    You've helped me make up my mind and buy these bad boys. I've had Hoka Cliftons for the past few years and my over pronation always wrecks the heels and/or my knees...hopefully these boys will do the trick!

    Oh how I wish I'd seen your video BEFORE I ordered mine online! You are 100% about them being smaller this year. I didn't really notice it until a good week into them and my toes started to bother me. My left foot has overpronation and these shoes are perfect for correcting it. My knee isn't happy if I'm not wearing these shoes. I'm going to keep an eye out for your reviews before I buy my next pair!

      Hello Cathy,
      Right, it is crazy! I have worn the Gel-Kayano since the 23rd model. Every year I was 10.5 however last year when I went to try the 26 I was shocked that my toes were right against the edge. Asics likes to fiddle with their models every year, so unfortunately some years it is the perfect fit and others it isn't. I'll definitely keep you posted with the reviews, if you have any other questions please let me know! :)

    • @kickinit7018
      @kickinit7018  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello my friend, sorry for the late response. The best way to find out is to go into an Asics or a running store and ask them to assess your feet. If they say you overpronate, in other words, your arches collapse inwards, then the Kayano is best! If not, then Nimbus. If you do not have a running store near you, you can go off of this measure. If you prefer a running shoe that is a bit more firm, especially in the midfoot, the Kayano will be better. If you prefer a running shoe that your feet really sink into, like a cloud, then the Nimbus is for you. Nonetheless, whichever choice you make, these are Asics two best shoes. You cannot go wrong!

    got this kayano, this is my first stability shoe, i do mildly over pronate and i have a lower arch so was told this is the shoe for me. i walked in it for 15 mins and it caused me shin pain and a day later they still hurt

    • @kickinit7018
      @kickinit7018  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am sorry to hear that my friend. These types of stability shoes provide a TON of stability. As a result, they are better built for someone who needs a lot of support. Given that you mildly pronate, a neutral shoe like the Gel-Nimbus or gel-cumulus might be better.
      However, I'd still stick with it. The Kayano's tend to be quite stiff at the beginning. Once you break them in, I feel like they may be soft enough to prevent that pain. Give it a try and let me know my friend, hope it helps!

    These aren't only for those with flat feet. I have normal to high arches but still sometimes slightly overpronate. I'd recommend anyone get a gait analysis and look at the wear pattern on your current running shoes to compare to shoe wear patterns shown online in a quick Google search.

    Hi Jordan. Gotta say you basically answered my question without me asking it. I your third point you held up the shoe and I saw all these little black speckled spots. I just purchased a pair of GT-1000 and have the same speckled on the inside of my recent purchase. My OCD convinced me it’s a defect. The shop assistant convinced me that it’s deliberate by showing me a single pair on the display stand. I’m tempted to take them back but seeing them on the pair you held up; I wonder if you Can tell me why they’re there and do they have a purpose. Should I be put of or start running. Sorry if this is known to the seasoned ASICS buyer. It’s my first pair.

      Hello my friend! You can put our OCD to rest as all is well. The specs are not a defect! They are not there to do anything also. They are simply a design feature. Some don't notice, and for other its drives them crazy haha! Thank you for bringing this point up. hey great review man
    so you recomemnd that i get a size half higher since the 26 comes smaller than the 25's?
    I wear size 11 on Brooks GTS 19 Adrenalinees and it fits naturally to my feet
    So 11.5 for Kayanos?

    • @kickinit7018
      @kickinit7018  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there, I've never worn the brooks so I cannot speak too much on that, but I would definitely recommend the 11.5's. I am typically a 10.5 in Asics and had to get 11. If you have never worn Asics before, it is typically a smaller fitting brand so people usually go half a size up when they get to the brand as well. So that in combination with the 26 being smaller, you definitely want to go 11.5. Let me know if you have any other questions my friend!

    • @kickinit7018
      @kickinit7018  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends what you are more so going for my friend! If you are someone who wants a shoe that is more minimalistic, than i'd definitely go with the Nike. It is going to be a bit less bulky and more sleek. I have used the react cushioning before, it is great and provides an awesome bounce in your step. On the flip side, these Nike shoes are not going to provide the level of support that the Kayano provides. So if you want a bit lighter and minimalistic, Nike React for sure, but if you truly do need the support, then the Kayano is 100% the way to go. I hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions 🙏

      Hello Qif, You're exactly right. GT-2000 and Gel Kayano both fall under Asics' structured cushioning category. Both of them will perform very well for long runs, particularly long marathon runs. The only difference is that based on the model and the shape of your foot, they will have a different fit and lockdown. You can't go wrong with either shoe, but their might be one that is tailored for your foot. I've used both and particularly like the Kayano more, but that is just me! Be sure to try both on my friend!

  • @coolhand1966

    they made some improvements in this shoe - the sole is more robust - the K25 sole wears down far too quickly. however the fit is a fail - as you say you need to size up half a size but the toe box is much wider and going up a half size I just found them way too roomy. For now I think I'll just replace my 25s with 25s when the sole loses it's grip. Now looking for an alternative stability shoe with a better sole than the K25.

    • @kickinit7018
      @kickinit7018  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment my friend! Yeah I definitely agree about the sizing, hopefully next years 27 fits a bit better. As for an alternative stability shoe maybe try the GT-2000s, there comparable to the Kayano and I have met many runners who actually prefer the 2000's instead.

      @@kickinit7018 My dream shoe would be the Kayano made from a waterproof Gortex upper and a more substantial sole that would allow me to run off-road in foul weather but still allow me still to run on road on my way to the trail. I owned the GT-2000 5 Trail Plasmaguard - a stability shoe that worked for the trail but the sole also worked on road for short-distances; however I would not recommend them for long distance road running. Forgiving that the Plasamaguard didn't really work these were a great pair of shoes however the heel cup fabric went through after about 30 miles - I wasn't alone with this issue and I ended up returning them as they were basically not acceptable quality. The GT-2000 6 Trail Plasmaguard may of fixed the heel cup fabric issue however ASICS changed the fit of the shoe and it did not work for me. There is no GT-2000 7 Trail and it would appear that ASICS discontinued this model.

      @@coolhand1966 It is so interesting you say that because when I use to work retail, I remember getting the GT-2000 5 Trail runner. One of the first things I had mentioned to my coworkers was, "Man oh man, if only this could have been a Kayano". Yes, unfortunately Asics isn't doing enough in the trail running section. They have a couple solid models that from my experience uphold in the foul weather, such as the Fujitrabuco line. However, although these can take a beating and rough terrain, the cushion and support in the fujitrabuco (non stability) does not even come close to the GT-2000 or the Gel-Kayano. I am with you my friend, here's to hoping that the dream that is Kayano Goretex trail runner comes true...and hopefully sometime in the near future because I think it would be a hit! They should do the same thing with the Gel-Nimbus as well. It only makes sense right, why not turn your two bread and butter long distance runners (Nimbus & Kayano) into trail runners instead of making separate trail shoes. Hopefully Asics can get wind of this conversation!

      @@kickinit7018 Well I stand corrected. There is a GT=2000 7 Trail however it was not released here in the UK - it was a US release only. It has just been updated to the GT-2000 8 Trail. They've dropped the Plasmaguard on these shoes - no biggie as it was ineffective. There is also a Gortex version of the GT-2000 - the GT-2000 8 G-TX - you have to ask why did ASICS not incorporate this into the Trail version of the shoe - although I can't really see any difference between the soles of these shoes - the GT-2000 5 and 6 Trail had a noticeably different sole to the standard GT-2000. The GT-2000 is basically ASICS more affordable stability shoe however it now features most of the tech that is in the Kayano. The Fujitrabuco is a great off-road shoe however I don't believe the sole would fair well if used on Asphalt. I also wonder how it's stability compares to the Kayano/GT-2000?

      @@coolhand1966 Sorry for the extremely late reply my friend. Work has had me swamped like you wouldn't believe! Yes for sure, the Fujitrabuco would definitely not fair well on Asphalt, not great for multipurpose running at all. It also has nowhere near the cushion or support as the Kayano and 2000 (as it lacks Asics' Duomax technology). Interestingly enough, Asics here in Canada has been releasing winterized versions of some of its most popular running shoes. Nonetheless, they TOO lack the plasmaguard!

      Hey my friend,
      I only use if for running when I am doing the warm up with my gym classes, aside from that I primarily use it for a lot of walking myself. Particularly, when I am going walking/hiking on a trail or on vacation. The Kayano 26 has duomax, which is extra support for if you are flat footed. This is awesome because if you are heavier, this extra support helps the shoe to last longer as you have another layer of the shoe that you must break in.
      I will say though, it is not the lightest shoe that Asics offers. If the weight of the shoe is your primary concern, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND going for the Asics Dynaflyte 3. It has great cushion and is SUPER lightweight. I did a short video on it here if you would like to see:

      Hi Sanyam, I can't speak too much on the Nike Pegasus 36 since I have never used it. However, I do hear very good things about that shoe, so definitely look up a review. In my opinion, the Gel Kayano will be the most durable shoe. Although I own and have been using my Gel Kayano 26, I still often use my Gel Kayano 24 from 2 years ago as the cushion is still very much intact. This is after having run and done plenty of various physical activities in that shoe, which is a testament to the durability of the Gel-Kayano. Also, since the Gel-Kayano 26 has more gel than in previous years, this will help the shoe remain comfortable for a longer period of time!
      With all that being said, it is good to have options. Please be aware that because the Gel-Kayano is built for people who overpronate (whose arches collapse inwards), they tend to be stiffer than some of its competitors, especially at the beginning. They do however ease up and begin to feel great with time!
      I own a pair of Adidas Ultraboost and it is easily the softest shoe I have ever worn. So if you like a softer ride rather than firm, that might be a better choice. On the flip side, the upper of the Adidas is made of an all knitted material. This is great for comfort and breathability. However if you are using this shoe for any physical activity besides running, for example exercises involving lateral movements, you may risk rolling an ankle.
      All and all my recommendation would be the Gel-Kayano 26, as it is specifically built by Asics for long runs and is very durable from all my experiences. I hope that helps! Let me know what you end up deciding my friend! 🙏😃

    Which is best for walking and standing when traveling?

    • @kickinit7018
      @kickinit7018  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the late reply my friend, I have been swamped at work! The Kayano is great for long distance walking and running. Especially once broken in it has profound support. However, the Kayano is made for people who's arches collapse inwards, or who "pronate", so they have a stiff midsole technology called duomax to stop that from happening. This stiffness is not noticed really at all while walking or running, BUT it is when standing in one place for long periods of time. Hence, if you will simply be doing a lot of standing, I'd recommend the Dynaflyte 3 or the Gel Nimbus. These are shoes with a bit less support but excellent cushion to make those standing in one spot periods much more bearable!

    Do you recommend 4E if medium is a little snug?

    • @kickinit7018
      @kickinit7018  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not if it is a little snug my friend. I would first recommend trying a half size up. Since this years model is very short in length, going up a half size will give you a bit of extra length (but not too much since it is already short) as well as extra width that can relieve the pressure you are feeling on the widths. If that doesn't work, I would then recommend trying a 2E FIRST, as this provides probably enough extra room to relieve the little bit of snugness. IF all of that fails and it is still too snug, then for sure go with 4E, but those options above will most likely help you get the best fit! 👍

    • @kickinit7018
      @kickinit7018  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Armando Sturzenegger No problem my friend! So when you buy an Asics shoe you can find the details of the width size either on the box or on the inside tag of the shoe. If I recall correctly, when you are looking on the sizing tag on the inside the shoe, the serial number should appear beside the product number written like this, "(2E)" or "(4E)". If you are looking on the box, beside the size there will be a giant sticker in blue that says "2E Width" or in yellow that says "4E Width". If you cannot find any of these indicators, this usually means you have purchased the regular version of the shoe (and by regular I mean no extra modifications to width, normal size).

    I have been using Gel Kayano 26 for about 2 months now. I honestly wish I never bought it. Although it supports my feet pronation motion but it does not do any good. The weight is severely heavy for competitors. I still get feet pain after take off my shoes after long run. This shoe is similar concept to dental braces wear some kind of tools is used to reshape and hold your feet forcefully.
    Too much pain and struggle for unclear theory. Some theory is totally against stability shoes and recommend running with bare foots at least once every two weeks to strengthen the feet muscles and stabilizers.

    • @kickinit7018
      @kickinit7018  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am sorry to hear that my friend.
      The truth of that matter is that even when a person pronates, somethings work better for some than others. During my time in retail, I had people who hated the Gel-Kayano despite pronating. These people preferred a more barefoot/low to the ground runner like the Nike Free as it gave them less pain. On the flip side, I met others with consistent ankle pain or shin splints who had this pain washed away once running in a pronation shoe like the Gel-Kayano or GT-2000. So it is different for each individual, but I can definitely see where you are coming from!
      Pronation shoes tend to have a lot of stiffness in the midfoot due to the stability support (DuoMax in Asics). If you are ever willing to try out another Asics product, I would highly recommend the Noosa FF or the Noosa Tri. It is a Triathlon runner that was built with a much lower profile for people who appreciate less stability. I hope that helps in some way. I wish you all the best for your future competition, crush it my friend!

      That is probably its only drawback. It has average breathability. Its breathability is not as good if you are comparing it to something that has a KNITTED upper in which air flows through freely. However, all other aspects of the shoe are absolutely solid, and only get better as your break them in. Also, this less breathability helps if you are using it in cooler temperatures I.e. Fall or Spring!
