    Good to see someone review some stability shoes! I’ve been using GT1000-7 for 18 months or so and bought some Brooks GTS 19 yesterday. Tend to find my asics maybe haven’t last as long as I’d like.

      Thanks Greg :) I completely agree, there doesn't seem to be enough stability shoe reviews by actual runners, on TH-cam. I'm sure you'll find the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 19 shoes really comfy. I have 400km in mine so far and they are still going well. I normally get around 800km in my Asics shoes before I replace them but I've never tried the GT1000-7.

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Good running form will no doubt help avoid injury. But over pronation is quite the same thing as bad running form. Over pronators like myself need some extra support whilst running to stop the foot turning inwards too much when it lands. This will also help to protect against injuries.

    In my opinion the Kayano 26 is the best version in about 5-6 years. I found previous versions to fit poorly, have really tight and narrow toe boxes, lack cushioning, as well as lacking stability. Basically Asics forgot what the Kayano is supposed to be. A max cushioning, high stability shoe particularly made for larger/heavier runners. A heavier shoe weight was always an accepted part of the bargain in exchange for those characteristics. Asics got away from that, yet the shoe was still heavy, and fit like a ballet slipper squeezing the forefoot area like you were wearing skinny jeans. The 26 was a big step in the right direction; looking forward to the 27 coming very soon !

    • @HereWeAreRunning

      I'm just reaching 500 miles in my Kayano 26 shoes, so also really looking forward to the 27 coming out and to see how the shoe has evolved this year. Like you I found the 26 better than what came before it (I've only had experience of the 24 and 26) but hope that the 27 is a further step forward in the right direction.

    Awesome review. I have the 24s, and still using them, but I'd like to upgrade. Had a very good feeling in them first and still do. They don't look like they change the designs that much from the last few years despite the small technological differences in foam and all that in my opinion. I'd definitely like to get a 25 to save some money though, haha.
    Great review, I like how you talked about your experience with the 24s. I've never tried Brooks but if you're happy with one brand then there's not much reason to change, right?
    Just wondering if you had any advice with helping alleviate shin splint pain that I sometimes get when running with Gel Kayano? Maybe I need orthotics? Anyway, my issue not yours!

      Thanks for your comment Anthro and also for subscribing. I'm afraid I've never had shin splints so don't really have any specific advice. I would say that since I've started rotating several different brands/models of shoes, I think it helps to reduce injury. There is a video on the channel about shoe rotation, if you want my thoughts on this. Also, the Kayano 27 is due for release in the Summer so you should start to see reductions on the 26 - opportunities for a bargain could be coming soon.

    Hi Chris I m wondering, since you did a video about replacing shoes with this shoe in hand, how many km/mi did you have on them at that point?

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I retired these at 800km / 500 miles. The inside of the heel material was starting to break down and I felt the area where I heel strike was wearing down too much. But I was happy with that sort of distance. It's what I aim for when I replace my running shoes but everyone is different. Some runners will get more and other less, depending on a number of factors.

    I do overpronate and struggling between the Nike Peg37 and Kayano 26. What do you suggest? I love that bouncy feel of Nike’s and never tried a ASICS before. What do you’ suggest? I have switched between Nike Peg and Adidas ultraboost all the time. Wanted to try out something different this time. Thank you for your videos and suggestions.

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As an overpronator myself, there is a reason that I don't own any Nike running shoes. I think they make some great shoes for neutral runners but they really don't focus on having a good shoe for us runners that need some stability. The Pegasus 37 is a neutral shoe so I wouldn't recommend running in it if you overpronate. The Kayano 26 is a good stability shoe. In fact it has a lot of stability features which are ideal if you overpronate a lot. Another stability shoe that I really get on well with is the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 20 (see video). It uses guiderails to provide the support. If you can, try them both on in a running shoe shop and see what you think. Ideally get a gait analysis where they'll film you in slow motion when you are running in the shoes and advise which is better for you.

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a new runner, one thing I'd suggest is to get a gait analysis done to see whether you need a neutral or stability running shoe. The Asics Kayano 26 is Asics premium stability running shoe and has lots of features to keep your foot stable if you are an overpronator like me. It's certainly a shoe I'd recommend for runners that need stability. I've not tried the Quantum or heard much about it.

    How does the Gel 26 Kayano compare with the Asics Glideride Chris?

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never tried the Glideride but main difference is that the Kayano 26 is a Stability shoe and the Glideride is a Neutral one but having said that the reviews I've seen say that for a neutral shoe, the Glideride does provide some support. But I wouldn't say that the Kayano is suitable for neutral runners because it uses a medial support to provide the stability. Everyone I know who owns the Glideride, raves about them and I know that if I was a neutral runner, I'd definately buy some. If you are looking for a support shoe though, I'd certainly recommend the Kayano 26.

  • @amrasydan

    Im not much of a runner. Just bought the nike zoom fly fk last month and it was amazing with its react foam and the carbon fibre plate. It was an impluse buy as the shoes were on sale and it looked and felt amazing at the shop. However, it didnt provide much support for my flat feet when i went for my runs. My bad for buying it before doing any research.
    So i bought the kayano 26 early this week as its supposed to be a great stability shoe. I have to say that my landing felt much better and im more confident that it wont give my any long term injuries. But i kinda missed the react foam in my zoom fly as it definitely helped propelling me forward in each stride.

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing your experience. Personally, I've not run in Nike shoes. Why is that? Because their focus is making shoes for neutral runners. They have a very small selection of stability shoes and when I've tried them I didn't like them at all. For stability shoes, brands like Asics, Brooks and New Balance are my top choices. I hope one day, one of the brands will put a carbon fibre plate in a stability shoe. I'd love to see the difference that would make.

      Hi Daniel - I've never owned a pair of Asics GT 2000 however I had exactly the same issue that you described with both pairs of Asics Gel Luminus 2 (no longer made) that I previously ran in. They were a great shoe but developed a small hole on the upper mesh where my big toe was. I've not had that problem with either the Kayano 24 or the Kayano 26. • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      According to Asics, the Gel Kayano 26 is suitable for runners with flat feet. It's a stability shoe with plenty of cushioning and in my opinion it's idea if you overpronate and want a shoe for running longer distances or every day type of runs. It's relatively heavy so not the best for speed workouts. For cross country, I guess it depends on the type of course. I run on hard trails in my Kayano's but if it's muddy, I'd put on my trail shoes. The difference between the Gel-Kayano 26 and the Gel-Kayano 26 Platinum just seems to be costmetics. The Platinum is a special edition in a different colourway. I'd expect the technology and features of the shoe to be the same.

  • @sfiron
    @sfiron 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Had this shoe for about 8 months. This shoe has good stability I guess but not enough cushioning. Overall the foot feels really fatigued after using this shoe for over 5K runs. If you are over 45 years old you might want to look for more cushioning from a shoe. Also running with this shoe gives you slightly slower pace compared to the Nike Vaporfly for example.

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing your views on the shoe. I'm always interested to hear how other runners find the shoes I use and review. I agree that it has less cushioning than some other shoes but personally I find the cushioning about right for most of my running. But for marathons and long runs I use the Brooks Adrenaline GTS. Brooks certainly have more cushioning. I don't think Asics intend this shoe to compete with the Nike Vaporfly. That is a far more expensive shoe containing lots of technology but in my opinion is for the elites or very quick runners. It's durability means it won't last very long, whereas I can get around 500 miles / 800km in the Asics Kayano or Brooks Adrenaline GTS.

      Difficult to be sure. Have you got any other running shoes and do your shins hurt after running in those as well? Also, have you had a gait analysis done? These shoes are designed for over pronators. If you don't over pronate then the stability features may interfere with your running form. The other possibility, as a new runner, are you doing too much running too soon or trying to run too fast? Lots of new runners do this, myself included when I started running 4 years ago.

      I'm not an expert with plantar fasciitis but if you are looking for a shoe with good cushioning and support then this shoe is worth checking out.

    if normal guy wears stability shoes, will it hurt?

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you don't overpronate and would normally suit a neutral running shoe, then there are some stability shoes that you could wear to provide some support when your legs are tiring. But there are others like the Kayano that might interfere with the way you run, due to the stability features they contain. Check out my review of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 20 if you are looking for a stability shoe that could be worn by a neutral runner.

      Yes this is a road running shoe with lots of stability features, designed for runners who overpronate. Ideal if you are doing a lot of running and need the support.

    I have a knee ligament issue. Would you recommend these or gel venture for running?

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd certain seek professional advice about your knee injury and what shoe would suit you best. The Kayano is a Stability shoe suited best for runners who overpronate. It's designed for road/pavements. Whereas from what I can see the Venture is a trail running shoe.

    Is it good for those who have got flat feet?

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, according to Asics it's suitable for flat feet. It's a premium stability shoe best suited for runners who overpronate. If you are unsure if you overpronate or not, I'd suggest getting a gait analysis.

    ASICS GT vs gel kayano?

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never owned the Asics GT range but did try them on before buying my first Kayano's. I preferred the Kayano but I've heard good reports of the GT-2000 as well.

    Very bad experience also my pace went 30 s/km low. Feet become very early hot.Also I purchased Asics metarun also there is same problem . Later I purchased Nike zoom fly 3 this shoes is far better than Asics shoes. Now I m fully satisfied with Nike shoes. I wasted my Money on Asics two shoes kayano 26 and metarun.

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Kayano is a maximum stability shoe. It's all about cushioning and support on longer runs, for those of us that overpronate, rather than a faster shoe. The Zoom fly 3 is for neutral runners and would be aimed at faster runs. They are very different types of shoes, for very different types of runners.
