Each of the Darksiders games have done different types of RPGs. The first one did a Zeldaish thing, 2 was more of a open world looter type with all the side quests and stuff, and this one is doing a Souls type of game. I dig it. I hope it does well enough to at least get us a game with Strife.
Am i wrong in thinking D1 was more like God of war, being linear, while D2 was the zelda one with its open design and tools from dungeons? its been years since i played them, but that's how i've remembered them.
@@immortalweapon I wouldn't say you are wrong. I just always though Zelda when I played D1 because of the dungeons, you get the tool that helps you traverse the dungeon and then you go around the world and get the collectables and stuff you missed with your new tool. Both games did it but D1 had a bit of an open world were God of War didnt really do that at the time.
maybe that was the idea, who knows, maybe those types of RPG signify of the personality of the horseman? for example ds1 being more linear as war was only seeing one path, the path of his objective, death being more open world since he have to learn and balance a lot of things before acting and fury being more like a "souls" type showing her hot yet strict temper with precise movement, with this in mind i'm afraid of strafe being a RPG shooter xD
Y'know, in this time of microtransactions, lootboxes, xp boosts and buying orbs with real money, it's nice to see a good ol' hack and slash that you can buy, play, have fun and that's it. Perhaps that's what we need: more 2012 games.
@@anthonyroyforbes "It's not a hack and slash" - List of combos - 4 different elements with different weapons with different combos - Mix combos with different weapons Yeah, sure. Not a hack and slash at all. lol This is why idiots need to shut the fuck up before saying something stupid and play the fucking game first.
If that's how low of a standard there is these days, I think you all just maybe bough the wrong consoles/games, none of the games I play have lootboxes and very few have microtransactions. Also for all the game sI've played DLC was only developed after the base game was finished.
@@zeroskaterz92 1 I'm not an idiot but feel free to keep thinking that because it doesn't matter and 2 just because there's a list of combos doesn't mean you have a hack and slash game. The reason I said it wasn't a hack and slash is because in this game they give you the ability to do these bad ass combos( I think fury fights really fucking cool) but the developers didn't give fury the durability to fight the hordes of demons and Angel's that they throw at her . The bosses however are pretty easy and that's when the game feels like a hack and slash...
As a hardcore fan of the serie since the first one, i must say even with it's flaws, it is a good simple game. Darksiders has always been a AA game not a AAA (D2 tried and failed, too big, too empty and not even finished correctly), and you can't note this game without thinking of where it comes back from. The team behind D3 is 60 persons, almost half the 1st one team, taking on a license that almost died with THQ. And they did a great job saving it and keeping it's core identity. And for those who say "identity crisis" talking about Darksiders, it is a serie that reference others games since the beginning. War was a mix of Zelda and God of War, the second one took inspiration in ARPGs, and the third one in Metroid/Darksouls. 4 Horsemen, 4 type of games. I'm almost sure Strife will have some Gears of War/Devil may Cry inspirations. The game is certainly not perfect, but in this industry nowadays, having a simple 15 hours, no micro transaction, no lootbox, no game as a service, old school adventure game is a real breath of air. ^^
Wether it's good or not, I hope this game works, so that the company can get the opportunity to finish their story with good equipement, money and stuff. There is too much potential, especially in the last episode they planned
Game that is more a movie and awful at been a game gets 10/10 (RDR2). Game that fails to be a movie and be a decent to good game 4/10 (DKS3). This is why I don't take reviews serious anymore and wait for word of mouth from the non sheep.
TitanFX - -Don’t get me started on RDR2 lol. I found it so boring. But yes games can have stories and Darksiders story is actually decent. DS just took some mechanism of dark souls like every games in history borrow from each others. Nothing wrong there imo.
He never said that as a critique. He said that to explain how the game is and said it was a good thing. "It's not pompous at all, it knows you just wanna play a game" which is how every Darksiders game is. Everyone gets so fucking butthurt over nothing. I've beaten 1 and 2, and I'm getting around the end of 3 now, and I can say all his critiques were fair. Darksiders is a flawed series. Darksiders 2 wanted to be an RPG, but also a puzzle, action, Prince of Persia, Zelda game.
This game is no darksiders 1 or 2 but considering how much hell this series went through I’m just grateful it’s back. I’ll admit Fury takes some getting used to but once you do the combat is SO fun. My only complaint... ThEY DIdn’T GeT MiCHaEL wiNcoTt To VoIcE DEATH aGaIN
@@ironmaidenmetalgod How did you get it 40% off? I played the first two games and really enjoyed them. I love the world, lore, and story they all have had. It is a different take on the apocalyptic/post apocalyptic story. I still want to get this game but my gaming budget around this time of the year is pretty small since Christmas is right around the corner and have to buy for the family.
Only because a game is retro (can you say that for early ps3 era? eh dunno) doesn't mean it's good. I don't know why I should play this instead of one of the other darksiders, dmc or something similar.
Glad a series that had a plan going forward was given a second chance (or third I guess?) but I hate some of these reviews online for this game. Not directed at Gameranx itself but some say "It's four years late and uses four year old game mechanics" or "This feels like an early PS3 title". Bitch, I'm going back and replaying Resident Evil 4 right now and that game STILL is better than 95% of the third person shooters we have today and it's more than a decade old. I'm sick of games being criticized for having 'dated' mechanics. So tell me, what are the new and fresh mechanics? Fucking us in the ass with micro-transactions, taking up 700,000 GB of space on your hard drive, having toxic and pretentious fanbases? Does it have to hold your hand the entire way through? Or how about not having interesting combat and forgetting to include boss fights? I mean some of these people thought Red Dead Redemption 2, a game that literally locks on to every enemy for you so you can shoot them, was too clunky to control. Maybe once in a while we want something that is a little 'gamey', when did that become a bad word in this industry? THQ Nordic also owns the rights to Destroy all Humans, so here's hoping they get on with that series as well!
Sadly, this is a different generation now. Nowadays, everyone wants something "revolutionizing" and "innovative" and "refreshing". Seeing these reviews worry me not because they think this should've "died and left buried in the rubble", but because we (as a fandom) have waited this special moment to finally continue where the story left off, and then later on find that it was considered mediocre and wait for who knows how many years, ending at another unresolved cliffhanger due to average reviews and middling sales. I recently saw a tweet from Jim Sterling sharing his review of it, and while haven't I seen it due to wanting to avoid potential spoilers (though, that didnt saved me from seeing spoiler thumbnails by some jackass TH-camrs every time I'm on the damn site), the last few words he wrote just hurt on a deep level. Sure, the series hasn't been the most original when it comes gameplay mechanics, but the way it tells its story is what brings the magic that all of us dedicated fans have been yearning for. I'm about to get my copy today at full price, and I hope every fan out there does it as well to get the story continuing until it concludes on a satisfying note.
@@danenagai1157 To sum up Sterling's review; It's an ehhh dark souls rip off without a stamina bar, and doesn't feel like Darksiders II. There was a small spoiler in the review (because he didn't care for the game he started dropping them without a warning for a few minutes so do avoid the review).
I agree. I hate when reviews knock games for not bringing anything new to the table in some way, shape, or form as if innovation is the only thing that composes a good game. Doom 2016 did absolutely nothing new but that game was universally loved and appraised so they can't hold innovation as a standard to rate by. There is no "standard" for good game. A game is good based on how it combines different elements and tropes of gaming and the way it executes its delivery of it all. And even then, at the end of the day it's all subjective because what one person thinks is a good game someone else may find bad.
I thought the game was good. it took me 22 hours and I got the good ending. Cons: Cheesy dialogue kinda hard Camera is weird Group fights take a bit to get used to It's not as metal/brutal as the last games. Fury isn't super likable (but it makes sense considering the other games) Pros: It's Darksiders Combat is fun, perfect dodges have lots of oompf Fun story, lots of good reveals about the universe and plot. Boss fights are enjoyable Character designs are great Decent upgrade system I'd say pick it up now if you really like the franchise and maybe wait for a sale if you don't. It was exactly what I was looking for in a darksiders episode but just know that it's an older style of game made by a studio that's trying to pick up the pieces. I think they deserve all of the love and affection with a healthy dose of constructive criticism, not hate.
If you finish the game, then wouldn't you agree that Fury becomes more 'compassionate' at the end? At first, she's a straightforward, simple-minded and always rush to things, but at the end she listens and grew patience
While she might not be the most likable horsemen, out of the 3 games we had, she underwent the most changes with her story imo thanks to her brother ofc.
I waited like since 2013, so im happy and not. Bc i knew bf that there was a sister and stuff but i didnt Think she was that boring.. still waiting for the 4 tho
they need to give this series to a diff developer... doesnt matter about budget/team... their art direction and technical aspects of the game arent that good
@@andrefrazier8653 apparently you have never played one or two, or you would realize this style is all through these three games. not every game has to have hyper realistic graphics. because by that standard, 2k should hand over the reins of borderlands to a different company then.
What I love about the series is its unpretentiousness. Much like the Horsemen themselves, it knows what it is, knows what it needs to deliver and does it. I love next level gaming as much as the next guy. But seeing a third game is a treat at this late date.
Gaming and Console Tech it really is and I just posted a comment saying how much I love the series but I’m not really interested in the combat mechanics. I’m still gonna buy the game anyways to support how amazing the series is.
I don’t know why all the reviews for this are bad the first 2 games were great and this looks like a solid addition with fast paced action I’ll pick it up as soon as it goes on a sale
@@odin4581 yeah the first one I loved except for that final puzzle FML. The second one would have been far better had they not tried to make it a RPG... I hope this game sells well enough for a strife game. Which would probably do well sense his weaponry is guns
My personal favorite of the series is Darksiders 2 because it reminded me of the Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver games. I like how the developers are doing something new with each installment, very interested to see what the final one will be like.
Never been a fan of the series but for the developers who put their heart and soul into the first 2 games before they went belly up (99.9% always due to greedy fck wads at the top---- never the developers) and for the fans of the series that this new dev team was able to give them a fun complete game to enjoy with some fan service for those whom loved the first two games.
Also a lot of the developers at the studio that made Darksiders 3 are the same developers that made the first 2 Darksiders. Thats why they made the third game. Most of them there are what was the old studio so its pretty much the bulk of the same people under a new name.
@@familymangaming6527 you talk as if that helped the game be better or something, it's f****** trash due to the fact that almost everything that made Darksiders Darksiders has been removed
I hope they continue with this series for the 4th horseman. I have been a fan since the original Darksiders. I think each game has had it's pluses and minuses, but the series all in all has been a blast to play through. Sorry for the wall of text in advance. Some of my opinions on each game so far: Darksiders - War was a great character design and felt somewhat "tanky". The combat was not overly complex or deep, but the story layout was done really well and it kept you moving through with no regrets. The upgrades felt significant and opened up a lot of area to backtrack to as well as many secrets you could find hidden throughout. In my opinion what really shined here was the areas you went through. They were very well thought out and just worked well together, not only aesthetically but in functionality of incorporating puzzles into them as well. The downside to this is it was less open world and more like branching paths that all interweave with each other. There was a great mix of puzzles, collection, story and combat. Darksiders 2 - Death was awesome and felt completely different from War in play style while still feeling like a Darksiders game. Combat in this game was so much faster and fluid. There was a vast open world to play in and it was fun exploring, although it did not seem to have the detail of the first games areas. I am guessing this was something that took a hit due to the shear size of the world. A lot of the areas felt very "copied and pasted". The story in this was still very well done how it was weaved within the first story but did not interfere with what had happened in it either. Getting loot and comparing it to what you had was another great feature, although you felt RNG was just screwing with you sometimes and by the mid game you were getting way less upgrades making them feel less important. A lot less puzzles were in this game and it was more about straightforward combat, a lot of times just throwing you in an arena and having you fight waves of enemies. While this still had some puzzles, collection, a good story and combat, the focus seemed to lean on the combat. Darksiders 3 - While I love Fury's design she seem to stick out more than War or Death. By "stick out", I mean she does not seem to fit in the Darksiders world as smoothly, but maybe this was intentional to make her always the stand out character on screen. Fury has fast combat close to Death's, but overall not as deep as that combat system. The utility in her different forms is what makes her stand out. I really like the story in this one and it is probably the biggest driving factor of this game. Story-wise it lets you see the world from a different perspective. Again, less puzzles in this one than even part 2 had. In my opinion, this is the hardest of the Darksiders games, even on the Balanced difficulty, just because Fury, even after upgrading, seems weaker than both War and Death were and dies in very few hits in comparison to the other games. The world design is closer to 1 than it is to 2 in this one, but with hardly any puzzles into the design. The boss characters were well designed and fun to fight against to the point a lot of the areas you go through just feel like filler they put in to play in while you look for the next boss.
I 100 percented AK when it first came out. But I sold it to GameStop for some cash earlier this year. Ever since I've been missing it, and now it's free on PSN. I'm satisfied.
Everyone and anyone that says a game is "dated," is not a gamer. Gamers play games because they are fun not fashionable. If the games not " in season," for you trendy folks there's plenty of games out there that will take your money for your time. Next they'll be saying Mario Bros was overrated!
Stephen King I don’t think it’s dated. I just think it’s ridiculous to copy Souls combat style pretending it’s more modern. Because it’s not more modern. It’s just another cup of tea and it never was Darksiders. I though it could have evolved like Nier automata. That would have been a modern combat system for the Darksiders series.
Stephen King exactly. im about 12 hours in, nearing the end, and i have had an absolute blast. i really dont get what these reviewers want out of this one? it is incredibly fun.
@@PanzerDragoonWorld I get that you are mad about everyone copying souls games but honestly since all the PS2/PS3 games have made us feel like nothing but gods a bit of challange here and there is good for us.
While I don't agree. There's something I can add. That thing on why you liked the first more and can't quite put your finger on it. It's because the first game was a masterfully crafted love letter by passionate and experienced devs who wanted to make something cool. This game is the result of studios closing, IPs moving hands, and a new studio imitating other games. They did a decent job, and I love the AA feel of it, as if it were a game from ~2012 or so. Honestly loved it. But yea. Whereas the first one was a love letter to certain other games done by very experienced devs, this one was a bit of a two pronged imitation. It ended up well put togeather, but not masterful. It lacks that je ne sais quoi, that final polish, that perfect balance.
I bought the $400 Apocalyptic Edition, been a HARD fan since day one 8 years ago. I’m even getting a Tattoo or War because of how big a fan I am. In my opinion I feel they made it far too difficult. I played on story mode to enjoy the game first then come back and play the harder difficulties. However even on the weakest difficulty, just normal villains can be extremely rough. This game focuses more on a DarkSouls feel and I dislike that a lot for this series. The first two games were amazing and I could kill a skeleton in a few hits, however in this game a skeleton will literally beat you into the ground. So far I’ve been getting a lot of lag and a glitch here and there. This game wasn’t what I expected it to be at all however I still have high hops for patches in the near future. Also let’s not forget we still have Strifes Story to explore next game ;)
@@theoldblood3804 Nah, the game just has technical issues. Its still fun but like he said in the video, no matter how good you are at dodging enemies will still hit you. They actually attack through your attacks which is kinda weird. Still glad to see the series is alive and well.
SSR Entertainment this how I fill about this game. Made to hard and I have beat first 2 games on Hardest Difficulty. Hears hoping 4th game is a lot better and goes back to game play like first 2 games were
Pretty well sums it up. She just doesn't feel as strong as a horseman of the Apocalypse should. At the very least, the should be about to keep attacking through a hit or two, not just get stunlocked by any bug that touched her. Also, for the technical issues, try turning damage numbers off if you haven't. Seemed to help me, and it solved a lot of issues in the remaster of 2
This series is amazing, anyone who doesn't see that is at a loss. I really hope they do something with Strife, however, with his main weapons being Mercy and Redemption (pistols), I'm curious to see how they do with the combat if they make a 4th one. I really want to see this series through to the end!
I bought it a few days ago on PC, basically years after the release and I have to say, all the patches broughr stability to it's combat. In group fights I still don't use the camera but that's in every darksiders game if you ask me. As a big fan of the series I got acustomed to the combat and now I love it a lot, due to the challenging nature. I am playing on the second hardest dificulty since I think the last one was made for people who beat the game atleast once and are not surprised by anything.
A small budget they have, not much they can do. But they've been doing their best in informing everyone through IGN, gamespot, and their own returned TH-cam channel. Ads are expensive.
I feel for them, they had Fallout 76 to go up against. Not to mention the tail end of Red Dead's release marketing /hype. THQNordic isn't triple AAA rolling in cash like Bugthesda.
They have a limited budget. Plus, I wouldn't say they did a 'bad' job. Their main focus was to get their fans hyped up, they even have their own cosplay team who dress up like various forms of fury, war and death attending conventions.
@@OmarM626 aye it didnt but it was a great step forward for the game. Hack and Slash needs this part of rpgs in it. Just look at nier and how that worked out. it's a bit different but people love it. We'll always have our dmc and bayonnettas but it's nice to have something that's to the side. im not too happy they moved towards a more dark souls feel as that genre already has enough competition
I'm currently playing the game at apocalyptic mode. At first I thought going and fighting a couple of bosses right away was gonna make the game too short. Now I think Fury has her own style along the other Horsemen, because they all have different abilities.
@@anthonyroyforbes Honestly what did you expect. You can never truely recreate the feel of a franchise when half the original creative team is over at an other studio (most notably Joe Mad, whose art style defined the series). But for what they had, I think they did a hella fine job recapturing the magic of the former games.
@@KevinReijnders93 I know this, but I still expected it to be more like the originals. The first 2 had well over 20 hours of gameplay and imo the second had plenty of replay value where as the third was just kind of annoying if I'm being honest... and i don't plan on playing again unfortunately
@@anthonyroyforbes I think the main issue with less hours of gameplay is caused by the lower relative budget. You can only do so much with limited resources. I personally liked it a lot and appreciated that this series has been resurrected from the grave. I myself am definitely going in for 2nds and 3rds
Out of all the darksiders games I think this one has the coolest weapons, combos and upgrade system. I just hate how so many enemies are obnoxiously tanky for no reason. Trying to mash souls-like mechanics with a hack and slash was not a good idea, but I still really enjoyed the game despite all its flaws.
Its not quite dark souls but literally thr only way to beat certain bosses is to lose and lose and get better and smarter till you eventually take em down
the most annoying flaw is when you're running around through areas you've cleared and the game suddenly locks up and goes through 5 - 10 seconds of loading before letting you continue. The worst I've had was about 5 times in about 5 minutes in one of the early areas, like < 2 hours in.
I miss the idea of the corrupted weapons concept that was in play for darksiders 2, being able to sacrifice my older weapons to make a much stronger and better weapon (scythe’s) was one of the best additions to the franchise imo!
I think Fury should have more traversal and grapple combat. I think her combat is a splice of War's combat and Death's evasiveness. But I feel she should have her own combat style because of the whip, she plays a little more grounded, yet fluid than the other two games.
I love the darksiders series and i love how each game is different just like each of the horsemen are different and how all of the games tie into each other
I love these types of games, glad they are still being made. Loved DS1, loved DS2 as well and this one seems to, storywise for sure, fulfill my needs for this genre. I'm just having mindless fun which gets a bit more serious the further the story progresses. Do miss the blunt bashing action from War in DS1 but still, like it.
Considering the budget and staff size compared to DSI/II, I think it's a great effort. Unlike a lot of people, it seems, I tempered my expectations, and wasn't disappointed. I've encountered a couple of minor technical issues but nothing that truly ruins my enjoyment. The game is flawed - and *very* unpolished. But I'm enjoying it so far, and that's what matters in the end, I guess. Definitely gonna be buying the DLC expansions. I'll support this game all the way so we can get a bigger budget for the 4th and 5th games to complete the story.
Personally I think the combat makes sense when you think of the weapons for the horseman. War had a greatsword and was basically a tank. death had weapon versatility with all the choices so I can understand being a ble to cc and fight big waves depending on weapon equipped. I'm not sure how I feel about her having a whip, but at least they kept the combat true to the weapon.
Looks like an amazing game to get, when you have the money and time to spend on it, which is honestly all a game has to be, and this one manages to be fun and present an interesting character story if you're unfamiliar with the series lore and some cool references for those who know. It's simply a decent game in the middle of cash grabs. Oh and Red Dead Redemption 2.
I only just got into it, but fury acts more like a head strong teen. I believe she is still learning. I think they need two more games, the last with strife and one with all four and you can pick and choose which one for whatever mission (something like that). I played the first two and definitely into more of the backstory of why everything is happening and I believe after awhile fury will get it.
So do I, just so I can have The Darkness, The Darkness 2, The Darkness 3, Darksiders, Darksiders 2, Darksiders 3, Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 sitting on my shelf in a row. Damn, 'dark' is a weird word.
Honestly as a fan of the series it felt like the first one being a straight forward action game where if you didn't do a ton of backtracking you would miss out on a ton of loot and the stuff the emulated from another series with dark as the first part of the name I felt changed it up for the better by providing a challenge for you to overcome but still sticking to it's roots as a fun game where once you get far enough into it you are the unstoppable horseman you play as.
i honestly think this game looks amazing and ive been super hyped for it since it's announcement so I seriously can't wait until I get the extra cash to shell out on this game. Can not wait.
I'm a huge fan of the 1st 2 and i didn't care for 3 at 1st, but it's one of those games that you just have to be patient with, and give it a chance, and it just kind of grows on you. They could have done more with it, but overall, it's a good addition to the series
For me, Darksiders 1 was a world of combo. This was pretty cool to DMC in terms of how many combo it has. The story and stuff got me playing it three times already. Darksiders 2 has an average story but too many things were being tried in Darksiders 2 with the open world thing. If I am not mistaken, as a big fan myself, Darksiders got me into it because of the story. Haven't got a copy of Darksiders 3 but gonna have to look at it myself since so many reviews are so mixed.
this is a game i have been waiting for since darksiders 2 i just love seeing a world i haven't been in. In awhile I've been missing puzzle action games. And i just like this game isn't just a thousand side quest and actually has a good main quest. because i like a linear story. And i hope the 4th or 5th game has coop where you can choose your horsemen to play.
1 don't change my control config, targeting and dodge both moved on the keyboard from the old games for some reason, but you can set them back, 2, dodging is less smooth than the older games, you have to be waiting to dodge, stopping attacks earlier it feels, don't like the lack of map. I do like the character so far but yeah maybe shallow, but maybe she just is. i don't care for the respawn thing, this isn't darksouls don't make it darksouls. you can make it unforgivingly hard on high difficulty, but at least give an option for the way respawn works.
"Darksiders 3 is not pretentious at all, it knows you just want to play a video game ass video game." I paused the video and immediately downloaded after that line.
I didn't even expect this game to come out. The fact that it did is amazing. And in my opinion they delivered. It's a very fun straightforward action game, exactly what i wanted from the series. This is not a game where you give a shit about stuff. It's a game where you play and have raw fun. And so many games fail to do this properly. Darksiders III did it very well. It shouldn't be compared to the previous games. 1 was different from 2. And having a different horseman means a different style of combat. What it stays the same throughout the 3 games is the feeling you get while playing. This game is exactly what it needed to be.
I recently was looking through my library on ps. And came across this game. This is exactly the game I’ve been looking for to play. I’ve never heard of the darksiders games. But I’ve put about 8 or more hours in the past day and I’ve had such a great time with it. It feels like I’m back in the ps3 days but playing on a ps5. There are a few annoyances and things that have frustrated me. But other than that I’m having a good time.
Thank you for this. Always wanted to see how this story progressed, but I think I'll hold off for a while. Makes me wish someone would revamp around Dante's Inferno again, or the possibility of a sequel (doubtful). Loved that game.
Got it yesterday and am now almost at the end. From my experience I can say this game has quite some flaws, but at the same time I'm really enjoying it. Even though the game is by far the shortest of them all and is lacking in bonus objectives (compared to 1&2), It still feels like Darksiders and is a nice game to play between the big titles that have released this year. I'd say 6-7 out of 10.
Fury isn't one of the Horsemen she is the daughter of War the main character from the first game. We are still yet to play as two of the horsemen. The four being War (Darksiders) , Conquest, Famine, and Death (Darksiders II). They also made it pretty clear when they announced the game that we wouldn't be playing as one of the horsemen in this one. So, here's hoping we actually get two more games. One for each of the remaining horsemen. I really hope that they lean back more towards Darksiders II because I feel it is definitely the best of them released so far.
Hmm, I quite liked the earlier Darksiders, but yeah, like you say, everything I've seen about this one seems to suggest that it's watered down what made those games worth playing. Which is a shame; I wish there were more games like this - like you also say, it's unpretentious, it's a game that's not afraid to just be a game. Only Nintendo seem to really excel at making games like that these days.
This game was a lot of fun. It took a little bit to get used to the combat. It really is about enemy management, you don’t want to fight huge groups of enemies, but after a little bit I really enjoyed the challenge. I had no problem with traveling to the first check point and going through the map from the beginning finding things I hadn’t come across the first couple times. You really feel the power of the upgrades doing this too. Making easy work of sections that gave you trouble earlier. Story is a bit bland but not so bad that I felt I had to skip cut scenes. 7.5/10
I like the fact that every game in this franchise is trying to shake things up a bit taking some stuff from other games. This game, despite it's soulsy combat, feels a lot like the first one: a small, flawed but definitely beatiful adventure. Plus i love the fact that Gunfire brought almost all of the og voice cast back. :)
Really enjoying it story and game world is really fun, but I’ve made the mistake of doing a blind apocalyptic run. I died so much in the beginning until I got to Vulgrim. However I appreciate that because in the past Darksiders games playing on the hardest difficulty didn’t really challenge me but I think that’s because I’m really comfortable with the combat mechanics in the last two games where as this game places me a little outside my comfort zone and I like that.
I love hack an slash games and honestly this generation lacks of them a lot and that's so sad. Every new game seems to be fixated on open world maps or online battle royals. We need more hack an slash games! I'm happy this game came out. Now here's hoping for a 4th one with Strife. Taking the great melee of the series and adding more gun mechanics (similar to Darksiders 2) would be amazing.
I played the game yesterday around one hour, my main problem is the dodging system and some times the healing prosses. I know you need to be good at dodging and need a perfect timing, but when I pressed the dodge button I felt its kind of stiff not as fixable as Darksiders 2. If you face a multiple enemies and they are quiet fast, then the dodging will not be that much of help, if its keep stiffing like that. The healing prosses kind of reminded me of Dark Souls games. You need to take a distance so you can use healing gem or power gems. Sometimes I got killed trying to heal my self, if the enemy was fast. I love the Darksiders franchise and I will keep playing this awesome game and I think if I continue playing and level up my character maybe the dodging will get better.
One of my favorite games this year. Just beat it on apocalyptic and on my way to platinuming it. I’ve only platinumed one other game before and that was Bloodbourne.
Bought the game because the whip reminded me of Castlevania. Tried 5 minutes of it and absolutely hated the mechanics. Purposely not allowing us to block feels like a cheap gimmick to make it harder than it should be organically. So you're left with no option except to either sneak attack while the enemy's back is turned, or do the dodge+attack move, which the game basically forces you to do. It's a cheap gimmick that makes the game worse, not better.
Not that far into the game but I feel like the combat is really tough and I find myself getting beaten by easy enemies cause I didn’t heal right away. Love fury’s attitude though finally not someone who cares about everything and just want to kick butt. Really like the game so far.
Personally I really am enjoying this game and it pains me when I was seeing other media outlets pretty much calling it garbage. And it irks me when some praise certain games for not hand holding then turn around a crucify this one for not hand holding. I have only gotten stuck once in this game and that was near the begging when I hadn't realized that I had to go back to an earlier part of the game to use my new ability ( due to some reviews calling it "super linear" ), But once it clicked that it was a Metroidvania I have not gotten stuck, and I really do like how everything is interconnected and leads back to one central place in the world.
Tbh....i like Darksiders 3 mainly for lore/story game play was severely lacking the biggest were the weapons and combos but thats another comment. Also bosses were simple and repetetive unlike past games...that weak ass story decision they coulda extended the choices/consequences mechanic and given the game som genuine replayability value but they fkd it. Technically they have 2 more games they could make for the series. If they want to make up for the gameplay of 3 they should make strife super witty/sarcastic/funny like dante from dmc imo tired of the serious stoic edgelords. Also they should maybe have a stealth element/hybrid hack and slash/shoot for him. Anyway ima give this a 6.5/10 they didnt fk it up persay just not wow def not a worthy sequel to 1&2 they have 2 more games to go turn it around guys....
Biggest problems are technical issues. At least playing it on the PS4 pro with the 1.10 patch. It runs at an unstable 30 with the gane freezing when loading areas. Frame drops 20% of the time. But sound tends to buffer 40% of the time. Even when the game stops freezing, it doesn't load the game fully. You can some times still see the game load. It really should run at 60 though. DMC5 and God of War run at 60 on the PS4 pro. They both are graphically way more complicated. How is it with this many patches, it's still this unfinished? It was just released too early. Should have gotten one more year to polish things up
Me two. I took me like 5 years before I played Darksiders 1 and 2. I think I completed Darksider 2 then a few months later they announced Darksiders 3 :) Probably won't play DS3 till 2020 lol
Got this day 1 and except a couple of annoyances I am really enjoying it. It's a bit more straightforward than the other two, but still feels just like a Darksiders game. I've heard Jim Sterling comparing it with Lords of Fallen, but it barely has anything to do with those games. It has some similar mechanics with the Souls games (you die, you go back and all enemies are restored, you lose your souls and if you die again you lose them permanently), but it barely plays like them. It plays a lot faster, you can't block, only avoid and counter enemy attacks (something between Bayonetta and Bloodborne), there are more combos, no stamina, it's just a faster experience. It could've had a bit more in-depth combo system (a ground combo setting up an air juggle is painfully absent for example) but it's fine since a lot of focus is put on countering and dodging instead of huge flashy combos . The only thing that really holds the game back is the camera. Given how challenging the combat can be at times, it's infuriating how often the camera zooms in on your character while enemies surround you and other long range units barrage you with attacks. And it's not only on narrow corridors where most 3rd person action games struggle. This happens in open areas as well. My mosts deaths came right after the world kinda opens up (after you defeat the 3rd sin) because I had to face some annoying enemies but the camera wouldn't let me see who to attack or when to dodge. You can kinda fix this by locking on an enemy, but against multiple targets this is a recipe for a fast death.

@@immortalweapon the dungeons in the second one are zelda´s type of dungeons
maybe that was the idea, who knows, maybe those types of RPG signify of the personality of the horseman? for example ds1 being more linear as war was only seeing one path, the path of his objective, death being more open world since he have to learn and balance a lot of things before acting and fury being more like a "souls" type showing her hot yet strict temper with precise movement, with this in mind i'm afraid of strafe being a RPG shooter xD

Y'know, in this time of microtransactions, lootboxes, xp boosts and buying orbs with real money, it's nice to see a good ol' hack and slash that you can buy, play, have fun and that's it. Perhaps that's what we need: more 2012 games.
But that's the thing...

Yeah, sure. Not a hack and slash at all. lol
This is why idiots need to shut the fuck up before saying something stupid and play the fucking game first.
If that's how low of a standard there is these days, I think you all just maybe bough the wrong consoles/games, none of the games I play have lootboxes and very few have microtransactions. Also for all the game sI've played DLC was only developed after the base game was finished.
@@zeroskaterz92
1 I'm not an idiot but feel free to keep thinking that because it doesn't matter and 2 just because there's a list of combos doesn't mean you have a hack and slash game.
@@AlquimistEd cool for you
As a hardcore fan of the serie since the first one, i must say even with it's flaws, it is a good simple game. ^^
Completely agree with you man
Good call. I have to wonder if there is a Diablo-esque multiplayer entry to tie everything together in the final chapter. Time will tell.

Game that is more a movie and awful at been a game gets 10/10 (RDR2).
Game that fails to be a movie and be a decent to good game 4/10 (DKS3).
This is why I don't take reviews serious anymore and wait for word of mouth from the non sheep.
DevilGames Red Dead 2 was a fun game with an interesting story. Can games not have stories and cutscenes or they have to be shitty Dark Souls clones?
Dark Souls is the best example of a good video game...but other games trying to rip it off, instead of new ideas? feels lame tbh.

@@danenagai1157 To sum up Sterling's review;
It's an ehhh dark souls rip off without a stamina bar, and doesn't feel like Darksiders II. There was a small spoiler in the review (because he didn't care for the game he started dropping them without a warning for a few minutes so do avoid the review).
Agreed.
The truth has been spoken
I thought the game was good. it took me 22 hours and I got the good ending.
Cons:
Cheesy dialogue
kinda hard
Camera is weird
Group fights take a bit to get used to
It's not as metal/brutal as the last games.
Fury isn't super likable (but it makes sense considering the other games)
Pros:
It's Darksiders
Combat is fun, perfect dodges have lots of oompf
Fun story, lots of good reveals about the universe and plot.
Boss fights are enjoyable
Character designs are great
Decent upgrade system
I'd say pick it up now if you really like the franchise and maybe wait for a sale if you don't.
Hard is not a con it's a pro

Sorry for the wall of text in advance.
Some of my opinions on each game so far:
Darksiders - War was a great character design and felt somewhat "tanky".

Sounds like you need to get good at video games is all
@@theoldblood3804 Nah, the game just has technical issues.
Hears hoping 4th game is a lot better and goes back to game play like first 2 games were
SSR Entertainment nah, you just suck
Still better then fallout 76
Everything is better than Fallout 76 so that's not really an accomplishment.
That's not saying much.
Skyrim, Monster Hunter World...u could've said any of those were better than fallout 76 lel
Even Mighty No9 is better than fallout 76
I bought it a few days ago on PC, basically years after the release and I have to say, all the patches broughr stability to it's combat. In group fights I still don't use the camera but that's in every darksiders game if you ask me. As a big fan of the series I got acustomed to the combat and now I love it a lot, due to the challenging nature. I am playing on the second hardest dificulty since I think the last one was made for people who beat the game atleast once and are not surprised by anything.
Forgot this was coming out. The marketing team really didn't do a good job.
Damn you Fallout 76!!!!!!!
They have a limited budget. Plus, I wouldn't say they did a 'bad' job. Their main focus was to get their fans hyped up, they even have their own cosplay team who dress up like various forms of fury, war and death attending conventions.
Well in my area all the buses had big posters on the side all promoting darksiders 3
here after the ps plus sep 2019 announcements
Didnt mention it does not have loot system and skill tree.
IIRC the first game didn't have them either.
Clavitz Rain the loot system, in my opinion, actually ruins games like this.
So what?
I'm currently playing the game at apocalyptic mode. At first I thought going and fighting a couple of bosses right away was gonna make the game too short. Now I think Fury has her own style along the other Horsemen, because they all have different abilities.
Game is awesome....... Game doesn't hold your hand like the reviewer has gotten used to, Darksiders and Souls combined.
Ds2 did not hold our hands and that was a good game...
I don't hate ds3 but it just doesn't feel like a darksiders
@@anthonyroyforbes Honestly what did you expect. You can never truely recreate the feel of a franchise when half the original creative team is over at an other studio (most notably Joe Mad, whose art style defined the series). But for what they had, I think they did a hella fine job recapturing the magic of the former games.
@@KevinReijnders93
I know this, but I still expected it to be more like the originals.
@@KevinReijnders93
Yeah I really hope we're able to finish the series with 2 or 3 more games
Out of all the darksiders games I think this one has the coolest weapons, combos and upgrade system. I just hate how so many enemies are obnoxiously tanky for no reason. Trying to mash souls-like mechanics with a hack and slash was not a good idea, but I still really enjoyed the game despite all its flaws.
I love how he try to not mention that this is the Dark Souls of Darksiders games.
Its not quite dark souls but literally thr only way to beat certain bosses is to lose and lose and get better and smarter till you eventually take em down
Jeffrey Price it tries so hard to be though.
"Certain other games"
the most annoying flaw is when you're running around through areas you've cleared and the game suddenly locks up and goes through 5 - 10 seconds of loading before letting you continue. The worst I've had was about 5 times in about 5 minutes in one of the early areas, like < 2 hours in.
I didnt know that this was announced
It didn't have much of a marketing campaign
@@Peakock-0 it did though.
@@Peakock-0 i saw the preorders everywhere.
It's really bizarre considering THQ simply went bankrupt after first two games. How does this even exist?
@@HaohmaruHL going bankrupt does mean you can't create games.
I miss the idea of the corrupted weapons concept that was in play for darksiders 2, being able to sacrifice my older weapons to make a much stronger and better weapon (scythe’s) was one of the best additions to the franchise imo!
Clicked so furiously
I think Fury should have more traversal and grapple combat. I think her combat is a splice of War's combat and Death's evasiveness. But I feel she should have her own combat style because of the whip, she plays a little more grounded, yet fluid than the other two games.
I love the darksiders series and i love how each game is different just like each of the horsemen are different and how all of the games tie into each other
*Darksiders 3 - "It's a game."*
STARFIRE LOOKING GOOD.... OH WAIT THATS FURY
That's weird I thought it was Ivy from Soul Caliber, but I guess she just stole her weapon....
Just realized that there is a ghost rider look to her as well. Flame red hair and chains.
Hope The Darkness 3 will be made. Really enjoyed The Darkness 2 but that cliffhanger ending!
I really hope I can get a cheeseburger the way I like it tomorrow The last one I had was good but they can always do better, am I right?
This game is free for ps plus members for September
"Darksiders 3 is not pretentious at all, it knows you just want to play a video game ass video game."
I paused the video and immediately downloaded after that line.
Were you disappointed?
rawrharhar
Were you?
I didn't even expect this game to come out. The fact that it did is amazing. And in my opinion they delivered. It's a very fun straightforward action game, exactly what i wanted from the series. This is not a game where you give a shit about stuff. It's a game where you play and have raw fun. And so many games fail to do this properly. Darksiders III did it very well. It shouldn't be compared to the previous games. 1 was different from 2. And having a different horseman means a different style of combat. What it stays the same throughout the 3 games is the feeling you get while playing. This game is exactly what it needed to be.
Performance issues aside, I’m having fun with this ps+ title, going for platinum!
Anyone here because of because its one of the free games of the month for playstation
Well done, Jake. This feels like a very genuine review :)
If you crossbred Crysis 3 and Bionic Commando, it would look like this game. In the first part at least.
Area attacks can be done by holding down the attack button. I have no issues taking on several enemies at once.
The *women* is the angriest of the four??
Realism: 10/10
Who else is here for the September ps plus ?
One of my favorite games this year. Just beat it on apocalyptic and on my way to platinuming it. I’ve only platinumed one other game before and that was Bloodbourne.
Congratulations 😍
who's here for playstation plus September 2019?
Stfu
Are u guys enjoying it?
Bought the game because the whip reminded me of Castlevania. Tried 5 minutes of it and absolutely hated the mechanics. Purposely not allowing us to block feels like a cheap gimmick to make it harder than it should be organically. So you're left with no option except to either sneak attack while the enemy's back is turned, or do the dodge+attack move, which the game basically forces you to do. It's a cheap gimmick that makes the game worse, not better.
Looks alreet - Checking this out as its free on PSN next month.
Not that far into the game but I feel like the combat is really tough and I find myself getting beaten by easy enemies cause I didn’t heal right away. Love fury’s attitude though finally not someone who cares about everything and just want to kick butt. Really like the game so far.
Ps plus gang where you at?
Should have gotten one more year to polish things up
Im gonna buy it at 50 % off, but i never buy games on full price anymore. Loved the first two games.
Me two. I took me like 5 years before I played Darksiders 1 and 2. I think I completed Darksider 2 then a few months later they announced Darksiders 3 :) Probably won't play DS3 till 2020 lol
If it's a series I care about I throw my money at the screen lol
