      Thanks Dan. Beauty of the guiderails is that neutral runners can run in the Adrenaline GTS 20 and it should impact their running form, so a good option if the legs are tired and form is starting to dip.

    Thanks for sharing, great info. I'm a big fan of the Kayanos and have stuck with them for years. Though I wear them out a tad faster, I assume as I am a heavier runner. After around 500km the tread under the ball of my foot is all gone. Looking forward to the release of the 27s but also tempted to give Brooks a go!

    • @HereWeAreRunning

      Certainly worth giving Brooks a go. I'm just about to retire my Kayano 26 so the release of the 27 here in the UK can't come soon enough.

    Great comparison. Love the twist test. Flexibility is important. I'm heavier so I want LESS flex and more support/firmness on my forefoot. Which is why the Air Monarch rules for bigger guys. I'm getting in shape so I don't need the Monarch anymore. But I put it on the other day for old time sake...and MAN it's a support BEAST. You could walk on arrowheads in the Monarch and not feel it. You could walk on land mines and not suffer a scratch.

    Thanks for the review Chris. I've just bought a couple of new pairs of stability shoes, but nothing from 2020. I've bought a "budget" pair of Asics as I really like the way Asics shoes performs in general. I've also bought the Mizuno Wave Horizon 3. Never tried Mizuno before, and finding them really comfy on the longer runs.

      Here We Are Running good cushioning if you heal strike (like me) and good stability if you overpronate (like me). They are not the quickest shoe. I wouldn’t run a fast 5k in them, but a marathon would be great.

    I had Adrenaline GTS 19s and loved them then once they were done I switched to the Ravenna 10s as they also have guide rails too but not a fan of them so far! l'll probably go back to Adrenaline GTS with the 20s after watching this. Thanks!

      Certainly for me in the Brooks range I opt for the Adrenaline GTS. The 20 isn't in my opinion quite as cushioned as the 19 but it's a really well balanced shoe and I love it for my long runs.

    HI buddy and thanks for this review . I bought the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 20 and it feels really comfortable and light after my 10 k. . I must say the upper side of the shoe sounds very fragile though. I will surely get the Asics 27 as a 2nd pair since the stability is more pronounced...Until now I could not decide really since I run with mid foot landing...But it would be very interesting to test the new Asics. Take care.

    I've got the GTS 19 and 20 as well as the Arahi 4s in rotation. I'm wearing the Brooks in 48.5 and the HOKA in 48 and those have given me blisters on the inner heel as well. They also don't seem to lock as well to the heel even though I've tied them with a runner's knot. A do enjoy me some Saucony Liberty ISO 2 (49). They are super comfortable but feel a bit more responsive and less cushiony.

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm trying to find the time to make a video about how my blistering whilst wearing the Arahi 4 has improved. I'm able to wear them again now. Not for long runs but for the shorter 10 to 15km, I'm now not getting blisters. Still pretty disappointed with the Arahi 4 though. Hoping to get a Saucony shoe later in the year.

    Hi Chris,
    Thank you for a comparison of support running shoes. As a mid-pack sub-4 marathoner who mildly over-pronates I’m always on the look out for reviews and comparisons of support shoes but they seem surprisingly rare - in comparison to reviews of neutral shoes - so please do post more videos like this and cover other models and makes too!
    My preference is still for a shoe with a medial post and torsional stability (like T-Beam from NB) but I’m aware these are going out of fashion somewhat with the rise of guide rails etc. which don’t seem to suit me as well.
    My rotation currently includes three support shoes - NB 860 v9 (long runs), NB 1500 v5 (speed work), Saucony Omni Iso 2 (easy runs) - all of which seem to suit me well.
    I previously got on well with the ASICS DS Trainer for speed work, the old Adidas Supernova Control for distance and the old Brooks Ravenna when it had a medial post.
    So would be interested in your thoughts on those (and other similar) brands and models too!
    Thanks again,
    Matthew

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Matthew. I'm afraid that I've no experience in the shoes that you are using but I do have the next version of the NB 860 on my list to buy when it's released later in the year. I'd also like to try a Saucony shoe. I agree with you, there is a lot less choice and not so much innovation going on in the support running shoe market. All the brands seem to focus much more on neutral shoes but I'm sure I've heard that there are more pronators than there are neutral runners. I will definately be doing more stability running shoe reviews and comparisons when new models are released. As my channel grows further I'll be using the ad revenue to put towards running shoes so that I can make video reviews and share my non bias thoughts with other runners who may belooking to buy them.

    • @123membe
      @123membe 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here We Are Running Here We Are Running Hi again. Thanks for the message back. I ran a marathon in the v8 and another in the v9 of the NB 860 and loved the experience both times. Sadly the v10 doesn’t seem to suit me that well - I think because NB removed the T-Beam so less torsional stability and made the inside of the heel counter less plush. To me this removal of support seems to be part of a trend among some manufacturers to make support shoes more neutral somehow. I look forward to see what you make of the 860 v11 when it’s released. Yes the Saucony Omni Iso 2 works well for me but only up to a half - perhaps not enough support when I get tired / poor form beyond that distance. I had a couple of pairs of the GTS 19 which were so so comfortable but not enough support for me from the guide rails. That’s great you’ll be doing more support shoes and I wish you all the best with ads and sponsorship to help fund the reviews - yes I’m guessing lots of (over)pronators not that well catered for! I’m going to try the Hoka Arahi and ASICS GT 2000 next time I’m in the market - I ran with the Kayano years back but found it a bit too solid and a tad dull somehow - good to hear you like the latest version. I’m also curios if the GT 2000 might be a lighter option but still good for a marathon. All the best with the channel, Matthew

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Matthew. I'd expect the GT 2000 to be a bit lighter than the current Kayano but also expecting the new Kayano (already released in the US and hopefully available here in the UK in the next few weeks) to be a lighter Kayano. If I was buying the Arahi 4 again, I'd get it direct from Hoka as they are currently offering a 30 Day period to try them out and return them if you aren't happy. I don't have a wide shoe in any other brand but would definately need one in Hoka.

      Firstly I'm not an expert in achilles tendinitis and would recommend that you seek professional advice and don't run if you are getting pain from achilles tendinitis. If you believe that over pronation is a cause of your achilles tendinitis then either of these shoes could help. As you saw in the video, I prefer the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 20 and the Asics Kayano 26. Both are really good stability shoes.

    First of all that was a really good and detailed video !! Secondly i would like your advice please . I have supination problem in both feet ( when feet lean towards the ankle , outside of feet ) so i need a good stability shoe and im so confused cause hoka seems good but brooks also. What you recommend for my problem ? Thnx in advance :)

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. First thing to say is that I'm not an expert on supination and I've always found the advice a bit conflicting for supination/under pronation. Some people say you should run in a neutral/cushioned shoes whilst others recommend a stability shoe. My non-expert view would be that if you feel you need some support in a shoe then opt for something that uses guide rails like the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 20. Brooks use guide rails in most of their stability shoes but the Adrenaline GTS 20 is a very good mix of support, weight and comfort. Guide rails are designed to help you when you need it but not interfere with your running style when you don't, so are ideal for all runners.

    Hey Chris, such a great review! Looking to get your advice please! I’m an overpronator (heavily overpronated) - I’ve been using the Kayano’s for my runs - however I’m looking to get even more stability - what would you recommend?

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you. I have to be honest, of all the shoes I run in, the Kayano's are the most stable. I'm struggling to think of a support shoe that has more stability features.

    • @Seanonyoutube

      Try a La Sportiva expedition boot, should be fairly stable 🤣

  • @daniels8429

    Hiya! Great review. After watching this video and your review of the Brooks adrenaline itself, you're pushing me to purchase them...I'm currently looking to replace my ASICS Dynamis shoes, which have now done well over 750km so need replacing.
    I've always had asics, so can you really recommend the brooks? ...I don't think I over pronate much, but don't tend to heel strike. I've been told by a sports Therapist that I have flat feet and should look for a stability shoe.
    Finally, I do about 4 long runs a week ranging from 10-13km's. And a short 5 or 6km run on the weekend....would you say the brooks will cope with that sort of mileage!
    Thanks so much. Your reviews have been the most helpful I've seen so far.
    Ps. Sorry for long comment ! (But not sure if you can PM on TH-cam)

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. Glad you found my reviews helpful. I was an only Asics runner for several years before I decided to buy my first pair of Brooks. I get on well with both the Kayano 26 and the Adrenaline GTS 20 and I find that having multiple shoes of different brands works well in a running shoe rotation. I wouldn't necessarily recommend the GTS20 to someone who heavily over pronated. My personal view is that the stability features of the Kayano provide more support overall but with all things considered, the GTS 20 is my winner for 2020 so far. I am really looking forward to getting the Kayano 27 in a few weeks time, to see what it is like.

  • @Ixo82

    Thanks for the review!! I used to run with kayano but at the end of long runs they felt heavy and bulky. I asked and people told me that they were meant for heavier women. I´m 120 pound and 5.2feet. Right now I´m running with Adrenaline GTS20 and they feel good but dont know if I feel as stable as with Kayano. Does the weight matter when buying stability shoes? Thx!

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Kayano certainly has a lot of technology built into it which does make it a bit heavier that some of it's competitors. I believe the new version will be lighter so looking forward to see how that effects the feeling when running in it. A heavier runner would probably opt for a shoe that had more cushioning like the Kayano 26 but I wouldn't say that the Kayano 26 was specifically for heavier runners. It's classed as ASICS premium stability shoe and would be best suited to those that require a medium or high amount of support, especially if you overpronate like me. I'd say that the GTS20, with the guiderails is more suited for mild to moderate overpronators.

  • @aristojuan7926
    @aristojuan7926 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought the saucony guide 13 base on my local running shop expert recommendation and although I felt the deference from my old running shoes, I still felt like I needed just a bit more support therefore I have decided to buy the the brooks Adrenaline GTS 21 which according to Brooks there are some minor differences but the idea is the same from past version, support the runner.

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Guiderails on the Adrenaline GTS 21 with certainly provide you support and it's a much more cushioned shoe than the Saucony Guide. I didn't get on with the Guide 14 at all. The Kayano gives the most support of all, in my opinion and is also very comfortable but the latest version has some durability concerns.

  • @hallarf

    Hi Chris just splashed out on the Adrenaline GTS 20 as an upgrade from the 19s. Loved my 19s and see them as more of a long distance shoe. But absolutely love my 20s as so comfortable, lighter and seem faster. Also now realise it's good to mix them up. Always wanted a pair of Hoka but weren't sure what stability ones would suit me best? Also wary of ordering on line as dont need the hassle of returning them, so wouldn't know if I would need to go up a 1/2 size.

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Robert, I'd agree the 20s are certainly lighter and I think note quite as cushioned as the 19 but with a bit more responsivenes so they feel faster. Yes, since reviewing the Hoka Arahi 4, I received lots of comments about the width. I'm not sure going up half a size would have worked, I think I would need the wide version even though I've never needed a wide in any other brand. I wish now that I'd bought them direct from Hoka because they are currently doing a 30 day try out period (i.e. you can run in them and return within 30 days if you don't like them).

    Hi I watched this vid and a previous one and you talked about a blister you got when using Hoka shoes. Well I bought a pair about 2 and a half years ago first pair I ever bought. I never got to run in them I wore them maybe 4 times just walking about 2 miles on the 4 occasions. I got bruised blood on the inside of my foot exactly where you get your blisters very painful. Then I got plantar so that ended my return to running, so here I am April 2021 and I’m going to the run shop on the 26 th to get fitted out for a pair of running shoes again the question is do I go for Hokas or do I try something else. I have to take the advice from Romain at run4it in the U K. I think I will have a look at Brooks they do this 90 day trial thing if the shoes are no good you can take them back and get a different pair. Sounds like a no brainier to me. Thing is I used to do Karate. Kick boxing and Akido all in my bare feet never a problem. Was it the Hokas that started the plantar. They definitely gave me bruised blood blisters that’s for sure. Or is that when I did all the martial arts I Stretched a lot. What do you think. I’m just getting back into running and I have just watched 2 of your vids and you have mentioned the Hoka blister problem twice. Great vids will watch more of your vids cheers Derek. Ps do I need to get supportive shoes to help with the plantar it is not nearly as bad as it was ?????

    I rotate through the Brooks Adrenaline 20's, ASICS Kayano 26, and On Cloudflyer.
    The Kayono seems to be the best for avoiding injury but they do feel firm when you land compared to the other too. If I was racing a 5-10k I would use the On's, but if I was half marathon training I would choose the Asics. Love the Brooks but they do keep on niggling my right ankle grrr.

    Great review Chris, I over pronate too (slightly) and recently got a pair of neutral Reebok Floatride energy 2.0’s for £29 and I’m now using them with a pair of Enertor arch support insoles, so far so good but would love a pair of the GTS 20’s just to try them out, are the Brooks true to size? Thanks.

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks mate :) Yes, I certainly found them true to size. I have previously considered doing something similiar to you and using some Enertor insoles in some neutral shoes, mainly because there are lots of neutral shoes out there that I'd like to try.

    • @soupyruns9709
      @soupyruns9709 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Here We Are Running I’ve only used them twice so far, I did find a big difference in thickness and when I changed them they nearly make the shoe too tight, the insole in my Reeboks are paper thin though, nothing like the insoles in my Asics GT-2000,s. I’m hoping they’ll bed in a bit though as I use them. 👍🏻

      @@soupyruns9709 I have the normal Enertor insoles and used them during during marathon training. They do add a bit of weight to the shoe but certainly help with the pounding your feet take on the pavement.

      Here We Are Running compared to the standard insole in the Reeboks the Enertor (arch support) insole are ALOT thicker, I’m not sure if they’re going to “bed-in” after a few runs but they make the shoe a tight fit as they’re so much thicker, done a 5k in them this morning and seem to be a bit better, either that or I’m just getting used to them.

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say it would be fine on a treadmill. Personally on a treadmill I use a shoe with less cushioning because the treadmill itself gives you a reasonable amount of cushioning but thats not to say the GTS 20 wouldn't work well on a treadmill.

    Hi Cris thanks for review. My current shoes are Kayano 26 . Personally finding them a bit heavy.Looking for different ones. My question is about size. Are your shoes the same size? All same size UK/US ?

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. Yes in most brands I take a UK size 11. The only times I've gone up half a size is with some of my On Running shoes and also my Salamon trail shoes. Of the 3 shoes I compare in this video they are all UK size 11 and standard width but the Hoka Arahi 4 are noticeable narrower. If I was buying Hoka shoes again, I'd go with a wide fitting. I've heard that the Kayano 27 is going to be lighter than the 26 so I'll be getting my hands on them as soon as they are released, to see how they compare.

    • @rlupara

      Here We Are Running so generally speaking the shoe size matches displayed? I mean if you are using asics 11 uk the same must fit from adidas,mizzuno, hokla etc. ?

    • @HereWeAreRunning
      @HereWeAreRunning  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rlupara I generally find that most running shoes fit true to size but there are some that may differ. Most people that do running shoe reviews will say how a shoe that they are reviewing fits. Therefore was it their normal size or did they have to go up or down half a size. In my experience Asics, Brooks, Hoka all fit true to size (although Hoka are narrow). On Running and Salomon I go up half a size. I've not run in Adidas or Mizono before so can't say.
