    • @lindasherman9921
      @lindasherman9921 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      That's not really the problem. NVIDIA provides a "black box" to board makers to test their cards. The black box test should stress the card more than it obviously did. The whole point of the black box is so that you don't need the driver, which is software and takes time and may be (and probably is) buggy AF until close to release. There's also no reason to think that giving the drivers to the board makers earlier would have exposed the problem. And if driver testing exposes an issue the black box doesn't, is the problem the card or the buggy-ass driver? how would you know?

    • @44R0Ndin
      @44R0Ndin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@lindasherman9921 In that last case, the problem is obviously the black box, as the driver is doing something the black box is not doing. Of course, the question of "is that thing the driver's doing correct or not" is left unanswered using this method, but that's a question to ask the people working on the driver, not the people working on the black box.

    • @ronakparikh
      @ronakparikh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@lindasherman9921 listen to what you are saying. Aibs only found out about this issue after they got the driver so clearly any black box to test on is not as through and realistic as you may think. Also "you don't know if the problem is the card or a buggy driver"? What? This is what engineering is, you can diagnose if a problem is with software or with hardware, what your saying is just ridiculous. Clearly if aibs were given the final production driver further in advance and had more time to test they wouldn't have this problem, it's obvious and plain. Nvidia already had pretty much everything about this card leak they might as well have given the drivers, or if it was not done yet they should have waited a few weeks more to make sure everything is working before releasing the driver only like the day before the card is supposed to launch. This is how everyone's brand image goes down, Nvidia and aibs and it is mostly Nvidia's fault

    • @eptagz
      @eptagz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lindasherman9921 The black box thing makes sense. And since it's not a final product, no battery of tests will ever simulate every real-world scenario. Imperfect system it may be, it will allow the AIBs to produce a card at the same time as nvidia's launch. Jay is right, no product launch is ever perfect, and everyone involved can be at fault to some degree. Also the fact that these boards are designed to work with a variety of hardware, workloads, environments, and can't be perfect in all of them. Like Apple's IOS which works perfectly within its ecosystem, vs Windows which has to be sufficiently compatible with almost anything you can dream up to work with it

    All new hardware/software is released now in such a rush to market we see (even from the biggest companies, amazon, Apple, msft) update after update and “known issue” and “we are working in it” messages all the time. Sadly we as consumers have accepted that. I am just as guilty cause I like new toys. Just frustrating.

      It's still not quite that simple though. These are COMPLICATED devices, and regardless how much you calculate, measure, plan, and test, someone in the wild is still going to do something you didn't expect. Or component and manufacturing tolerances will bite you. And that's before you introduce the variability of having third party companies taking a reference design and adding their own special sauce and manufacturing variables to it. Add to that the software team doing their thing.
      These aren't 8MHz through-hole CPUs anymore, running code you can print and fit in a couple pages of a binder. The saving grace is modeling software, that is incredibly detailed but still subject to the limits of the models.

    Ok...so we know there's no tangible difference in frames; however, what about the crashing? Understandably, you used a card that's stable with old and new drivers to compare frames.... but that doesn't help us know whether this new driver resolves the instability. Really, we need a before and after of a card that frequently crashes.

      Its resolved... that's old news.
      The current concern was:...does the driver update nerf performance? The answer seems to be a NO
      (The cause of the crashing problem) The GPU boosts up and down faster than the power delivery could keep up with...this caused voltage spikes and voltage drops... voltag spikes are fine...voktage drops , on the other hand, causes crashing (Voltage drops sometimes as low as between 400mV and 500mV occured).
      Reducing the gradient (the incline) of the boost table (slightly), makes it easier for power delivery to respond to abrubt (sudden) spikes in boost clocks. Problem fixed.

This video was an attempt to make it appear "the viewer misunderstood". EVGA reported to Gamers Nexus their all SP-Cap design is "also" corrected with the new driver, and users across all models that had issues seem to be positive about the new driver. I've been having a PC crash lately and I cannot figure it out. Usually it's while gaming and PC screens go black and sound also goes away after a few seconds but then I hear a strange unfamiliar beep which may be from an error that I cannot view. After this happens the PC stays on and requires a hard reset. some days I game for hours with no issues and then today I boot up and within 10 minutes it crashes repeatedly 4 times in a row. I have tried reseating the GPU and all drivers are up to date on everything. I have tried removing RAM sticks to see if that helps but I cannot figure out what the cause is. Do you think the GPU hardware is failing? Is it software? Bad power or connection? Running windows 11 with RTX 3080, I9 CPU, 32 GB RAM DDR4. I've had this build for a few years except for a few months ago I reinstalled windows on a new m.2 hard drive and updated the RAM from 16 to 32 GB. But after the upgrades the PC ran fine for months before crashing like this.

      The TUF 3080 was crashing the same as others. It's not the capacitors issue (they might play a very minor role here but nothing game changing). Jay jumped the gun and got burned. Really poorly researched and rushed conclusion.

      @@Trigg3rHippie okay so what if it's something else as Jay mentioned like the power supply? If the power delivery to the card is going off a single line with a split, it could be a problem, as stated. Not all PSUs are going to be as good as EVGA and Seasonic. If someone was using a lower grade PSU, or even a PSU with not enough power abilities, it could cause issues.
      My question is, what brand, what rating (gold, platinum, etc.), and what wattage was in the PSUs of the systems being reported with faults, and how many rails were being used?

    • @ReaperX7
      @ReaperX7 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Trigg3rHippie one of the key factors could be simply this...
      What if the power draw is exceeding what the cards were classed at? If this is the case, and since few cards even got any kind of testing, what if these cards are drawing far beyond the specification without warning?
      Jay is obviously using something 850w or better in the test bench, so if it did deliver enough power, even at maximum load, what if people were using 750w or less and with the TDP of the whole system, it exceeded 750w? 750w or less is a pretty common PSU level. Few people really buy higher than 750w because so many build guides say it's not needed, including... PCPartsPicker.

Those glass sidepanels wont stop anything as they are invisible to the transmissions from your cellphone, wifi, bluetooth headphones, garage opener etc etc. So maybe the sleeper build in that old beige case is going to be coming back? :D

    Good video though in order to put the capacitor issue to rest I really wish you'd have chosen a card with all SP-CAPs or 10 MLCC like FE spec. People have the mindset that the TUF would be the least affected card since it was all MLCC, its users with more SP-CAPs that are more likely to believe their cards are now performing worse to compensate for their SP-CAP configuration.
