My grandfather had bees. He had a stroke and the first thing he wanted handled was someone to care for the bees since it was July. He had the most fabulous sourwood honey. I have learned so much about the process from your videoed.

What a wonderful luxury to have so many raspberries growing at home. Different climates effect different fruits. I have a raspberry as a potted plant which I care for cover with a net to stop the birds eating them. I get excited when i see the first one. Yours must taste so delicious. Here raspberries are generally used for decoration on sponge cakes pavlova as they are considered special & a treat. The honey from hive to finished product in a jar is beautiful. Thankyou for yet another informative & enjoyable video.

When this happened to our honey we spoke to the bee society and they said it get solid because it wasn’t filtered well and that some wax had gotten into the honey either from de capping or from filtering. But as you say still tastes ok, but I prefer if when it’s a flowing golden stream. I usually used the set honey in cooking. I have an awesome chicken, ginger and garlic recipe which is truly so tasty I could eat it continuously 😂

The summer went quick. We’ve had a very cold winter and we are in spring now. We’ve had severe rain and wind here for two days. Even the dog won’t go out. Lol. Freeze drying raspberries is great. Definitely not in the household budget in the near future.

Bennett loves to help with the cooking. I think he would become a chef maybe though. He's very hands-on. It's so enjoyable to watch Evertte help you buy the ingredients from Costco and Garden. This is a beautiful family life. I'm going to watch you making raspberry freeze jam on here.
    Say happy and healthy
Can you put up the recipe for freezer jam, please? Thank you xx
On your bees, you said you give them sugar syrup syrup what part of sugar do you leave the bees some of the honey to live off over the winter or is it the sugar syrup so they can make more honey? How do you add syrup? Do you give the bees sugar syrup every day or a couple of days so they can live off that over the winter month? How do you give them the syrup without interface the bees? How did you get the honey onto your trays without spinning them? It's good that you know there's Alaska wild flower and Honey that puts the honey in jars for you. 60 cents a pound is cheap. Sorry for all the questions. I'm Interested
Hang on there are you pregnant with twins?? Or did I get it wrong? Have you given away your bees or in the process of doing that.

    • @ThisAlaskaLife
      @ThisAlaskaLife  ปีที่แล้ว

There is a special box that you put on top full of sugar syrup. They then turn that into honey very quickly because it is so accessible. If you go back to our very first bee video of the season we fed them sugar syrup then, they need it in the spring and the fall in Alaska because of the short summer.

    Good Afternoon Hamm Family ❤️
The temp dropped two degrees (74°F) since my prior video comment (... the End). The thunderstorm is raging all around us, but not so bad over head. We're in the lower foothills, so sometimes the storms split around us by the time they get here. Still, it's wet and a little windy. The creek is rushing along, but no signs that it will even reach overflow 🏞️
Those wafer pencils are simple, yet cute. Moose Stew sounds yummy. I've never eaten moose 🫎
The fellas look handsome in their back to school clothes. Have a great year. They're going to make awesome big brothers 🧒
That's a lot of raspberries... making up for the lack of honey, I guess. Fruit leather looks good. Store-bought leathers are meh, but I hear homemade is best. Bennett has absolutely no regrets 😋
Hey, you've got my popcorn bag sitting in the background... Very yum 🍿
I've made strawberry and peach freezer jam, but never raspberry. Since I'm not the biggest raspberry fan, on their own, I think they'd be good in a mixed berry jam. That is a bountiful amount of jam 🍓
Honey. So yum. I love honey. Haven't found one I don't like. All the colors, consistencies and flavor profiles. It's good to know that 60 cents a pound for honey harvesting is the secret to a happy marriage... LoL. Mark's like a little kid indulging in the honey runoff. A good peanut butter and honey sandwich is delicious, especially if the bread is fresh, lightly toasted, still warm from the oven; or make the PB and honey sandwich, slather outside with butter and grill like a grilled cheese sandwich... Mmmm 🍯
Freeze-dried fruit is great. A lite snack on its own or crush it into or onto oatmeal, yogurt, cobblers, cupcakes, crisps, cookies, waffles or pancakes, toast, ice cream/cookies/cones, a milkshake or smoothie, muffins, etc. Nice to see the fellas so invested in all your foody adventures 🧁
Everett with his glasses reminds me so much of Bry when he was his age, minus Bry's toe-head, white-blonde head of hair... just like his Momma was 🤓
Too bad the honey harvest was slim, but every little bit is a sweet prize. I need to check with my apiary on how their harvest went. Almost time to stock up again. We've had a lot of hot-humid days and a lot of rainy days too. The bees do love the honeysuckle growing out back and the trumpet flowering vine along the house which is a Hummingbird eatery as well. I'm happy to report that Maggie has not eaten a single bee this season. No pathetic swollen snoots nor benadryl hangovers. If you've ever seen a Polar Bear dazed and confused, well, that's Maggie on benadryl... and just as clumsy 🐻‍❄️
Shaker lemonade sounds so delicious and refreshing 🍋
Hmmm, interesting cookies. As long as the flavor is good... happy little accidents 🍪
Oooo, honey... luscious golden deliciousness. The variety and differences in honey are true treasures. Have you ever looked into dissolving labels instead of using a marker or labels that are a pain to remove? They work great 🙂
It's always a blessing to spend time with you and your Family. Have a great weekend. Take care. Yah's Blessings 🤗
P.S.: I'm all caught up... Yay me 😁

Hey Lauren! Where did you get that dark blue dress? It’s really nice and modest which is hard to find nowadays.

Wow you show us so much and educate us. Do you ever get to a point with your raspberries that you sale to the public?

Used to but haven’t for several years. Our harvest was really low the last 2 years so we stopped opening it up to the public. This year we are having a huge harvest but I haven’t had the energy to open it to the public so we have been picking and inviting friends to come pick.

Another great video, how do you not have trouble with birds or bears eating your raspberries?😊

Hi Lauren! Great video! I wanted to ask can you use Splenda or another artificial sweetener making the freezer jam? My mother is a diabetic and I would love to make her either strawberry or raspberry jam. Thanks!

You need to get the pink box of sure gel pectin, it allows you to use less sugar and sugar alternatives. The original sure gel, you have to use regular sugar or it won’t set.

Very ice video. Life setteling down to a little more nirmal or routine.
Why is the honey a different color in different years? Is it the flowers they have available?.
It was almost painful watching you make that Moose stew. Tom would get a moose every year and that was one of our favorite meals. Moose Jerky the kid's favorite.
    Take care all...❤❤

Do you know if I could use your recipe with artificial sweetener or does it need to be sugar?
