    Great instructional video for RV newbies. It can be overwhelming.
    I used to work for Great Alaskan Holidays a few years ago, and what you say is correct and why many customers preferred GAH over other companies in town.
    * No charge for generator usage
    * First two people free for linens and dishes, then a low fee for additional people
    * You don't have to fill up the water or dump the gray and black water tanks before returning
    * You don't have to clean the RV on return
    I think you can opt for unlimited mileage after 6 or 7 nights for an additional fee which is worth it if you're doing a lot of driving. But, if you're parked in one place, like you were, unlimited mileage isn't necessary.
    All of the rental motorhomes are 0-3 years old.
    Here are some more important info for newbies:
    The generator is ONLY used for three things:
    * power outlets
    * air conditioning
    * microwaves
    If it's anything else, you do not need the generator. And you only need the generator if you ARE NOT plugged into power hookups.
    Propane:
    * heater (air)
    * hot water heater
    * refrigerator
    * oven/stove
    Coach battery (separate from car battery):
    * room lights
    * TV
    * vent fans
    The generator runs off of gas and it won't operate if less than 1/4 tank of gas.
    The fuel tank is unleaded, 55 gallons, and gets a range of 450-500 miles per tank.
    * You won't use much propane. On average a family of 4 will have propane last for one week.
    * People buy WAY too much food, and would often leave it in the RV. There is no need for anyone to go to Costco to buy food and supplies (ex. paper towels, lighter, trash bag, soap, etc). Just go to Fred's, Carrs, or Walmart. Buy items for a simple breakfast, granola bar snacks, and dinner. Go to lunch in town to keep things fresh. Trust me. I've seen a lot of waste. However, they will donate unopened non-perishable items to the local food bank.
    * Some people put aluminum foil on the vents to block out the light at the top when sleeping.
    * You only use the water pump when not connected to city water which is pressurized.
    * Less than 5% of customers use the oven. Most never do.
    * Always sweep before you bring in the slide outs to avoid rocks and debris from scraping the floor.
    * Always make sure the ceiling vents are closed before you drive.
    * Always make sure you are disconnected from the dump hose and water hose before you drive.
    * Bring an HDMI cable (and Apple HDMI adapter if connecting to an iPhone) to connect your phone or laptop to the TV. It's fun to download a few items on TH-cam before your trip to watch in the evenings.
    * Bring a boot dryer to use only when connected to power (otherwise you'd just make noise with the generator)
    * Having an eye mask helps to sleep at night.
    Again, great review.
    I hope this info helps newbies.

    I have used Great Alaskan Holidays for 7 times in the last 30 years with never a problem. I rented one of their units the first two weeks of June and put 1370 miles on it. I enjoyed my stay at Resurrection campground their in Seward. One thing I liked about GAH is that any unopened food left from your rental is donated by GAH to the local food bank.

    You did a great job explaining the whole motor home process in Alaska. You should definitely rent one again. Maybe next time Mark can go too. It looked like the right size for your family since you said the idea is to spend as much time outside anyways. I think Somers in Alaska rented one like it this past week and camped in Valdez. Great minds think alike. 😊

    For hooks: heavy duty magnetic hooks! Lots of stuff in motor homes are metal so they’ll stick and most stores that sell motor home or camping accessories will sell them.

    Found your channel a couple of weeks ago and my first time commenting. Thanks for a very informative video. We have been RVing for 24 years but visited Alaska last September on a cruise with a land tour first. ❤❤ I enjoy your family oriented videos.
    BTW, congratulations on "dumping" the tanks. You mentioned you probably wouldn't buy an RV; you might consider a travel trailer. You have the van to haul it and they are much less expensive to get into. However, storage in Alaska might be entirely different than where we live. I look forward to more videos.

    We rented from GAH twice. The first time we flew to Alaska from the lower 48 and traveled around your state for two weeks. Loved it! Then this past May we rented a brand-new unit and drove from the Winnebago factory in Iowa and delivered it to GAH in Anchorage three weeks later. What a blast to drive the Alaska Highway in a brand-new motor home!! Your video so accurately described the RV rental experience from GAH. I brought my own fitted sheet for the bed because I didn’t like fighting with a flat bottom sheet that didn’t stay in very well.

    What a great idea for a vlog!! Many summer travelers will benefit from watching your content on the 'ins and outs' of renting an RV!! I'm not too picky about things, but I would prefer fitted sheets over flat, just for the ease of it. This RV was a perfect fit for your family and it checked off a lot of amenities. Now you know what to bring next time you go 'RV-ing'😃🚐

    Great job. We own a 40'motorhome for the number of times we use it. We are selling it along with our 26' Duckworth. We are getting older, and it's just so much work. We actually want to simplify our lives now. So maybe a van or just renting. As far fishing goes, if my husband and I do a charter, that's enough fish for a year..

    The cost seems pretty reasonable to me having the ability and freedom to go where you want to go. I am surprised when camping that everything towel to linen wise is white! LOL!! I would think a gray or tan would be smarter BUT at the same time those colors can't be bleached and probably the reason. Bleach is a good friend in that business I am sure along with hotels and another reason probably everything is always white their also. Thanks for doing this! With you living there I can see you personally being able to lower that cost with a standard package with you now doing it once and knowing what the storage in and outside is like. Command hooks would probably be a huge help to you also for drying things!! They can be used over and over too with the replacement strips. That was fun!!

    That was great, showing all the expenses and how to hook up, empty tanks, and leave. My only thing that I didn’t like was how you had to light the stove and oven. That seemed like an easy way to get burned! It’s best to conserve on the water so your waste tanks don’t fill up before you’re ready to move. Another con is you have to move your motor home to go get groceries, eat, or sightsee and would have to hook up water, electric again, and possibly sewer ,if available. I wonder how they winterize the water hook ups at the camp faucet end. I don’t imagine That you would be able to use the campers in the winter. The water lines need to be blown out and empty and antifreeze put in. That’s why I wouldn’t drink out of the faucets even with city water hook ups. I don’t think the motor home would be able to heat it enough in the winter even if you didn’t use any of the water facilities. Glad you had a good time. It's a little spendy for me but you can stay places that don’t have a nearby motel.

    Good Morning Hamm Family ❤️
    I'm back. I've missed you and your videos. I've been pretty busy: Family and Friends visiting, birthdays and anniversaries, more to-do lists, recovery from my fall (okay now, except for my rib... better, but still healing). We've also been considering building an Ark before all these thunderstorms carry us away ⛈️
    Thank you for sharing your thoughts on RVing. We've been in Family's and Friends' RVs and we had a pop-up years ago. We've discussed the possibility of renting one. It's nice to have a baseline to go by. Also, being able to bring are FurBabies along would be nice, especially Maggie - she loves road trips. I saved both PDFs for future reference. Love the RV... looks cozy. Thank you for the tour and setup. Slide-outs are a must... I love cozy, not claustrophobic. The scenery on the way to and in Seward is beautiful per usual... love the snow-capped mountains 🏕️
    Seeing Bennett riding shotgun reminds me of your videos together riding to meet the fly-boys. Looks like he's been bumped-up to First Class 💺
    Love the blindspot camera. I'm glad you felt comfortable driving the RV. I know they can be intimidating. I've heard from Family and Friends that the RV Community are awesome... very helpful, especially to those new to RVing 🚙
    2 questions: both I'll have to research; but one, do you know if they have a hitch on the back for hooking up a carrier for a motorized scooter? Though after seeing the storage, that big one may fit my scooter, once broken down... one of the reasons we love my scooter; and two, do they allow/rent car trollies? Our friends own a huge Motorhome with the ability to tow their truck. I've seen rentals with trollies 🛵
    Left lane driving: most states have adopted the "move over" law or some form of it. I understand that Virginia has a $100+/- fine for "left-lane loafing" 🚔
    It's so refreshing to have everything unloaded, put away and prepped (made-up beds, etc.) at the start of a trip. Whether it be a tent, RV, cabin, lodge, hotel, Airbnb, etc... such a sense of accomplishment and now you can really enjoy your vacation ☺️
    Oh no... Not the bananas 🍌
    Well, if there's a flood, you'll be prepared: towels for you, towels for me, towels for everybody 😁
    I could sit there by the water's edge for hours: enjoying the scenery or reading a book 📖
    That Hobbit-sized collander made me laugh, especially after seeing how much pasta you used... jeez 😂
    Awesome advice for would-be campers and RVers on putting things away or undercover for the night: be safe and stay dry 🐻
    Love seeing the boys and their cousins helping out and having fun 😊
    As for the door window and overhead vents, when we camp or stay in a cabin, etc., we always pack a few extra towels, twine/cord, duct tape, and Command strips, hooks and velcro. It helps cover pesky windows, hang robes and towels, put up a makeshift clothesline, etc. 🙂
    It's always nice to have those little extras when camping: access to clean water, power, a shower, etc. Makes things a bit more comfortable. And, yes, when it comes to bathing, as long as the stench isn't overwhelming and the stinky parts are clean, it should be optional. My camping hairstyle is a headband, maybe a hat if it's rainy 🤠
    Whether home or away having things to pass the time are a must when the weather is poor or there's no power: boardgames, cards, books. Movies and video games are fun, but sometimes unplugging and have more personal interactions creates more fun and better memories 🃏
    Your boys always make me smile, sometimes laugh. Your interactions with your Dad brings back memories of my Dad... a little teary-eyed, yet happy. And your Mom, makes me wanna see and hug mine for years to come. Can't wait to see her this Autumn 🍁
    Thank you for demonstrating the pumping process and the other processes involved in returning the RV ⛽
    I wish it was 68°F here. That's my happy place. Anything between 28°F and 72°F are in my happy-zone. Summers are rough and uncomfortable for me. It's weird because I grew up in Florida with summer visits in Georgia and the heat never bothered me. Then I hit my 30s (eons ago) and my relationship with summer soured 🥵
    Thank you, again, for sharing your thoughts regarding your experience: pros, cons, costs, etc. The breakdown is very helpful. $2500 is a lot, but we spend that much, give or take, every year during Sukkot (2.5 weeks). I'm glad y'all had a great experience 😍

    Enjoyed your video. Always love it when you show the scenery of your home state. It is just beautiful there. Also, I think it would have been nice if the RV company provided you with dish soap and trashbags. I mean they provided you with everything else.

    You really need longer matches to light the stove.

    We came across your channel while researching our up coming cruise for our first time to Alaska. We want to explore at least part of the interior of Alaska as well sometime in the future. This video was very helpful in giving ideas and information for an interior exploration. Thanks for creating this content.

    The views of the mountains is the most beautiful sight I’ve ever seen! If I lived there I couldn’t get work done until all the sight seeing had been done! How do y’all handle it? When you were outside the motor home all I could look at was the view! All I could think was Isn’t God Great! Just look at His glory with those views!
    That is one thing I was wondering. How in the world do you ever wind down with the daylight especially with people still moving around outside? I guess you have to listen to your body.
    What are the summer temps like?

    Thanks for taking the time of putting this video out. Was this a state campground? I notice it didn’t have any sewer hookups. Are there different size motorhomes to rent? If we did this, it would be my husband and I coming from Florida. We like fires but not having the full affect with darkness would be strange for us. We would love to do two weeks pending cost and if Larry could get better and handle such a vacation. Till next time, thanks again. I’m in NY till Labor Day and miss home. But enjoying my little camper.

    Wondered, how much sheets, etc, would cost at Walmart for the camper? Even if you gave away at the end.

    Did your motorhome have air conditioning? I could see where the Long Sun hours could heat up a motorhome right fast

      Yeah, she turned on the AC when she demonstrating everything in the RV. The sun doesn't really get it hot here as the summer high is usually 65-70 F.

    Lauren Hi
    Great video. What camp ground is this in Seward and how ahead of time did you reserve it. Thanks Sunny

      If you go to the City of Seward page, it's the Seward Campgrounds. The site where she was is called Resurrection or Resurrection South. They are the only ones there that have partial hookups (water / electric). The other ones are dry sites.

    What would have been easier for the stove is a lighter, theres the long ones they make for lighting grills and stuff, that way you aren’t getting your hands, hair etc so close to the flames.
