If I were a GM my starting 5 would be Scoot, Fultz, Wiseman, Killian Hayes and Josh Jackson. All 27 or younger. All top 5 picks except for Killian at 7. Anthony Bennett is the coach. Nobody is beating that team.
And you lose 70+ games. Scoots best place is mop up in a 30 blow out lose. Just because you are a top pick doesn't mean you should have been. These yt commenters LOVE to bash blk coaches for EVERYTHING…but the litany of mediocre yt coaches ..they get no slander for the HORRENDOUS play of their players. Only blk coaches get that slander.
Imagine if he went to college and got exposed there. It’s clear mentally he struggles, who says he would’ve been able to grow in college? He got generational money from playing against semi pro players lool. He now has 4 years to figure out a way to make him self a serviceable player in the league and have a long career.
He’s 20 years old and in his 2nd season everyone is acting like it’s been 10 years lmao the problem is everyone watches the stat sheet and doesn’t actually watch the game. His playing time and role on the team is inconsistent. Billups plays him off ball which is not how he should be playing. He’s had his best games when he’s the primary ball handler. If Portland wants him to flourish they need to move Simons and commit to Scoot as the floor general and Billups needs to be removed or he needs to help Scoot develop
The only inconsistency in his playtime was due to his injury and him playing like a G league player and got sent there last year for sometime…Portland literally handed him the keys he just couldn’t hack it and he still hasn’t been able to…I still think given a year or two as starting Pg he will improve his game (mostly his shooting and finishing round the rim) but to blame the coach and franchise is just crazy at this point
@@markcastillo3490 That was by idiots though and people who watched him play one game (against Wemby) I follow A LOT of draft stuff and I _never_ got that impression from anyone who took the time to study his tape The only guys who are NBA ready are role players. These TH-cam guys just like saying his nickname, and like saying "generational talent". Most don't know how to assess prospective talent. Scoot's ceiling is Baron Davis. Which isn't bad, but it's not generational.
@@Hereforthelols no they didn’t hand him the keys. lmao I’m a Blazer fan. Anfernee Simons and Shaedon Sharpe have much larger roles. If Simons wasn’t there he would be developing much faster
Rockets fan here Jalen a sg and of course needed to get stronger and develop but he’s doing great this year. We have so much talent that Jalen doesn’t need to average 30 right now, but yeah Scott I believe will take 3 years before we talk about him again
Also think saying he is a bad defensive guard is a sign that he hasn't been watching him under Ime, he is above average at worst (8th best defensive rating at the SG position)
He's a better shooter and playmaker/passer than them. For some reason a lot of people wildly overestimated Scoot's athleticism. I guess cause they just watch highlights. I tried telling people at the time he wasn't REMOTELY close to guys like Morant, Rose, Wall and Westbrook athletically. He's not even DeAaron Fox athletically. His best outcome was always going to be as a defense first guy who can also do some playmaking, be a decent shooter and beat up bench units. (Think Jrue Holiday in Milwaukee.)
Add Bill Simmons to the hype list. I don’t believe Bill has ever seen Scoot play a minute of basketball. He just likes him because he has a cool sounding nickname that would be a great addition to his “White Shadow Fantasy Team of Cool Black Dudes with Huge Afros and Deep Voices”. Bill: “Scoot Henderson is such an awesome basketball name! It sounds like it could belong to one of those quiet, stone faced assassins you might see at Rucker Park in the mid seventies.” House: “Have you ever actually *been* to Rucker Park, Bill?” Bill: (genuinely shocked) “Rucker Park? Heavens, no! I never leave the suburbs.”
He was a much better prospect than Bledsoe. Better shooter, better passer/playmaker. But yes closer to Bledsoe -- or if we're being generous Jrue Holiday or Kyle Lowry -- than Morant, Wall, Rose
0:00 only clueless Americans though that Scoot could have greater potential than Wemby the rest of the world knew that the Frenchman has the level of a future goat
That’s crazy people were really arguing over should a team take wemby or scoot and now we see who’s building a frame now smh hopefully scoot builds more confidence
Well theres a few factors that go into Scoots struggles. 1) the G-League ignite's development program really wasnt as good as people thought, i mean look at even Jalen Green a guy would had huge hype and hes had his flashes but theres holes in his game and bad habits he formed at G league that havent been carved out. 2) While at G-League Scoot showed some passing and shooting upside there was still some inconsistencies. 3) My Blazers really wasnt a good landing spot for too between the pressure of being the new franchise PG after Dame and how great Dame was out the gate and also the fact that they also already had another talented small guard in Simons he had to be prioritized in the starting lineup especially with Scoots shooting struggles. 4) and this the biggest one is just that Coach Chauncey Billups just doesnt believe in Scoot so hes not getting tge consistent reps with starters and with Shaedon. So far, Scoot has been set up to fail too high of expectations and too many guys that need the ball. If they wanna salvage Scoots talent they need to get rid of both Chauncey and Simons ASAP or hes just gonna probably end up being a wasted talent
Naw Jalen Green had far more potential and had a wayyyy better rookie season then Scoot. Also Jalen is one of the stars on his team. His also on a winning team now. Also look at Amen Thompson as well someone who else didn’t go to college….his doing good as well. It’s just Scoot my guy.
@@jessewright8930Jalen Green was given the keys from the very start, not a single game did he come off the bench, started every game of his career. Under Billups there's no serious player development. When given consistent playing time Scoot had success and averaged around 18ppg and 8 assists after the all-star break his rookie season while shooting about 35% from the 3, as Simons was injured most of that time while Blazers were tanking. Expectations were definitely higher of course and it was painful to watch when he has his bad games, but it's still too early to know how good he will be since he's only 20 years old, look at DeAaron Fox stats his first 2 seasons, judging by his numbers you'd never think he'd turn out to be the player he is today.
I think the kid will still be an all-star. As bad as the ignite was as a program, the Trailblazers under Billups, is proving to be an equally disfunctional team.
I choose Ignite for a reason. It may be chosen college if this is not a timing problem. NIL was initiated in june 2021, and he chose Ignite in may 2021. It needs to develop but I am afraid that he would not have this time in NBA.
Point guards take awhile to develop; Russell Westbrook and Scoot had similar stats their Rookie years, Scoot has been a bit more injury prone but it seems like he's still trying to get his second season under his legs. I say give it a couple years of no injury to see what has happened. It's not looking good but they don't call it a sophomore slump for no reason
@@jessewright8930 True but Westbrook was a much better athlete. Most of the guys Scoot was comped to are way better athletes than him which is why the expectations were so outlandish. He's a below the rim guy who _can_ finish above the rim -- think Donovan Mitchell -- _and_ he can't shoot. It was always gonna take awhile.
Here’s my theory on the G-league draft guys. They actually have more space to develop individually than college prospects. So they come into the league with less room for growth than most players, because their individual skills are already close to as good as they’ll get while their teamplay and iq tend to be well behind the college guys. So you end up with these guys who are already near their skill ceiling before even entering the league, and on top of that they have fallen into some terrible habits from playing gleague ball with poor structure…. and thats how you end up with these guys, Scoot, Kuminga, Green - they’ve all got upside but the drawbacks to their game are significantly greater than guts who take a more traditional route to the league. Gleague ignite was the classic double edged sword, scouts just got tricked by the gleam of the blade and the sharp edge, didn’t realize that knife was gonna cut both ways
He shoots 32% from 3 on decent volume and over 80% at the line which indicates he has potential to keep improving as a shooter. As a Blazers fan I don't think he can ever become a bigtime star because he struggles to finish inside and is turnover prone but the shooting and physical traits for defense means not a complete lost cause and can become a decent role player . Right now he wouldn't see the floor for a good team or if he wasn't a top draft pick and think statistically we would have a better outcome giving a bunch of random g league guards a chance hoping for a gem vs giving 25 min a night.
as a blazers fan, we suck, he’s not a bad pick, he’s a bad pick for OUR TEAM! when having ball dominant guards and SFs why would we draft another ball dominant PG? then we have a rookie coach, and a GM that admittedly doesn’t care about winning. if scoot was drafted to a diff team that needed a guard it would have been way different. such as spurs
What do you expect when you play in some crappy g league with zero coaching and no real high pressure games? Just a bunch of stat padding and exhibition-like games that nobody watches. Should have gone to college and actually developed himself properly, both on and off the court.
The way the G League Ignite and it's draft picks panned out is why I will always be a proponent of the G League becoming a legit minor league instead of just a "development" league
Wiseman since Scoot was the #3 pick But Wiseman was drafted that high literally just because he was 7'1" and a good athlete. He was never a good basketball player. Honestly if he had played a full season I don't think he gets drafted that high Scoot was wildly overvalued by casual fans but he was a safer pick than Amen at 3 even though I would have taken Amen
this is what I call "Jordan Clarkson" extremely talented isolation skinny guys that all can do is score I'm pretty sure with age they can gain a little footing but it's really hard to get over that habit
As a Blazers fan who hates college sports, I called it that Brandon Miller was the superior pick, and that Charlotte if they were smart, would pick him and not Scoot, while also saying Scort is way overhyped and won't pan out well. I once again, was not wrong. I have a knack for that s**t. It's literally a vibe I get, the more talked about and hyped a prospect is, the more I know they're not gonna be remotely as good as they claim, while the more criticized they are while still being a relatively big named prospect, the more I know they're probably gonna be solid players. I think it subconsciously is also the specific keywords and way they each get spoken of, that furthers that intuition. It is wild to realize Scorch may in fact be as bad as last season right now, while genuinely feeling and believe he has improved notably. I watch every Blazers game (that is if I can), and Scoot really has looked notably improved this season. Better decisions, better playmaking, more aggression when attacking, better shooting ability, even reduced tendency to foul when defending, which itself is definitely a marked improvement. That noted, the realization is that there is a chance it only looks and feels that way, because I'm getting used to horrible basketball with this team, and thus the bar is so damn low that I see improvements that most won't, and won't show up statistically in our guys. That's sad if so haha. At least we have Toumani who genuinely has rapidly improved, as I always said he would. SO MANY people insisted to me he was only playing as dedicated and hard as he did last season because he was a second rounder, and just wanted to make sure he gets paid, and that he therefore would eventually move to play way softer and more lazily if he came to achieve a guaranteed payday and spot on the team. Meanwhile I constantly fought such a notion, as I could tell that is genuinely just who he is as a player, knowing fully he'd vastly improve year over year, and that he'd continue his intensity and sheer defensive dominance every single possession. He is pure passion, and will never give up on any play on either side of the ball ever. That's exactly why I knew he'd keep playing the same way and improving. It takes one to know one!
@@frumpyducky7403 No certain way. I saw that he came from a rich family, who put a load of money into him and his basketball work for years though, which pretty much sealed the deal for me he'd be better than a load of these other guys who are hyped way up, but clearly lack what it takes to truly be elite. I also saw how he was doing a lot of mobility and durability workouts that to even long standing trainers and players were alien and foreign to them, like his weird toe crawls and the like, and that to me indicated he might just manage to have durability most guys at his size don't. I liked that they had him focusing on super specific, isolated joints and muscle groups like that. That combo to me told me overall, he had better chances of actually being solid if not elite. And then playing with and being around all these French legends also definitely helped him a lot. But overall, I was rather reserved on my feelings toward him.
I think your evaluation of Scoot is accurate. I've watched considerably less Portland than you but the results back up what you are seeing. Scoot's public perception was just really far off from reality. His NBA results are perfectly in line with what he did with Ignite
@@michaelahurt It also helps to know about the "Sophomore Slump", which is your very normal situation most second year guys go through, though Scoot really hasn't managed to slump from his rookie season yet (of course that would be really hard to do for how low of a bar overall he set of himself)
@ sophomore slump isn’t a law of nature. Lol. Typically guys who were good in year one get a fat head because think they did something or their role is expanded and they “regress” Neither apply to Scoot Said regression also isn’t reserved just for year two. Like DeAaron Fox, Luka and LaMelo regressed in year 3. Jokic and Giannis never regressed. Each player and situation is different
You either have it or you don't. He's a solid player, just hasn't transitioned the way he was hyped to be. Look at how players come from lesser divisions and become better then players from power 5 schools. It's really a hit or miss.
I’d put some blame on Billup’s coaching and coaching staff. Is Billups known as a player development coach? I bet if he were traded to the Pistions Coach Bickerstaff could bring out the best in Scoot and develop him.

Saying Jalen Green is a bad defender right now tells me all you know about basketball he is not the same defender that he was in the G league the Rockets wouldn’t be 24 and 12 with that bad of a shooting guard.
He needs to find a new team where he can develop into better player before his window closes. Too many young players in the Blazers and they’re known for poor development. Lowly was in same situation and soon as he was traded to Raptors he became a legit player
They have Malcolm Brogdan. And their coach is Chauncey Billups If you can't learn how to run PnR with those two you can't learn it. The big thing for him is the jumper. Once that comes around the rest of it will unlock.
@@michaelahurt Brogdan is in Washington dude. Billups is head coach. That’s very different to having a mentor who is a current player who knows the modern game. Especially on court or on the bench while things are happening in the game. HC isn’t really in charge of player development. They have to look after the whole team.
@Thecatdad007 Yep completely forgot about that. But he was there last year. Fair enough but my point is it's not like a Jalen Duren situation where there is _no one_

AAU and sites ranking kids early need to be curbed or at least monitored. 1) AAU is nothing more than a marketing ploy for the coaches and for kids to play as many games as possible. These kids get recognition, but they are developing their skills like they use to. You can see totally see it when it comes to international players versus these kids. Mikey Williams, DaJuan Wagner, Elliot Cadeau, Isaiah Collier, Justin Edwards, Dariq Whitehead were all once considered to be top 3 picks once they declared. Most struggled their first year in college and stayed, some have transferred and yet to do much, and Justin Edwards who was probably the first #1 prep player to not even be drafted. 2) the rankings are silly now, because these kids are graded and some just think their ranking is good enough to take them there. There is a reason why international players are getting better, and pretty soon will be the dominant force in the league.
Rockets 2nd in the West. Jalen Green is their leading scorer. Jalen Green played Great against the Mavs, Celtics, Lakers the last 3 games Avg 28 points. Get up to date, Jalen Green learning Ime Udoka offense is difficult to learn, plus Fred VanVleet is a undersized SG playing PG. Jalen Green playing Lead Guard handling the ball is making himself score 30 points a game.
he has not been good but ive never liked the idea of trashing a player bc the scouts and media dont know the game like they thought they did. his athleticism was never on the level of ja or westbrook. and you can only tell so much from g league games anyway.
Green is a decent defensive guard this year and a starter on a good team…..he needs to continue developing. The G League was terrible at developing players. Green was a team basketball idiot when he got into the league.

He'll be fine. Chauncey Billups had a slow start then carved out a HOF career. He's playing for the right coach.
There could not possibly be a worse coach for him. He actually stands off ball in the corner more than he gets to play PG. Billups is giving him worse treatment then he received to start his career and he moaned about that for 15 years.
Damion Lillard is another 6'3 in shoes guard who finishes under the rim. So is Steph Curry. They are also the greatest shooters of all time. This freezes people opening up the driving lane. You don't need to be the greatest, but you need to be a good shooter.

As a Cavs fans living 35 minutes away from Cleveland, we was happy to have him they just didn’t know how to use him! The minute Colin went down DG took off! If u actually know the league or basketball period you’d know the system can make or break a player! I could sit and name drop hella players who was looking ass till a trade or coach change. Or the other way around, players that looked decent then change teams and struggle to stay in the league! Not to mention scouting don’t really work like it use to it’s too much talent to really evaluate a player. They a watch a few games but then try to see em basically run drills. Scoot a great combine (measuring and vertical) type player. But u can’t find a Jokic like that. Even the eye test a fool u fr when they playing competition that’s sub par! That’s why NCAA still got the upper hand. It’s a bigger talent pool and way more live looks against competition. The gleague was a way for the league to stop players from going over seas for a season like Melo did. That was greed so they don’t care of the player truly developed enough. They jus want to keep the talent here fr

I know we're all clowning on the G-League, but let's not pretend this is the Portland Failblazers. They wasted Dame for an entire decade. He can pay for college now
@@mikekeyes78 even so, it's not even close to be the best option
Imagine if he went to college and got exposed there. It’s clear mentally he struggles, who says he would’ve been able to grow in college? He got generational money from playing against semi pro players lool. He now has 4 years to figure out a way to make him self a serviceable player in the league and have a long career.
@@mikekeyes78Thompson twins didn’t go to the g league. They played for ote
Problem was he was touted as the most NBA ready propect of his draft class.
@@markcastillo3490 That was by idiots though and people who watched him play one game (against Wemby)
I follow A LOT of draft stuff and I _never_ got that impression from anyone who took the time to study his tape
The only guys who are NBA ready are role players. Even the best on ball players -- Luka being a perfect example -- are gonna suck for at least two months. Most suck for like 3-5 years.
As soon as he made that comment about the food in Portland being his biggest takeaway from his rookie season I sold my remaining Scoot stock
The problem is very very clear: Chauncey Billups.
Agree, how does he keep his job?

Damian Lillard: _This guy is my replacement?_
5:48 that's not even Scoot in the pic
On God😂
His most probable outcome would be Dennis Smith Jr. now. It might improve to Eric Bledsoe in the best case scenario.
Very well comps there
He's a better shooter and playmaker/passer than them.
All those Comparisons are laughable, i always saw him as an Eric Bledsoe level player at best
Fact, only ESPN tried to hype up this guy right before the draft.
It sounds like it could belong to one of those quiet, stone faced assassins you might see at Rucker Park in the mid seventies.”
House: “Have you ever actually *been* to Rucker Park, Bill?”
Bill: (genuinely shocked) “Rucker Park? Heavens, no! I never leave the suburbs.”
That’s what I’m saying!
Most of us Americans knew Wemby was better and truly special but yea just make it about that
Scoot's game is terrible imho.
That’s crazy people were really arguing over should a team take wemby or scoot and now we see who’s building a frame now smh hopefully scoot builds more confidence
People are idiots
But I agree with everything else for sure
As bad as the ignite was as a program, the Trailblazers under Billups, is proving to be an equally disfunctional team.
ppl were talking like he was the next Russ. I was saying Eric Bledsoe, and its not like he was a bum

Dude compare Russel first 2 year stats to Scoots. Not the same
@@jessewright8930 True but Westbrook was a much better athlete.
As a blazers fan it hurts knowing we could have had amen or ausar Thompson
This is Trailblazers bad Karma for not sending Dame to Miami even the trade package would’ve been better hope all blazers fans are happy now 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
If I were you I’d report flight Mike for stealing and copying you content word for word
The way the G League Ignite and it's draft picks panned out is why I will always be a proponent of the G League becoming a legit minor league instead of just a "development" league
I don't know if you have noticed it, but his athleticism and confidence all had gone away after he got injured in his Summer League debut.
His minutes are down AND they’re inconsistent at the same time, so we have to take his stat decline with a grain of salt here.
Who was a worse #2 pick - Scoot or James Wiseman
Great point
Wiseman since Scoot was the #3 pick
But Wiseman was drafted that high literally just because he was 7'1" and a good athlete. He was never a good basketball player.
Honestly if he had played a full season I don't think he gets drafted that high
Scoot was wildly overvalued by casual fans but he was a safer pick than Amen at 3 even though I would have taken Amen
Garland was not one of the worst players in the NBA that’s a bad example
this is what I call "Jordan Clarkson" extremely talented isolation skinny guys that all can do is score I'm pretty sure with age they can gain a little footing but it's really hard to get over that habit
TBF scoot has way more physical tools than JC , JC is def worth the production to the spot he was drafted imo
Scoot isn't skinny. And he's a real PG not just an iso guy.
But until he can shoot he's going to struggle in PnR
Him getting drafted to the blazers is whats hurting his stock. The blazers have NO DIRECTION.
portland did not help scoot to get better,
Absolutely terrific content. If you don’t make it it’s just because people are too stupid.
How did you feel about wemby?
Lol.
Typically guys who were good in year one get a fat head because think they did something or their role is expanded and they “regress”
Neither apply to Scoot
Said regression also isn’t reserved just for year two. Like DeAaron Fox, Luka and LaMelo regressed in year 3. Jokic and Giannis never regressed. Each player and situation is different
Jamen Green is actually playing well this season and his defense is fine now.. he has not plateued
Trailblazers are either unlucky and just dumb in drafting players lol
chauncey billups! 3:rd pick. never forget. he panned out pretty decent
i commented on a reddit post about scoot last night. at least they have afernee
So how is sharpe developing but not scoot? Both was drafted and coach under billups

He needs to find a new team where he can develop into better player before his window closes. Too many young players in the Blazers and they’re known for poor development. Lowly was in same situation and soon as he was traded to Raptors he became a legit player
There is no one there to mentor this kid, other than the coach. They don’t even have a starting point guard. He will do better in a different program.
They have Malcolm Brogdan. And their coach is Chauncey Billups

There is a reason why international players are getting better, and pretty soon will be the dominant force in the league.
i mean jokic kinda be dominant yeah
Scoot was destined to fail in Portland from the beginning with 2 young promising guards already on the roster in Sharpe and Simons

Worst coach in the league.
There could not possibly be a worse coach for him. He actually stands off ball in the corner more than he gets to play PG. Billups is giving him worse treatment then he received to start his career and he moaned about that for 15 years.
Darius Garland was one of the worst players before he became an allstar? What... lol
Yea that made no sense 2me

Damion Lillard is another 6'3 in shoes guard who finishes under the rim. So is Steph Curry. They are also the greatest shooters of all time. This freezes people opening up the driving lane. You don't need to be the greatest, but you need to be a good shooter.
But Jalen Green is so pretty, didn't you see her 💅 👌
Darius was never ass dude 🤦🏾♂️ he was in a dumb ass two pg system with Colin Sexton that hid him off ball most the time!

If Scoot was on a team like the Spurs or the Heat, he'd either be slowly improving or he'd be let go already. I think he would've improved.
