    There is nothing about this process that looks fun. It’s like the truck is fighting the mechanic every step of disassembly.

      A shop down the road from me had to come and get a 10 ft by 10ft by 6inch plat to chain to the truck in some way. Then the had a come along hocked on so that when the pumped it the two would separate. On top of that we lent the our rose bud torches to heat every thing , the pin never came out and the put everything in new

    Your homemade tool for taking off the brake shoe return spring is badass. Simple but effective! Great video overall. My only gripe is using the wheel bearing nut socket on an impact...

    Good video, I had the machinist turn down an old set of king pins to use as a guide. It lines up all the shims and bearing. The new king pin can follow behind. I haven’t done it yet but I was thinking about recessing the guide kingpin and putting a super strong earth magnet in the recess. The new kingpin would stay butted up and nothing could shift. Keep up the good work.

    • @SAMinMass
      @SAMinMass 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      How exact was he on turning the guide pins down? This sounds like a great idea.

    • @stephenp1717
      @stephenp1717 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SAMinMass I am not totally sure what you mean. Basically he just removed material from the first third or so of the old king pin. Enough so if the shims are out of alignment less than half it would straighten up the whole stack of shims with the king pin following behind. As the guide pin goes through, you hold pressure on the bottom or tip of the guide pin. The king pin will stay with it and the shims won’t get out of alignment. Sorry if that was too much info. I am sure you know how to do it. Just figured I would put it out there. Idk how to put a picture on here but if you know how and want a picture of them let me know.

    Seems that today was your lucky day. I have had the end of the axle beam glowing red before the K/pin would come out and never mind having to drill out the cotter pins. Here in the UK a king pin would never get that worn, all trucks and buses undergo a full Ministry inspection for roadworthiness every 12 weeks. A good video thought, thanks

    The tire wear really wasn’t bad even with that much play in the kingpin. So I guess worn out kingpin has no effect on tire wear after all.

    • @bobginn9141
      @bobginn9141 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      yes it does,as the kingpins wear the camber gets more negative wearing the inside of the tire out. The toe also toes out wearing on the tires.
