painted the inside of the wheel flat black and put them on another plane...actually looks "tougher" that way to me. lol.
Thanks Adam. That’s what I thought. I’ll get back to brute force method. I just thought I’d ask before I regretted it. I completely agree with that they look better painted black without the caps.
@@ModelAV8RChannel thank you again. I Changed the wheels to Dubro Balloon tires. Looks awesome and I guess it’s gonna be so cool to start and land in the wilderness. 😆
It looks great and scale! Well done! I am little bit worries about the black wings in the summer time when the sun burns down. Do you think the foam could be overheated, don't you?
Thanks for watching! Awesome...great flying plane! You will enjoy it. It has been a bit, but I don't think I had to...if memory serves the axle is slightly smaller than the hole in the Du Bro's, but it is a tight enough fit that they don't wobble when all said and done. FYI - The Du Bro's are heavy...with the 5 1/2 it is a great STOL plane, but no good at all for aerobatics if that is what you want to do with it.
I have a E-Flite carbon z cub, putting a new power system and 8 ch in it, gonna paint it after it’s dialed in. I added du-bro air filled tires and replaced the springs with 1/8 scale shocks…like a desert race truck in the rough stuff!😂😂👍🏻
really cool video man i have this plane as well i blew my esc was flying in snow and i think it melted and fried it lol but i put a super bright light in that spot under the nose not scale but looks cool
@ModelAV8RChannel I am thinking about getting the Ranger instead, do you think it could land/takeoff on gravel? The smaller wheels make me doubt it. I don't have a lot of lawns (arizona) and asphalt to land on.

Hey Tony thank you man. Yeah I've been doing that a while...doesn't always go as planned...lol. Check out out CZ 150 vid...at the end I do it...barely.
@@ModelAV8RChannel I watched that video...very cool...I guess have some brake pressure is key....is that mod even possible ???
Tony I'd love brakes on a bush plane, but as of yet I can't figure a way other than on a HUGE model.
I’ve got a spare set of 4 1/2 dubros I may try out, they’re around 100g lighter per wheel than the 5 1/2 and at 6 1/4 scale that’s still just 28.25” wheel which is bush believable 🤓
Thanks for the reply, I’m excited for my first cub 🤩
@@Finalmile_FPV Very cool. I'm excited for you! Everyone needs at least one Cub! I have...well...a bunch.
can u tell me what u did for the wieght adjustments i would love to mamke my plane the same great video
Thank you! We added ballast to the tail to achieve a balance of 94mm. If you use the Du Bro Big Wheels we did you'll need the ballast. Maybe not if you use lighter wheels.
I'm inspired to try painting foam. Thanks. Did switching to the 5" wheels cause prop ground clearance issues, or did you change props as well?
Hey David! Yeah man give it a go...pretty rewarding once you figure it out. That is the stock prop with painted tips. It was closest to the shape of the one Greg has on his Super Cub so we went with it...still plenty of room...no clearance issues. Thanks for watching!
Fantastic mods! I’m
Going to give mine a yellow paint job as well - great idea on the anti dihedral struts mod!
Did you run into problems with the paint solvents effecting the foam construction, or decal's
And how much weight was added, look forward to this project before spring flying…
Thanks so much for the kind words Martyn! It is a very good flying plane! You will enjoy it! Happy flying!
Sure will 🏴
Oh! I almost forgot Adam.
You look almost exactly like a friend of mine, just your accents are different 🙂
How did you make the teeny tiny VG's on the leading edge?
Thanks for watching! The VG's are actually molded into the foam on the wings.
It looks a lot bigger in person
Excuse me I have a question: how to take off/change the wheels on this plane? I’d like to put Du-bro balloon tires on.
Peter the center cap pops off with a small flat blade screwdriver, and underneath there is a regular wheel collar.
@@ModelAV8RChannel thanks 🙏 Bro
@@erad05 Always happy to help. Thanks for watching us Peter!
@@ModelAV8RChannel thank you again. I Changed the wheels to Dubro Balloon tires. Looks awesome and I guess it’s gonna be so cool to start and land in the wilderness. 😆
Beautiful airplane 👌👌
Thank you.
Hey now you should make the Eflite maule m7 like his.
I thought about it for sure.
@@ModelAV8RChannel Why not It seems easy but hard around the glass. P.s. where's Greg.
He has been busy building a new airplane.
@@ModelAV8RChannel Oh yeah the 4 place cub
It looks great and scale! Well done! I am little bit worries about the black wings in the summer time when the sun burns down. Do you think the foam could be overheated, don't you?
Thanks! We sprayed it with clear poly, and we keep it in the shade until we fly it. So far so good!
Nice , love it
Thank you! Cheers!
Ordered the FMS super cub, should be delivered tomorrow. Did you have to do any modification to install the dubro wheels/tires?
Thanks for watching! Awesome...great flying plane! You will enjoy it. It has been a bit, but I don't think I had to...if memory serves the axle is slightly smaller than the hole in the Du Bro's, but it is a tight enough fit that they don't wobble when all said and done. FYI - The Du Bro's are heavy...with the 5 1/2 it is a great STOL plane, but no good at all for aerobatics if that is what you want to do with it.
@@ModelAV8RChannel thanks. Yeah I have the 5.5 dubros on my draco and they certainly add some mass!
That white plane with blue stripes looks really cool, can you tell me please where did you get it?
That is a Hangar 9 1/4 scale Super Cub. Unfortunately they have been discontinued for years now.
@@ModelAV8RChannel that is a shame, still it would be nice if its festured in one of your videos
We plan to at some point for sure.
Can anyone tell me how to remove the stock wheels? Pop the little hubcap off? Cheers
Yep, pop the cap off with a tiny flat head screwdriver. Wheel collar underneath.
I have a E-Flite carbon z cub, putting a new power system and 8 ch in it, gonna paint it after it’s dialed in. I added du-bro air filled tires and replaced the springs with 1/8 scale shocks…like a desert race truck in the rough stuff!😂😂👍🏻
That will be awesome. Love the CZ Cub and 150. I have the 6" Du Bro Big wheels on my 150 (an original I converted to a taildragger).
@@ModelAV8RChannel I’ll send you pictures of it if you are curious 👌🏻
Oh, and I bought the Husky and a 10 channel, gonna do full span flapperons and independent slats…🤔🤷🏻♂️🤘🏻
Cool!
You should post some pics on the RCG thread when you finish the repaint.
I like to buy Bubba a Beer, he is funnier than hell.
Lol...thank you! I dunno...he's crazy enough as it is...
really cool video man i have this plane as well i blew my esc was flying in snow and i think it melted and fried it lol but i put a super bright light in that spot under the nose not scale but looks cool
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it! It is a great plane and I'll bet that nose light really sets yours off. Very cool.
I luv Cubs
Excellent content....good job sir..
Buck I'm with you...I love Cubs! I have them from 48" to 107". Thanks for watching and the very kind words...we really appreciate it.
Im sending this video to Trent Palmer Bubba so you better be ready for an ass whoopin Lol
Lol. I think at this point he's moved up to lakes...
That was totally awesome to see how these undercarriage move on gravel road when landing.
Thanks very much! It is a fun plane to bush fly with.
It's a shame that you cant buy this plane any more, FMS has been out of stock for months now.
They plan to produce more, just a matter of freeing up an assembly line to do it. Several planes in line ahead of it.
@ModelAV8RChannel I am thinking about getting the Ranger instead, do you think it could land/takeoff on gravel? The smaller wheels make me doubt it. I don't have a lot of lawns (arizona) and asphalt to land on.
@@berbandis You're probably correct, Ranger wheels will be too small. Maybe consider the Arrows Husky or Bigfoot.
Honestly the paint scheme of the original fms plane has kept me away from buying this plane
Yeah that scheme is pretty busy, but it is a replica of a real Super Cub that flies in Alaska. You can always re-paint...
A lot of work for a toy. I would have just flown it stock.
Well Jack, what you'd do with it isn't what the video was about.
