When I was playing my first time I was just making as much money as I can by Sseth's way and just buy or build my own bunch of Big Guys. Bunch of capital ships, around 5-10 and all other slots filled with big cargo ships for smuggling big amounts of drugs, organs and other shit for Luddite Pathers and Pirates. And I was winning all the encounters only by the raw power of 10 Capital ships. And that's all. But now I want to dig deep into this combat system to understand how to actually destroy ships by myself

The survey data mechanic is very unintuitive, when I was playing I didn't want to sell any of my high-class survey results because the tooltip suggests that it would mean the good planets you've found wouldn't be private anymore (i.e. they'd be developed by whoever you sold the data to). In the end it turns out that's not true at all.

Just remember, everything is profitable if you never pay for anything.

I just survey every planet since it's cheap with two Apogees in my fleet (only gas giants cost more than 5 supplies). If you are on a lower budget just a swarm of Shepherd Drone Tenders will also do, since they have the multi-functions of salvaging bonus, survey cost reduction, cargo capacity and EXCELLENT combat screening with their mining drones (against early game threats).

I'm trying to understand about the Comm Sniffers - is the limit of 1 per faction and then 20% chance for every one above that? Or 1 Comm Sniffer TOTAL and then 20% for every one above?

I’m very sad that the series ended here. I Learned a lot from watching this playthrough. And listening to you play is very soothing; you are the Bob Ross of Starsector. 😄

Hi, I got new into playing Starsector. Great Game and I was happy finding your videos. I'm really sorry, that you haven't managed to keep up making content. You have a great way to explain the game and a favorable voice to listen to. I started making TH-cam content myself 9 years ago, became father and gave it up because of new priorities. But I've been bad in doing it, you are not. Hopefully you will find time in future again to make new content, now as the game finally becomes a little bit more known in mainstream.

Hello, Collie. Will we be getting that list of ships you promised? The one where you talk about what you think of it, and the plus and minus of the ship, and how it could be used. Can you make it a tier list? Maybe have more than one video; one for cruisers and capitals and another for destroyers, and another for frigates. Maybe a list of beam weapons or ballistic weapons after that?

I know I'm 9 years late to the party, but I have a question: will the pirates and the space terrorists (the Path) still attack your colony if you're neutral or friendly with them? I'm guessing pirates are gonna pirate either way, but I'm curious about the Pathers. Thank you, thank you, thank you for these videos! The amount of work and knowledge of the game going into these is truely appreciated by us newbies!

can you divide your fleet? f.e. doing legal missions, piloting your fleet, while parking a tiny smuggler full of drugs in an asteroid belt? just to supply the addic... I mean, the customers regularly. thanks

Excellent tutorial! A lot of useful information while expertly maintaining a clear delivery. Thank you, this is very much appreciated.

it's actually better to switch to esdf instead of wasd. one, your hand rests more naturally on these keys. two, it allows you to use "a" to activate powerups, and three, you can use s and d to strafe, w and r to turn. it's a MUCH more natural setup. I set G to toggle the aim at cursor function, and also enable the default to be "active" for that, so you don't have to hold down the key. note that small ships, which turn rapidly, work perfect with using the aim at cursor function for strafing, while you will likely want to reverse the function (uncheck the box in the settings) for capital ships that turn very slowly. I highly recommend practicing combat by selecting a mission from the main menu, go to refit ship, and then set up a simulator to test your ship in combat against other types of ships. this will get you used to the controls, and how to properly move and strafe to avoid damage. DO NOT rely on your shields on a small ship. they overload quite quickly. better that you just learn not to get hit. You can also change your weapons and hull loadouts to experiment with what works best against different enemy types.

Nice video but in the future you might want to split these into shorter to focus on one aspect at a time. Also not the most clear of videos you went to more weird tangents a few times.
