I'm working at a pharmacy. It's a small one and I work alone for the most of the times. Once I had multiple customers waiting patiently to be attended and the phone was ringing and ringing and ringing. Finally I managed to answer and a male karen started to berate me because I didn't answer immediately to His Majesty. I informed I was BUSY and I'm not giving excuses. He went ballistic so I just hung the phone. An hour or so this man came and tried this crap again. I asked three times what he wanted. He went ballistic again and demanded a formal excuse. I said nope and called the cops on him. "Go bother someone else with your questions".

If you wanted to keep your job you would.
A good rule of thumb in CSR is the rule of three. If you hang up at the first sign of rudeness it is considered call avoidance and which is an automatic termination in most call centers. But with the rule of three what the people who listen to your calls hear is you engaging with the customer in a professional manner, attempting to help the customer and finally you informing the customer that if they continue to be abusive you will have to disconnect the call more than one. That is the thing about call centers, they DO NOT have your backs and will ALMOST ALWAYS side with the customer.

I can sympathize with the last girl. I was in the end of a divorce when I met the man who is now my husband. Because of the stress, I had developed a bleeding ulcer that had put me into the hospital for a week and then my hair fell out. When we met, I was wearing a wig. When we decided to go have some private time, I knew that wig would come off so I told him that I was wearing it and I was terrified he would laugh...or worse. I slipped a finger under the wig and pulled it off. And the guy smiled the biggest smile and said "OMG, I'm dating Sigourney Weaver!" (a reference to her haircut in Aliens). That was the best response EVER and we ended up getting married six months later and it's now 30 years and I treasure that little episode.
The Bridesmaid hopefully cast that KarenBridezilla to the wind and forgot about her. I hope her hair has grown back and is healthy. The nerve of that woman to be such a.....well....anyway, she was horrid to someone who should have gotten the love and acceptance that she deserved as a friend. Third story update happened to me (debit rather than a credit) : I contacted my insurance company through email, freaking out (politely, may have used too many "!" and "?") about a charge for ~100$+... then, after the initial state of shock from discovering the charge and slightly woken up by it (had spent the better part of the week barely sleeping 4 hours and being sick), I realized it was a deposit rather than a withdrawal. I quickly replied to my first email and apologized for my confusion and thanking them for their time. I got a happy email saying they were glad the issue had been solved.
Keep in mind one simple thing when contacting someone for help : Your issue is in their hands, if it's not, they (probably) know who to contact to solve it. Or at least nudge you in the right direction.

Story 3: Having worked in call centers doing tech support and customer service, I'd say different companies attract different amounts of "karens". The worst I ever dealt with was doing tech support for a major cellular service provider. Back then, massive data overage fees, huge penalties for ending contracts early, and other "delightful" fees were rather common, and customers would get sent to tech support with the vague promise that "If tech can find something wrong with your device, we can waive the fees". Now, you'd think if they're wanting tech to do them a favor, they're going to be nice, cooperative, maybe with $500 on the line, do an online search so they know the right lies to tell us to get the desired result. Nope. The majority seemed to think that they'd get their way by yelling, screaming, making threats, slinging insults, and basically being rotten human beings. I was able to get most to calm down and let me help them at least, but dealing with so much abuse every work day for years got old and I eventually switch to a call center with more civil customers.

The gas station Karen sounds like several levels of WTF. 1. How did a school principle get rich enough for all the lavish clothes and jewelry? Schools don't pay THAT well, even for principles. Many teachers barely make ends meet. Education is not a lucrative career below post-secondary. 2. How, at her age, did she not realize how the world works, how gas stations work? Even simple Full-Service stations have pretty much gone extinct, much less all the over-the-top service she was asking for, and for free no less. As if. 3. Why didn't she just call AAA? They have roadside breakdown service and will bring cans of gas if its a fuel call. Many auto insurance policies include AAA roadside service as part of the package, and for those that don't drivers can still utilize the service, though it costs more. If she called AAA, she could have gotten some fuel without leaving her car at the side of the road, skipped the taxi, had no need for towing, and would have spared herself the humiliation and ban.

I also don't know anyone who could, or would, spend that much time and money on a wedding, and make those kinds of demands on their wedding party. I've only heard of Bridezillas that do this, and the groom is often not part of the planning, later to be blamed for something he had no part of because he was told not to have any part in the planning. Had my wife pulled that crap, she would not have become my wife. I dealt with a bridezilla when I was hired by her mom to be the photographer at her wedding. I think it was a combo of the heat of the day, about 90*, the church lighting was weird, the reception hall a/c wasn't working (we found a bunch of tall fans in a storage closet), the cake was delivered late and had reefer ashes all over it, and her grandpa was dying of cancer. I was able to get a few nice pics of her dancing with her grandpa, which her mom told me later were her favorite ones of all, as he sadly passed away just a few weeks later. Real bridezillas are only showing their true colors, but most bridezillas are that way because they're stressed out by everything going on that day.

There is actually an update to the last story. OP filed her claim in December 2021 and got a court date of Feb 7, a virtual small claims trial. OP created a file with her trail of evidence, and shared it with both the court and the bride a week before the hearing. The bride did show up, but hadn't shared her own file the way she was supposed to. The judge made the bride share it, and the format was copied exactly from what OP had shared the prior week. The session took just 10 minutes, but in OP's state they do not share the verdict for up to 90 days. It wasn't until May that OP finally heard that she had won the verdict and the bride had to pay her $808.94, and was crossing her fingers that the bride did not appeal the judgment. She also said that her hair and health are doing much better and that her formerly bald patches are growing back nicely.

haha, I've been there (minus the raised voices). my bank doesn't charge late fees for scheduled same day transactions between accounts at the same institution, but it doesn't always make the transactions on the same day. For some reason, when this happens, they automatically credit you with the refund of the late penalty BEFORE the system actually charges the fee the account.
The first time, I called in and I was upset because I was charged a fee even though I had scheduled a payment (lolol, I was 18/19 and I was freaking out because I thought a late payment meant that my credit would be rUiNeD 4EvER). I think I was prepared to have to escalate, to speak to a manager, write letters to the CEO, or whatever, and the rep gently told me to look down a few lines on my statement. 😅 She explained their weird system to me and didn't even call me a blind dumbass for missing the credit.😆

While I was probably unique in this, and ultimately very good at it, I would always find the right combination of words to make what would seem a harmless comment, but one I was sure would push the angry, uncooperative customer over the edge. Why would I do this? Because, it was a choice of letting them blow up, after which they would almost always be calm, apologetic, and ready to work through whatever the issue was, or I could spend another hour or more letting them remain on the edge of blowing up. Of course, with OP in the story, it sounded like the customer already was digging in at them... but made me recall "fun times" from the now., happily distant past!

And usually I get a supervisor. I'm polite, but firm, and always manage to work it out. A bunch of crazy stuff went wrong at our wedding. Nobody cared. For example, the guy who was supposed to unlock the fire hall where we had our reception got his signals crossed, so the guests and caterer had to wait outside in their cars (was raining) until I got there with my keys. So what?
My Lady Wife was like the anti-Bridezilla. When the catering guy at the supermarket didn't return her calls, she got ahold of his manager and politely said, "We really want your store to cater our reception. But if your guy doesn't get back to us by X date, then I'm sorry, but we need to find somebody else." Manager apoligized and said "He WILL call you by X time tomorrow." And he did. Problem solved. Zero drama.
Only real drama was when a coworker of my Wife's (not even a friend) tried to insert herself as wedding planner. My Lady Wife was doing the tiny amount of wedding planning that was needed, as her MOH lived in New Jersey (We're in upstate NY) and had two kids to look after. The coworker insisted that she should do the wedding planning, is it wasn't right the MOH wasn't doing it. Basically wanted to arrange our wedding the way she wanted it. No, my wife did NOT want fru-fru centerpiece thingys or any of that nonsense. Her MOH was already making custom silk flowers as a wedding present. I think coworker thought she could weasel her way into being MOH!
My wife kept politely but firmly shutting her down. Last straw was when the coworker called me to tell me about the surprise bridal shower she was throwing for my wife, so I could get her there. WTF?
First, my wife was already going to have a bridal shower. At our house. (FIL and I went down to the fire hall and watched baseball.)
Second, my wife HATES surprise parties.
Third, my wife would NEVER have picked that restaurant. An overpriced steakhouse is the absolute LAST restaurant we would ever pick.
Fourth, who the heck was coworker planning on inviting? She didn't know any of my wife's friends!
Wife shut that down HARD. Cue tears from the coworker. "Boo hoo hoo I was just trying to help." Nope. We joke that you need to keep my Lady Wife away from breakable objects when she's angry- cities, mountain ranges, that kind of fragile stuff. ;-)
Drama over, and the wedding happened.

The people at the gas station were kind enough to loan me a gas can (I paid for the gas) and give me a ride to the highway. It's strange, but not once did I even consider putting the blame on them. The truth is, I felt more than a little stupid for letting my vehicle run out, and I was glad to get the help. How can anyone be that self-centered?
Story 4 - I have to wonder if "Karen" has planned her marriage as carefully as she planned her wedding? I'm no prophet, but it doesn't take a prophet to foresee a lot of heartache in the future for her and her poor sap of a husband. When I was a kid, I was the ringbearer in my cousin's wedding. The man who was scheduled to sing at the wedding came down with laryngitis a few days before the big event, so he had to cancel. Bridezilla didn't deserve even 1/10th of the kindness that OP showed her! That stipulation in the court order seems to indicate the court is clueless about what had happened in the case! #2 I'm willing to bet anything that Bridezilla & her Hubzilla won't bother to pay what the court has ordered, & OP will have to take them back to court to get them to pay what they were ordered to pay her. Getting even a dime out of them will probably take years of time & energy from OP, but I hope OP makes all that effort anyway, because Bridezilla & Hubzilla are counting on getting away with never reimbursing OP due to it being so much trouble for her to make them, & I'd HATE for them to get away with it when they've treated OP SO shabbily after everything she did for them! I had someone lie to me to get me to open 4 hours early (lived above the store with a parcel counter which did get boxes with meds too) because they claimed they were there for meds. it turned out to be -censored- SHOES! needless to say that was the first and last time I threw someone a bone.

For the store Karen, tell her you CAN let her in, but there's a "personal shopping" fee beyond closing. its $500/hour payable in advance, minimum 4hours. Also she has to pay the employee checking her out's overtime. at $100/hr. again in advance. So that'll be $2400 in cash BEFORE you even start shopping.

The first is funny because most stores are closed at early times during holiday events and the only place I that know would be open longer is a gas station which is something I learned from experience on Christmas Eve.

Last story...I'll never understand why brides feel the need to be so controlling over the esthetics of the brides maids. You pick the dresses...let these women do everything else! They are INDIVIDUALS. Let their hair, makeup and jewelry reflect that! (Within reason)

    Story 4
I had to "fire" one our bridesmaids. Not because of her hair but because her and my brother had broken up and we all thought it was best (even her) to remove her from the wedding party.
Paying her for her expenses was without question, and we let her do what she wanted with the dress.

The bridal industry SALIVATES over crap like bridezilla was dishing out. Bridezilla was sold the idea that a wedding day HAS to be a. Expensive, b. Perfect, c. A power trip and possible deification of the bride.
    WRONG on all counts.
Repeat this mantra for a better bridal experience,
"I want a good MARRIAGE more than the wedding."

Story 3: Karen was trying to swindle the insurance company. There was no overcharge, which is why she couldn't provide evidence. The reason she was so angry is that she was balked and wouldn't be getting the $50.00 she was counting on.

    Story 3
I do not pity this guy. If anything I think he was an idiot. I understand wanting to help, but when you get nothing but insults and zero information other than "trust me", I would of just ended the call. Keeping these idiots on call just wastes everyone's time! Sitting there taking all that abuse for ultimately nothing is stupid.

Bridezilla’s are crazy. They and their grooms seem to forget their wedding is only one day, their marriage is, hopefully, a lifetime. Unless they’re extremely wealthy, why become monsters while paying & expecting their family and friends to pay hundreds and sometimes thousands for a one day event when that money could be spent on their forever home? So wish they’d get a clue their special day isn’t as important as their special marriage that could last a lifetime if they could see beyond their “dream wedding” expectations.

The old lady at the gas station is still living in the 60's and full service gas stations. My husband has a hearing problem and sometimes the accents can really throw him off so if I am not there to help he can have a very hard time understanding the person and has been insulted by them because they assume he is being a asshat even after he explains.
