WORKS with MSI X99. I just happened to have a MSI X99 and an E5-2620 lying around and my brother needed a powerful PC to generate timetable for school (hi's a teacher), so I tested this method. It is working fine without installing the special intel driver, my Win10 is up to date.

...x58/socket 1366 I'm using it 11 years later and it's still as good as most current offerings today. You'll also get a lot of practice if you go the ssd route in understanding partition types, their values, and what the max capacity of BIOS actually is vs UEFI. Lots of good info on this channel.
Man last time i saw a manual bios update was in the late 2000's.People got lazy as it's a click of the button these days.Back then had to remember so many commands so glad they simplify stuff
Hey man you should really revisit the X79 and X99 platforms. You can enable ReBar support now with a bios mod. There is also a bios patch to enable NVME booting for those boards that do not natively support it.
Just a quick check... How relevant are these instructions still in 2024? I ordered a Machinist X99 (PR9) and a 2697 V3 and I'm really looking forward to unlocking turbo on all cores and see that this budget-build can do :D
I followed this guide and was able to unlock a Xeon E5-2690 v3 12 core to 3.5ghz and it made a big difference. I just picked up a Xeon E5 2698 V3 16 core off ebay and if it works just like the 12 core did then I am going to be pretty happy. I built my X99 gaming rig back in 2014 and the fact this thing performs almost as good as current Ryzen chips really says a lot about how far ahead Intel really was at the time. You can pick up a lot of these chips below 10 cores extremely cheap and they have a higher turbo which would work well if you are purely gaming. Great Idea for a cheap and powerful gaming rig and if you are lucky enough to find a 14-22 core cheap then it makes a killer ThreadRipper knock off for half the price.
Do you happen to know after doing this with a e5-2680v3 since some games are not optimized for so many cores....can you just turn off some of the cores for some games? Basically running it as a 6 or 8 core?
I have read on some Russian forums via translate that these programmers do indeed function with this board. However, there is a quirk. You have to remove the RAM, CPU, and GPU. Make sure there is a battery installed and power the board on. Then proceed to flash as usual. These issues aren't so much security features as they are quirks. The Chinese engineers that designed these boards are talented but lack the experience of major designers. I appreciate your coverage on these things. Waiting for my CPU and RAM this week and I will be off to the races as well. Been using a 6-core AMD 1090T Black Edition since ~2011. I was able to pull off my entire upgrade for the cost of the Zen CPU I wanted so I pulled the trigger. If this all works out I might build another dual CPU system. Huananzhi has some nice dual CPU boards on Ali. A little pricey but they appear to be the best quality out there. Peace!
i've got a kllisre x99 d8 board, and propobly the previous ovner made these, because i have all core turbo for my 2680v3. rocking it with a tesla m40 (basically a titan x). it just a beast for the money i bought them.
Is this possible with the C612 chipset? I have a dual socket board with 2 2690v3 xeons in it that I'd like to boost performance on. I think that it only runs at 40c on all cores during load testing.
So I am not talking about a traditional game server. I am talking about running virtualize desktops (VMs) with their own dedicated graphics for playing games. Depending on how you want to set it up, you can have this done directly on the machine, or through clients like a traditional server VM set up. Think, 4 gamers 1 server. In that case, multiple GPUs ARE relevant to performance.
I would like to add that if you’re doing this on a machinist motherboard, you should DEFINITELY do this with a second computer or usb on hand because until every step was completed, my computer would freeze in windows after doing the initial bios update in the beginning of this video. I got it to work, thankfully, but not without a million restarts. Getting in and out the bios was fine, just windows didn’t like it very much.
Hello Man, done it myself too!! but i have to say it's more easy than shown. First thing it's not necessary the boot manager, just create a little partition as like the windows one do in the installation. You can create it after installation or when ever you prefer. And second sometimes the command to copy files in to new directory for boot V3 torbo doesn't work, so basically you need to create it manually with the command "MKDIR" shot form "MD" and write the complete patch with \dir\dir etc, than the command copy file works. Anyway thank you very much i have a SZMZ X99M-G2 and it works only with afudos to rewrite bios. It's very good one and i would like to modify the bios interface, just to include a full logo and to improve fan monitoring for example, it starts with a very basic control..
Mmmmmmm xeon. Xeon make my pp feel tingly. I love xeon builds. Saving old xeon cpus are my fav thing. I will say the x79 turbo plexhd paired with the 1650v2 oc at 4ghz and 32gb 1866 ram and rx580 was great. I wish I'd had enough for 5600xt

Welp just so everyone knows theres a ton of 1680v2's from a seller on ebay. only 175 shipped vs the usual $250 i always see. Bought an asus x79 deluxe to match.. and cheap 40$ 4x4gb for now. thanks for the inspirado on the new project. tired of my mini-itx r7 1700 which doesn't overclock at all. lol.. wanna go full tower. this should perform better than a 2700x in games at least. I could have just bought a 3900x but going old school for a bit. thanks again!
"this should perform better than a 2700x in games at least." No, it shouldn't. Games are too reliant on single-core performance. The 1680 v2 would probably be slightly faster than the 1700 thanks to the better latency and larger cache, but would be slower than the 2700X because of the clock deficit and infinity fabric. They're so close in performance that you probably won't notice any difference.
Idk check the benchmarks dude. Theres like 3 videos about it ... It was a nostalgia project. Not worth the $ unless you're doing it for fun. Great system though! Replacing with 4000 series later.

Hey Brayan, i loved your video! Just gotta ask one thing. Any way of doing this "glitch" on Linux? Would be really cool to use this hack for an X99 workstation that uses Linux. Thanks my dude!
11:45 You dont't have to check the ROM size in a different computer. Afudos tells you while reading how much it has read. The last value I saw was 7F3000 which are 8335360 Bytes
Can you please Benchmark how effective these xeons are as compared to newer ryzens or the quad core i7s ( sandy/ivy/haswell) for Streaming ( h264) Cpu intensive games?
@Tech YES City First of all, thank you for your high-quality content! Love the vids! I'm currently debating going the Xeon➡Turbo Unlock route as a cheap base for a budget gaming PC build, allowing for more money to be spent on a video card. Just curious how the unlocked Xeons you've been working with so far are performing in terms of Passmark's CPU benchmark scores, just to get an idea of how they rank. (Curious how much better they would perform than a budget Ryzen CPU like a Ryzen 1600, etc. etc.) Looking forward to your reply! Cheers!
This has worked out great for me. However we recently had 2 powercuts and I lost the Bios settings so I had to redo step 2 and 3 to get PC back working. Well worth the mod though :)
Today is the 3rd day and now I have not only successfully enable V3 full turbo on all cores but also recovered by corrupted bios. I think you forgot to mention that if windows is not installed on a GPT partition, you can not do this mod(please edit your video as with UEFI installed windows, I couldn't see the FS1). In my case, that was the problem. I have modified the original Asrock bios so it doesnt show any additional tab in the bios for "v3 full turbo" but when system boots, it shows a message "v3 full turbo" and my all cores are working at 3.2GHZ on full load. Thanks Brother
Can you do some benchmarks with turbo on and off with cinebench r20 and a few other things like games plz. I'd love to see modern warfare tested. That's the most solid standard benchmark that really shows how good a pc is imo

Hi, always thanks for your interesting contents and useful information! Recently I have bought ASUS X99-A/USB 3.1 + E5 2678 V3, since I am quite interested in all cores turbo boost! My question is whether your instruction would work on my ASUS board as well or ASUS UEFI has already this function? Your kind answer will be highly appreciated! Nice greetings from South Korea!
Hi, thanks for the great video, really well explained. Luckily I realised before I started that I don't have a Xeon V3! I have a V4, will that work too?
Thanks, this tutorial works great for me (Xeon E2620 V3). It seems that the processor was even unlocked after step 2 : I ran a benchmark after step 2 and another after step 3, and there was no difference, the cores were already running at 3.2GHz after step 2. Question : currently, I have 4 RAM slot but only use 2x8Gb DDR4 2600. Is there any difference of performance using 2x8gb vs 4x4Gb ? Later, if I upgrade with 2 other sticks of memory, is it possible to mix DDR4/DDR3 and/or different speed of memory or will I have to find exactly the same memory sticks ?

My msi x99 sli plus is not showing the turbo boost option in driver priority after completing the shell commands, did yours? If so where did you find it?
@@Nickscasseraif i can remember.. on my msi i had to load it manually in efi shell and add a efi boot option until i figured out where to put the driver in the bios image. good for testing. if the turbo v3 efi driver is loaded on boot properly and you don't have any micro it should show "no micro loaded". or "not loaded" if you dont it will freeze alot due to c6 c3 options. i had to hex edit out my micro code files till they were blank, on my msi x99a pro carbon it was difficult to find some of the files but there there. on my asus x99 rampage v 10 edition it just worked. if you dont want a permanent solution just remove your microcodes and run in uefi shell on boot. i never removed the windows microcodes and my turbo exploit has always worked besides some weird power plan behavior that i fixed using a custom one. i have a 2696 v3 es at all 18x 4ghz using 105.5 basclock. only time it dips is at power limits. asus seems to handle it better to me in my opinion. but my msi carbon was fine fine temp wise. definitely have a 360 or 240 radiator though... 12 and 18 both get stupid hot. if you can jot a message or email i can always take a look at your bios when i have the chance. there is one write up thats more detailed then win raids online.

@@blatcher2 no doubt it will not be 3x better.. but it does have a strong single tread rating of over 2100 compared to 1700. I have plans to buy 2 of these 2620 v3s and thank you for confirming that at least ECC isn't required for these boards! Thanks! :D
WORKS with MSI X99.
I just happened to have a MSI X99 and an E5-2620 lying around and my brother needed a powerful PC to generate timetable for school (hi's a teacher), so I tested this method.
It is working fine without installing the special intel driver, my Win10 is up to date.

I'm using it 11 years later and it's still as good as most current offerings today.

Lots of good info on this channel.

Legend mate! Sounds like a good deal for a dirt cheap but yet powerful FreeNAS, pfsense, VM server hardware.
Good content. Excellent content, to be fair. Looking forward for the 12c vid!
Worked great. Thank you and is stable as tested on an 8 hour cyber punk session.
It worked on an Asus X99 AII with Xeon X2699 V3 - Best regards from Germany
awesome , what are you numbers?
I tried this and Bingo worked first time, thanks a bunch ;-)
@TechYesCity
Can you get one of these dual CPU servers and make your own game server?
2-4 graphics cards
2-Xeon CPUs
32-64gb of ECC?
Ill answer that for you in the next video.
@@techyescity great! Could you also check all core turbo and overclocking abilities of the dual socket chinese boards?
Is this possible with the C612 chipset? I have a dual socket board with 2 2690v3 xeons in it that I'd like to boost performance on. I think that it only runs at 40c on all cores during load testing.
One thing I'd like to note about game servers, GPUs do nothing for them.
I wish I'd had enough for 5600xt
you can buy a 5600 or a 5700 and flash xt bios :)

Price of the motherboard just makes it really hard to justify cuz it's old. motherboards can only run for so many hours at specific temperature.
"this should perform better than a 2700x in games at least."
No, it shouldn't.
You don't need the "turbo hack" (not that I believe this stuff anyways) for that CPU as it is unlocked.

In BIOS of the chinese x99 Boards activate: Numa, COD (cluster on die) 10 core and more needed, IOAT. You will get a bump on memory bandwidth and near 25% better L3 Cache Latency.
So, if one wanted to unlock these and then say install Linux as a server instead of Windows. The progress is lost?
isnt this in the microcode, EFI? IT should work i think in any os.

First of all, thank you for your high-quality content!
(Curious how much better they would perform than a budget Ryzen CPU like a Ryzen 1600, etc. etc.)
Looking forward to your reply!

@@Nickscasseraif i can remember.. on my msi i had to load it manually in efi shell and add a efi boot option until i figured out where to put the driver in the bios image. good for testing. if the turbo v3 efi driver is loaded on boot properly and you don't have any micro it should show "no micro loaded". or "not loaded" if you dont it will freeze alot due to c6 c3 options.

if you dont want a permanent solution just remove your microcodes and run in uefi shell on boot.
