Altra working on durability of their shoes 😮!!! Well, that is something new 😉. 🤞
We shall see! 😅
Super excited for this. The first two versions have been my go to travel, walk, gravel/road shoe recently. Love em
That increased flexibility in the 3 looks good. I like training in my Outroad but they are dead compared to Hokas. Comfortable but order a size or even two larger.
How refreshing to see flexible Altras again. Maybe someday they’ll win me back
Thanks for the review! Loved the first version as well: Any idea when this new version might be released here in the States?
Thanks! I'm sure they'll be popping up in the next 2-3 weeks 😊
After SIX rejected pairs of the Olympus 6 in store I ordered a different colour online which I received tonight and have had to reject that too. My new Escalante Racer 2s are fine and I like them better than Escalante Racer 1 including for the reason that my heel doesn't slam to the ground even when walking, but the quality issues with the Olympus 6 are beyond a joke. What can't Altra make shoes of consistently acceptable quality?
pyramid steps, gimped traction lugs that's been on hoka etc for some yrs by now.....same as gimped vmegagrip aka maxtrac lol.
Great job !
Looks like the Torin 4.5 🤩 Even have them in that colorway 💯
I can't believe I missed that! You're absolutely right! Altra loves re-hashing old colourways 😅
@@TDMiller They sure do 😄🙏
Hey TD! Do you have any recommendations for an Altra shoe suitable for hard surface? All daily training, leading into some big mileage ultras, all on concrete. Probably need some cushioning for such a hard surface (think multiday events)...
I grabbed the Torin 5 a couple years back thanks to one of your videos, really liked it, but then it was discontinued. Tried the Torin 6 and didn't like it.
I'm also having a hard time finding a good alternative after the Torin 5. That was probably one of the best Torins imho. Since then, I've switched to the Rivera (4), despite it being slightly less wide. Other options are if course the Via Olympus 2, Experience Flow or the to-be-released FWD Via. All 3 aren't in my shoe rotation though.
Great video :) i currently struggling with a shoes, becouse i love Lone peak for hiking, but i cant run with them on trails. I tryied Olympus 5, but the shoe just didnt fit me well. Then i tryied Timp 5, but they are not wide enought for me. Now i tryied Hoka Mafate speed 4, they have exactly cushioning what i need, but again, not wide enough. Do you have any recommendation ? I thinking about Hoka speedgoat wide version
how is the cushioning/ride compared to the Torin 7? I am looking for a replacement of the Torin 7, and I am not sure whether I go for the Flow or the Outroad 3. I need it for daily training/speed workouts.
Thoughts on using a Timp 5 as a hybrid, or should i say, general purpose shoe. No running on pavement, just occasional hikes. I heard Vibrams will wear on wear on pavement, but would this still be a concern if you're just walking? Thanks
I think the Timp 5 is a great choice for casual use. I wear the Timp 5 Hiker daily and love them. I primarily use them on pavement and the lugs have started to wear down, but not to a point of concern yet. I'd imagine the regular Timp 5 will be similar.
@@TDMiller Nice one. I was concerned they would be too rigid.
@@MeisterMurphy the upper of the regular Timp 5 is more rigid than the Hiker, still comfortable though. But that is one reason why I'd prefer the hiker.
Any weird padding along the heel counter? Altra seem to be putting some very obtrusive stuff there...Experience Wild was just too much for me.
@@daniel.konecny not sure what you mean by weird. Do you have any other shoe for reference? The back of the heel feels "normal", but the sides do have extra thick padding at the top, which prevent my feet from slipping out. I guess this is what you mean?
@@TDMiller I mean...Experience Wild have these really thick side padding pannels inside which goes pretty deep down. I had to return them.
Olympus 6?🦋👣
Don't think I'll be testing them myself. I liked the 5s, but didn't feel they'll be good for my weak feet on the long term. I'd feel guilty if I tested them for a few runs and then put them aside, so my main focus is reviewing shoes I'm actually interested in using.
