Just to add to something at 12:49 that I forgot to touch on - The reason the RTX 3080 is so slow is because Octane will allow for OOC (out of core) rendering. This means that whatever doesnt fit in the GPUs frame buffer will use system RAM. GPU using system ram is extremely slow vs using the VRAM. ITs a representation also in what happens in gaming if you have a gaming scene that uses more VRAM than what is available on your card... this is also why the discussion on whether or not 6/8GB of VRAM is enough these days... Just thought I would clarify.

@@himanshumodak Exactly. 2x3080 will actually beat the 3090 at a lower price point in plenty of rendering applications that don't require a lot of VRAM. The 14GB gap between 3080 and 3090, and an $800 difference in price without a really noticeable increase in performance is really odd in this line-up. Now, it is also clear how much of a premium 2080Ti users paid for the first generation RTX card compared to the 3080.

Thank you for doing the "professional" animation / rendering tests. Would love it if you included more of these in the future!! As someone who has the Titan RTX and needs the 24GB for rendering in Maya, Daz 3D, Unreal, Octane, etc. It's really helpful to see these benchmarks. Many of the other video card benchmarkers only seem to only focus on the video game tests so to me this would be a good way to differentiate from them. Thanks again!

In mudbox, projecting 8k textures was the first time I had a really bad time doing anything with 2080 8gb. I'll be keeping my current card for a few years, I think, Jay.
I just finished (3 weeks ago) my 1st build in 28 years (the last one was a 486DX50 in '92, which I still have). I've 'suffered' with laptops, for the last 20+ years, and decided to build a rig to help make retirement more enjoyable (I'll be 67 in a month), considering the LTs won't play games newer than 2005.
Asus Z490-E Gaming, i9-10900K, Corsair 240mm AIO (space limitation, but I'm keeping my eye on temps), 64GB (@2933 as the board has a problem taking it to the RAM's 3600, although it was fine with 32GB), 2x 2TB NVMe PCIe (C & D), 2x 8TB Enterprise-class HDD in RAID1 (E), an external 4TB hardware RAID1 to back up the 2 SSDs (R), a 'lightly used' (via ebay) EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti XC Hybrid Gaming (with factory-installed 120mm AIO), BlueRay burner (F), hot-swap bay for 3.5" desktop drives (G), 1x 140mm and 4x 120mm pushing into the case with 3x 120mm slims pushing out through the rads, Corsair HX1000i PSU, which is all crammed into a cheap(ish) mid-tower, and an assortment of peripherals (Rift S, G29 w/ shifter (I use a PS4 as well), flight yoke, GT Omega stand for wheel/yoke, Elgato capture, yada yada). It even has a wireless remote.
Nothing is clocked, yet, as I expect I can get a couple of years out of it before performance needs a tweak as, to me, it's already blindingly fast. I can always add another 2080 ti in SLI, in a couple of years, when they get dirt cheap (assuming SLI is still a 'thing').

Where I live, a used 1080TI cost about 600 usd, and they are around 350 USD now. I decided to upgrade from a 1070 to a 1080ti for a boost that will last me a bit. I mainly play competetive games and all i need is the stable 240-300fps. Love the direction of this launch relative to the previous 2000 series launch though!

The stock shortage is on purpose to drive the price up. They're gonna go up $50 at the end of the month and then they'll start selling higher VRAM versions for even more money. No way in hell the average person can walk in a store and by a 3080 for $700. All this was well predicted by Moore's Law is Dead.

Those Blender numbers are downright impressive, and for people who use their computers for both work and play...the 3090's value can't be beat, since the Quadros start at $4,000 and go up to $9,000.

BIM software (Revit) works better with the instructions set of gaming cards over workstation cards, that for the minimal amount we have to run AutoCAD we won't be bottlenecked by not having an additional quadro card in our machines. I never buy Titan cards, but always get the one slotted just below that, which has typically been the Ti series. It looks like Nvidia will be eventually launching a new Titan based on locking out those features on the 3090. Plus there’s a high likelihood they’ll eventually release a 3080 Super or whatever they want to call it. So for gamers who want to have the best FPS card but not pay for a Titan and not have another 3080 variant come out that outperforms their 3080 base card, that seems to leave the 3090.
