      It's also not full of faction mods that feature lots of weird ass stuff that not really fit in the game, more in a total conversion of the game.
      I personally run a dozen (necessary IMO) utility mods and two minor factions (Tiandong, Roiders) that are both visually and gameplay wise vanilla compliant.

    I have been playing Starsector for week now and i have a very good tip when you start a new game...
    1. try to buy a fuel ship and Cargo Ship beacuse ruuning out of fuel in the middle of no where is a ticket to hell and at the beginning you will have to do quest like a direct Ship or abadon mining outpost etc having a cargo mean more more salvage form this abadon place (i have to dump a lot of thing because i ran out of space which is very suck)
    2. You can click on intel an learn that every world in core world is already servey why is this useful? Because some world are not yet colonize and have ruin in them so running arould searh all the ruin in core world is very good for geting some money early on (i made 200,000 Credit by only serch ruin in core world)
    3. Try to get some crew and heavy machinary is a good idea due to a lot of serach and explore like abadon place and ruin required a lot of this.
    4 i have try a lot of ship type but the best ship i have is Owen and Tempest i have only this 2 ship type and manage to destroy a pirate carrier fleet that have 90,000 bounty reward tempest usually cost 42,500 and i think owen cost around 28,000 it is so worth the money having like 5 of each ship type. The independent faction usually sell them
    5. Like in the vedio triverse jump is very good if you need to get out of system fast like in the case of smuggler
    6. Speaking of smuggler it can be a lot of benefit if you try to sell drug or organ to black market NEVER DO BUSNIESS IN THE MARKET BECAUSE THE PRICE AND TAX WILL KILL YOU!!! so try to do busniess in black market but beaware of patrol because they will going after you 100% so try to get triverse jump first and my favourite thing to sell is drug because most of the faction need it but they ban it except the Tri-something so buy drug from them and sell it to other faction is good idea.
    7.i forgot to mention this but NEVER!!! EVER!!!! SELL A SHIP BLUEPRINT AT THE BLACK MARKET beacause pirate can buy the blueprint and build the damn ship i have lost 1 of my game beacuse i have to fight pirate task force that have a goddamn paragon battleship. if you have blue print sell it in the market because it is good to lost some money than fighing a pirate paragon.
    I think that all i know if anything i say is wrong plz tell me i only play it for week so i am not that expert and willing to listen to other people tip.

      An addon to tip 7 is you can actually make pirate fleets less powerful by selling Luddic Path blueprints on the black market. Luddic Path ships are roughly the same power level as Pirate ships, except they're designed to be flown by reckless officers. Pirates have less of those than the Pathers.
      Also, with the increased speed and use of burn drives in Luddic Path ships, they sometimes break off from the main pirate fleet in combat accidentally; during the early parts of combat this can make small handfuls of cruisers and destroyers charge headlong into your fleet unsupported, and when they're fighting they sometimes fling their support ships out into nowhere.
      Overall, selling the pirates Luddic path blueprints was a good investment for me.

    Your LP and advice helped me last ENTIRE DAYS more before I'm blown to pieces.
    My only viable strategy by now is FFEB (Flee From Every Battle), so I buy cheap ships as suicide lightning rods that I sacrifice while the main fleet chickens away.

    Hi, I got new into playing Starsector. Great Game and I was happy finding your videos. I'm really sorry, that you haven't managed to keep up making content. You have a great way to explain the game and a favorable voice to listen to. I started making TH-cam content myself 9 years ago, became father and gave it up because of new priorities. But I've been bad in doing it, you are not. Hopefully you will find time in future again to make new content, now as the game finally becomes a little bit more known in mainstream.

    You mention scuttling ships that you salvage; I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that selecting to not salvage available ships automatically scuttles them, so salvaging and then manually scuttling them isn't necessary. I think. It does mention somewhere in one of those screens that ships you don't salvage will result in additional supplies instead, so I just assume it means automatically scuttling them, since that makes sense.

    • @jdcollie258
      @jdcollie258  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I *believe* that you are correct, but I don't have the hard data to confirm it, which is why I mentioned them separately. I'll have to get around to testing it one of these days. (If you happen to have a link to the reference about additional supplies, that would be awesome)

Question: should I be holding on to the Alpha AI cores, pristine nanoforges etc... for colonies later in the game or do you recommend focussing first on the fleet converting everything into cash?

    I think your point about Ludic Path Blueprints is valid, but it might sell LP Ships short (tho most of them are indeed barely better than pirate junk), imo especially LP Lashers in Vanilla are incredibly good in the early game, just stick some Chainguns on those puppies and melt through anything the game throws at you early. In fact doing a smuggling run to a LP Base and snatching a few of those is very viable imo.

    Noob question if your AI ships are in a battle should you have all your weapon groups on autofire. Also what is the difference between linked and alternating fire.

    • @jdcollie258
      @jdcollie258  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      AI ships manage their own weapon groups, including your ship if you put it on autopilot.
      Linked weapons fire simultaneously, while alternating, well, alternate. You won't notice with fast firing weapons, but with things like antimatter blasters, you will see a noticeable difference. Generally alternating have more even flux generation, but lower spike damage than linked.

    Hey which one do you think is more profitable: smuggling or bounty hunting

    • @jdcollie258
      @jdcollie258  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depends very much on how your fleet is built.
      I think it is probably easier to get profitable smuggling underway (since freighters are cheaper and more common than good combat ships), and you can combine it on occasion with legitimate procurement and delivery contracts. If you're talking about pure credits, I *believe* smuggling would probably be the winner.
      On the other hand, bounty hunting is quite profitable on it's own, and hinges nicely with exploration, which can be insanely profitable. (Not to mention helping you find colonizeable planets earlier) Additionally bounty hunting can give you access to rare hulls through salvage, and will also net you a great deal of experience via combat. You'll also gain a lot of rep from your bounties, and bounties scale upward, making the later ones worth hundreds of thousands of credits each. It probably isn't as directly profitable as smuggling, but it has a lot of 'soft' perks as well, making it a better option than it might seem on paper.
      Honestly I'd go with whatever you enjoy more. Both are completely legitimate ways to make a living in Starsector. (And it's not like you have to pick between them, you can do both!)

      I cover this a bit in the New Player's Guide: Refitting. Like moosig says, the information card for a ship won't have any information about "shield upkeep", "shield arc", or "shield damage/flux" if it does not have a shield.
      In practice, there are only a few ships that don't have shields, and you'll learn to recognize them fairly quickly.
