I've done three Huananzhi boards so far. X99-T8, X99-8M and X99-T8D. Very impressed with all of them. The T8D doesn't support sleep mode properly, which is a bummer, but if you are going to use it for a server that doesn't matter. The 8M and T8 all support turbo unlock and I made awesome gaming machines out of them. I've got a TF on order. I was excited to get it and try it out. After watching this, I'm more excited!! :D
There's another TH-camr, Miyconst, who reviews Ali Express X99 boards and he also agrees this is a great board. After watching his videos, I ordered an Atermiter X99 D4 and flashed it with a modified BIOS for Turbo unlock. It's running a 2.6GHz (3.4GHz Turbo) E5-2640v3 with a GTX 1070. It's been a great gaming machine while stuck inside during COVID and wildfires.
Hey Bryan 🇦🇺🖐 I purchased your nVidia case $50 pc from the end of 2019 w/ gtx770 and x58 mobo. Yes it’s still going great! I’ve also purchased the Atermiter x79 mobo from aliexpress (throne with USB 3 and SATA 3 .....not the NVME version) and got a 4ghz o/c on the Intel 1650V2. Loving the board as my test bench and 3rd pc when friends are over for gaming. The vrm’s do get a lil bit warm but I have a 120mm case fan secured near the vrm’s which keeps them cool 😎. Loving this content about x58/x79/x99 etc more so then all the RTX 3000 content personally 🥰🥰. Looking forward to more this stuff! Keep up the great work. Cheers 🥂 🍻
I have this with a 2378 v3 and 32GB DDR ECC RAM with turbo unlock and a GTX 1080 and it's a workstation machine and can even game on a rather high level, especially with games utilizing all them cores. 800$ all in all including full RGB FANs, 512GB NVMe, 4TB Raid1 and BT5&WiFi ax card. The power of XEONs baby!
I prefer the x99 F8 version of this board. And they DO have an OC section on the stock bios at least on my board, you just have to dig for it. It has memory timings, and cpu and cache multi OC options, I have an E5 1650v3 ES OC to 4.5ghz on the x99 f8.
Interesting. I have a couple E5-2699 v4 ES (Engineering Sample QHUP) that I wonder if I could get overclocked over 4GHz. Theoretically, that would nearly double my performance. Only thing is what would I do with my existing Registered ECC RAM and SuperMicro X10DAX?
@@BandanazX those have a locked multi. You would need to use FSB overclocking, and these boards have usb tied to fsb. Youll only be able to get it to around 13% oc before instability hits on a really good board. And this board has memory tuning, so you can lower the mhz frequency to compensate for the fsb increase and reuse the ecc reg, as this board supports it
Is it stable ? I'm planning to do the same build (but with an E5 1680-v3 instead), but I'm worried about the poor 6-phases VRMs 😕🧐. Do you have overheating issues on the VRMs ?

@@josue5019 , I believe the only difference between the two is the support for DDR3 ECC, I might be wrong, but both boards would be very good for a system now. No matter what task you throw at it since it is x99 and still a very very good platform for today :)

I did a xeon build based on ur vid and it works well. Parts from AliExpress. I got a klisre x79 with e5 2630v2 and 16gb ddr3 ecc for only $95. I can now open facebook with 200fps
The surplus server cpus are no comparison to modern Ryzen cpus. The price per performance is where the value is. Raw performance, Ryzen will beat even most modern Intel server cpus.
rockin a huananzhi x99 tf (paired with a e5 2660 v3) for almost a year now, have unlocked turbo boost and does an exceptional job ,,,i strongly recommend it for value/performance... both for gaming and editing
I'm running this exact board with a 2678 V3 and 64GB (4x 16GB) 1866 DDR3 ECC as my ESXi server for all of 2020 now. Paired with two cheap recycled Dell H310 controllers and really cheap recycled Intel 4-port LAN controller. I'm very impressed with this setup. Running 15 VM's non-stop it barely ever hits 160W and is stable as can be.
Nice to see that there are legitimately great boards like this from China. I'd like to see companies like this make boards for more modern platforms. Could be quite competitive
I bought an Atermiter X99 bundle with 16G of DDR4 and the poor E5 2620V3 and god! That works pretty well for a 200$ kit! I paired it with a Hyper 212 EVO and the temps are from ambiant 22°C to 25°C at idle and doesn't ramp over 45-48°C under load! Haven't done the 3.2Ghz hack yet but looking for it pretty soon 😁. Also, I like the Ausie Dollar because it's almost the same as Canadian Dollar!

I've been using the huananzhi x79 v2.49p motherboards for going on 3 years now and everything is good. Bought 3 of them, using 2 as always on servers and one for my desktop. No issues and they just keep going. Highly recommend these AliExpress boards.
We have one HuanaZhi Deluxe X79 running fine at home for about 1.5 years, without issue. Solid quality. Paired with an E5-4627v2 (8C/8T, 3.5Ghz all core). I do have one cheap 60mm RGB fan blowing on the VRM because I run this rig at 3.5Ghz across all 8 cores. Just for safe measure.
I think Buildzoid in one of his video talked about a similar design, by having doubled VRMs the board splits the current across more VRMs which helps to spread out the heat load, vs a design with the same number of phases but only 1 VRM per phase?
@@soupwizard The VRM is the whole power delivery system, made up of multiple phases. Each phase is split between one or more power stages, depending on the motherboard.
Can you please explain what 12 stages are? I thought that this is 6 phases with dual low side mosfets that reduce the voltage drop during Toff? I thought this is in essence just 6 buck converters really?
I tried an ali express x79 turbo made by plexhd and it had nvme and worked amazing with a 1650v2 ans 32gb 1866 quad channel ram and a gtx 1070. Worked amazing for modern warfare.
That actually looks fantastic and prolongs the x99 as well, fair play they've upped their game!!! Shame that CPU can't overclock as such though, but yeah, for games not too sure but just for a beast, yeah man 12 cores 24 threads macxing out... fantastic
I’m super keen on this board. Will certainly go 64gb ddr3 at this price and with a 12 core Xeon will be great. I also want to run 7 instances of LDplayer in the background(nox emu) and multitask at the same time so this will be good
I recently picked up a Huananzhi X99 QD4 combo for $80 for my son's first build and I'm shocked how good the build quality is. I was expecting issues with drivers etc in Windows but there were none. The Xeon E5 1650 V3 still has a valuable place today for the average user. Price performance is of utmost importance especially in today's economic climate.
Been using the killisre d4 with the xeon 2620 v3 for a few months now... absolutely perfect. Also the board came with an updated bios with turboboost unlock enabled. Tbh if my other build,, i7 3770k set up, starts having issues, I'll probably build another with a similar board and a more powerful xeon.
I got the Atermiter D4, looks just like the Kllsire D4, with a E5-2620v3 too and I've been really happy with it. It also has the Turbo unlock BIOS. I upgraded from a 2620 to a 2640 though to get a little bit more power.

3:30 There are many reasons to double the low side Mosfets but they do not offer much if any improvement on the quality of the power delivered. In most cases doubling the low side mosfets is done to reduce heat generated by increasing efficiency, to increasing surface area so its easy to dissipate heat or to be able to use cheaper/lower quality Mosfets to save cost. In the end its nothing more than a very basic 6 Phase VRM that is probably configured in one of those configurations: 4+2 or 4+1+1 or 5+1. I would not recommend this motherboard if you intend to try high OCs.
Glad someone knows more about VRMs. I personally wouldn't be looking to oc on this board, but it's good to know that light to moderate OCs would be ok.
@@ArtisChronicles What helps the most on keeping OCs stable is having a good transient response and what is very concerning about this board is it's dependence on fans to keep the VRM heat under control. Having fans is a good indication that the Mosfets used are NOT of high quality. As dust start clogging the fans the temperature will start to increase significantly and if one or both fans break the board will constantly overheat. The hotter a VRM is the less efficient it becomes and if the VRM reaches the Tmax it trigger overheat protection. In some boards it throttles the CPU down and in others it shutdown the PC. One of the best ways to improve transient response is by having more true or true doubled phases, true phases being the best and most expensive option. If your board don't have good transient response you will have to shove a lot more voltage to the CPU to compensate for it. That hinders your max OC because the more voltage you put in the hotter it gets and you also don't want to go above the recommended 24/7 "safe" voltage. Here is my case: I have a i7 3770k on a GA-z77mx-d3h. This board is pretty basic and also have 6 phases but to OC from 3.9Ghz to 4.4Ghz I need to change the voltage from 1.110v to 1.290v. At this OC my VRM overheats if the CPU stays under load for a long time and throttle my CPU down to 1600Ghz until its cool again. And that is a lot of voltage considering that many people can get to 4.7Ghz~4.8Ghz with this much voltage. I'm certain that I would be able to lower the voltage or increase the frequency by a lot if I had a MB with more VRM Phases. I have no issue with overheating of the VRM's on the HZ X99TF; while running 3.3 Ghz (all core turbo unlock) with E5-2678V3. The entire package runs cool and I do not require an external fan for the VRM's. The CPU temps also stay relatively cool (max 60 Celsius) on air (dual 120mm fan/ 6 pipe SNOWMAN cooler).
@@jb678901 The VRM of this board already comes with 2 mini fans. Its usually a sine that they cheap out on the Mosfets. I'm not saying that it would not work I'm just raising awareness of the risks.
@Lukeylc Problems with USB are more likely to come from a bad PSU. Try a different one and see if the problems persist. Cheap/bad/failing PSU is the cause of the most common problems in a PC.
I got a e5 2650 v2 Xeon, Asus X79 board, 32gigs ecc ddr3, a cooler master masterbox Q300L case, a non 80 rated 600 watt PSU from amazon, and an old 500 gig SSD I had laying around. I put the computer together for about $188 dollars US . I added a used rx6500xt GPU. I lost a few FPS to gen3 PCIe board. It is doing well at games I play on Steam. All in I have bout $300 invested. The Xeon is a 8 core, 16 thread cpu and temps are good. The cpu mobo combo was about $45 US with one 16 gig stick of DDR3. I am getting 115 FPS on WarThunder in Steam. All was sourced from Aliexpress except case, power supply, GPU, and SSD. I was able to put win11 on it, but have been using Linux.
Thanks for the interesting review. I've myself used X89 F8 with XEON E5 2620 v3 (sold as a bundle in Aliexpress) for a month in a homelab server / virtualization use 24x7. Running some VM's on Windows and Linux plus Pfsense firewall. The quality is awesome compared to those "cheap" boards available. In my use case the CPU temperatures remain really low, not even hitting 30 celcius (using Noctua NH-L12S which was already lying around). Power consumption is around 100W in total with hard disks, graphics, additional network cards etc. Due to my use case I'm using just cheapest and easiest graphics card which was lying around. That might explain something about power consumption though. I'm positively surprised and the brand motherboard manufacturers should be looking at what's going on in China and get to the next level in order to stay in the game. The only thing where I had a surprise on top of the Chinese manual, was that the M.2 slots supported only NVME in my case.
This is board definitely gives you the most bang for your buck if you are starting out on server builds. Huananzhi makes decent stuff (including Nvidia gpus and SSDs) I prefer the F8 variant myself, but that's because I have a crap ton of DDR4 I couldn't say for certain but I THINK you can swap those VRM fans out for Noctua A4's and knock down the DB's a bit (if it matters). I haven't built mine yet, because getting parts from China to the US is ridiculous right now, but I know a few folks who have and they swear by them, their X79's too.
Yeah X99 content! I got the X99-f8 (the all DDR4 version of the x99-tf, there is also an all DDR3 version the x99-t8) combo with the E5-2640 v3 and 32 GB of DDR4 for $250. It's an amazing deal and great performance for price. Also I followed Miyconst video on turbo unlock forever and it worked great on the 2640v3 (3.4 all core most if the time) I just hope those active fans last.
I bought the D4 version with 32 gig DDR 4 2133, fan and E5-2660 V3 and I am very impressed with the performance. The whole lot was just shy of $360 delivered.
@@Ozzy3333333 I Tried it in many boards all claiming to be ECC supported even my current ASRock x570 Taichi Razor and none detect it, it did work in the D4, so I'm thinking some trickery happened in that board, either way the board was rubbish, most USB didn't work, and the chipset was stuck on one mem speed, no XMP profile even offered.
I use x79 platform. PlexHD x79 turbo motherboard combined with xeon e5 1650. Still good value for its money. Just mod your bios for unlocking cpu multiplier and ram timing and you get full power.
I have this board. Encounter a strange problem, which huananzhi tech support not sure about. The bios does not detect Microsoft wired keyboard. But it works well with others brand. Huananzhi tech said, maybe microsoft keyboard too high end. Haha.
ive found LGA1700 and am5 motherboards for around 100$ aswell i recommend going for those as the motherboard is the hardest component to upgrade down the line
Bought a Jingsha X99-D8 instead of this after looking at reviews from Miyconst (a Russian techtuber that covers alot of Chinese mobo). The VRM fan could possibly be noisy and passive coolers should be adequate enough under normal usage.
@@MrSB910 Actually, Miyconst did compare temps and the big passive heatsink seems to outperform the dual mini fans approach. I suppose, if the X99TF fans ever give me a problem, and they haven't to date, I would simply buy an extruded ALU heatsink for the VRM (less than $15) , drill tap it to dimension and replace with some new thermal padding. Voila!
Been using this motherboard for months now, never had any problems. Also there's a channel called "Miyconst Hardware" that has very detailed reviews of both this and all other huananzhi boards (there's a variant of this one with 8 ddr3 slots and one with 8 ddr4 slots for example)!
@@francescovolpini it's either tf if you want to save some money by getting cheap ddr3 or the ddr4 board. I'd avoid the ddr3 only version since it completely negates any real upgrade path (the e5 2697v3 , 2698 v3 and 2699 v3, the overclockable 1660 v3 and 1680 v3 as well as all v4 cpus)

Im am running a 1660 v3(8cores - only 140$ on ali) at 4.3ghz 1.23v vcore on this motherboard , It takes a bit of bios modding to unlock the power limit. With a bit of ram timing tweaking this combo runs faster than a ryzen 3600 in games! I have limited the power to 200watt, so it wont blow up the vrm :)
The key thing with new x99 systems is *real* overclocking support, for those 16xx series cpus, with fewer but faster cores. Those are the most gaming optimized for the price, by far. Everything else is really quality of life stuff. Not to diss access to m.2s, m.2 wifi, and optical out, id love those features, but none of them are inaccessible from simple upgrade cards - or even usb, on otherwise extremely high quality used workstation boards. It would take overclocking *and* pcie bifurcation for me to upgrade from my z440 board. Even then, id be sore over losing my legacy hardware support from my pci slot. As it stands, cpu and gpu upgrades are more important anyway.
3 PCIe x16 slots are extremely useful for high throughput data servers. Can add RAID card or more than one 10Gbe NIC. 2 NVMe are essential for highspeed read and write cache.
Price is the major issue. These boards are $130 CAD. It also costs about $11 CAD for shipping. Unless I am buying a cheap processor, it may be OK BUT, at that point you might as well buy a cheaper motherboard. For example, a Xeon E5 2620 V3 doesnt have a high demand in terms of power consumption (even with boost unlocked) thus you can get away with none active cooling VRM. Yeah, a E5 2678 V3 processor will be more heavy (something like 120W or so) so maybe this works out fine, but those processors are OK and not really necessary for most users (especially people playing games). Actually, a E5 2620 or a 2640 V3 will suffice for majority of the games. I see this more for those processors that have a higher TDP - Such as the E5 2678 V3 or the E5 1650 V3 processors. Or if you aren't buying any RAM and rather spend about $40 or more for a mobo where you can use your old RAM, then it makes some sense (but as you said, limited in which CPU's will work with DDR3). Overall, good board. Just getting to be overpriced. Thanks for the video.
also when comparing price, they is also getting close to used prices of real X99 (none of the China boards used the chipset they are marked with) boards like say the Gigabyte GA-X99-UD4 and UD5, or the MSI alternatives like the Krait and Gaming-7 model. those should be around 130-160 USD used in good condition. if the "they are used" comes up to mind, well... the China boards are made from parts salvaged from defective or scrapped systems and are sold on an Chinese site with close to zero warranty from an producer that "in name" can be gone tomorrow. and would not have trusted the Huananzhi board if paired with an powermonster like an Xeon E5-2666v3
I'm using this exact motherboard and CPU. I'm very satisfied with it. The only problem I had that one of the small VRM fans got noisy so I just unplugged it, since I have decent airflow anyway.
I am thinking that when this happens, I will simply buy an extruded Aluminum heatsink on AliExpress ($15 max), roughly to the proper dimensions. Cut it to size with a hacksaw, sand the edges, drill and tap for the mounting, and sandwhich some thermal padding in between. It will take about 0.5 hrs with the proper tools.
ive got a 2678 v3 +16Gb ecc ddr3 running on an atermiter board, its an absolute beast, turbo unlock to 3.3GHz. whole combo cost 189 euro but took 2 months to get to Ireland.
Lower PCI is 4x, one of m.2 slots is pci-2.0 (half the speed) You don't need another bios to overclock memory (its a bug or something, just press F9 on memory configuration page, and You can set memory speed, 2133 is the limit of 2678-CPU, there is voltage controll in bios for memory, but don't work) There are custom bios's for all core turbo boost (yes, without installing efi drivers etc, some with lowering voltage, for less concumption, and heat, if Your CPU can handle it)
This MB supports Intel Core, Xeon 1600, 2600 (v3, v4) all variants. Plus you can undervolt CPU and memory controller with a moded BIOS (when you really stress CPU it will underclock, to meet its TDP limit if you have Turbo unlocked all cores). Also when choosing the CPU make sure it supports the type off memory you have DDR3 or DDR4 and they cannot be mixed either DDR3 or DDR4. Another nice board is the X99-F8 that is only DDR4 board with eight DDR4 slots. Also these chinese boards cross mix and you can even flash BIOS of TF to F8 or vise versa. Look into the Russian sites for customs BIOS's or contact me I can give you the links to the sites although they are quite known and popular in Russia.
Also: HuanaZhi X99 T8 (8 x DDR3 slots); and JingSha X99 D8 (8 x DDR4 slots)...this one is similar to the X99F8, but without the dual fan VRM...just a big passive heatsink. Also, no integrated IO shield and it lacks one of the m.2's. Still, this board get's excellent results like the F8 on performance/quality. Lastly, the HZ X99 F8 bios can be flashed to it.
I have a X99 Dual CPU Motherboard from Ali Express which currently homes 2xE5-2620V3 CPUs and 24GB DDR4 2400 in 6 of the 8 slots. Why only 6 you ask? Because I can't get two of the DIMM slots to work, the board goes to a 67 (or b7) error on the board when slot 7 is populated and 60 (or b0) when slot 8 is filled. Not sure if it's the board or a duff CPU memory controller, it's definitely not the RAM. Board was £86 and CPUs £14 each and other than the RAM issue the board seems to run okay although the location of the 24 pin at the top of the board is annoying and it's E-ATX (sort of) which makes it more of a pain to build as budget E-ATX cases tend to exagerate their ability to mount such a board. Don't think I'd recommend this one though - if you search on Ali Express it's the orange/black one with 6 SATA 3 ports and 2 M.2 slots without a brand name. If anyone has been able to resolve such a RAM issue on the their dual socket X99 board, let me know.
Yes, but you have to be sure to go for the 6 pipe version with dual 120mm fans. STAY AWAY from the sellers who use the name "Snowman" but sell 90mm fan versions. Two completely different products. The true Snowman is a great deal. They now also come with RGB fans as well as RGB top plates. I think the 6 pipe version with dual 120mm RGB fans and top plate comes to, max price, $34 delivered. Without RGB top plate it runs under $28.
I use this mobo with unlocked and undervolted 2678v3 + 32gb ecc ddr3 + gtx1080 and NVME A2000 SSD for work software and games, damn it's a beast for the price. Got it late Jan 2020, no problems other than throwing those fans in the trash after they started buzzing. EDIT: added 60mm fan on vrm heatsink with zipties.
I have a Runing X99 (black and red) on my TV computer. The initial setup and driver installations are always tricky. During windows updates I sometimes have to shut it off at 30% and it will the continue as normal. That being said, when it’s running it runs great. Have it with a 2690 (v1) and 64 GB of ECC ddr3 ram.
Huanan X79 new version. Green with a integrated I/O shield, better audio and same VRM fans as their X99 board. That and the machinist X79 you recommended have been good systems. DDR3 was cheaper when I built them. Maybe I will do this X99 as well.

I've done three Huananzhi boards so far. X99-T8, X99-8M and X99-T8D. Very impressed with all of them. The T8D doesn't support sleep mode properly, which is a bummer, but if you are going to use it for a server that doesn't matter. The 8M and T8 all support turbo unlock and I made awesome gaming machines out of them. I've got a TF on order. I was excited to get it and try it out. After watching this, I'm more excited!! :D

After watching his videos, I ordered an Atermiter X99 D4 and flashed it with a modified BIOS for Turbo unlock. It's running a 2.6GHz (3.4GHz Turbo) E5-2640v3 with a GTX 1070. It's been a great gaming machine while stuck inside during COVID and wildfires.
Hey Bryan 🇦🇺🖐 I purchased your nVidia case $50 pc from the end of 2019 w/ gtx770 and x58 mobo. Yes it’s still going great! I’ve also purchased the Atermiter x79 mobo from aliexpress (throne with USB 3 and SATA 3 .....not the NVME version) and got a 4ghz o/c on the Intel 1650V2. Loving the board as my test bench and 3rd pc when friends are over for gaming. The vrm’s do get a lil bit warm but I have a 120mm case fan secured near the vrm’s which keeps them cool 😎. Loving this content about x58/x79/x99 etc more so then all the RTX 3000 content personally 🥰🥰. Looking forward to more this stuff! Keep up the great work. Cheers 🥂 🍻

I have this with a 2378 v3 and 32GB DDR ECC RAM with turbo unlock and a GTX 1080 and it's a workstation machine and can even game on a rather high level, especially with games utilizing all them cores. 800$ all in all including full RGB FANs, 512GB NVMe, 4TB Raid1 and BT5&WiFi ax card. The power of XEONs baby!
I prefer the x99 F8 version of this board. And they DO have an OC section on the stock bios at least on my board, you just have to dig for it. It has memory timings, and cpu and cache multi OC options, I have an E5 1650v3 ES OC to 4.5ghz on the x99 f8.
Interesting. I have a couple E5-2699 v4 ES (Engineering Sample QHUP) that I wonder if I could get overclocked over 4GHz. Theoretically, that would nearly double my performance. Only thing is what would I do with my existing Registered ECC RAM and SuperMicro X10DAX?
@@BandanazX those have a locked multi. You would need to use FSB overclocking, and these boards have usb tied to fsb. Youll only be able to get it to around 13% oc before instability hits on a really good board.
And this board has memory tuning, so you can lower the mhz frequency to compensate for the fsb increase and reuse the ecc reg, as this board supports it
Is it stable ? I'm planning to do the same build (but with an E5 1680-v3 instead), but I'm worried about the poor 6-phases VRMs 😕🧐. Do you have overheating issues on the VRMs ?

@@josue5019 , I believe the only difference between the two is the support for DDR3 ECC, I might be wrong, but both boards would be very good for a system now. No matter what task you throw at it since it is x99 and still a very very good platform for today :)

The surplus server cpus are no comparison to modern Ryzen cpus. The price per performance is where the value is. Raw performance, Ryzen will beat even most modern Intel server cpus.
rockin a huananzhi x99 tf (paired with a e5 2660 v3) for almost a year now, have unlocked turbo boost and does an exceptional job ,,,i strongly recommend it for value/performance... both for gaming and editing
I'm running this exact board with a 2678 V3 and 64GB (4x 16GB) 1866 DDR3 ECC as my ESXi server for all of 2020 now. Paired with two cheap recycled Dell H310 controllers and really cheap recycled Intel 4-port LAN controller. I'm very impressed with this setup. Running 15 VM's non-stop it barely ever hits 160W and is stable as can be.

I bought an Atermiter X99 bundle with 16G of DDR4 and the poor E5 2620V3 and god! That works pretty well for a 200$ kit! I paired it with a Hyper 212 EVO and the temps are from ambiant 22°C to 25°C at idle and doesn't ramp over 45-48°C under load! Haven't done the 3.2Ghz hack yet but looking for it pretty soon 😁. Also, I like the Ausie Dollar because it's almost the same as Canadian Dollar!

I've been using the huananzhi x79 v2.49p motherboards for going on 3 years now and everything is good. Bought 3 of them, using 2 as always on servers and one for my desktop. No issues and they just keep going. Highly recommend these AliExpress boards.
We have one HuanaZhi Deluxe X79 running fine at home for about 1.5 years, without issue. Solid quality. Paired with an E5-4627v2 (8C/8T, 3.5Ghz all core). I do have one cheap 60mm RGB fan blowing on the VRM because I run this rig at 3.5Ghz across all 8 cores. Just for safe measure.

I think Buildzoid in one of his video talked about a similar design, by having doubled VRMs the board splits the current across more VRMs which helps to spread out the heat load, vs a design with the same number of phases but only 1 VRM per phase?

Can you please explain what 12 stages are? I thought that this is 6 phases with dual low side mosfets that reduce the voltage drop during Toff? I thought this is in essence just 6 buck converters really?
I tried an ali express x79 turbo made by plexhd and it had nvme and worked amazing with a 1650v2 ans 32gb 1866 quad channel ram and a gtx 1070. Worked amazing for modern warfare.

I’m super keen on this board. Will certainly go 64gb ddr3 at this price and with a 12 core Xeon will be great. I also want to run 7 instances of LDplayer in the background(nox emu) and multitask at the same time so this will be good
I recently picked up a Huananzhi X99 QD4 combo for $80 for my son's first build and I'm shocked how good the build quality is. I was expecting issues with drivers etc in Windows but there were none. The Xeon E5 1650 V3 still has a valuable place today for the average user. Price performance is of utmost importance especially in today's economic climate.
I had a 2670v3 in the past, coupled with 32gb of DDR4 it was a freaking beast in encoding movies videos, and montage
Been using the killisre d4 with the xeon 2620 v3 for a few months now... absolutely perfect. Also the board came with an updated bios with turboboost unlock enabled. Tbh if my other build,, i7 3770k set up, starts having issues, I'll probably build another with a similar board and a more powerful xeon.
I got the Atermiter D4, looks just like the Kllsire D4, with a E5-2620v3 too and I've been really happy with it. It also has the Turbo unlock BIOS. I upgraded from a 2620 to a 2640 though to get a little bit more power.

3:30 There are many reasons to double the low side Mosfets but they do not offer much if any improvement on the quality of the power delivered.
In most cases doubling the low side mosfets is done to reduce heat generated by increasing efficiency, to increasing surface area so its easy to dissipate heat or to be able to use cheaper/lower quality Mosfets to save cost.
In the end its nothing more than a very basic 6 Phase VRM that is probably configured in one of those configurations: 4+2 or 4+1+1 or 5+1. I would not recommend this motherboard if you intend to try high OCs.
Glad someone knows more about VRMs. I personally wouldn't be looking to oc on this board, but it's good to know that light to moderate OCs would be ok.

What helps the most on keeping OCs stable is having a good transient response and what is very concerning about this board is it's dependence on fans to keep the VRM heat under control.
Having fans is a good indication that the Mosfets used are NOT of high quality. As dust start clogging the fans the temperature will start to increase significantly and if one or both fans break the board will constantly overheat. The hotter a VRM is the less efficient it becomes and if the VRM reaches the Tmax it trigger overheat protection. In some boards it throttles the CPU down and in others it shutdown the PC.
One of the best ways to improve transient response is by having more true or true doubled phases, true phases being the best and most expensive option. If your board don't have good transient response you will have to shove a lot more voltage to the CPU to compensate for it. That hinders your max OC because the more voltage you put in the hotter it gets and you also don't want to go above the recommended 24/7 "safe" voltage.
Here is my case: I have a i7 3770k on a GA-z77mx-d3h. This board is pretty basic and also have 6 phases but to OC from 3.9Ghz to 4.4Ghz I need to change the voltage from 1.110v to 1.290v. At this OC my VRM overheats if the CPU stays under load for a long time and throttle my CPU down to 1600Ghz until its cool again. And that is a lot of voltage considering that many people can get to 4.7Ghz~4.8Ghz with this much voltage.
I'm certain that I would be able to lower the voltage or increase the frequency by a lot if I had a MB with more VRM Phases.

I have no issue with overheating of the VRM's on the HZ X99TF; while running 3.3 Ghz (all core turbo unlock) with E5-2678V3. The entire package runs cool and I do not require an external fan for the VRM's. The CPU temps also stay relatively cool (max 60 Celsius) on air (dual 120mm fan/ 6 pipe SNOWMAN cooler).
@@jb678901 The VRM of this board already comes with 2 mini fans. Its usually a sine that they cheap out on the Mosfets. I'm not saying that it would not work I'm just raising awareness of the risks.
@Lukeylc Problems with USB are more likely to come from a bad PSU. Try a different one and see if the problems persist.
Cheap/bad/failing PSU is the cause of the most common problems in a PC.

I got a e5 2650 v2 Xeon, Asus X79 board, 32gigs ecc ddr3, a cooler master masterbox Q300L case, a non 80 rated 600 watt PSU from amazon, and an old 500 gig SSD I had laying around. I put the computer together for about $188 dollars US . I added a used rx6500xt GPU. I lost a few FPS to gen3 PCIe board. It is doing well at games I play on Steam. All in I have bout $300 invested. The Xeon is a 8 core, 16 thread cpu and temps are good. The cpu mobo combo was about $45 US with one 16 gig stick of DDR3. I am getting 115 FPS on WarThunder in Steam. All was sourced from Aliexpress except case, power supply, GPU, and SSD. I was able to put win11 on it, but have been using Linux.

Thanks for the interesting review. I've myself used X89 F8 with XEON E5 2620 v3 (sold as a bundle in Aliexpress) for a month in a homelab server / virtualization use 24x7. Running some VM's on Windows and Linux plus Pfsense firewall. The quality is awesome compared to those "cheap" boards available. In my use case the CPU temperatures remain really low, not even hitting 30 celcius (using Noctua NH-L12S which was already lying around). Power consumption is around 100W in total with hard disks, graphics, additional network cards etc. Due to my use case I'm using just cheapest and easiest graphics card which was lying around. That might explain something about power consumption though. I'm positively surprised and the brand motherboard manufacturers should be looking at what's going on in China and get to the next level in order to stay in the game. The only thing where I had a surprise on top of the Chinese manual, was that the M.2 slots supported only NVME in my case.
This is board definitely gives you the most bang for your buck if you are starting out on server builds. Huananzhi makes decent stuff (including Nvidia gpus and SSDs)
I prefer the F8 variant myself, but that's because I have a crap ton of DDR4
I couldn't say for certain but I THINK you can swap those VRM fans out for Noctua A4's and knock down the DB's a bit (if it matters).
I haven't built mine yet, because getting parts from China to the US is ridiculous right now, but I know a few folks who have and they swear by them, their X79's too.

Yeah X99 content! I got the X99-f8 (the all DDR4 version of the x99-tf, there is also an all DDR3 version the x99-t8) combo with the E5-2640 v3 and 32 GB of DDR4 for $250. It's an amazing deal and great performance for price. Also I followed Miyconst video on turbo unlock forever and it worked great on the 2640v3 (3.4 all core most if the time)
I just hope those active fans last.

Sorry to say, the 2678v3/x99-tf/32gb-ddr3 is only $268 and is faster than you 2660 with ddr4

@@Ozzy3333333 I Tried it in many boards all claiming to be ECC supported even my current ASRock x570 Taichi Razor and none detect it, it did work in the D4, so I'm thinking some trickery happened in that board, either way the board was rubbish, most USB didn't work, and the chipset was stuck on one mem speed, no XMP profile even offered.

I use x79 platform. PlexHD x79 turbo motherboard combined with xeon e5 1650. Still good value for its money. Just mod your bios for unlocking cpu multiplier and ram timing and you get full power.

I have this board. Encounter a strange problem, which huananzhi tech support not sure about. The bios does not detect Microsoft wired keyboard. But it works well with others brand. Huananzhi tech said, maybe microsoft keyboard too high end. Haha.

Bought a Jingsha X99-D8 instead of this after looking at reviews from Miyconst (a Russian techtuber that covers alot of Chinese mobo). The VRM fan could possibly be noisy and passive coolers should be adequate enough under normal usage.
The only advantage there seems to be quad channel DDR4 only.. otherwise you lose out on fans for the VRMs, a good IO shield, second m.2 SSD slot, etc.
@@MrSB910 Actually, Miyconst did compare temps and the big passive heatsink seems to outperform the dual mini fans approach. I suppose, if the X99TF fans ever give me a problem, and they haven't to date, I would simply buy an extruded ALU heatsink for the VRM (less than $15) , drill tap it to dimension and replace with some new thermal padding. Voila!

@@francescovolpini it's either tf if you want to save some money by getting cheap ddr3 or the ddr4 board. I'd avoid the ddr3 only version since it completely negates any real upgrade path (the e5 2697v3 , 2698 v3 and 2699 v3, the overclockable 1660 v3 and 1680 v3 as well as all v4 cpus)

Im am running a 1660 v3(8cores - only 140$ on ali) at 4.3ghz 1.23v vcore on this motherboard , It takes a bit of bios modding to unlock the power limit. With a bit of ram timing tweaking this combo runs faster than a ryzen 3600 in games! I have limited the power to 200watt, so it wont blow up the vrm :)
The key thing with new x99 systems is *real* overclocking support, for those 16xx series cpus, with fewer but faster cores. Those are the most gaming optimized for the price, by far. Everything else is really quality of life stuff. Not to diss access to m.2s, m.2 wifi, and optical out, id love those features, but none of them are inaccessible from simple upgrade cards - or even usb, on otherwise extremely high quality used workstation boards. It would take overclocking *and* pcie bifurcation for me to upgrade from my z440 board. Even then, id be sore over losing my legacy hardware support from my pci slot. As it stands, cpu and gpu upgrades are more important anyway.
3 PCIe x16 slots are extremely useful for high throughput data servers. Can add RAID card or more than one 10Gbe NIC. 2 NVMe are essential for highspeed read and write cache.

Price is the major issue.
These boards are $130 CAD. It also costs about $11 CAD for shipping. Unless I am buying a cheap processor, it may be OK BUT, at that point you might as well buy a cheaper motherboard.
For example, a Xeon E5 2620 V3 doesnt have a high demand in terms of power consumption (even with boost unlocked) thus you can get away with none active cooling VRM. Yeah, a E5 2678 V3 processor will be more heavy (something like 120W or so) so maybe this works out fine, but those processors are OK and not really necessary for most users (especially people playing games). Actually, a E5 2620 or a 2640 V3 will suffice for majority of the games.
I see this more for those processors that have a higher TDP - Such as the E5 2678 V3 or the E5 1650 V3 processors. Or if you aren't buying any RAM and rather spend about $40 or more for a mobo where you can use your old RAM, then it makes some sense (but as you said, limited in which CPU's will work with DDR3).
Overall, good board. Just getting to be overpriced.

also when comparing price, they is also getting close to used prices of real X99 (none of the China boards used the chipset they are marked with) boards like say the Gigabyte GA-X99-UD4 and UD5, or the MSI alternatives like the Krait and Gaming-7 model. those should be around 130-160 USD used in good condition.
if the "they are used" comes up to mind, well... the China boards are made from parts salvaged from defective or scrapped systems and are sold on an Chinese site with close to zero warranty from an producer that "in name" can be gone tomorrow.
and would not have trusted the Huananzhi board if paired with an powermonster like an Xeon E5-2666v3

I'm using this exact motherboard and CPU. I'm very satisfied with it. The only problem I had that one of the small VRM fans got noisy so I just unplugged it, since I have decent airflow anyway.
I am thinking that when this happens, I will simply buy an extruded Aluminum heatsink on AliExpress ($15 max), roughly to the proper dimensions. Cut it to size with a hacksaw, sand the edges, drill and tap for the mounting, and sandwhich some thermal padding in between. It will take about 0.5 hrs with the proper tools.

ive got a 2678 v3 +16Gb ecc ddr3 running on an atermiter board, its an absolute beast, turbo unlock to 3.3GHz. whole combo cost 189 euro but took 2 months to get to Ireland.
Have one x79 currently, ordered cheap x99 too. First is good for any retro(WinXP) up to 2018 gamewise for sure!
Lower PCI is 4x, one of m.2 slots is pci-2.0 (half the speed)
You don't need another bios to overclock memory (its a bug or something, just press F9 on memory configuration page, and You can set memory speed, 2133 is the limit of 2678-CPU, there is voltage controll in bios for memory, but don't work)
There are custom bios's for all core turbo boost (yes, without installing efi drivers etc, some with lowering voltage, for less concumption, and heat, if Your CPU can handle it)

This MB supports Intel Core, Xeon 1600, 2600 (v3, v4) all variants. Plus you can undervolt CPU and memory controller with a moded BIOS (when you really stress CPU it will underclock, to meet its TDP limit if you have Turbo unlocked all cores). Also when choosing the CPU make sure it supports the type off memory you have DDR3 or DDR4 and they cannot be mixed either DDR3 or DDR4. Another nice board is the X99-F8 that is only DDR4 board with eight DDR4 slots. Also these chinese boards cross mix and you can even flash BIOS of TF to F8 or vise versa. Look into the Russian sites for customs BIOS's or contact me I can give you the links to the sites although they are quite known and popular in Russia.
Also:
HuanaZhi X99 T8 (8 x DDR3 slots); and
JingSha X99 D8 (8 x DDR4 slots)...this one is similar to the X99F8, but without the dual fan VRM...just a big passive heatsink. Also, no integrated IO shield and it lacks one of the m.2's. Still, this board get's excellent results like the F8 on performance/quality. Lastly, the HZ X99 F8 bios can be flashed to it.
I have a X99 Dual CPU Motherboard from Ali Express which currently homes 2xE5-2620V3 CPUs and 24GB DDR4 2400 in 6 of the 8 slots. Why only 6 you ask? Because I can't get two of the DIMM slots to work, the board goes to a 67 (or b7) error on the board when slot 7 is populated and 60 (or b0) when slot 8 is filled. Not sure if it's the board or a duff CPU memory controller, it's definitely not the RAM.
Board was £86 and CPUs £14 each and other than the RAM issue the board seems to run okay although the location of the 24 pin at the top of the board is annoying and it's E-ATX (sort of) which makes it more of a pain to build as budget E-ATX cases tend to exagerate their ability to mount such a board.
Don't think I'd recommend this one though - if you search on Ali Express it's the orange/black one with 6 SATA 3 ports and 2 M.2 slots without a brand name.
If anyone has been able to resolve such a RAM issue on the their dual socket X99 board, let me know.

Yes, but you have to be sure to go for the 6 pipe version with dual 120mm fans. STAY AWAY from the sellers who use the name "Snowman" but sell 90mm fan versions. Two completely different products. The true Snowman is a great deal. They now also come with RGB fans as well as RGB top plates. I think the 6 pipe version with dual 120mm RGB fans and top plate comes to, max price, $34 delivered. Without RGB top plate it runs under $28.

I use this mobo with unlocked and undervolted 2678v3 + 32gb ecc ddr3 + gtx1080 and NVME A2000 SSD for work software and games, damn it's a beast for the price. Got it late Jan 2020, no problems other than throwing those fans in the trash after they started buzzing. EDIT: added 60mm fan on vrm heatsink with zipties.
Why undervolt it? How much power you save?

An integrated i/o shield is honestly the best quality of life change in the history of computing.
I have a Runing X99 (black and red) on my TV computer. The initial setup and driver installations are always tricky. During windows updates I sometimes have to shut it off at 30% and it will the continue as normal. That being said, when it’s running it runs great. Have it with a 2690 (v1) and 64 GB of ECC ddr3 ram.
Huanan X79 new version. Green with a integrated I/O shield, better audio and same VRM fans as their X99 board. That and the machinist X79 you recommended have been good systems. DDR3 was cheaper when I built them. Maybe I will do this X99 as well.
Wiah cars took this safe aspect of making new variants of classic models.
