    Solid video mate,
    I'd be hesitant having the ECU on the top of the block. It'll get quite hot which is a killer for electronics

      I was thinking about using insulation/heat shielding and suspending it off of the block under there. Think that would work? Maybe have a case made for it...🤔

      @@Theillestrator1050 It looks cool, but the type of engineering you would take away from too many of the basics. Rebuild your calipers, rebuild your master cylinder, regrease your final drive, change the brake lines to steel, stuff like that. You have time to poke and prod the ECU and where to mount it. You can figure that out with time dude.

    • @ceasars1997
      @ceasars1997 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I’d say try it out. maybe add a cpu fan and budget some cash to swap out the brains in a year or two if they actually do fry. Custom builds are meant to test the boundaries. Def learn the rules, but just so you can wisely break them.

    • @AtlasAer
      @AtlasAer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I was thinking the same thing. The '07 GSXRs (my bike) have the rectifier mounted under the headers and it's very common for them to burn up. I would find another spot for the CPU.

      +1 on this, especially if you have the older diode style Regulator/rectifier or your injector drivers are inside the ECU box.

    Seriously, I look at how you are doing this build. Without dedicated garages and luxurious surroundings that living in the suburbs, provides. You have a large Aussie following, as noted. One thing I’d like to comment upon. Nice to see the good examples of all peoples attracted to bikes and biking. Every kid in your neighbourhood should be made to spend a day with you. I reckon they would learn lessons for the rest of their life. A more decent and funny guy, would take more than a bit effort to find. Your talents are endless it seems. I used to do this sort of thing but circumstances changes and I now live vicariously through people like yourself. Keep going. With some more attention to simple styling, you could be the next tuner of choice for many. Yes - you are that creative. Maybe God shine extra light upon you and your future.
    To the seven thumbs down, take a little ok at yourselves and reassess your need to do what you did and wake up to yourselves. The like button is to the left, you jealous hyenas. Go take a long hard look at yourselves in a mirror and with all the might in your puny bodies, slap yourself a not reality.

      @@Theillestrator1050 I'd say, fabricating an enclosure for it would be the best way to go as long as there is sufficient ventilation between the radiator and motor. That would also protect it from the weather and other earthly particles (lol). Another thing to add would be some rubber bushings between the ecu and the motor to absorb road shock and vibrations. I plan on fabricating an enclosure which will hold the ecu along with all the fuses in one location. Probably be under the seat, since the original plastic housing has come off now.

    Yo. DO NOT mount the ecu there. The heat from being that close to the engine will kill it over time. Stick it under the seat. And protect it from water. There is a reason they recommend mounting it there.

      @@Theillestrator1050 I'm not sure bro. Where you placed the ecu is basically the hottest place you could put something. You could get one of the laser thermometer things. Zip tie the ecu to the under the seat position just to get it out of the way, for this "test". Then run the engine up to op temp for an little bit and check the temp in that area. I'm just sayin I wouldn't put an ecu that close to a hot engine. Its risky business.

    The ECU is going to be cooked mounted that close to the motor. Needs to be mounted under seat away from motor and be waterproofed somehow, possibly using original box that protects it. Bike is looking good otherwise.👍

    • @consubandon
      @consubandon 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Theillestrator1050 There is no such thing as a perfect insulator. "Insulation" is material that slows rather than eliminates heat transfer, but if everything around the ECU is, say, 180 degrees, the ECU will eventually reach 180 degrees, insulation or no. The insulation time you buy will eventually run out, and some form of cooling (i.e. cool air flow) will have to be brought to bear to remove the heat. Electronic solder joints don't like to expand and contract with heating and cooling. They want to be kept at a steady temperature. If the ECU is in an unfriendly environment, it's gonna be unhappy.

    • @ShadowBoxer
      @ShadowBoxer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Theillestrator1050 In a word: No. At least I don't think that will work long term. I mean you have that thing RightOnTop of the engine. Wow. Although rustic by our times, electronics usually hate heat. It will probably work for a while and MAYBE will work a while longer if moving since some heat will be pulled away. However if you get stuck in traffic... on a hot day, like maybe in July... well, I wouldn't bet on that surviving too long. Stick with the original design which was to basically keep the surrounding temperature as stable and as far from heat (and water) as possible: If it's too hot for your ass, it's too hot for the electronic brain. Always remember the practical and real world situations and environments you and the bike will need to deal with and get through, for example, sitting in traffic sometimes. There is probably a reason that most electronics like fuseboxes, batteries, brains, etc. are somewhere under the seat or at least away from hot things. That's just the first and loudest problem I saw, but I'm no expert. I'm not trying to ruin your dream, I just don't think you want a long walk home.
      That said, I have enjoyed your videos about the bike. I have a fantasy of doing something similar with a K100 some time in the future.
      I appreciate your work and the details you show as you learn on the way.
      Stay Sharp & Stay Up.
      Cheers.

    • @petequinones3454
      @petequinones3454 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      - The illestrator - if you're going to mount it that close to the motor it needs to be shielded from heat and moisture. There's many insulation options out there but they are thick so room might be a problem, only you know how much there's to work with. You've probably seen many tuner cars with a gold or silver heat reflective foil used under the hood to manage radiant heat,and lower temps in certain components. It's relatively thin and easy to use. Good luck, we don't want to see your baby get BBQ'd.

    Your stock injectors are almost certainly just fine! If you're making simple air/fuel adjustments, take off the cover and move the control vane starting position inside of the VAF. because you changed the orientation of the VAF, gravity affects the vane and will change your AFR, even slightly.
    Yep, VAF, not a MAF. volumetric, not mass air flow. the airflow moves the vane and mechanically changes the resistance controlling the fuel.
    By adjusting your control vane location, you can manually tell it that it's getting more (or less) air and increase or decrease your air/fuel ratio.
    Hope it helps!
    edit: mad lever squish with the brakes. Part of that is the stock BMW design, but stainless lines and DOT4 or even DOT5 fluid will help a ton. Much higher modulus of elasticity (amount of force needed to compress the fluid), boiling point, resistance to water, and boiling capacity.
    Dot5 is fine if you have no ABS or stainless lines in the front.
    My good friend with a K100 cafe is using DOT5 all around on his with great results.

    Meanwhile I bought and installed a tail tidy on my Speed Triple, taking the huge plastic undertail section off and undoing, removing, replacing and re-taping all the electrical connections along the way. Got it installed and wired up after an hour and a bit, last step is to take the plate off the old tail and put it on the new one. As soon as the screws were out the thing fell into two pieces, one of which was the short tail tidy I'd just installed. Absolute waste of an hour and a half. Could've just undone two screws.

    It's not just vibration you want to keep that ECU away from but also heat and damp On top of the crankcase and behind the radiator is gonna get pretty warm and runs a fair risk of getting wet.

    • @krazykyle393
      @krazykyle393 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      its a bike, its gonna get wet, the connectors on those usually have orings to seal the connections so the wetness should be okay

    • @ItsDaJax

      @@Theillestrator1050 Like you said; you're not cutting corners, I'd have it nowhere near the engine. The processors will bake in that thing. The bike will look great regardless, let function come first. Where's the computer on your other bike? Under there might work, but heat eventually takes toll on hood insulation on cars, I can imagine being mere centimeters from that block.

Not being an ass kissing fan but besides your delivery and vocals the content is very well written with intelligent mannerisms to to back it up, it's impressive. I have no doubt I'll hear or see you as a sports broadcaster or maybe the Speed channel lol. Seriously though, a voice like yours is god given and can't be taught, it's your golden ticket.

    p.s. There are a lot of videos of people salvaging harleys with that kind of air intake. It's a funnel begging to suck up moisture while driving or rain while parked. You put a lot of work and cash in this to have a suicidal bike. Come up with an air intake that lets air in, but not water. Maybe a shield over it with an opening on the back bottom quadrant?

    I always as part of part research... or just general resesrch; read reviews. I also think they suggest putting the ECU under the seat for heat protection and cooling from under seat air. Didn't notice it was a 4banger, though... wondered why it had missmatched valve covers. lol.
