Today we're taking a look at the 8th Division - the hedonistic party division of the Gotei 13, led by one of the oldest captains around, Kyoraku Shunsui! Ay man huge fan but suppose twbw arc didn't happen and Yamamoto died somehow and they weren't at war would shunsui have remained regardless of what happens afterwards and they let the gotei 13 choose their next head captain or is zero division supposed to appoint the next head captain or central 46, this is a large question overall. Love the content will keep watching bro

I think Lisa succeeding Kyoraku as captain was a good choice, knowing her relationship with Nanao and Kyoraku. She brings the same vibe as Kyoraku to the eighth division.
I had a theory that the 8th division was strong as hell because of Kyoraku. He was very sure of Lisa's strength, and said that he has a lot of faith in his squad members. He has always been super observant and sharp, so I doubt that was misplaced. But then there was the stuff with Nanao about her never being in a fight, because Kyoraku is so protective. That may just be because of Kyoraku losing Lisa, and the promise he made that made him want to protect her. Its interesting because of how unpredictable Kyoraku's personality is

How shunsui fights is literally how I view a physical altercation, once you have to come to blows there’s no honour just the fight

Shunsui is by far my favorite captain/character in bleach so hyped to see this video about the 8th division. Let's go!!!!
He makes an excellent Captain Commander IMHO. He knew Gotei 13 needed to fight practically to survive during the war and then gradually change afterwards, acknowledging that the old ways were no longer viable.
Initially, Shunsui was not my favorite captain, he was up there, but I had several captains I liked more then him, such as Byakuya, Kenpachi and Hitsugaya. But over the yeas, he's grown on me.
He’s been #1 for me since him working to save Rukia and Ukitake too. The bromance is great
This man singlehandedly rekindled my love for Bleach. He truly adores the series and it shows 💙
I like the relaxed non standard command style Shunsui held without compromising his lethality. It foreshadows his unorthodox tactics he'd deploy in the TYBW and then the general reforms he'd initiate as Captain Commander for Soul Society after the war. Shunsui also stopping Nanao from finishing Chad also shows how much he cares for her, he does not want her burdened with blood stained hands.
Call 📞 me crazy but wish blut vein and blut artery was used more even by low-ranking Quincies nuch less the sternritters.
That and he didn't want to kill Chad. He knew he was just a dude, not an enemy per say.

There's a scene in Turn Back the Pendulum where Kyoraku is looking at "Aizen" and nodded. And he has a look like he can't tell what but he feels like there is something off.
Tatsufusa Enjoji wasn't in the TYBW-arc because even Kubo himself forgot about him.
Kubo confirmed recently that Ginrei was also a Captain for over 100 years in TBTP.
As per Shunsui, I believe the prior Div 8 Captain was his older brother.
Nanao was the daughter of Kyoraku's brothers wife, but is she his niece? He is very protective of her, and while in some ways it might appear flirtatious, it might also just be playful in an "odd uncle" way. Its been a while since I watched/read the series so I don't remember outright if he acted more than that towards her, my memory seems to see it as far more protective than anything else.
Yes she is his brothers daughter i believe he is verry protective of her she is the only relative that he has that is still alive who is inportant to him
I love the 8th and Kyoraku myself - I was so happy when he was promoted, I think it was well-deserved him being now the commander. Great analysis as always 💕
Ive always had a theory that Shunsui and Hikifune had something romantic going on. His bankai looks a lot like Hikifune herself, maybe she had some influence on young Shinsui while his zanpakuto was still developing… also he seems to know a lot about Hikifunes promotion while no other captain or even Hiyori her liutenant were informed beforehand 🤔
I just think they are work wife/work husband.

I always assumed there was no 8th division when Kyoraku took over as captain commander. All of 8th division moved with him.
So the first division melded with the 8th? that wouldnt happen. Theres too many seated/unseated shinigami. Central 46 didnt even want them to have two vice-captains
I always wonder how come that Matsumoto isn't in the 8th division. I mean given that she a beautiful woman who loves drinking and partying she would fit right in and be someone Kyoraku would want in his division.

@@stevejamieson8468 Ik he was such a cool dude and had great dynamic with Rose but the new Gotei 13 is disappointing to say the least.
I don’t think that would’ve been a good fit cause Kyoraku and Matsumoto both share similar personalities and wouldn’t get any work done. They both need someone stern to keep them grounded.

I find it interesting that 8th was stated as Intelligence Team,and their cap make you thought he just a lazy dude ,but actually is the most insightful one,when you focus on his

Shunsui is the jiraiya of bleach. Strong and well respected by his peers. Appointed to a leadership role. It's all fun and games... until it isn't.
You forgot the part where they both have one or two women that enjoy pummeling them senseless. That is the first thing I thought of when you made the comparison.
Nanao is right up there with Isane when it comes to Kido proficiency. Those two are probably the best kido users out of the lieutenants tbh.
*And renji has the worst kido skills lol.

@@isseigremory8439 Nanao didn't have her families Zanpaktou so it wouldn't have been possible for her to.
Kyoraku IS my favorite character, alongside rukia (comedy with ichigo), byakuya (nobility), and yoruisuke! Now grimmjow, ulquiorra, and tousen are different story.
Great video. Love these Gotei Divisions breakdowns, this is one of my favorites since my favorite character Shunsui is its captain.

I think if Kyoraku had a choice he would had loved to go back to the 8th division. Offcourse he would be surrounded by women, but he would feel young again among all the women that loves a bit more of the new technology (having smartphones like Renji did and being on the equivalent of Facebook). We know from Yuyu that Kisuke brought the equivalent of "the internet" to soul soceity during the skip between the end of the TYBW and the start of the Hell arc. I'd like to believe that the 8th division under Lisa's leadership would be the first one to accept these changes, she loved to browse through like swimwear catalogs during her time in the world of the living and was the kind of person that loved stuff like schoolgirl outfits, preferably really short ones and in the Hell arc she still does by having her soulreaper outfit cut up way shorter then the others, exposing stomachs and legs for all to see, and likeminded, newer, bit like our internet era of soulreapers like Yuyu would accept this way easier then the older more traditional soulreapers would.
Also props to Lisa on learning Bankai and getting that promotion to captain at the end of the TYBW, I wonder if we ever get an expansion on the Hell arc and get stuff like her bankai in action, maybe agains other captains that were send to Hell because of their dense rei.

Tbh I don’t think it’s weird at all for Shunsui and Nanao to leave the 8th leaderless. In world the Soul Society is in complete disarray and with multiple people out there was a lack of talent. The immediacy of the transfer emphasised the fact the Soul Society felt thin on talent and on a back foot after this monumental first invasion. It would’ve been nice to have seen the reaction from the lower rank regardless.
Also, Shunsui requesting for Nanao to transfer and having two VCs was the first act of Shunsui upending the past and set up a tone the tone of his Captain Commander tenure.
Yeah I agree. Like it doesn't matter if you have x number of divisions period, it just is the way it is. He was the head captain so he could still order the captain less division regardless. Basically he was still their captain plus everyone else's. Back in the day there was no gotei at all so... although yes at that time they were in a critical moment, but in that case would you want a brand new captain in that position? It makes more sense to keep it vacant and just keep it structured mainly as it was.
We don't even know if they had 13 divisions originally if I remember correctly. They were merely known as the divisions and not until much later the Gotei 13.
@@A_Black_Sheep94 We do know that the gotei 13 did not originally exist. Yamamoto created the school first and then the Gotei. Before that it was just people running around doing whatever they wanted, although it seems like the noble families and zero squad existed before this even. Originally there were "shinigami" etc like the soul king and the nobles, the nobles decided that there needed to be order in the world's so the soul king separated them into soul society etc, and then imprisoned and guarded him.
@@babaG819 When Yama did create the Gotei they weren't known as the Gotei 13 they were known as the Divisions... my point is we don't know whether there were 13 divisions, or more or less.
@@A_Black_Sheep94 As far as I know they are always the "Gotei 13". Before that we don't know but as for the Gotei, it was always 13 squads.

Kyoraku Shunsui is definitely my favorite character in the entirety of bleach.
Katoribatsu Unsai was the OG captain of squad 8 back when old man Yama founded the 13. (If this wasn't answered yet)

You know what I'm just realizing? Aside from Chad, Kyoraku always goes for a killing blow as his first attack. He must have the same line of thought as Thanos because he always goes for the head.

Her low appearance count compared to other vice captains notwithstanding, Ise Nanao is still my favourite woman character in Bleach.
I always held the theory that the Eigth *did* have a specific role, but a secret one.
Internal Affairs.
Kyoraku putting up this wise but party-boy facade, whilst being the one to secretly keep everyone in line behind the scenes, being Yamamoto's ears and eyes.
Both he and Lisa show their ease at fulfilling this role, in Soul Society Arc, and with Lisa spying on the Captains during the meeting.
It would also explain the ease at which he takes command, and why he picks Lisa as his replacement over someone like Love Aikawa.
And naturally, with the 2nd existing as they are, they provide perfect cover for the 8th.
You have some jokey characters like Tatsufasa as distractions, as Kyoraku himself plays, whilst Lisa or someone else is behind the scenes.
It also fits perfectly with Kyoraku's tactics and personality.

when he left, it was during the war. so I'm guessing he was in charge of both the 1st and 8th for a bit until a replacement could be found.
Originally I thought Shinsui looked cool but couldn't stand him because I never liked guys with his persona (only wanting women around, living leisurely, etc).
... but he later grew on me by the Arrancar Arc. I learned to like him more

The 11th division itself is strong, Yumichika who was 5th seat in the 11th division was stronger than most vice captains in the gotei 13
There aren't a ton of anime characters that I fanboy out for, but Shunsui is the exception. He is just a beast of a fighter. Bankai Katen Kyōkotsu Karamatsu Shinjū.

He is one of my favorite as well. I also like the fact that, in my opinion, fighting seems to be a last resort. He only fights Chad when he relaizes the reason for Chad wanting to fiight and he felt that it was wrong of him dismiss Chad's feelings. Unfortunity, Chad gets wiped out. And he really doesn't want to fight Stark as well. He is talking to him, and then he seems exaserbated and he starts his fight with Stark. I do like the fact that he may not always play by the rules. Yea, he is one of favorite charcters from the first time I saw the series.

*Having a lot of knowledge, even can break the 4th wall to search Wikipedia which contains informations and create other fiction characters, and control them to fight. For example: searching DBS on wiki then create Saiyan army. Searching BC on wiki then create Devil army. Searching Boruto on wiki then create Otsutsuki army.

T: Thunderbolt, change it to Time
*Time manipulation and can create new timeline.

*Can create anything inside universe like galaxies, stars, planets, meteorites, black holes to throw at the opponents. Also can create a new universe to trap opponents forever.

*Like an author power (God) can rewrite opponent whole story life.
Z: Zombie, change it to Zero
*Zero manipulation, can make opponen's high damage to zero damage, high defense to zero defense, light speed to zero speed, massive mana to zero mana, strong strength to zero strength, etc.
I wanted BLEACH power scale to be hyperverse level.
