    So glad you make this series, as I said previously, it's my absolute favourite build series on TH-cam, especially since ChaseOnTwoWheels has started his build series again (which is gonna mostly involve Chase being a twat not knowing what he's doing and letting Brian do all the work because he doesn't know how to use the thousands of tools he has). So when people I know talk about it, I always recommend you to them and they seem to love this series, especially all the work you put in by yourself. Keep it up, dude

      I've spoken to the retro rides guys and they confirmed I can just bend them in with some heat. That's something id rather do with a second pair of hands so I'll just do it with Keith later on. Especially considering I have to move the front gas tank mounts back anyway which will require a very small amount of welding. The forks still slap the gas tank and i can't accurately design a seat until I do that

Mine's pretty basic compared to yours, but it's definitely been a super rewarding process to learn how these bikes work. Electronics are the easy part in my opinion. It seems complicated at first, but it's always going to be consistent. The same fault will always produce the same result. "Power here but no power there? Must be an open". Electricity is special because it *MUST* follow the rules. So once you understand what the rules are, electronics are dead simple to work with. Spend some time online or on your car learning that before you jump into the electrical section- it helps a lot. And if you see a fault that makes you question life itself, remember it can only be an open circuit, a short circuit, or high resistance. Those are the only 3 ways an electrical system can fail (excluding microprocessor faults). Good luck, you got this!

    Haven't finished watching yet, but beware even a 3mm spacer may not be enough. At high speeds, or in left turns the rubber will deform original shape and will rub on that swing arm.

    • @Theillestrator1050
      @Theillestrator1050  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've found some documentation of people not having rubbing issues thus far with a 4.5 wheel. but if they do rub under load, it's often because they removed the spacer according to them. In any case if it does, there's always the 3mm spacer and grinding the inner rib on the swingarm.

    • @johnnym1320

      Im going to bet it's not a problem, at high speed tires don't get wider they get narrower, so clearance in front of the tire is what is needed, more import is the tire center of the chassis?

    Hey man! Loving this build series. The bike is coming along nicely!
    As for the electronics I feel your pain. If you don't know about it already, you should check out motogadget's m.unit, although a bit pricey it greatly simplifies the wiring and does away with the fuses. Also the m.button can help clean up the handlebar wiring.
    Cheers!

    • @Theillestrator1050
      @Theillestrator1050  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes sir that's the plan, but what I'm trying to figure out is how to make it work with the fuel injection and air intake system. Might just have to do a hybrid system. Where maybe just the lights and stuff run off the M unit?

    @ItsDaJax 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's looking good . I'm jealous I don't have a build... other than my Ratrod boardwalk racer(beach cruiser). Thanks for showing how the suspension worked too.
    The electronics won't be that hard. Think about it; cafes are stripped bikes and I'm sure you won't be keeping all the electeic features. Signals, brake light, hi/li headlight, EFI(?), horn, starter. You won't need all those fuses. What you could probably do is run your headlight off one or two relays, or one for the hi beam, to save on parasitic draw. And probably replace some fuses with breakers. I'm not sure about the bikes stator, but an old hotrodder trick is to upsize battery and ignition wires 2-3 guages to drop some electrical resistance. I'm going to be doing some of that on my 1970 Garelli SSXL.

    • @Theillestrator1050
      @Theillestrator1050  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was gonna use an M unit to re wire the bike which will replace those fuses and relays. You have any experience with those?

    • @ItsDaJax
      @ItsDaJax 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Theillestrator1050 I did a quick lil search and ran across this; www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/news-and-views/advice/bike-maintenance/guide-to-motorcycle-electrics/motorcycle-electrics-explained-motogadget-m-unit
      That said; I didn't know about it, but reminds me of a much more simplistic version of the ISIS Electronic Management System for cars. If you do get it; I'd make sure it was 1; easily accessable, 2; protected from getting wet. It could be one of the best things a bike can get. And it's simple- which I like; simple and clean. It even detects faults like the ISIS does. All I can say is give it a shot.
      Doing auto electric isn't all that hard as it looks. Once you get at it, you'll see how simple it is. Especially a bike. Just make sure you get the right guage and length of wires, and don't shortcut or jury rig it. I don't wanna see a "My Cafe Racer Burnt Down" video. I'd actually go up two sizes to be safe on all wires. Electricity flows on the outside of each individual strand, not through them. Too small a wire especially at long lengths causes resistance, which makes heat, that's why at the same size guage a shorter phone charger cable charges faster than a long one. Same for your connections. A bad wire connection creates more resistance and heat. If you're wiring it yourself, I suggest a good solder kit, better than crimp connectors. Water proof connectors(like WeatherPack or whatever the company is) where connections would be exposed, and heat shrink for wherever wires may be soldered together. That's what pro auto electricians do. No twisting wires, electrical tape and crimp connectors, which may get hot and melt.

    In response to you previous video, this is the kind of videos I like. Also, the weird stuff on this motorcycle is so cool. Keep more of it. I understand they don't fit you idea of what the motorcycle is, but their is something interesting there. Also, this is a 80's motorcycle, it lives in odd square lines. Consider a square seat with a little bit of a taper at the back. Don't fit the mold of what a cafe is supposed to look like, add to it, make it different.

    • @Theillestrator1050
      @Theillestrator1050  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like the idea of standing out, but not just for the sake of it. It's always nice when what you like happens to be unique but ultimately I think it's ok if what you do like fits the mold. I think a square seat as shown in the video, with a floating taper wouldn't look right. Id much rather have the seat and subframe taper together. This way the seat can "end" sooner if that makes sense.

      @@Theillestrator1050 Most def, it is your motorcycle, you make look how you want, and it will look cool. I am arguing that styling time period it is from should be re-examined aesthetically. Those lines of the time period it is from is so different from the everything rounded 60s and 70s and the modern "transformer" styling. My opinion though. Keep the videos coming. Can't wait to see how you do it.

    I'm loving it vicariously through you, mate! That's going to be so satisfying to take it out on it's maiden voyage. I can see where you're going with it.
    Being your first big bike project, do you think you'll keep it? Or just play around with it for a while?

    Yoooooo this thing rockkkksss. I really like the welding dude. I would say but this guy did a really good job o.0 and a plus you did it in one day. I am currently waiting for my gas tank to be welded too and that already for 5 weeks :| I just have to paint all the bike parts and reassemble and boom my first bike Restauration.
    I always get so fjsjejdidi inspired when I watch your videos you convey all the enthusiasm you have for the bike really well.

    You are either going to need to have the tebs cut off and rewelded or have a metal place bend them. That thick of steel isn't just going to "heat up and bend" with a propane torch.

    • @Theillestrator1050
      @Theillestrator1050  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've already spoken to the team that designed the kit and they confirmed that they can indeed be heated and bent. I don't plan to use a household torch, I plan to use the same torch we used at the shop to bend the kickstand the same way.
