      I think it's six of one half dozen of the other. While you can go faster w the speed rope you gotta factor in the afterburn calories for the heavy one bc you'll def be doing some burning in recovery

    • @thomasdaddono9234
      @thomasdaddono9234 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      arlanta1 I definitely agree. I compare a speed rope to sprinting across a football field and the heavy rope to pushing a football sled a quarter of the way down the field. This test was basically sprinting a quarter of the field rather than the whole thing.

    @jumpropedudes, ignoring the calorie count, don't forget that building muscle (which you were doing with the 1lb rope) means you burn more calories throughout the day regardless as your muscles develop, because more lean muscle mass burns more calories - even if you're tied to a bed and not able to move!

    I’m wondering how much the heavy rope cuts into your weight training recovery capacity compared to using a speed rope. But if I was gym-less on vacation and could only do one exercise it would probably be a heavy rope. It does two things decently well - cardio and resistance training- at the same time. But doesn’t specialize at either one. If you have access to a gym or weights(and most people do), it might be better to go crazy with the speed rope for maximum cardio benefits, and hit the heavy weights for your resistance training. Just my .02👍
    As always if you have good genetics and good joints, and are on “gear” (a professional athlete with big $ on the line) you can train as hard as you like and still get away with it.

  • @BrianSB

    Laughing since I've using the 1 pound rope for about a week now. Thought it was just me that thought it was crazy hard. In my opinion it feels closer to doing a ser of burpees than an interval with a speed rope.

  • @billclinton6040
    @billclinton6040 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    435 cal vs 396 cal is only a 10% increase in calories burned. However, it's important to recognize that your body is burning calories even when you are resting just to maintain a core temp of 98.6F. Therefore, to get a true comparison between each rope, you need to remove that base calorie burn which for 30 mins might be as much as 50 cal and the increase becomes 13%.

    I can do roughly 2.5 times the rpm with my speed rope vs my weighted rope when doing these short interval routines. The strength development benefits of weighted ropes are real, but I don't think it comes close to a cardio workout when done with high intensity as the speed rope. I also don't want to train my shoulder muscles during my cardio as I have dedicated workouts for those, and the weighted rope is not at all a substitute for a comprehensive shoulder workout.

    This is for the newbies. I bought a rope that detaches and you can add an indoor rope which is simply an 18 inch rope with a ball on the end ($18 Amazon). It is incredible because i don't have the coordination with not tripping over a real rope thus i get a more constant jump and workout. You can also add large nuts(insert joke) to the indoor rope to add more weight.

    Some of those speed ropes have the option to add weights to the grips.
    So they still have the low weight rope but the grips weight goes up to 100g each.
    Isnt it then going more into the direction of a heavy rope with the actual work of a speed rope?
    The heavy ropes seems for me more like a slow skipping rope and the speed rope like it name suggests for faster skipping combined with the option to add more weight to the wrist movement it could be more effective when you used like intended.
    But i am starting skipping just now only interested in whats a better start heavy rope or customizable speed rope and which one i should buy.

    My body burns 250kcal per a 30min workout like this using a one pound rope. I'm 24 yo, 5.2 ft, 110 lbs.

    I tested 1/2 Lb vs 1 Lb today. I am beginner, 5th session for me. My subjective impression: with 1/2Lb, since it is light, it forces me to jump faster and not so high, I can fast jump 50 times. With 1Lb, it is harder to rotate it at the similar fast speed, and it forces me to slow down and *to jump higher*. And in general, upper body has excellent workout. My legs have workout comparable to heavy weight squats (feeling after session). I typically prefer 1Lb but today I decided to do both and compare. I loved 1/2Lb too, I can jump perhaps twice more in same amount of time.
    In general: heavier rope forces to rotate slower and jump higher.

Just starting out with the Get Lean set, and the 1/4 & 1/2 lbs ropes are already challenging for me, but since I received them last week, be doing the thing everyday so far. Love your guys channel, and always look forward to your tutorials and workouts, much respect and love from the 670.

    Yeah, the watch you were using doesn't take into account all the muscles you activate while using the heavy rope, which burns way more calories than the workout you got from the speed rope. It's only able to estimate calories burned from the motion and your heart rate, so since you are used to the heavy rope, your heart rate may not change that much between the two workouts, hence the similar results. Also, you're going to continue to burn calories after you're done with the heavy rope because of the muscle activity more so than the speed rope.

    It is normal that by going at the same jump speed, the heavy rope is stronger than the speed rope. The fast rope allows you to make many more jumps, because it is less expensive at the muscle level. Alternating the use of both is great, the heavy rope can in fact give the necessary strength to give greater explosiveness and intensity when jumping with the fast rope

  • @samsonjatto

    Maybe a calorie test to reps rather than time could show some interesting results. Like 90% effort to hit 1000 jumps on each rope and see the difference in calories and also how much longer or quicker it could be to reach 1000 jumps etc.

    The speed rope is better because they almost burned the same amount of calories but he was really tired after the heavy rope so he can't do it as often whereas with the speed rope he can do it more often as his muscles aren't as fatigued. So over time with the speed rope he will burn more

  • @jlogan2228
    @jlogan2228 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Remember that the heavy rope gives you extra calories burnt after in repairing the muscles vs the lighter rope which is almost pure cardio.
    But best thing to do........both. do some fast speed rope to get the heart up and keep it up , do the heavy to train your muscular endurance

    Heavy ropes, all the way. The great thing about the heavy versus speed rope is that the heavy rope builds muscle, which will continue to burn calories day/night. That just won't happen with the super-light speed rope.

      @fotojak The afterburn effect is a little overhyped, it doesn't actually burn a million extra calories like everyone thinks.
      It's really only like 30-50 extra calories.

    The chronometer cannot take into account things such as muscular exertion due to added weights. It is only making a best guess based off of the pulse rate you sustain.

  • @TPITEOTG
    @TPITEOTG หลายเดือนก่อน

    These measurement devices approximate calorie burns calculation based on research, statistics, your age, weight, and heartbeat. And modern devices may measure oxygen level. Considering your heartbeat using heavy rope was only 10% more, they will show 440 calories instead of 400.
    So, there is error. Consider you activated 30% more muscle groups with heavy rope; then it will be 400+30% = 520.
