If you brown your meatballs first, it gives them a nice crust on the outside, and then finish them in the crockpot.

This is what I always do. Brown them in the oven then add sauce. Looks great though.

I also brown mine first. Sometimes in a frying pan and sometimes in the oven on a cookie sheet.

@ThisAlaskaLife also, think of your crockpot like your oven. Every time you take off the lid, you have to build the heat back up. I think the rule is to add 15 min cooking time each time you open it.

One thing I have found with making meatballs is to make a small test meatball and fry it up and check the seasonings before making them all. I do prefer to brown them too before finishing them in the sauce. Love the cheese in the middle idea

I recently found your AK cruise videos and have started watching your others... you are the first I randomly came across who has the same fridge and stove I do (except mine is electric)! I love my fridge! Only have had it a few months since kitchen remodel. I have been using Rao's for years, I love it... but I have noticed the sugar/carb content go up quite a bit on the label. Not sure if they originally labeled it wrong or something changed. It helps (especially with lean meats and when we skip the bread crumbs sometimes too... I know I know lol) to sear the meatballs in a pan before adding to the crockpot. I think they stay together a bit better, and this starts them cooking before hand. Lovely family!

I was going to day the same. Next time brown the meatballs in a frying pan first or you can even bake them in the oven. It also cooks of some of the grease but in your case there is probably little with the meat being so lean. I use to do the frying pan way until I tried baking them. So much faster, easier and just as good. I make them often and freeze them. I have yet to find a store brand as good was mine...LOL!
Everything looked wonderful!!!! I am going to need to put a box together for you. I am actually from 2 states as I know many are. The one I was raise in and the one I currently live. Both have 2 very specific items they are known for. I will work on it. I am curious to how you and the family will like them. I will include more information when I send.

    Good Morning Hamm Family ❤️
It's a sunny, yet chill, 63°F here in Virginia. We've got the house opened up. I'm not complaining, but to be honest, I'd trade it for a blizzard right about now. They're predicting a few inches of snow on Sunday... I'll take it, but I won't hold my breath ❄️
I don't know why it's so hard for me to just type a short comment... too many good things to comment about I guess. I hope you don't mind my ramblings 😊
I'd love to try some Moose meat. I've had Bison, Deer, Rattlesnake, Alligator and Frog Legs, but no Moose or Caribou. I wouldn't eat Bear, nor some of the aforementioned because, for us, they're not Kosher. Those meatballs looked yummy. Next time, pre-saute them in a cast iron skillet, then add to the sauce; slow cook for 4-6 hours or stovetop until cooked to desired temp. Rao's sauce is delicious. If you are adding canned diced tomatoes to your jarred sauce, pour the juice into the Rao's jar to get all the bits. It's better than water. Cute pasta 🍝
Always nice to see Mark and the boys in the kitchen. Mark is the most relaxed cook ever. LoL. Great job on the fish and cobbler. The Cajun Box has a lot of tasty mixes. If you like a little Cajun kick, buy a can of "Slap Ya Mama" seasoning. I put that stuff on fowl, fish, rice, potatoes... anything really. Interesting choice for a cobbler... the banana not the apples. My favorite is a good old fashioned Peach Cobbler. Before baking, sprinkle with Turbinado sugar for a little sweet crunchy texture 😋
I'll have to try your sugar cookie recipe. The frosting shortcut is a great idea. I'd make vanilla, chocolate, strawberry frostings (or other flavors) and set it out with a variety of add-ons: crushed nuts, sprinkles, mini M&Ms, etc. A Sugar Cookie Bar 🍪
Egg Roll in a Bowl. Interesting. I'll have to try. Yes, you can use a spoon to peel ginger, or when I can't find ginger or don't feel like peeling, I use Ginger Paste... found in the produce section 🍚
You've got me wanting to make more homemade Vanilla Extract and Vanilla Bean Paste. I guess I'll be heading to the ABC store for Vodka and over to Amazon to order vanilla beans 🤔
My two favorite "healthy shakes" are:
Protein Shake: Chocolate Whey Protein Powder, Almond Milk, Collagen, and frozen Bananas 🍫🍌
Green Shake: Dr Schultz's Superfood, Collagen , Flax Seed, 2T concentrated Orange Juice, frozen Bananas, frozen Mixed Berries (Blueberry, Blackberry and Strawberry), cold water 🥬🍊
I love your cooking/baking videos, especially when the family is involved. More please 😁
    Bennett is a hoot 🦉
Hi Miss Luna... head scratches and hugs you beautiful Lil Snuggle-bug 😻
    Have a great day. Yah's Blessings ❤️

What distinguishes one meat from another as being kosher or not?

    • @SusanMatthews_TiteChatte
      @SusanMatthews_TiteChatte ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@marykoufalis7666 , must have split hooves and chew the cud (mammals); must have both fins and scales (fish). There are other, more in-depth determinations, but that's an easy start. We're Kosher, but not Rabbinical/Orthodox Kosher. We don't follow a Rabbi and we're not Jewish. We're Messianic Hebrew Roots.

@@SusanMatthews_TiteChatte So no seafood correct? Since birth until present I have lived in a heavily Jewish Orthodox neighbourhood in Montreal. I'm very familiar with many of the rules and laws but once in awhile something new comes up. Thank you for answering my question. Be well.

@@marykoufalis7666 , you're very welcome, and correct, no seafood (shellfish and the like). Yah's Blessings.

Glad others added to brown the meatballs. Lol I still thought yours liked so yummy!! Question where did you get your containers at your smoothie station?? Are they glass? Love them!!

Always bake the meatballs in the oven first. Then, put them in the hot sauce.

I would also suggest browning the meatballs first. You could do them in some oil in a skillet or under the broiler. They will cook faster and also be less likely to break apart.

I’m in the uk and I love this recipe with ground beef….I would say maybe make them smaller and they would definitely cook in about 2 1/2 hours

Do you like oil-portioning-bottle? Is it easy to clean/does it get sticky or anything in the portioning part? I‘m looking for something like that for a while. It is so easy to put a lot of oil in your food and i hate to use a measuring spoon every time. If you don‘t like it: why? Any other tips? Do you have a link?

I have really liked the bottle so far. It functions well and has stayed clean. We have been using a lot less oil! amzn.to/3Yll46d

Usually you brown and cook the meatballs first, then put them in the sauce. 😊

Your crockpot was very full so it would take at least four hours on high to cook the meatballs. Also someone suggested browning first which would help with flavor and the cooking process. Every time you remove the crockpot lid it takes about 20 minutes to get it back up to cooking temperature.
